Wow what an incredible little cafe. The history and the amount of films that have been made here is amazing. Don't let the exterior make your decision to eat here or not. Once inside make sure take a moment to look around as you will find specific booth locations from films and maybe even a music video booth. They do have limited hours as they close at 3pm sharp daily however when they are open they offer a full menu of breakfast lunch and dinner Our waitress was super sweet and amazing and there was another empty that was talking to us about the history and how it used to be a 24 hour little truck stop back in the 60s. I ordered the Mexican special which had a tamale, enchilada, a taco rice and beans. The taco was your average ground beef taco. However everything else was flavorful and plentiful I recommend you doing both red and green sauce for a nice kick of spice. You can choose from tortillas or sopapillas. I recommend the sopapillas as they are like pillows. They are good with your meal as a savory aspect and then they have honey on the table to use on them as a nice dessert to finish out your meal Hubby ordered the chile relleno plate The best peppers he's ever had and they are filled with a lot of cheese. Been on the road for over 23 hours and needed to stop for breakfast. Found this hidden gem off 40 west. Family owned restaurant. Authentic and friendly as soon as we walked in the door. Don't let the outside fool you, this food is fire. There are no real parking spots but a lot in front. Our server was super personable and asked about our road-trip, This looks like a cozy breakfast cafe but they also serve lunch and dinner. The adobada and eggs was delicious, had some kick. Great people and great food! We found this place on our last road trip on Route 66. Out of the way, but worth the detour. Not fancy, just really tasty food and uncrowded. We were able to get our little 21' camper trailer in and tow it around through the back and park so we could then pull right out with no backing up! So I went on a Sunday morning and the place was full. This initially made me excited because if it's full means the food will be good and worth waiting for. Well then came. The customers. I was waiting to be seated because had never been there. Another couple was waiting and got seated. Then I let an older couple have the bench to sit and wait and would have been next. Well 3 different people came in after me and then they would just sit down at dirty tables even though I was waiting. Of course no one said anything to them because they need tips. But I asked the waitress if maybe I was doing it wrong and should be seating myself and she just said they shouldn't be doing that. Meanwhile the couple on the bench got up and left after people started coming on and they weren't getting seated. After I finally got seated, it was ok. The staff was friendly enough, but they stayed pretty busy. I will say the prices were great which is probably why it was packed. I ordered huevos rancheros; it was ok. I will say the sopapillas I had here were the best I've had in albuquerque so far because they tasted more baked than fried and so was less greasy and a little thicker. I would definitely get those again. I also had the French toast which was less than 5 bucks and pretty good. Overall I would go back primarily because I love in the area and the prices are good. And hopefully I will find some other dish on the menu that is really great. read more

So you are driving route 66 and then there is this Cafe 66, how can you possibly pass it by? We stopped in for breakfast and was very happy with our stop. The place was packed (including local police force) and so we sat at the counter. Service is fast and immediate. The smiles are free flowing and so is help, but the coffee is not. We each had one cup and that was it, we were never offered another cup and because there were only 2 gals working the entire place flagging one down was difficult. What you will get here, is a large breakfast for a very decent price FAST. This is a come in, order, eat and go kinda place. The atmosphere is late 50's, early 60's diner and it is immaculate. I have never seen formica countertops shine like this. Everything is so clean and well taken care of. I believe because of the size they do not foster people who come in to nurse a cup of coffee for an hour, they want you fed and gone. Come back tomorrow. You can tell the place is filled with locals who know each other by name, I love that feeling. Our breakfasts were decent. Hubby got a normal American breakfast, nothing to scream about, but it was good and filling. I had the chorizo breakfast with scrambled eggs and I added beans to my plate. It was tasty, but the beans really needed the homemade salsa to go with it, otherwise they were bland. The salsa is REALLY good. Even though this particular Cafe hasn't been around since route 66 was, it was still very reminiscent of that era and a lot of fun to stop in and enjoy for a bit. read more

If you are going down Rte. 66 on Albuquerque's west side , you must stop into this little hole in the wall cafe that heartens back to the days when Rte. 66 was a thing. The nostalgia is enough of a reason to visit. But beyond that, the food is fabulous. No frills, but good fresh basic cafe food and coffee. My wife and I had the huevos rancheros, with eggs over medium, laid out in a bed of corn tortillas, and smothered with melted cheese and green Chile. They came with a basket full of hot freshly fried sopaipillas and hot coffee that was a cut above what you get in most cafes. There is also a pop culture perk- this cafe was featured in an episode of Breaking Bad a few years ago! read more

If you have not been to Cafe 66 let me be the one to tell you that you are missing out on (in my opinion) the best New Mexican food in ALBUQUERQUE! My boyfriend and I have been eating here at least once a week for the past two years so I guess you can say we are considered regulars! Since the beginning we have been treated with respect, welcoming arms, and good company from all of the employees. It is very hard to find great service sometimes and the fact that this place can be swamped with customers and the wait staff still finds the time to take great care of you and get to know you is outstanding! Also the food is always excellent; no matter what you order from the menu, you will be satisfied (We know because we have tried almost everything on the menu! The environment is great and the fact that this is a local business makes it way more appealing to visit than a chain restaurant for breakfast and lunch. I could tell this was a local hotspot. Lots of happy regulars coming and going, the waitresses greeting in Spanish and English. A couple of customers greeted us as well! Told us how good the food was and asked if we'd ever been there before, told us how much we would enjoy and what to order. We got seated after about a two minute wait. The wait staff was on us like a chicken on a June bug. We ordered the eggs over easy and a side of bacon, came with either tortilla bread or sopapillas. Also ordered the Polish sausage, Mexican style with hash browns & tortilla. The food was great. The place was kind of noisy, lots of plates clanking in machines in the kitchen roaring, but what do you expect for a diner? Only real challenge was the bathrooms. See the picture of the men's bathroom floor with some substance that looks like pee. My friend said he couldn't even stand close to the toilet due to all that. Also the mirror has graffiti on it.
