So much imitation crab in the rolls, even when some of them didn't explicitly mention it. Made the price we paid not really worth it. We tried the salmon tempura roll, mango roll, spider roll, unagi roll, a kids sushi combo, takoyaki, and a few other rolls and a couple of items on their specials menu. Besides the takoyaki, everything else was a bit disappointing. The soft shell crab didn't really have a taste other than the batter, and the mango tasted really artificial. I'm not sure what was going on there, but no one liked that roll. Even my son, who absolutely loves mango and sushi, didn't like it. My youngest son barely touched his sushi combo. The unagi roll was good, but really tiny and not too much unagi in it. I'm not sure if it was an off day, because it was one of my mom's favorite places. But even she was disappointed and said she probably won't be back. One thing I did appreciate though was how they have modified chopsticks for kids! That was a nice touch. Not much to update in terms of rating. I will say that they have updated the interior and it is cleaner, more modern take. Big ups. Menu is good, price is decent for the per sashimi price compared to other spots. Fish was fresh. Sashimi Combo was decent at $30 Beef teriyaki was like jerky in terms of slice size. So even if it's tough n overcooked, it will come out OK. Tempura was fresh n crispy...shrimp kinda tiny though. Service was just ok. No one looked at us when we were trying to get the check and a to go box. We were staring at the servers waiting for one of them to look out way. However before that they did ask if we were ok once, which is one more time than none. Sad that water had no ice. I dislike room temperature water to drink. So yah, still a good place to go for the area, better options if you're willing to go into Concord/Pleasent Hill. read more

This place has been here for a while I think. We walked in for lunch and they weren't that busy. We were asked to sit in or out and decided to sit outside as it was a nice day. The servers make you feel like they want you in and out it, don't spend time at your table. Maybe cause it was lunch. But we couldn't get a conversation in without a server asking us if we were ready to order. The menu itself is pretty large and there is a lot to choose from. Unfortunately this was a work lunch so I wasn't able to take any photos. We ordered an abundance of things, appetizers, rolls, sashimi etc. I asked for water and it comes in a plastic cup.. the sodas are in cans so no refills. My rainbow roll came out and it was a decent size. Not a lot of fish for being a rainbow roll. There was more avocado than anything. I can say that the rice was nice and soft, but didn't get any of the flavor of the fish. We also had the tuna sashimi which presented ok. I guess the server messed up and gave us an additional sashimi to make up for it. As we received our rolls and sashimi I was wondering about our appetizers we ordered... they didn't come out first. The chicken wings were good, had a nice crisp to them when you bit in to them. They didn't come with any sauce but did have good seasoning. The tempura was nice and flakey. Light like it's supposed to be. Came out with large pieces of vegetables. You should have seen the size of the onion! Overall, this is not my favorite sushi spot. It did not fill my need for Japanese food and sushi! There are other options to choose from in Martinez that have larger rolls and use fresh fish. read more

We came here during lunch hours and it was pretty crowded, so we decided to eat outside. Overall, the staff was very accommodating and still attentive to us despite being outside. They have a great menu with a wide selection of items, including udon, ramen, nigiri, hand rolls, etc. The prices are reasonable and nothing too much. This review is strictly for online take out order. Ordered the TNT roll.....oooh so good. Generous portion, perfectly flash fried. I'm not the most adventurous sushi eater but this roll was a knock out of the park in my opinion. It's a spicy tuna roll with jalapenos and avocado inside then deep fried and topped with micro fish eggs and special sauce. I will absolutely get this again. Sometimes fish eggs are a bit much for me but because this were so small, they didn't taste like anything or give any odd texture issues. My only personal downside is the ginger was smashed up against one end of the roll so in my opinion those 2 pieces tasted like spicy soap. Just moved to the area, so I've been slowly trying to explore new places and restaurants. Decided it was going to be a sushi night. We ordered takeout. Hanabi provided lots of soy sauce and utensils. We called in our order and was able to pick up in 15 mins. Our order was good for 3-4 people. It came with soup and salad which I didn't take a picture of. The sushi itself was nothing amazing. The rolls we got were basic, and they honestly didn't taste great. The California roll and rainbow roll were made with a lot of mayo. The nigiri was also not that great. I ordered immediately as I knew what I wanted. I felt kind of rushed ordering, I probably would have ordered more food if I didn't feel so rushed. Probably a good thing I didn't order more because I was so full. Bathroom had a horrible smell in there. I knew someone with super extreme health issues who had a stinky hoarder house, smelled identical. But the bathroom was actually very clean. Just had a bad smell. We got the Chubby Chubby roll since it looked filling. I was disappointed since almsot half of it was covered with spicy mayo, sweet mayo and eel sauce. This really did not make it enjoyable. I would suggest to ask for this roll without the sauces. The Over the Rainbow roll suffered from the same issue, too much spicy mayo. This sauce was easier to take off. The Washinton roll was perfect, no extra sauce and the thin lemon slices provide a nice layer of citrus. They have almost 3 pages of sushi rolls, so there's plenty of options on the menu to choose from. I would suggest looking at the simpler rolls and nigiri so that it doesn't overpower the fish taste. They leave some punny names on the menu like the Jessica "Alba"-core roll haha read more

I placed an order on DoorDash for two rolls from Hanabi Sushi. The DoorDash delivery was fine, and this review is not against the dasher or DoorDash at all. This 1 star is review is regarding the two rolls I received from Hanabi. The rolls tasted okay at best. What was not okay at all is that I found plastic wrap in both of my rolls. I was chewing on my roll pieces and was wondering why something was not breaking down. I even tried to swallow my pieces too, and almost choked. So I decided to pull out the object from my mouth and was horrified when I realized it was plastic wrap. And it wasn't just small pieces of plastic wrap, these bits that came from my mouth were LARGE. I have attached photos of what I discovered below. I am still working my way through the two rolls as I'm writing this review, but this is totally unacceptable. I'm pretty sure I swallowed plastic at this point too. I shouldn't be worried about foreign objects in my food, and I shouldn't even have to carefully inspect each piece of sushi before I eat it! This is a safety hazard!!
