Dosa - Look at the size of this thing! A must-try!
Stacie W.

What we ordered: Nair Dosa - This was amazingly delicious. I've never had something like it in the States and all I can say is "wow!" The crepe-like pancake is out of this world. Good for sharing with 2-3 people. Banana Boli - Love the texture of the batter and the flavor goes well with any savory starters. Chicken Samosa - Surprisingly yummy samosa. One of the best I've ever had. Kappayum Meenum - Tasty spicy fish dish. Remember to order a side of their coconut rice to go along with it. You won't regret it. Overall, Rasa might not be the fanciest Indian restaurant in London, but the food here is solid and tasty! I'd recommend making a reservation first since it gets packed quickly during dinner hours.

They do Take Away! It's a great thing to have such a good restaurant in such an expensive area, but to also have the offer of Take Away makes it amazing. Although its a take away with a difference. One can only decide between three options: vegetarian, meat or big meat Mealbox. I normally go for the Vegetarian Mealbox, which includes two sorts of spicy curry, rice, a mini bread, a side dish and some milk pudding for desert. It's a good sized meal for £4. It makes me happy. As the curry flavours don't change this is not something for every week, but for special "I need a treat." days.

Beginning of the sadhya !

Not sure about the food other days but we specifically made reservations to go have the Vishu Sadhya. All I can remember was great food coming onto my banana leaf and immdly jumping into my tummy. We had amazing fresh food that was served and a great variety for the saadhya. It was on a weekend so the restaurant was pretty full ! The servers knew to explain each item (although only when asked) and it was the right amount of quantity. They could have gone a little generous with the servings , but with the number of items I get that it was wise of them to have done what they did. Overall a-satisfied-meal experience. A bit pricey for what they offer, but defly worth it, for the occasion .

An array of southie yummies.

Wow. This. Food. Was. Incredible. Very spicy. Try the rice pancakes. Try the aubergine based dish called Bagar Baingan. I've previously had South Indian cuisine, but thought that meant just dosas. In fact, South Indian food includes lots of saucy dishes with light notes of coconut. (It tastes lighter and healthier than most creamy North Indian dishes.) The server we had upstairs, Harish, was nice and polite, and very informative about all the dishes. He basically picked our dinners with some minor input and we definitely didn't regret it. The appetizers were really special. Try the banana boli!! It was sweet but had a great peanut sauce. :-D

We had wonderful service here! Dishoom is a popular place but the dinner line for 3 on a weeknight…read morewasn't too bad (they don't take reservations), I thought the line moved fairly fast and at some point they handed out small sample cups of chai to us which was nice. It's very spacious inside. Although their black bean dish Black House Daal is popular, I don't think it's something I'd reorder because I don't like beans that much in general. As a chicken tikka masala fan, I enjoyed their butter chicken the most. It's the closest thing they have to chicken tikka masala--which they don't have, they only have chicken tikka which is dry and quite spicy, has no creamy sauce. I also liked the okra fried, which is a type of fry I'm not used to seeing! It's got flavor, and I also loved the chutney and sauces on the table! I enjoyed a Dishoom Margarita which was strong in alcohol content and flavor, and a nice addition to the meal. They have an interesting drink menu, where you will find lots of nonalcoholic and rather healthy options! They have a small shelf in the middle of the room where they sell some of their chai and cookbooks amongst other things.

I just do not understand the hype surrounding this restaurant. It's hard to get a reservation and…read morethere's a long queue to get a table without one. I just don't get it. In my opinion, there are 2 main things to know about Dishoom: it's an Indian restaurant that is a chain, with 11 locations worldwide. The food is really good for a chain, bit it doesn't begin to come close to a restaurant that takes care of of its individual customers. Walking in, there's lots of energy. People are having a good time, there's no question. We were seated upstairs where there must have been around 40 tables. All of the staff are walking around in a hurry, cause everything here is in a hurry. The intention is to get you our in less than an hour. They want you in, through, and out. I saw this with multiple tables. Our server Yanko came to our table quite promptly and helped us make selections, both for food and drinks. For the first time in my experience eating in a restaurant, the appetizers arrived minutes before our cocktails. They came so fast that we didn't even think it was our order. And then moments after the drinks arrived, all of the main dishes and sides were placed on the table. With no way to keep anything warm. All of this with 10 minutes of placing the order. I appreciate prompt service, but this takes it to an absurd extreme. Our appetizers included the house Chaat and prawn koliwada. I enjoyed the prawns more but the flavors were facile, not close to what I expect and have enjoyed in excellent Indian restaurants. The main dishes were the Goan monkfish curry and Sali Goan. These were also just OK, absolutely nothing special. The cheese naan was soggy, though the flavor was good. This was an unacceptable texture for a naan. Dessert was Basmati Kheer, flavorful Basmati rice with fruit compote on top. In between and unneeded, was a thin layer of creme brulee. I did enjoy my tea: ginger, lemon and honey and my wife liked her mint tea. I do not know the restaurant scene in Edinburgh, we've been here for 4 days. But this is just not a place I'deven consider returning to. It's really a factory that feeds folks, not a restaurant that cares for its customers. The business model had been optimized to maximize income with lots of throughput. What's been almost completely lost in my opinion, is the heart and soul of the dining experience.

We managed to snag a reservation here before coming to London on a Saturday around 6:30 PM. We got there right on time and and our table was ready immediately. We had great booth in the back of the restaurant so it wasn't too loud. We all ordered some drinks when we sat down and opted for a Kingfisher to drink. For appetizers, we got some samosas and chili chicken which were delicious! They also gave us some of these rice crackers with different sauces which were delicious. For our entrees, we got some biryani, ruby chicken and rice, malai chicken, the gunpowder potatoes and 3 orders of naan! It was all delicious! The biryani with the yogurt sauce is my personal favorite but their garlic naan is great too. For dessert, we got the chocolate cake and I opted for the chai to end the meal which was delicious! This meal was stunning and you must stop by Dishoom while in London.

Although they offer a set lunch menu, I went à la carte to try exactly what I wanted: Chicken Butter Masala, an Indian Onion & Green Chilli Salad, and Garlic Naan (which I appreciated they offer in single pieces). For drinks, I started with their signature Masala Margarita, paired the meal with a Salty Masala Lassi, and finished with a Masala Chai. It was more food than I usually eat, but it was too good not to finish. Every dish was outstanding--bold, layered flavors with distinct character. It really highlighted how exceptional Indian cuisine can be. The drinks had creative twists and complemented the food beautifully. Service was warm, attentive, and efficient without ever feeling formal or rushed. I could tell the staff would gladly accommodate special requests if needed. It was all very deserving of its two Michelin stars. Total bill: GBP 94 including drinks, service, etc. One tip for first-time visitors: go easy on the rice and bread. The other dishes are far too good to fill up on carbs.

The waitress went back and redlined the menu to show what he could have, what he couldn't, and what they might be able to alter. Super nice and it didn't take more than a few minutes. As for the food, a-maz-ing Indian. I recommend their prawn special - not too spicy but very flavor forward. The naan was a nice side to order as well. This location is fairly big with seating on the main floor, downstairs, and outside in a cover lounge area. We had a reservation, although they probably could have handled us if we didn't. As soon as you walk in, they offer to hang your coat. The young lady who was our server for the evening gave us the best recommendations--I wish I knew her name. She was so patient with our many questions and didn't steer us wrong. My friends and I started with the wings as an appetizer. They had the perfect amount of grill flavor and were very saucy and well seasoned. There was no classy way to eat them--they were that good. For our entrées, we ordered the goat shoulder and the half rack of lamb chops. The half rack is more than enough for one person, especially with naan and rice. The reviewers were not lying when they said you must try the lamb chops. They came out sizzling, and we laughed because it took us back to dining at Chili's (iykyk). Perfectly seasoned and incredibly tender. The same goes for the goat shoulder. This was my first time trying it, and I was very impressed with how good it tasted. While I'm not usually a dessert person, you must try the carrot pastry. Think of it like a McDonald's apple pie (the old-school one), but with warm carrot filling on the inside and a sprinkle of pistachio on the outside--just 10x better. Everything here tasted spectacular, including the chili naan. Can't wait to come back and try more dishes.
