My family and I have been a casino go-er for many decades now ranging from casinos in Vegas, Atlantic City, Bethlehem PA and now this Encore in Massachusetts. I have dealt with all types of customer service but this one definitely shocked my system. To keep it short, we were waiting for our table on the side near the greeter area. We were peaking inside to see if the rest of our party has arrived yet when one of the managers stepped in front of us abruptly and asked us if we had a reservation. We said yes and proceeded to tell her the name of the reservation. The manager tells us rudely that "there is no (name of person we stated earlier) here right now and if we can take a step back" pointing to the waiting area with an awkward smirk. I was absolutely shocked to experience this type of customer service. I was unable to get her name as things were happening too quickly. We went to Red 8 for a family dinner 4th of July. We had made reservations for a party of 5 the night before which was a good idea as we heard the hostess tell those who did not make reservations prior were waiting for an hour to get a table. At first glance, the decor is pleasing to the eye. There's alot of red and Chinese decorations. There is an injection of modernity with the red glasses (which turned out to be decoration as they were taken away upon us being seated) and plastic woven black and white chairs. All in all the staff was nice although we had to wait literally half an hour before we got our water. Our waitress was not very attentive but the older gentleman who brought out our food was very nice and fulfilled any requests that we had. Organization among the wait staff seemed to be not great and they were just be really slow despite being so many of the on the floor and not all the tables being full. I'm hoping it's because they are new and still getting used to the system. I do have to say that I felt like they did not receive enough training and that is why it was slow and kind of just all over the place. In terms of food, it was outrageously expensive. Sure, I get it. It's a casino and it's supposed to be extravagant. We are not the type of people who complain about prices but these were not consistent with the quality of food that we received. The dim sum were 8.88-9.88 for three pieces. THREE. Yes you heard that right. Below I'll go through the different things we ordered. We did double up on some of the dim sum dishes like the dumplings and etc however our total came up to about $180 something before tip was added. Here's what we got: -Pork Wontons, Red Chili The wontons were hard and kind of dry. My mom compared them to rocks. Served drowning in chili oil with a little too much vinegar. -Almond Shrimp Balls Not sure but the almond didn't seem fresh. Fried almond balls should be crispy but when we bit into these they were kinda soggy almost like when you leave nuts in a bag without sealing them? They just didn't taste right. -Steamed Prawn Dumplings Nothing special. Just normal shrimp dumplings. -Steamed Shainhainese Pork Soup Dumpling The presentation was cute with the little carrier baskets but I no one was impressed with the dumpling itself. The wrapper was super thick and doughy, not very delicate like the typical soup dumplings. I guess that's how no one ended up tearing theirs when trying to unstick their dumpling. The dumpling itself was like the pork wonton inside, hard like a rock with a very salty broth. -Steamed Chicken Feet Nothing special. They weren't served sitting in a puddle of oil which was nice. -Pan Fried Pork and Chive Dumpling Nothing special. Just normal pork and chive dumplings. -Assorted Barbecue Platter This was probably my favorite thing and really the only thing that we all agreed was good. It was a combination of the roasted duck, barbecue pork, and crispy roasted pork belly. The duck and barbeque pork was on the greasy side but not tough. The pork belly was cripsy albeit a bit on the hard side. -Kung Pao Shrimp Served swimming in an incredibly salty kung pao sauce. Probably should consider asking for a cup of hot water to rinse it off a bit. You'll definitely need to order a bowl of rice to share to eat this without getting hypertension. -Pad Thai Flat Rice Noodles with Shrimp I honestly didn't touch the pad thai since I don't like pad thai but judging by how both of my brothers barely grabbed any, it was at best nothing mindblowing. We ordered Pan Fried Dumplings, Jasmine Rice, Kung Pau Chicken, Wok-Fried Noodles, Szechuan Green Beans. Everything came out hot and fresh. The portions were large, we took some home. My wife and I visited this restaurant for our three year anniversary and unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. Started off really well, the hostess was really friendly and was able to seat us on time. Waitress was also friendly but left us hanging while she catered to other tables around us (maybe because she felt the tip would be smaller seeing we were only a two top). We order drinks, appetizers and entrees all at once and the appetizers arrived way before the drinks. Food was good not great, ordered a second round of drinks and we never got them. Entrees arrived and again asked for that second round of drinks and again was ignored as they attended to the larger parties around us. By this time we were both annoyed and asked for the bill. The bill was $165 without tip for a party of two, we ordered 2 drinks, 2 apps and two entrees with a side of rice. Again food was good, place is pretty but the service was god awful!! Very good quality of food and service! I've dined here twice so far. The first time was last year when they first opened and I really enjoyed the food and service. I had crispy seafood noodles, shiu mai, shrimp dumplings, and baked barbecued pork buns (new menu item at the time and now my personal favorite Chinese baked goods). My server was nice and attentive. What I enjoyed most is how much they've gotten better since the first time. The experience was comfortable and very friendly. The second time I was spoiled with several chef's special like the salt & pepper prawns and sampan lobster. I ordered baby boy choi, kung pao tofu, bbq platter, and tonkotsu ramen with a friend. I really really enjoyed how friendly and personable the staff are from the host to the servers. While it is pricier than Chinatown, they recently adjusted their prices and it is more than fair since you are dining in a luxury hotel. I would definitely go here when I want to dine at a nice restaurant for authentic & premium Chinese food. read more

While it is known this is a brand new place, it is clear they are a long time away from figuring out a working system. The decor is amazing.... and it stops there. The waiting staff are nice and try their best to do a great job, but greatness does not materialize. The food constantly arrived at our table cold, from dumplings that were completely stuck to the bamboo steamers to the soups and noodles. Given the place and the prices a lot more was expected. If you are looking for some decent Asian food, this is not the place (yet?). So disappointing... I go to Las Vegas 3-5 times a year and always make sure I go to Red 8, which is a highlight of the trip. Unfortunately, this location shares zero of the same characteristics as its Las Vegas counterpart. From food quality to service, this restaurant missed on every mark. The fried rice was limp and sad. The entrees lacked flavor and spice. The drink order took 30 minutes to arrive. The food came out of order. This restaurant has improved much since the opening. The menu has expanded; the food is now delicious. Some things that you may see local Asians eating are not on the menu so ask your server. The bean sprouts were excellent. Our waitress Jeanne was attentive and entertaining. The restaurant doesn't hit 5 stars as the cocktails continue to take much too long to arrive at the table... this has been a problem since they opened. Once you receive the adult beverage they are delicious. The midweek lunch experience is a mistake. You must pre-order at the hostess stand and there is no bartender so there are no alcoholic beverages. They should be ashamed of themselves. We ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen and soup dumplings. Anyone who knows tonkatsu knows that it is made with a labor of love. It's rich and creamy and spicy and just perfect - as the broth takes hours to make. They brought us a worse version of Campbell's chicken noodle broth. The food was good - though not spectacular - is the only positive. The problem with this place is the corporate culture it has developed to move as many in/out as possible. As we awaited our order (we ordered an appetizer and the waitress 'forgot' to put in the entree order, so plenty of time to wait) I watched TWICE as the host ran ahead of the people he was seating, dropped the menus and rushed off before the guest took their seats. It was my mothers 90th BD, The manager came over to apologize for the half hour delay. Offered nothing but did refill our water glasses. When I specifically asked he said they were 'delighted' to offer my Mom free ice cream. Service crazy rushing and pressured so I do not like to take it out on them, but this is clearly a restaurant looking to take advantage of a 'captured audience' with high prices and terrible affect. Food was all prepared fresh and was very flavorful ! They had a lot of specialty cocktails that looked interesting and will have to give one a try on my next visit ! (It was an early dinner so I stuck to a glass of wine) I am a vegetarian and I had no problem finding items on the menu that worked for me. My husband and our family shared a few dishes and said each one was excellent! I think most of the bad reviews that were previously left must have been from when the restaurant FIRST opened. Like any new establishment with so much hype around it people are going to have high expectations (as would I ) but they are also going to have a lot of kinks to work out with brand new staff etc. We had a great time at red 8 and can't wait to go back ! read more

We have been here a couple of times in the last 2 months and I just don't get why it is so pricey as the food is middle of the road Chinese food. My local take out is better and less than half the price. We got the Peking Duck and I was shocked how little amount of food was there for what they charge and I would expect it to be some of the best tasting if paying that kind of crazy prices. I recently had the General Tsaos chicken and it almost all breaded and there were rice noodles underneath that were inedible. The fried rice was okay, but again $18 for fried rice. Deceiving Portions and Prices on Menu!!! Was craving some Dim Sum so we thought of giving this place a try. Ordered the Dim Sum Samplers - Tasting for Two for $28.88 because we thought we would get more bang for our buck since the prices was already outrageous. What we got was a sad steamed basket of 2 pieces each of the Shiu Mai, Prawn Dumplings, and BBQ Pork Buns(total of 6 pieces for $28.88). No where in their menu did they mentioned the number of pieces and you would think you get a better deal than ordering these three items individually but completely not. Had we ordered the Shiu Mai($9.88), Prawn Dumplings($9.88), and BBQ Pork Buns($8.88) individually off of their Dim Sum menu, we would have gotten 3 pieces of each item(total of 9 pieces for $28.64.) Somehow when doing the math, it just did not make sense to me why anyone in their right mind would order the Dim Sum Samplers - Tasting for Two for $28.88(6 pcs) and pay more rather than order the Shiu Mai, Prawn Dumplings, and BBQ Pork Buns for $28.64(9 pcs). When I informed the server about this, he mentioned that the menu is set and that there is nothing he could do about it. That's when I asked for the manager and although he was able to offer an additional piece of everything, the staff made it seem that we were causing trouble for just pointing out the obvious problem with their menu. They handed us the bill even before the dish of 3 pieces that the manager offered as a resolution arrived and couldn't wait for us to leave. Just before we left, the server checked the receipt in front of us to make sure we included tip which we did more than what was deserving....That was so just really RUDE. Below is my additional ratings and reviews of Red 8. Service 2/10: Everything was unorganized and slow. We were left waiting after being seated for 15 minutes until our server came to offer us water and another 40 minutes for our food to arrive. We also could not tell who was our server as it was alternated by two different people. Price 1/10: If you are looking to eat here, expect to pay 4-5x what you would for Dim Sum in Chinatown and still get less. At $8.88 for the least expensive Dim Sum dish, I felt that we could have gotten more for the price that we paid. When our meal arrived, we were very disappointed at how little the portion size was. I know 8 is a lucky number in the Chinese culture and they are trying to keep it a theme with their restaurant being inside a gaming establishment but it is kinda taking it too far with these outlandish prices. Quality & Taste: 4/10: Although the food tasted clean(at least cleaner than Dim Sum in Chinatown), it was a little bit on the salty side and we were disappointed also that there were no sauces or condiments on the table or offered to us. The only thing that we somewhat enjoyed was the Hong Kong-style Fried Noodle with Seafood which was $23.88(still not worth it in my opinion for deep-fried noodles covered in corn starch gravy-style sauce with Vegetables, 2 pieces of Shrimp, and a couple of thin slices if Scallops - that's right!!! Slices, not whole Scallops). Lastly, I personally do not think I will be coming back unless I am really desperate. Save your money and go eat elsewhere. The only things good about the Red 8 are the decor and the service.Cecilia was very friendly and i voiced my knowledge of cooking emphasizing Chinese Dim Sum..She enjoyed all my descriptions of many dishes.That was the only good thing about the red 8.We had the Generals Chix..This was a very small portion of cut up chicken thigh with a sweet sauce mixed in..General Gows is coated with a mix of ground up water chestnuts and spices.Waste of 22.00.We added some steamed rice and 34.00 later including tip,we left with a smile from our conversation with our wonderful server,and empty and sour stomach as my wife had a tummy ache post this meal.Shame on you red 8.I could give all your cooks a crasher on Asian Culinary.Will stay away and not recommend. read more

Ok, where should I start. Went there to try this new restaurant inside the casino and thought it will be nice to try their Peking Duck. The place looked nice and was packed on Saturday night @ 10pm Price wise was pretty high. We ordered some dishes like: * Assorted Barbeque platter: $28.88. please go to chinatown and get a BBQ platter there. I bet it will taste a lot better for the price you are paying. *Honey glazed shrimp with walnuts: it's not the typical shrimp and walnut you get from a Chinese restaurant, it came with ONLY 6 shrimps and a lot of walnuts for ~25.88. Yes only 6 shrimps!! * Whole Peking duck: this was expensive AF for what they gave us. The skin was not crispy at all and the dough was very sticky. $88.88 for the whole duck :) *Salted fish and diced chicken: this was the most decent dish from all we ordered. ~20.88 * Crispy pork: meh ~21.88 just a normal sweet and sour pork. Just average. *Baby bak Choi : $13.88. it's a just a regular veggies boiled with water and oil. Like. No salt no flavor no nothing. The good thing is that they washed it pretty clean. Service was just bad. The duck and the BBQ platter came out and after we were done, the server started cleaning our table when the rest of the food we ordered were not even out. Like I get it's new and the servers lack of training. But I mean you are charging customers for a very high price but the food and service are just below average. I don't hang out at casinos as a habit and I generally dine at them even less. However, I was hungry and everything at Encore is billed as "high-end" and "luxury" (and I note that while the casino itself has a fair amount of the cheesiness typical of these venues, it is not without a small amount of class--to the extent it's possible for these places to have any). Red 8 is expensive--by which I mean grossly overpriced for what one gets in the bargain (I note that I eat at high-priced restaurants often & I generally don't feel the need to focus on cost because I often feel that the meal, the service, the atmosphere were all worth it). I guess it is the high prices that lead the Wynn group to believe that Red 8 is high-end because neither the food nor service were. In all fairness the food was average and the service--while insufferably slow (apparently the Encore folks don't realize that every minute spent in the restaurants is time stolen from the other, presumably more lucrative, money-making enterprises that occur there)--was pleasant. I had the lemon chicken; it was exceedingly middling, entirely unmemorable. Indeed, it was not nearly as good as lemon chicken I've had in dive-y Chinese restaurants in Paris (a city which is not particularly known for its Chinese cuisine). What took this from perhaps a 2.5-star review to a 1-star, however, was an issue with the wine. After waiting a good 15 minutes to place my order, I ordered a glass of wine. A wine glass arrived, but when my meal did 25 minutes later, it remained empty. An observant server said, "oh, were waiting for wine?" (I resisted my snarky impulse to say, "No, I generally travel with an empty wine glass as a sort of "therapy pet" for me"; of course I was waiting for wine!). She "looked into" it. Halfway through my meal, I was provided an update on the missing wine (and I note that I hadn't ordered an obscure vintage of Ch. Petrus, but a merlot that can found even in grocery stores and 7-Elevens (again, this is how "high end" Red 8 is!): Red 8 was out of it (I guess they were searching their extensive cellars all that time!). Shortly thereafter another functionary arrived to inform me again that they were out of the wine. I guess Jesus hadn't arrived in the interim to perform his water-into-wine trick! Eventually I received a glass of wine--just as I finished eating. And then I received the check; this luxury" restaurant had the shamelessness to charge me for the glass of wine I never really wanted and for which it took me a small eternity to get. I normally sate myself by writing scathing Yelp reviews when I feel I've been wronged, but I couldn't help myself. I flagged down a manager and recounted my story. I was informed that they weren't really out of the wine I had originally ordered and that they had bottles of it at other of the casino's restaurants and that they could have procured it for me (I imagine they could also have gone down to the Everett 7-Eleven!!!). I don't really get how this was supposed to assuage me--my principal concern wasn't that the wine I had ordered wasn't anywhere on Encore's premises, but that it took me a good 40 minutes to eventually get any wine at all. Ascertaining the absence of something is generally not difficult (perhaps tending bar at Lot 8 is Don Rumsfeld's second act: "absence of the evidence of cheap Merlot is not evidence of the absence of cheap Merlot"). After I explained that it is common practice for restaurants to take responsibility for these contretemps, the manager then sought approval to waive the comparatively insignificant cost of the glass of wine I did receive. Waiver was granted. In case you haven't inferred, Lot 8 is like the games at Encore themselves: the odds of receiving great service are against you. This is an over-priced establishment that does not have "its act together." As I noted, Encore as a whole has pretensions to class. Unfortunately, pretensions in themselves do nothing. I would recommend that folks looking for a night out of dinner and gaming first go to a dining establishment in the city before making their way to the casino--that's the best bet! read more

My family and I always come here for their Peking Duck! It's so crispy and juicy at the same time, you can always ask them to make the skin extra crispy which what we usually do. We also wanted to try out their king crabs but unfortunately they didn't have any crabs that below 10lbs, since there was only the 4 of us there's no way we can finish that. Hopefully they will have some smaller crab later on so smaller party like us can try it out. read more

First let me say the service was very good so kudos to the wait staff. That said, this is easily the worst meal I've had in a restaurant in years. The steamed biscuits with beef and pork were reminiscent of wet cotton with a dollop of gravy inside. The steamed vegetable dumplings were leathery on the outside and slimy inside. Arrived at Encore just before 10pm and needed a quick bite to eat. We decided to try Red 8 since we've been to most restaurants at Encore but hadn't been there yet. The atmosphere is great, nice and bright with lots of ivory, with red accents. I tried the fried rice without the sweet potato and my other half had the Singapore noodles. Both dishes were cooked perfectly and tasted very fresh. We decided to try dessert and had the chocolate coconut. It was fruity and delicious. I'd recommend it if you love mango. Pisal is an outstanding server and Christina, whom also stepped in a bit, was also extremely pleasant. We're looking forward to trying the lemon chicken and wonton soup on our next visit. read more

Pleasantly surprised. Arriving at Encore on a Thursday I soon realized we could not get in to any restaurant we would normally go. We decided on Red 8. WOW! From the wonderful 'Dream' drink, to the delicious shrimp spring rolls we were not disappointed. Between 3 of us we split the spring rolls, chicken fried rice and mixed vegetables. Before quarantine, this place had bomb food bomb service. Everything is fresh and it's a super-clean restaurant. I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking to have delicious and authentic Chinese food. I love their Peking duck and we had what they call Empress Clam!!! This is a seasonal dish. We had a bad experience with Red8. Not to mention the service was non-existent for most of our meals even with the restaurant not being that busy. Our waitress (Cecelia) was very polite she introducing herself and serving us the glass of water for us, then, the manager (Jun Cheng) came to our table start order the food for us, she had a scowl on her face without smile insight. I'm not a politeness snob from wait staff usually but if you look at us unhappily I will notice. The manager tells another waitress to wrap food up for us with a bill.
