I've had the Range Cafe for lunch, but this was the first time for breakfast. This location is a bit small and was not packed on this cold morning. The waiter was really quick and attentive. Now on to the food.. I had a breakfast burrito with bacon, smothered in red and green chile. The plate portion was decent sized and filled me up (came with beans and potatoes). I will say that the food is not bad, but it was definitely not something to rave about. I will say that it was "alright". I've been to a few locations of the range, but this was my first visit to this newer location. We went for brunch with my mother as a random mom-daughter date on Sunday around 11:00. The wait was about 25 minutes, with a cramped area to sit in while waiting. You could hardly hear the hostess as she called out names, it would be unfortunately easy to be passed up. They took over an old steakhouse and I love what they did with the decor. The mosaic glass is beautiful and I love the whimsical cows everywhere. The bathroom was not very clean as was made especially apparent by stainless steel bathroom stalls, it looked poorly kept and toilet paper was everywhere. The food I received was just ok. I ordered one of the special breakfasts, the tamale with eggs. The tamale itself had good flavor but if I did not get any chili on the tamales they would have been extremely dry and not as well flavored. The beans, eggs, and potatoes were meh. I should have ordered the blue corn pancakes, which my mother ordered and loved. Plenty of pinon hidden within. It was an expensive brunch ringing in at over $40 for 3 of us with nothing fancy or extra. A plain waffle, the blue corn pancakes (with the bacon), one coffee, and my tamale breakfast. I could have made two of the dishes easily at home with more flavor and was sadly disappointed. Another reason for the star deduction is the noise. There has to be a solution to dampen the sound in some way, it was so loud we couldn't hear one another at the table and gave up talking. We also saw a whole family of 6 with a toddler be seated near us who needed a high chair, then after getting appetizers and drinks, they were moved because they only just realized they couldn't put a high chair that would reach that table. That was poor planning on the hostess. The chairs surprisingly had wheels on the bottom, which for my mother that is handicapped, it was unsuspected and nearly caused her to slip and fall. I'd be willing to try it again, but I like the Bernallilo location much better. read more

Verdict: It's not pancake perfection but it's darn close. (Rating based on breakfasts alone). I don't know that I'd ever go here for lunch or dinner. The menu items don't call to me and the prices seem a little steep. Breakfast is another story. The granola pancakes and coffee were as good as I remembered from the last five times. I've had other breakfast items here but I keep coming back to those pancakes. They're massive and the fruit+yoghurt topping gives a nice balance to the density. All breakfast options seem pretty good here. Lots of food on your plate with each. I'd go here any time, so long as that time is before 10am. read more

I will NEVER, in all my days, understand why it takes over 20 minutes to deliver a hamburger and a club sandwich to a table at 4:30 p.m. when we are one of about four tables in the place occupied!!! The medium-well burger was somewhat overdone for having been on the grill for too long. Apparently the fries held up the order, as the server said they had "just come out" of the fryer. Hubby said the burger was good. My Lobo Club left a LOT to be desired. First, I had to remake the sandwich and tried to give the "hospitality" person a short lesson in how to put together a sandwich. The person who made it took a handful of turkey and plunked it down into the middle of the toast, leaving at least an inch of bare bread around a pile of turkey at least 1-1/4" thick. I took the halves apart and scattered the turkey over the entire piece of toast, and in the process noted that the avocado advertised to be on the sandwich was skimpy, at best. And on half of the sandwich, about half of one of the slices of bacon is hanging outside the perimeter of the sandwich. We've eaten at The Range at Cottonwood multiple times, and every time there is something "off" about the way the food is presented. I am convinced that there is only one person in the kitchen responsible for getting the food out and that person can do only one order at a time. I'm not sure I'll ever go back, because they server and the "hospitality" person both seem sort of lackadaisical and unconcerned about the issues that come up. read more

Ate here for lunch today and I loved it! I ordered the turkey dinner plate which was delicious! It's essentially thanksgiving dinner but with green Chile gravy on top. The cranberry sauce was delicious! Homemade and had a hint of orange cinnamon which I though gave a nice flavor. The hubs got a turkey green Chile club and that was also delicious! He also decided to order a side of red Chile and pour over the fries. 100% recommend! It was delicious! My 2 girls loved there meals off the kids menu. One burger and one quesadilla and they feel it was cooked perfectly which is agree. The decor of this place is very cute! Nice casual ambiance and the server was very very friendly! We finished it off with a chocolate covered cream puff which I thought was pretty good for a diner cream puff ! Overall I love this place and will be back because there is something for everyone! I also can't wait to try their dinner menu it looks like they have a great cocktail list and can't go wrong with the food! Well.... for those of you in the Albuquerque area, odds are you have checked out the original Range Cafe in Bernalillo! (If you haven't shame on you... and you call yourself a 505er!?) I was skeptical to try because I was afraid I wouldn't find the same quality food! But I was wrong... everything was spot on except the location. Food as always is amazing! I had the carne and papas plate... with chorizo, green chili and scrambled eggs.... ! I am sorry to all you true believers for not taking any pics...and for those of you out of towners looking for good New Mexico style food... come here or any of there locations! What happened to this place? I hadn't eaten here for several months. A group of 5 of us went on Sunday. The coffee tasted like it had been made last week,a very bitter and burned taste. The potatoes and pinto beans that came with my meal had no seasoning at all. The green chili sauce was extremely bland. The burrito looked like it had come through an assembly line. On a positive note, the eggs were scrambled and cooked properly. All in all,I was more than disappointed in this cafe. I hope this was the exception rather than the rule read more

Been to this location a few times, breakfast is always amazing but I recently started a vegan diet and I was worried about eating out (why I'm writing this review, vegan approved!). Luckily they have an "impossible burger" claiming plant based, all you have to do is ask for no cheese and it's a huge vegan meal complete with fries or salad (skip the cheese!). I get why it's called impossible... I studied it for a few minutes after my first but because the texture is dead on to meat. Flavor is good / little bland. But for a patty of veggie I was amazed. Comes with lots of toppings. Only thing is a asked for lots of pickles, I got one slice it was busy and I slammed that burger down anyway. Even if you're not vegan, try it! You'll be surprised. Shout out to Josseline who was attentive in taking our order. Thank you again for your service. Our sitting area was clean but don't look up at the fixtures...they were pretty dusty. On this visit we started with chips, queso, and guacamole and a Michelob Ultra. The chips were freshly fried so they arrived warm, the queso looked like it was pre purchased, warmed up and not mixed well. The guacamole was ok. Beer was great! On this visit I ordered a cup of Green Chile Chicken Stew. Hubby ordered the Lobo Club sandwich. Let's talk presentation. The cup of green chile stew was presented to me as you see in the photo. I am not used to having carrots in my stew and I really didn't taste the chile. I added the side of chile my hubby requested for his meal to my bowl to help with the flavor but it was still average. The tortilla was warm and not over heated. In regards to the sandwich the turkey was dry. The fries were great they are lightly breaded and crispy. Most of the time the Range has pretty good food, until covid. Like all restaurants now these days, you pay more for less. My issue is the queso and it is not the same unless I got something by mistake. What I received more resembled a salad dressing than queso . I realize sometimes you have to adjust or cut corners but for the increase in price...this is unacceptable. Also on many on line orders, I have had an entree or dessert that has missing in the order. JMHO, but I think these issues should be brought up to the Range and the et al. read more

I did not take the manager up on their offer of getting to bottom of my first order. I went again in person with a few other people, and we ate in the restaurant. It was much better in person and everyone enjoyed their food. It took a while to get our food and the restaurant wasn't super busy. We weren't in a rush so it wasn't a big deal. The coffee was good. My food was pretty good, but I only ordered the basic breakfast which is eggs, potatoes and bacon. The potatoes were cooked well, and so were the eggs. Someone got the veggie omelette and they said it was pretty good! I would change this to 4 stars but the lack of consistency with this restaurant over the last few visits prevents me from doing so. read more

I have loved dining at the other locations for many years and this was my first time to this location. I came with family so we had a big crowd, and this location was central to all of us. We were seated and I ordered the bowl of green chicken Chile stew. My friend ordered a cup Of the same. What we got was chicken tortilla soup. It was a tomato broth base with no potatoes in it and certainly no green chiles. The other soup of the day was chicken garbanzo and this didn't have garbanzo so we weren't quite sure what we had. But it wasn't what we ordered. It came with a flour tortilla. We ate it because we were hungry and didn't want to make a fuss in front of our large party but we were very disappointed. Hubby ordered the three taco plate (chicken) and also said it didn't taste as flavorful and spicy as the other locations. I am happy to say that this is one of the few places in Albuquerque that has a dog friendly patio, the staff were amazing they ensured my fur baby had water and was comfortable. We did not have to wait long to be helped, the drinks and food came out pretty quick. The blue corn chicken enchiladas were delicious with green Chile. The huevos Rancheros was good. I have been anti Range Cafe for so long. See, when I first moved to New Mexico, I heard amazing things about the Range. So Mom, Dad and I went to their Bernalillo location. My mom ordered pancakes, and when she got them there was no syrup. We asked for syrup and they said it would result in a charge of $1. Which is ridiculous. Anyway, I've avoided the place since. My dad had gone to this location on Coors by Cottonwood Mall and wanted to go, so we went. I did not order pancakes and it's been a long time, so maybe they don't charge for syrup anymore or maybe this location doesn't. I don't know. What did I order? Papas Con Carne. This is the Range breakfast fries, covered in chorizo (or carnitas), white cheddar, and 2 eggs. I got my eggs over easy. I was suprised by how big my breakfast was. My dad ordered the NM Benny and enjoyed his meal. I brought a lot home, cause it was too much. I'm going to make my own eggs and put it on top for a second meal. I'm still bitter about the syrup issue, but I will go back to this location and probably order the same thing. Try it, you won't be disappointed! read more

We ate at the new Range Café that went in near Cottonwood Mall in the old Lone Star steakhouse building tonight. They have only been open for a few days and the restaurant was about 2/3 full tonight at 6:45 when we arrived. As all the Range Cafes are, this one is eclectic with an emphasis on good food, lots of touches that catch your eye, comfortable seating and a nice atmosphere. They did a nice job making over the old Lone Star building. There are tables, booths and half booth / half chair set ups that so many places have. There is also a bar with a few TV sets and separating the dining room and the bar area is kind of a long, communal table with stools to sit on. Our server was obviously new to the restaurant business, which is fine. We try hard to be patient with people when we eat out, especially if they're new to being a server. It can be a tough job. She tried hard and while a little forgetful, did a decent job. We ordered chips and guacamole as an appetizer, but were disappointed on two fronts. The first, I think our server forget we ordered them because we had to ask after 20 minutes what had happened to them. Second issue was that the chips had no salt at all and then the guacamole was bland. So combined, they just weren't appealing. There were small pieces of jalapeno and tomato in the guacamole, but there wasn't much flavor at all. It needed some citrus and possibly salt. Because it took so long to come out, we literally got our dinner 2 minutes after our appetizer. Hubby had the Hoosier tenderloin and said it was very good. I had the BLOATEM (BLT with onion and avocado) sandwich minus tomato. It comes on an English muffin, which sounded like a good idea, but in the end it really wasn't. The muffin wasn't toasted and so it got soggy and started to fall apart, resulting in everything ending up on my plate, scattered. I think in future, I'd ask if it could be done on sourdough toast instead. The bacon had great flavor and the avocado was a nice addition. Overall we enjoyed our visit, but we'll wait to return until some of the kinks get worked out. Obviously going to a new restaurant just a few days after they opened, we knew what to expect and were fine with it. New servers will improve and things will flow better pretty soon. As a big plus, management was very evident and quite willing to help. Staff members circulated quite often with water and iced tea, stopping and asking if anyone wanted more, which was great. This will be a good addition to the Range Café family, I'm sure. read more

Range Cafe is a breakfast/lunch hotspot here in ABQ and it's really good.... I walk in get seated quickly when it was busy which is great. The place was cool with its designs and style, also the employees shirts were fun and fit in with the atmosphere. I open the menu, great selection of food for breakfast and lunch. I decide to get the NY strip with eggs on the side. I get it very quick and it's one of the best breakfast plates I've ever had. Cooked medium well and excellent tasting, the eggs as well. The staff was very nice and helpful with what's good on the menu and I just had a solid, delicious breakfast this Saturday morning. I really want this place to be like the Bernalillo range café which I ate at for years and loved. And I know how this food SHOULD taste. Same menu. The Huevos Ranchos just are not good here. Potatoes dry and cold no spice little flavor. Food in general was cold. I asked my friend what she would recommend and she said her Carne adovada would have been good had the food not been cold. The Range is an ok place. I had the Chile Relleno's that were stuffed but a bit on the watery side. Service was good, especially on the water fills. The plates were serviced quick too, even before others were still eating....improvement needed here in being too observant. Next time I'm going to try the meatloaf with green chili's. read more

Good meal, great service, nice location... The Range hit a homerun with us tonight! I've been to other locations and though this is new it's my favorite. We had a great waiter who was attentive and friendly, it's rare that a waiter continues to check on you and fill your glasses after you've paid your bill. The menu has a nice variety of New Mexican and comfort foods. Because I love tacos I ordered the taco trio and was happy to find that they get it - they double up the tortilla so they don't fall apart - WIN! Range Café, this place is pretty good depending on which location you go to. The Coors location, close to Cottonwood Mall, is just alright. My friend and I went because we were in the mood for dessert and knew that the Range Café has their famous, delicious Cream Puffs. When we arrived we were seated immediately. While we were waiting for our drinks, I was in the mood to try out their huevos rancheros, so I ordered it. Everything came out fairly quickly. As always the Cream Puff was delicious. I would recommend anyone to try it. Unfortunately the huevos rancheros were just alright. For some reason, the food at this specific location just isn't authentic. There's just something about it that tastes commercialized. The original range location, as well as the one on Central, are both great New Mexican restaurants. Quite disappointed that the hostess would not tell the waitstaff or that the waitstaff seemingly blew us off. We have ordered take out from this location several times through out the pandemic and it has been excellent every time. The packaging retains the integrity of the food (food doesn't slide around and become damaged) and it has been hot or very warm each time.... Not to mention delicious. We eat at the Original over in Bernalillo a lot and we were close to the Cottonwood location so we ordered carry out. Man, someone needs to do a QA on carry out orders at this location. No substitutions as requested, food cold, was asked how we wanted the salmon cooked but it was over cooked. Just poor quality on the details! read more
