This review is long overdue. I've been ordering Ramen 101 for delivery about once a week all summer because I am obsessed! It is by far the best ramen I've had in the east bay for many reasons. First, the meat is good quality and very fresh. Next, their service is amazing - they prepare the bowls very quickly and always make things right if anything is wrong. Finally, the portion sizes are huge! My go to is usually the miso ramen, extra spicy, and it's so tasty. New ramen place in downtown concord, next to the new Chipotle and across from our go-to theater Brenden. For a new place the service was truly extraordinary. Usually new restaurants have growing pains but not Ramen 101. Prompt polite service, impressive. And then the food! Great ramen. We went from 0 good ramen places to two (Silver Lake and Ramen 101). The ramen here has better add ins, like the mushrooms, but Silver Lake's pork was slightly tastier. Nitpicking though as this food was fantastic. Has a craving for ramen so I decided to. Check out the new kid on the block. Ramen 101. I've been to silverlake, ramen hiroshi and even fat baguette. And so far ramen 101 has given me the best ramen experience. The struggle is that there's not really many good ramen places in the east bay as there is in the South Bay. One can continue to hope, though, right? I went Friday night at 5:30pm and the place wasn't very busy. That's ok because it was 95 degrees outside. Even though it was so hot, I wanted something spicy. I ordered a spicy tonkatsu with extra pork and extra egg. The noodles were chewy but I would have liked it to be thinner. The broth was ok could have been reduced a bit more. The pork was ok it could have been cut thinner and more tender. The mushrooms could have been sliced for a finer texture and it could have had a little more green onion and sprouts but the egg was perfectly cooked and that is always a glorious thing. Along with the ramen, I also got the takoyaki or octopus ball. It was a perfect accompaniment to the ramen. Topped with the signature takoyaki sauce and some shaved katsuobushi it was deliciously creamy and well textured. All in all I would have liked my ramen to be a little more refined. Probably the best ramen spot in the area. Came here at lunch on a Wednesday afternoon, the place is small & therefore pretty pack. Its similar to a fast food joint, you order first than sit down. Water & soda machine on the side so you help yourself. No server, expect when you receive the food. All the staff looked happy & ready to assist. I got the miso ramen level spicy & it was delicious. Definitely coming back for this. The broth was perfectly season & not super spicy or salty. Out the three ramen I tired this was my favorite. The noodles were okay, they're a little more hard than how I like them. Also if you get the apps, ask for the orange sauce. It's so good, its similar to the dressing from I love. Welcome to Ramen 101! I believe their grand opening was on 03.26.19 so shoutout to the boo for finding this new spot in Concord. I ordered the mild Tonkotsu Ramen and the boo ordered the vegetable ramen. The bowls were huge and packed with deliciousness and they're generous with the amount of ramen, vegetables and add-ons. There wasn't too much, or too little of each item in the bowl so it was pretty well-balanced. I can usually tolerate the mild spice level at other places but this bowl might have been a little too overwhelming for me so if you're a fan of a little spice at Ramen 101, I recommend just going for non spicy and save your tongue the hurt. The noodles were more firm than I wanted them to be but besides that, everything I believe was cooked perfectly. We went at 6pm and didn't have to wait long to get a seat. This is probably the first sit down restaurant I've been to where you order your food first at the cashier and THEN find a table to sit at. I think this way you save hella time in waiting for your server to get to your table which was very convenient. The service was great! The server came out to see how we were doing two or three times during our stay. I'd say the only downside is the plastic cups or maybe that's just me being boujee lol. Parking is limited around the actual ramen spot but there's a parking garage located just a minute walk away so that shouldn't be an issue. Once you're stuffed with ramen, there's a plaza and park right behind the building so feel free to explore and walk it all off :) Overall, do I recommend Ramen 101? It's fast casual American ramen that's unpretentious. I think the ramen itself is not bad if you know that coming in. I got the Black Garlic Ramen, which was recommended by our cashier. The noodles are your standard ramen egg noodles, which lacked texture. Toppings included slices of chashu, corn and bean sprouts. A dollar more for the egg, which is just alright but not worth the splurge. I found the bowl to be quite heavy. While the black garlic made the bowl look interesting, I enjoyed my boyfriend's Tonkotsu Ramen much more. I could taste notes of seafood in his broth and it felt cleaner. The chili sauce that they have on their tables is excellent - full of flavor and actually quite hot! Service was very nice. I LOVE RAMEN so when I heard this place opened in Concord I had to check it out. This place is a small restaurant with only about 9 tables max. When you walk in to the restaurant you actually order your food first and then they will let you know where to sit. If there is no empty tables to sit then the cashier will wait before taking your order until a table becomes open. Service here is very friendly from the moment you walk in until you leave. The manager was telling us about how they make their broth's in the back and he was just so nice and informational about the food. After ordering our food came out so fast and that's because they the broth's all ready in the back so when customers order they just add the toppings and so on. I ordered the black tonkatsu which I wish I read the description because I thought I was tonkatsu with the black truffle oil. Whelp I was wrong in a big way! Lol. It was garlic that they add in the black tonkatsu and in my opinion it was just way TOO GARLICKY for my taste buds. I could barely finish the broth because it was garlicky. My fault for not reading! I love ramen, so I was excited to see a new spot open up in the area. My bf and I came here over the weekend to try it out. We came during the inbetween lunch and dinner time, around 4pm. There were a few others dining in but it wasn't super busy. We walked up to the counter and ordered: black garlic ramen (mild), tonkotsu ramen (medium) and an order of gyoza. We then seated ourselves. Our food came up super fast. My bf's black garlic was pretty good, but I still preferred my tonkotsu over his. I ordered mine medium, but honestly the spice level was almost not existent. The gyoza was perfectly fried with a crisp exterior. Our food overall was decent. It wasn't the best but it definitely fulfilled my ramen craving. The gyoza was delish though and I wish I had tried other appetizers such as the crab rangoon. The charsiu was a bit tough and definitely needed a chew to tear it up. The workers though were really friendly. Checking up on us, clearing our table and simply just saying thank you as we were leaving. I really appreciated that. I was pretty excited to see they had a Ramen 101 open in Concord since I've tried the location in Dublin. They have the same concept of ordering/paying at the register at the front, and then you selecting the table you want to sit at with the order number they give you. The ramen came out within 5 minutes and the crab ragoons within 7. We had ordered the Miso and Tonkotsu Ramen. Both soups were alright, they could have had more flavoring in the broth since that's what truly makes the soup its own unique kind. I really liked the Crab Ragoons since the wonton wrapper isn't super thick, and the cream cheese filling was creamy. Despite cash register ordering, someone still comes up to you to check how the food tastes and clears up the table when you're finished with your dish. I went in here craving some ramen since I hadn't had it in awhile. I noticed this place so I tried it out. The atmosphere: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Food was a bit bland. I got the tonkotsu ramen and my boyfriend got the garlic ramen medium. The chashu is okay.. but nothing amazing. Boiled egg was good.. but my broth was so bland, and I didn't taste spice at all. My boyfriend's broth was a bit better but the garlic was just too much. It came out in like 2 minutes, but I feel every ingredient was cold and the ramen was the only thing hot, our dishes were lukewarm shortly after. My boyfriend got the gyoza to start and said it was good, but the kaki fry was over breaded, too crunchy and overcooked. I had the black garlic ramen, which I previously have had 3-4 times. It was so disappointing! Here's why: -The broth was very watered down. It barely had any taste at all. It would be like if I made instant ramen and only added 1/4 of the seasoning packet. -The portion of meat was so tiny. It was 2 super thin, small slices of pork. I could literally eat it all in 1 bite. It did taste great, but other places give much more. -The egg was way overcooked. Ramen egg should be a little runny...most ramen places around here don't do that, but at least it should be a little soft. This egg was hard, and cold. The other components of the ramen were ok. Noodles were al dente, they gave plenty of black garlic. Barely any corn. If I had to rate the bowl of ramen by itself, I'd give it 2 stars. However, later that day I had to make quite a few trips to the bathroom. I think I have a pretty strong digestive system, but not this time. Not bad, Ramen 101, not bad at all. I had the black garlic ramen and was pretty pleased. The broth was very tasty and the noodles had a bite. Unless you really LOVE garlic, I wouldn't recommend chewing on the whole garlic gloves in the soup. My only feedback is the roasted pork can use a little bit more tenderizing as it was a bit chewy. If they can have more tender pork, it would make a very solid ramen bowl. I also want to give props to service. Everyone was very friendly and very helpful especially for an order-first-seat-yourself kinda restaurant. Food came out pretty quickly also. I can tell the owner/manager runs a tight ship given that it is a fairly new restaurant. So happy a good ramen spot opened in Concord! read more

Oh no. I thought I would be on a roll picking restaurants in that area. Other restaurants with 4 stars at least, were really good. But this one by far was a mistake. Worst one of 2020. I felt like going all out. Got a chicken kaarage, vegetable tempura, 2 tonakatsu ramen and 1 vegetable ramen. The worker sounded like she wasn't happy. I started with the kaarage. Didn't look like the kaarage I am accustomed with and sure didn't taste like it. It tasted like a popcorn chicken I had at a boba store once. The sauce is fine, but not the chicken. I then tried the vegetable tempura, which tasted like Chinese take out vegetables and just breaded a little thick. By the time I got to the ramen, it just was downhill. The broth was fine and the noodles, but the meat was not marinated or cooked well. Still a bit tough and tasted like it had the plain pork flavor. At other take-out restaurants, this was not the case. I let it sit in the broth for a few minutes, but the meat didn't absorb. Parking sucks to get to the place. I was thinking of giving two stars, because they do have recyclable packaging and weren't completely bad with service. It's just the quality of the food for $52 was not worth it at all. Ramen 101 makes it seem like perfect for the restaurant. A first-year college course with people just learning how to cook the right food. I didn't finish any of it. Appetite killed. Black Garlic ramen (3/5) Thought I'd try something different and went with the black garlic instead of a traditional tonkatsu or shoyu. The flavor of the soup base is very tasty. Salty, garlicky, but lots of sesame oil. The noodles themselves are a bit thicker but taste fresh or hand made. I'd recommend soaking it in the soup base when you first combine the take out to loosen the noodles. 2 slices of pork, corn, bamboo shoots, and sprouts. Very minimal ingredients/ basic. Takoyaki (4/5) Surprisingly they travel well! Comes in 10 pieces. With the sauce and Benito flakes on top. Really tasted fresh off the grill and amazing. Placed an order for uber eats and tried this place for the first time, and the food was soooooooo delicious and amazing. The lumpia was fantastic and great. I also ordered the BBQ mix plate and the portion was huge and it fills you up with how much they give you and the last thing was the fried squid legs which was great and mix with the sauce made it a combo to die for..
