Amazing service. Reasonable prices. I needed to reassemble two bicycles I had brought up when I moved into Seattle but I wasn't too excited about the quotes I had received at other shops. A mechanic here gave me a competitive quote and then suggested that he would lower the price even further if the bike came in partly assembled. My main gripe with them is that they seem to be misrepresenting themselves as a source of used bikes and parts. That laudable approach is hardly their main focus, which instead seems to be selling new, cheap chinese bikes. Yes, there are a couple of used bikes around, sometimes a decent one--but there are not very many. And the "parts" are mostly piles of remnant junk in large bins. The few worthwhile pieces are in two or three small locked cabinets--that's it, there ain't much. There is a niche for hip/retro/recycled/inexpensive bicycling, and these guys are closer to it than any shop I know, but they ain't close enough to the ideal, unfortunately. read more

Horrible! The guy who was helping me (if you could call it that) basically told me that any bike I ride will be uncomfortable so it's about choosing a bike that is the least uncomfortable (great salesman). Also, that I couldn't use a bike for multiple functions, I'd have to a get a different bike for each (he was a real snob). When I asked what the average price was for a particular group of bikes, he wouldn't tell me (either he was an absolute idiot and didn't know OR he didn't want to sell me a bike). I wish I had written down his name to complain directly to the manager and to let you all beware of hm as well. I rented a bike here awhile back,the guy discounted the rental for me because i was a first timer my only complaint is the bike i rented the seat was a little uncomfortable and they only had a 3 rentals left,but they were busy at the time and when I told the guy i was in a hurry he got my in and out under 7 mins,the store has a great selection of items for a biker to choose from.Parking is a little challenging..but this is seattle. read more

Well we went on a busy day and weren't able to get help. Weren't greeted or asked if we needed help. But they couldn't help being slammed. I was looking for a bike that I can actually fit on. I'm really short and can't seem to find one that I can touch the ground on in regular stores. I didn't see anything that might be my size and there was no on available to ask. Looks like they do a lot of repairs and such in the back. Fairly decent amount of bikes. Used obviously. Not sure if they do have new ones tho. Maybe I'll come back one day. read more

Though I didn't buy a bike here, I did have one fixed up here, and I also bought a lock. Although my complete lack of bicycle knowlege showed for sure, both the bike mechanics and the floor staff were extremely helpful and not at all patronizing. My (very cheap Craigslist, and again they didn't laugh or anything) bike runs perfectly now, and it wasn't too expensive at all. Ive bought some used stuff that didnt turn out to be the best, but I also took my bike in to see what was wrong with the derailleur or gears because I couldn't get it tuned, and one of the technicians worked on it for about 20 minutes for free. read more

One of their mechanics, Jon, spent a lot of time with me, made some suggestions about how to improve the brake performance, then hooked me up with the parts I needed. I wish all bike shops were like Recycled Cycles' Boat Street location. This place is a bicycle lover's paradise, run by real 'bikies'. Too many bike shops are corporate in feel and attitude - they are just moving units, and interested only in selling new, not fixing old.. These places often do not want to repair bikes, especially true with brands they do not carry. Not at Recycled Cycles. The friendly staff, their attitudes and the atmosphere of the place have made it my go-to place for all things bike. I LOVE shopping here. The overhead vintage bikes (mostly not for sale) are pure two-wheeled coolness, and remind me of my life-long love of bicycles and cycling. I appreciate the bins of used parts for sale, and, kudos to them, some old parts are available for free. Recycled Cycles is much more than a bike shop- it is a community resource. read more

I went here to find a used pannier rack. Being a bike noob, the staff helped me not only to figure out what screws I needed for it, but helped fix my front bike basket and my pedal cover - all for wonderfully little. I bought a used road bike at Recycled about 4 years ago and just took it in for some maintenance. The staff is friendly and helpful. They sorted out what was truly worn-out and what just needed a little adjustment and got me fixed up for a fair price. They're top-notch in my book. Their used bike selection is often limited because they are choosy as to what they take in and price their used bikes well. High-quality, low-priced used bikes don't stay on the sales floor very long, but if the timing is right you can get some great deals. Their new stuff is good quality, good spectrum of mid-and upper-end bikes. read more

I don't have much knowledge of bikes so I came here hoping a staff member could help me find one that would be a good fit. However, they displayed pretty bad customer service when I was in. I stood around looking at bikes for a good 20 minutes while no one acknowledged me. I made eye contact the the staff multiple times and they pretty much ignored me. Afterwards I tried asking someone for help but they literally just walked away and started helping someone else. I gave up afterwards and left. Additionally the bikes here seem pretty expensive even though they are used. read more

Brand new to commuting by bike and bikes in general aside from when I was a child. Brought in a bike a purchased today, the staff was friendly and welcoming. The repair shop looked over my bike for safety, made adjustments to my rear wheel, and even took the time to explain the shifting system to me. Not I my that but mechanic did all that free of charge! The staff were friendly and the bikes we rented worked well. However, I felt the staff person helping us took a long time to check out our bikes (like 10 minutes) due to inexperience with the procedure (helmets, waivers, seat adjustments). I think they also could have selected better bikes for us as inexperienced riders going on a trail ride than the racing bikes we got. read more

Recycled Cycles may not be the best bike shop in the city in terms of selection, but the used part selection *is* best in the city, the employees are friendly, and their turn around time is pretty good. God, where do I start. I went in to purchase a bike for my husband, who was looking for a cheap, used, no frills bike. I did want him to get a good bike (since his last bike was also a cheap, used, no frills bike, and he RARELY used it because he continually complained on how bad it handled, and how small it was, etc). So I was willing to drop more dough, just to ensure that he'd use it. Mind you, my husband is a MAJOR EL CHEAPO ASS. So while immediately he scanned the place and got discouraged wtih the many $700 bikes, when I told him "ask for whether they have any within your specs", Jordan quickly came to the rescue, and guided him on what was available based on what he wanted. Mind you, there weren't any available $200 bikes. But then Andrew was very helpful, telling him details and benefits and cons of Kona vs. Marins, and ensuring that he should make a good decision without pressuring him to get a bike at all. Then Joel came in, and continued telling him about the differences with hybrids, hydraulic brakes etc.. Let me tell you, in any other case, I'd be bored out of my mind, wanting to leave. WE SPENT 1/5 HOURS in the damn place. But the guys were SOO COOL (Joel, Jordan, Andrew, TJ, Skip)... ALL OF THEM were incredibly courteous, ensuring that my husband got exactly what he wanted. After what seemed was 100000 bikes that he tried out, he finally picked out a hybrid which fit him well, he really enjoyed, and while it was a wee bit above our budget, he was completely content, especially because they were also convincing him that if he went with the cheaper alternative, it would be a good deal, he just had to ensure that it fit him well. The patience that they had with him was TRULY worthy of my returning (hopefully within the next month or two) and get MYSELF a new bike, since now I have extreme envy of my husband's new shiny bike!!!!!! And I will MOST CERTAINLY go to Recycled Cycles!!!! Ok, I am unsure about the price range, I'm putting them pricey because all in all it was ~$800. I'm not a bike connoisseur, but I think that's a bit (I know that my Schwinn mountain bike back in 2000 (new) was $400). So I may be off, inflation and all. But it was TOTALLY worth it, just to see the smile in his face, and the treatment that I got (including Joel bringing me water and a diet pepsi!!!) Thanks you guys!!! read more

Came by this place a few weeks ago after reading good reviews. Unfortunately had bad (actually correct that), no service. I'm a patient person but after 15 min of looking around the shop at their bikes and seeing myself skipped over (pun intended since I think the guys name was skip) for other people that came in after me, I was fed up and left. Probably should open your eyes and show some basic customer service...I was ready to spend some $$ on a bike but was looking for at least some acknowledgement and guidance. First place to go when looking for anything bike related. Why? Because they probably have it used for cheap, and if they don't have it used they probably have it new. I wanted to buy a used road bike that was light weight and would be easy to work on. I had been having a hard time finding anything used in my size since I'm am a small woman and most people don't give up bikes my size. The recycled staff helped me to build a bike from scratch and I ended up with a bike that fits me perfectly, is 16lbs, and is easy to work on. Also, I paid considerably less than what would be expected for a bike of the quality I got. What's more, everytime I go in at least one person asks me about my bike by frame name and are always friendly and helpful. I don't know who "dex o" talked to, or didn't, but I've never had a bad experience or been ignored. read more

This place rules! We stopped in today to look at bikes for our 6-year-old. They took one look at her and decided what size she'd need, and the guy took us directly to the 20''-ers. He showed us a variety of both new and used bikes, which I really appreciated. He got her a loaner helmet lickety-split and let her try out three bikes while explaining the features of each one to us. We chose one, and they adjusted it for her right away. They were very patient with a very excited kid, and this earns a lot of points. We walked away really satisfied with the purchase and the experience - the next time we're in the market for bikes, accessories or parts, we'll definitely be back. read more

I shop here a lot. I browse even more often than I shop and I've always felt like the service has been good, better than adequate. I notice that some people complained about the staff not falling over them, those people are probably looking to get their asses kissed where ever they go. I have purchased new things, used things, had bikes built here, and I cannot find any flaws with the pricing, service or the quality of work that they do. This is the shop in Seattle if you're looking for well priced service or parts. I shopped here as someone who was a serious recreational cyclist and now as someone who races and I feel like they meet you where you're at very nicely. read more

Despite having somewhat spotty retail service, this shop really is very good and here is why: 1) They tend to keep a lot of the most useful things in stock, and having a huge selection of used stuff means a lot of money saved when going in to get something. 2) The stuff that they carry tends to be practical, no nonsense, well-priced gear. This is not a place to buy a $50 carbon fiber water bottle cage for your cervelo, but is the place to buy a really cheap used water bottle cage for your grocery getter or touring bike. 3) This shop rewards regulars. It takes a little persistence to become a regular, but it is worth it. Remember that this shop is so close to the university that they have to deal with every slack-jawed freshman troglodyte who comes in looking for a bike for under $25 or complains about the five bucks they charge to fix a flat. How do you differentiate yourself from these masses? Bring a sixer of beer in for the guys behind the counter when they do something nice for you. Seriously. You will be remembered and rewarded for your generosity. It is true that sometimes getting attention quickly in this place can be a bit of a challenge, but this shop has a pretty wide clientele ranging from very advanced cyclists to people who are brand new to the game. If you look confused enough someone will help you and the people who do help you generally do know what they are talking about. This shop can get REALLY busy on weekends when the weather is nice. Go on weekdays for more time with the service people. And even though this shop sells used bikes (and some really nice ones too) it is not the only used bike shop in town. 2020 cycles is sometimes a little richer in used bike selection and if you are willing to put in the time, you cannot beat Craigslist. read more
