The Chancla is a new place in town with an attractive menu for breakfast and lunch. It is a familiar and rustic place at the corner of Ross and San Mateo. We met with a friend to finally try this place. Candice was very attentive and friendly, welcoming us with a great smile and energy. We ordered the chancla, the creamy chicken chilaquiles, and the carne adovada burrito. The food took a while, even though there were not too many people. The chancla was by far the best of the dishes, with delicious and spicy chorizo. The red and green sauces are bright, spicy, and unique. The burrito needed the adovada to be marinated and unfortunately it had more potatoes than meat. The chilaquiles had perfectly fried tortillas with a delicious green salsa, but it was not creamy and the chicken by itself was plain in flavor. The side guacamole was really good! Overall, this is a promising new place with killer red and green salsas and legit chorizo. They have taken feedback from their patrons to improve their menu, which to me is priceless. Next time, I may get the chancla for myself or the tres leches French toast.

Enjoyed another wonderful Sunday lunch here! The food was delicious, the service was great, and I really love the wide variety of gluten-free options and the care they take when preparing gluten free plates.

We visited The Chancla during Balloon Fiesta week after the morning ascension, and it was the best decision we made! There was only one other table, so there wasn't any wait at all. The space is cute and cozy inside, with a little patio outside for enjoying the sunshine. My husband ordered the Country Scramble but asked for over-easy eggs instead. Not technically a scramble, but they were happy to accommodate, and he loved it. Our son got the Kid's French Toast, and his eyes practically popped out of his head when the server placed it in front of him. He couldn't have been more excited and completely demolished it. My husband snuck a bite and confirmed it was delicious. I had the gluten-free Banana Bread French Toast with a side of over-medium eggs and gluten-free red chile, and it was absolutely fantastic. Thank you, The Chancla, for proving that gluten-free doesn't have to be boring or flavor-free. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you giving gluten-free diners real choices beyond the basics! As soon as we left, my husband and I agreed that The Chancla just became one of our go-to spots. We will absolutely be back and are recommending The Chancla to everyone.

The Chancla was pretty good, the owners were the only ones working today so the food took a bit to come out, but not any longer than expected with just one cook. I ordered their Chancla dish, which was very tasty with red and green chile, the chorizo was delicious! My wife had the poached eggs with turkey meal with bacon bits and a side kale salad which was very fresh tasting. The inside is small and a bit cramped but not an issue for us. We love supporting local eateries and we were glad to be able to support the Chancla for today's visit. We may drop in again some time, if you haven't tried it, you definitely should!

It's O.K. the artwork is nice and its quick to get food with a walk up orders counter. My chicken fried steak had great gravy and vegetables but the steak was tough and stringy. If the steak was tender and not cartilage stringy it would have been wonderful.

I had been wanting to try this place as I heard about it on social media. My MIL and I stopped by here for brunch and enjoyed all of our food. The only thing that we weren't a huge fan of was the lack of seating, there were only about 8 tables and if it gets super busy, expect to wait for a table or take it to go. I'm not sure if they have a patio area but hopefully they open up the upstairs section!

Someone who loves tres leches had to get their French toast and it was delicious. The service was good and the atmosphere was alright, just too many flies.

overpriced $7 cinnamon roll - made in house

The Chancla is good, but you should be aware of a couple negative things before you jump in the car and head over. First off, the ventilation system is not up to the task: you will come away smelling like the grill (this is a deal breaker for some of my friends). Secondly, the delicious-looking/no-price-displayed cinnamon rolls towered on the counter? They're $7 _each_ (we each got one) - and, while they're made in-house and the sweet counterwoman bragged on them, they're only regular-sized and not really all that good. As in, I didn't finish mine (if you knew me, you'd be horrified). They're _okay_, just not great - but the $7 each pricing is escandaloso. Okay, that's out of the way: here's the good stuff. Cute, funky space (apparently with living quarters up top) - it was really cold while we were there and snow flurried outside; I'd expect it'll be really warm when the summer gets going. Decent amount of seating (and there's a nice patio outside) and parking. The counterwoman was just as lovely as can be, and efficient. It took a while to get our food because we were at the tail end of a lot of folks coming in on a weekend morning and they obviously make the food to order from scratch. The $10.50 french toast with fruit and real maple syrup was a hit and a good value. The $16 chicken fried steak was really delicious: it was purportedly 8 oz., but I'm pretty sure mine was larger than that, and it was coated in a fantastic crunch and topped with bacon and parsley as well as a nice cream gravy (Cholula, catsup and Tabasco are available should you want to modify). The steak itself was done to a very nice medium and had that good chew that you want - it was tender enough to be cut with a regular knife (they give you a steak knife nevertheless) but it had all the chew that a man wants on a bite of beef. And no gristle or fat lumps anywhere - it was just very good. The CFS had _very good_ calabacitas on the side: somewhat unusual in that the squash was cut pretty thick, but it was cooked perfectly and - well, it was just delicious. (You know how everyone does theirs a little different? Well, the Chancla folks do a good job.) So . . . I'd not get the cinnamon roll again. But I'd happily have another Chancla chicken fried steak tomorrow - yum. I really hope they do well - and suspect they will (people kept rolling through the whole time we were there - regular Albuquerque crowd, not shi-shi or anything). I'll be back - but I might wait to bring ladies until the weather is right for sitting outside, because that grill smell is not something they'd want in their hair.

Very good, stopped in to try it out later on ln a Sunday, they were already out of a few things, but what they had was great... Got the chicken fried steak, and my compatriot got the salmon lox kale salad and a side of bacon, both were quite good. They are still figuring things out but they are off to a great start.

The area looks old and poor, but near the restaurant, we didn't see anything sketchy. When we were leaving, we did see some homeless people at the main intersection, but we didn't see anything we'd describe as sketchy. We did notice there is a mobile home park behind the restaurant, but there is a wall between the mobile home park and the restaurant parking lot. Even if there were police surrounding the mobile home park, we'd still venture inside to eat. The food is that good. We shared the cowboy breakfast burrito and the Santa Fe pancakes. Both were filling and ridiculously good. The Santa Fe pancakes made with blue corn, roasted piñons, green chili, and cheddar jack cheese were different than anything else we've ever had. I'll admit I didn't love my first bite or two, but the more I ate, the more I wanted. The pancakes are dry, but if you drizzle some syrup, it's the perfect match. The accompanying eggs and bacon were cooked perfectly. The cowboy breakfast burrito is massive, filling, and worth every calorie. Even though we were stuffed, we had to get the peach with green chile turnover. We asked if the turnover is served warm and our waitress replied that she could warm it up for is. I'm not sure that it is normally served warm, but I highly recommend it. The turnover flaky, the glaze was silky once warmed up and the peach with green chile was unique and delicious. Five star service and food. I highly recommend Vick's Vittles and hope that I'm in the area again so I can try more of this delicious food.

Our waitress did come back to bring the coffee. Before she got there we were discussing the fact that the entire staff was new. She must have overheard us and took it as some kind of slight to her. Two minutes later the manager came over to inform us that we were being rude to her server and that she would be taking over our service. After some discussion my wife said, "this is ridiculous, guess we won't be coming here again" the manager said "well I'll cancel your order and you can leave now". We said we didnt want her to cancel our order and she just said have a nice day. So we left. Sooo not the Vicks Vittles of the past.

The person who…read moreanswered was incredibly helpful and patiently explained that only the name had changed, which I appreciated. For our meal, we ordered two Chicken & Waffles plates, a Blue Corn Lavender Waffle, and a kids' plate. The Chicken & Waffles were the highlight of the meal, offering a satisfying balance of sweet and savory flavors. The Blue Corn Lavender Waffle was a unique touch and a fun way to try something distinctly New Mexican. Neither my wife nor I cared for the drip coffee, so we asked a staff member if we could swap it out for double espressos. They were happy to accommodate us, and the espresso was a significant improvement. The service was friendly, and the staff made a positive first impression from the phone call all the way through our visit. For our family, the total came to about $80, which felt a little steep. We ended up eating inside since the patio tables were either occupied or unavailable (due to a sleeping homeless person). The restaurant is housed in a renovated older home, and they've done a nice job making the most of the space. One of my favorite touches was the collection of retro waffle makers displayed along the walls, which added a fun, nostalgic charm to the atmosphere. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, and I'd happily return to explore more of the menu.

I had to pick between savory and sweet, and the menu is huge with lots of options plus build your own! I went for savory and got it with goat cheese and spinach (built my own). It was delightful. The blue corn is just a tinge sweet so was an interesting mix. The waffle is a decent size but is super filling and dense. I'll have to try some sweet waffles or some different waffle bases next time! That said there are lots of gluten free options as well, so if that's for you, then don't hesitate to come check it out you won't be disappointed. There is indoor and outdoor seating, though in general the place is small-ish and can get crowded during busy times. Parking is also a bit of an adventure, but so is anywhere in that area. The staff is super friendly as well. All in all a great experience and I will be back. I can't believe it took me so long to get here in the first place!
