I can't believe we've lived off of River Road for 10 years and haven't tried this place yet. We will be returning to try all the different bread, pastry and baked goods. The loaves of bread looked so enticing, right there as you're waiting to order, it was hard not to buy one yet. We came by for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The fresh made menu is small but I enjoyed not having to pick between 30 different options on 10 pages. Even then I had a hard time deciding between the biscuits and gravy and the breakfast sandwich. Ultimately the gentleman ahead of us in line recommended the B&G so that's what I got (a half order anyway). My father ordered the croissant and egg sandwich and my husband ordered the eggs Bennie. I don't think we waited more than 10 minutes for food. My B&G were very good, it was a slightly different biscuit than I expected but I still really liked it, it had kind of a buttery-crisp crust on it (think almost grilled cheese exterior). Very good. My husband enjoyed his benedict but my father felt the croissant sandwich was missing something flavor-wise but to be fair he admitted his taste buds aren't what they used to be now that he's 83. The outside area looked inviting, it was a nice enough day we should have sat out there. The staff were friendly and happy and quick. Reality Kitchen is a vocational training site for the disabled. It's also one of my favorite places to eat in Eugene! Prices are good and the food's great. I had pancakes, eggs, bacon, and home fries when I was last there. Pancakes were perfect, and the syrup wasn't maple, but some kind of clear buttery stuff that was out of this world. Especially of note: the home fries were among the best I've ever had. And the bakery!! Everything from bread to cakes to cookies--all good. One of my friends had a HUGE slice of chocolate peanut butter cake, and it was to die for. The person who served us was cheerful and helpful, and everything arrived promptly and as ordered. The hours are weird, so check with them before going. But, go for sure--you'll thank me! read more

I've been coming to this incredible establishment for 5-6 years! The service and food are amazing! I can't say enough about the biscuits and gravy and in my opinion they are the best in town. Believe me when I say I have had biscuits and gravy in most of the restaurants in Eugene! The soups and sandwiches are equally delicious. They recently added tamales and Pozole to the menu.... delicious. The fresh breads are fabulous. They will slice for you and the challah bread makes the best French toast! The desserts are fantastic- from the bread pudding to the upside down cake are delicious. The owners are spectacular people- always giving back to the community. When I want a BLT, this is the only place I'll go. Every part of the sandwich is delicious--toasty sourdough, crisp lettuce, savory tomatoes, thick bacon, and just the right amount of mayo. On point. Every single time. Today I had a delicious drink. I think it was a special and I'm glad I got it. I believe it was called a "Berry Me" refresher: Hibiscus tea with crushed berries and some fruit syrups. (It's supposed to have coconut milk, but that's not my fave and they easily modified it.) This place never lets us down. Great food, friendly staff...amazing looking baked goods and big fluffy loads of bread. Prices are fair and you get a ton of food for the money. For an establishment that operates as a job skills training program for individuals, we received better service than we have at most other restaurants. Those who call this a Eugene gem are totally correct! Somehow I had never been although it's a short walk from my house. And now I can't wait to go back! My husband and I were amazed at how delicious everything was. When ordering, I wanted to try so many things but restrained since I didn't know how good it was. Now, I wished that I had gotten more. Stumbled across this gem one afternoon, and everything looked and smelled delicious! The staff were super friendly and helpful, and the bread, baked goods, and pastries were beautiful - not to mention generously priced! I ordered the Goat Guru sandwich on ciabatta, and it is hands-down the best ciabatta bread I've ever had. The best part is that Reality Kitchen to me is that it's a non-profit whose goal is to offer employment to people with and without disabilities of all experience levels. When I walked in, I was asked if I'd been there before and then was explained the wonderful mission of reality kitchen. Excellent food, friendly service, great atmosphere, very nice ambience, and a great mission. Reality Kitchen is quite possibly the best place to eat in the whole River Road/Trainsong vicinity, and certainly the only bakery-cafe in that area. Can't remember which roaster their coffee comes from, but it definitely holds its own with Allann Bros, Cafe Mam or Full City. Also, the issues with no signage visible from River Road and with no outdoor seating, are in the process of fundraising to rectify. read more

I'm super happy to have found this Eugene gem. Not only is this a nonprofit, Jim and Catherine the organization's leaders are super nice people with a passion for what they do. There is fresh bread, deserts, coffee, local beers and cider, and a nice breakfast and lunch menu. They also host community events on Thursday and Friday evenings.
