Just want to start off with I am not a local and I'm pretty picky about my ramen spots. So trying stuff in a new city is always frightening. This ramen spot though would go well against the ones in Las Vegas. When we got in the place was pretty dim but it's understandable considering that the outside is very bright. I was not sure about sliced cabbage in the bowl because I never find any other ramen shops using cabbage. The gyudon beef bowl is so tasty. It has been quite rainy recently which made me crave some ramen, initially I was going to go to Tampopo Ramen which is pretty close by when I saw Ramen Dozo on the maps. Looking at the reviews and pictures, I decided to go here instead and was definitely not disappointed! I happened to arrive several minutes after opening and there were already several guests seated. The parking is located in a plaza so is pretty vast and by the time I left, most of the parking directly in front of Ramen Dozo was already taken. One of the server seats you down pretty quick and brings you water and then asks if you want any other beverages. I did feel a little rush during the ordering process though. Before I could even take a good look at the menu, another server came by and asked if I was ready and recommended their favorite items, which was what I ended up ordering. I personally didn't feel like I had time to even consider other items. I ended up getting the Shoyu Ramen with pork, then the Sm Gyu Don add on (extra $5.50), and a Geso Karaage (calamari) appetizer. The food was delicious so I guess I didn't mind the initial rush. The ramen broth was super flavorful and the egg and pork was tasty! Before I even realized it, I polished off the entire bowl! I was then too full to eat the other items and got it to-go. The server was pretty attentive though I'm not sure if a little too much, and asked me if I needed the boxes before I even finished the ramen so I felt a little rushed once again. When I got home, I had the rest of the meal for dinner. The Gyu Don was pretty delicious! The beef was tender and the sauce made the rice taste super flavorful! Would definitely order this again! The Geso Karaage was also very crispy and chewy which I enjoy. By the time I left the restaurant, the tables were all filled so I can tell this place gets popular closer to dinner time. Overall, I would come here again to try the other types of ramen! The service did feel a little excessive and made me feel rushed at points but some people may like that so it is personal preference! The Dim Sum is amazing- and the ramen has a great flavor- not bland at all. The staff greet me within 30 seconds of walking in the door, and the cooks and servers are very helpful at guiding to what was best on the menu. I usually get takeout instead of dining in and they always pack a spicy option on the side if I decline the spicy option- that way I can choose how spicy it is when I add the spicy sauce at home. The place is super cute yet not overwhelming with decor, they also have a lot of personal touches like a cartoon on their tip jar! 10/10 on the food and for a decent price too! In an attempt to try different Ramen restaurants that serve non-pork broth, I tried this restaurant with friends. We ordered appetizers and ramen bowls. While the restaurant does serve non-pork broths, certain bowls cannot be replaced with the veggie broth. I ordered the chicken influenza bowl with a veggie broth and shared an appetizer with my friends. The ramen bowl was just ok. I was hungry so had most of it but I didn't like the flavor very much. In comparison to my favorite Ramen place, the flavor here was lacking. The food could have used much more salt as well. The ambience of the restaurant is pretty dark. We were sat pretty quickly on a sunday night. We ordered a tempera bento box, a spicy miso ramen, hot rock appetizer and a Diet Coke. Service was really slow... It took 20mins for the Diet Coke to get to the table but our waters were continually refilled? It took about 45 mins for all our food to arrive. We just started eating when the server returned with the check. Odd... it felt like they were rushing us out when we didn't get food for 45mins and only started eating. Hot rock appetizer was my favorite! Really tasty combo of fried items! Tempura Bento was tasty. Ramen was very good! Food recommendation to order: Tonkotsu and Takoyaki (octopus balls) This place has great ramen. My go to ramen is always tonkotsu (pork base ramen). This place offers if you want your ramen spicy or not for tonkotsu. For people who like spicy and can handle it, I would recommend the spicy tonkotsu. For people who doesn't like spicy, I would order it without. It's pretty spicy. They also have like a spicy sauce on the side as an option if you like medium spicy. I have not tried their other options yet. But I did order the takoyaki and this is honestly the best place I ever had them so far. They come out fresh and hot. The outside of the takoyaki is crunchy/crispy while the inside is soft. I think this is the perfect takoyaki. Other places that I've tried are always soft all around. First time having real ramen! You know, the kind that doesn't come out of a package. Right? How did I make it this far in life with a gapping soup bowl size hole in my soul from lack of authentic ramen? Idk. The standout here for me was not only the fantastic ramen, but the waitstaff was phenomenal! Having an allergy to seafood, I try to own it. That's totally on me, but in some occasions, I'll end up needing to ask the staff about how certain foods are made and what not. It can be especially tricky with soup broths. (Who knew there are so many layers in a soup?)! Not only was the gentleman I spoke with knowledgeable, but he wasn't a jerk about it either. That was much appreciated. I'm so glad I found this Ramen spot, I'm pescatarian so it's hard to find a veggie ramen broth that tastes so good. I order the spicy miso ramen with veggie broth and shrimp, it's delicious and extremely filling. I always end up taking half of it home with me to eat later bc there's so much left over. This is my favorite ramen place in Az. Just understand that it is a small place. There's usually one person cooking and one person serving tables, and there are limited seats. I got the shoyu spicy ramen w shrimp and it was outstanding. Very hefty portion and very authentic. Not spicy at all. I'd give it a 3/10 for spice. Sebasht got the tonkatsu spicy, with pork belly. I highly recommend Ramen Dozo to get the authentic ramen fix. The broth is full of flavor and noodles are cooked to perfection. The toppings are delicious as well. I had the shoyu ramen while the hubby had the tonkatsu ramen. Tonkatsu broth was better but shoyu was good too. I just wish it wasn't so salty. I just couldn't drink any of the broth because of the sodium content (even though I really wanted to). Nonetheless, it was delicious! Remember to try their chicken karage. It tastes better than it looks. Comes out hot and juicy. Although fried, it wasn't greasy at all. The tempura was perfect as well. The batter was perfect and fried just right. Most recent mom placed that I have checked out around the Phoenix Tempe Mesa area. Came here pretty late at night as was craving some Ramen. service Was fast. I ordered the spicy miso ramen with no additional topping. See photo. I did ask for them to make it more spicy. But the did run out of the jalapeno which was a special at that they had going on that night. However they were able to add additional spicy level to it. You can always add more of the spicy chili flakes on the sides as well, which I did. broth was decent. Spiciness probably would of been better if I was able to get their special, but nonetheless decent. wavy Noddles was great. cooked just right. portion size is acceptable, but If I were hungry, which I was that night, it might just barely hit the spot. Egg was medium boiled and fine. Chashu was done fine here. Not dried. Made with flavor. Seating is around medium size inside. I still have not tried Tampopo yet. Wouldn't mind coming back here in the future for a quick fix. But Will need to try other places too. read more

I had a baaaad ramen craving after seeing that there was a ramen noodle festival going down in Phoenix, but I wasn't in the mood to stand in long lines and deal with the city traffic/crowds. Me and hubby decided to walk around and explored the nearby shops (a card trading/gaming store and a smoke shop lol) just to kill the time since there isn't much of a waiting area/lobby. Glad we stuck it out, didn't take 30 min, more like 15. I did notice a lot of people coming in to eat and then walking right out when they were told how long the wait was. Kinda sad, because that's a lot of lost business (even though they don't look like they have a shortage of customers). Finally, the moment of truth. I ordered ramen noodles with pork and added some spice, as well as some gyoza and sake/Kirin Light. Ahhhhhhh, the little angels were singing in my mouth! Their ramen noodles were perfectly cooked and the flavoring of the broth was so satisfying. We sat at the sushi bar and enjoyed watching the sushi chef at work with his craft. Our server was super sweet and attentive despite the rush. 10/10 recommend. I will def be back for more! Just a side note to the owner: fit a few more tables/chairs, you have the room! I really wanted to like this place but after my overall experience, I'd give it a 2.5, 3 stars at best. It was a Friday dinner and surprisingly, we got in without a wait which was awesome. We got a little bit of everything on the menu. For appetizers, we ordered the chicken karage and vegetable tempura. For our entrees, we got miso ramen w/ chicken with a California roll combo and the spicy miso ramen w/ pork with a gyoza combo. We also got hot green tea. Out of everything we got, we only truly enjoyed the chicken karage, gyoza and vegetable tempura. Both the Ramen were so incredibly disappointing - the broth lacked flavor and was just so bland. My miso ramen also had a weird after taste so I honestly barely touched my ramen. While the appetizers were good, the ramen needs a lot of work. Besides the food, the customer service was slow. They seem to have been understaffed on the floor despite it being a Friday night. Although we were seated immediately at the bar, we had to wait 30-40 mins for our actual food. We had the Tonkatsu Combination Ramen with Gyozas and the other combination with California Rolls. The ramen dish was $9.50 and with the combination was an additional $4.50. The Tonkatsu Ramen comes with the Pork Bone Broth and is excellent in flavor and consistency which also includes an egg, Cha Sui and Seaweed. One of the better Ramen in town. The Gyozas are also excellent, slightly crispy on one side gives it a great taste when you bite into it. California Roll is smaller in portions but can tell it is fresh.
