Cute soy sauce and wasabi dipping dish
Aileen V.

Such a cute local sushi spot. Came here for dinner on a Sunday to celebrate my daughter's birthday. Highly recommend making reservations which we did. It got pretty busy. The sushi was good and fresh. The crunchy taco sushi's were really good. I liked the crunchiness of the seaweed. We got our food pretty fast except they forgot two of our orders but once we told them we got it pretty fast. Desserts were ok. Something to try at least once. Perks: for every $100 you spend you get to pick jewelry from a shelf they have which includes necklaces, bracelets and rings. Also they have a stamp card for every sushi roll you order. Lots of parking. Would highly recommend trying this restaurant!

Looking for a quick bite, we stopped by Shin Sushi, tucked inside a strip mall near DVC. The inside is cute, and it seems pretty new to the neighborhood. Our waitress was friendly, which made the experience pleasant right away. We went straight for the lunch menu and ordered a roll along with some sake. The food came out quickly, which was perfect since we were just looking for something fast. Overall, I'd say the meal was mid not amazing, but it definitely satisfied my hunger and did the job.

I've been to Shin Sushi twice now and would gladly go back. One small but thoughtful touch: they sell their own house soju sauce, and there's a cup of ginger on the table so you can take as much -- or as little as you want. It's a simple detail, but it prevents waste and lets you control your plate instead of automatically getting a pile you didn't ask for. Overall, the sushi was very good. My personal benchmark for "amazing" sushi is when I take a bite and think, "This is the best ___ I've ever had." Shin had one or two pieces that hit that level, and everything else was solidly good across the board. The texture was right, the fish was clean, and the execution was consistent. I ordered the Shin Moriawase (12 pieces of assorted sashimi and 6 pieces of chef-selected nigiri for $55.95). Comparable sushi in San Francisco or other major cities would easily run 50% more. Strong quality, fair pricing, and thoughtful touches. A very solid Pleasant Hill option.

Valentine's Dinner for 3 was well-received and we enjoyed our meal very much. I would come back when in the area. Food: Great quality sushi with the Moriawase, cut rolls and hand rolls. Pricing was ~$58/person inc. 20% for great service. Good price overall. We indulged and felt very full. Service: very attentive, polite, pleasant. The food came out fast, in fact our meal took only 45-mins. Worth mentioning: 1) wasabi was tasteless as was the soy sauce which was not salty at all. 2) Ginger was excellent! Served in a separate container, it was the best ever. 3) Yakitori dinner was just ok. I'd come back for the sushi and service... and ginger!

Stopped by today for lunch with my daughter after school (DVC) and holy moly we are so happy to have stumbled upon this restaurant. When we walked in, we were blown away with how clean and stylish the place was. The cat theme was absolutely precious! The service was 5/5 and the food was triple that. I had the shin roll which hands down is my new favorite roll, so I have to come back here forever to fulfill that craving. My daughter got the chicken katsu lunch bento and it was cooked to perfection and came with a scoop of matcha ice cream at the end, which was a happy way to end the meal. I can't wait to bring my entire family here to enjoy this place! Everything about it is a 5/5! Oh and the music is soooo good too!

Love going to this place! Sushi is always quality and there hasn't been anything we've ordered that we were disappointed with. there aren't many tables, but I haven't seen people having to wait too long when all tables are filled (probably because this place isn't too well-known yet). Still, always very clean and such cute decor. The owner is always so nice to us when we come. We have a daughter and when we go there she knows to ask for coloring pages that the restaurant provides. My favorite is the salmon nigiri (basic, I know) but the salmon is always SO buttery--it's almost ruined every other salmon nigiri I get anywhere else. Will always come back as food and service is always top notch!

Really impressed by the quality here. They don't use lower grade frozen tuna or salmon, and you can taste the difference. They even use bluefin tuna in their rolls, and the nori crunch is out of this world!! The owner is incredibly sweet and takes pride in what she serves. She uses two grades of salmon, top grade for sushi and second grade for kitchen items only. The salmon was super fresh and flavorful. All of their fish comes in whole with head and bones and is prepped in house, which says a lot about the care and freshness.

I'm always craving sushi but I'm extremely picky. They don't offer real crab (unless you get a soft shell crab roll) but other than that, the food was great & customer service was delightful. Thanks Amy!!

Shin Sushi is a great little neighborhood sushi spot in Pleasant Hill. The vibe is fun and welcoming and they even play custom Shin Sushi music in the background. The food was excellent. The fish was fresh and absolutely delicious. I ordered the Shin Moriawase (12 pieces of assorted sashimi and 6 pieces of chef-selected nigiri), and it did not disappoint. My 2 young kids had a great meal too. The service was friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience enjoyable. I loved all the cat decor (to include the little cat dishes to put your soy sauce!).

Finally a good sushi on a budget place! The specialty rolls are $15 and very filling This place is the only place I know that has these Nori crunch rolls and they were easily my favorite items that I got. Fish here tasted fresh and everything was so good! For the price, tasted and time of service everything was top notch. Definitely coming back

Was staying in the area for a wedding the next day and was craving sushi. Shin came among the top places nearby and I am so glad I selected them. The waitress very friendly and attentive and the quality of the food was excellent. Not the best sushi I have ever had, but certainly comparable to spots I frequent in the LA area. The space itself is modern and nicely decorated. The food came out promptly and I thoroughly enjoyed everything I had. Would definitely come back again.

Finally came to try their nori handrolls! My absolute faav was the salmon cloud and hotate blaze! Hamachi carpaccio was delicious!! S/o to the chef for putting my on that salmon cloud! Much appreciated!

There's no other place in the East Bay that beats the prices of this place! Portions are decent and rolls are well-sized. Fish was also very fresh and they have great happy hour deals. Taste wise, their food is decent. I feel like the east bay doesn't really have any sushi places that particularly blow me away, but Shin Sushi is on the higher tier of the pack. PS this place is also women-owned! I saw their owner around working and she was really sweet.

The staff were all nice, super attentive. The restaurant was extremely clean! The moment I sat down I was greeted by my waitress which I loved! Now let's get to the food! I ordered a shrimp tempura roll for my appetizer and the chicken teriyaki as my main entree, and a lemonade for my beverage. Everything was a 10/10! I got full off my appetizer so I ended up eating a few bites of my entree and taking the rest home. All that food for literally that amazing price! I see why they were packed! I had this placed saved in my bookmarks and I will most definitely be back! I think I found a new favorite!

The portion size you get with the meal was a lot of food the dinner meal was $18.00 but if you go for lunch that same meal is only $14.00 which is an amazing deal. We got there about 5:30 and it was already getting pretty busy. I put our names in and the wait was about 20 mins so not bad at all. The absolutely only downside we had about this place was the noise level, it's got an open concept which looks really cool but it does make the noise level a lot louder. We will totally be going back to this place the food was great the pires are amazing and the quality and amount of food you get was really good.

We planned ahead and made a reservation since we had a large group, and our table was already ready when we arrived, which I really appreciated. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. You can truly feel the family-oriented vibes--they took the time to get to know us and checked in throughout the dinner without being overbearing. The menu has so many good options that it was hard to choose, so I went with a 3-item bento box. I ordered the salmon teriyaki, mixed sashimi, and mixed tempura. The bento also came with miso soup, salad, and a side of rice. The portions were HUGE--I had enough leftovers for lunch the next day (not complaining at all!). The fish was fresh, the salmon teriyaki was flavorful, and the tempura was perfectly crispy and delicious. Overall, amazing food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere. I'll definitely be back!

They treat everyone who walks through that door like family and the service is extremely friendly. They are also very family oriented. They were always chatting with our kiddos and other kiddos at other tables. The amount of food they give you is crazy. The rolls were humongous! We were too hungry and I forgot to snap a photo, but they were HUGE. Our 2 item bento boxes were also XL. There was so much food! It was actually a little overwhelming. 1 piece of sashimi is actually 2 or 3 (they slice it really thick---which I'm actually not a fan of). The tempura was delicious. They were big pieces and I felt like they were prepared and fried well. Not overly greasy and the batter was nice. The fish seemed fresh, but I really don't care for thick slices of sashimi. Overall, everything was good, but the fish threw me off. I feel like you lack finesse when you do thick pieces of fish. The rolls also had so much rice. If you value quantity over quality, definitely recommend. If you value quality over quantity, I'd maybe skip.

We'd always only gone for their lunch menu before, but we were really craving sushi and sashimi last night, so we thought Fuji would be the best place to go since we were starving!! We noticed that the dinner menu wasn't that much different from the lunch. Seems like only a handful of items are added, so we still made sure to try some of those dinner-only items. One was the Deep Fried Soft Shell Crab, and it was absolutely delicious! The whole thing was edible, so there was no need to de-shell the crab, and the tempura batter was nice and crispy. The crab also didn't taste fishy at all. I also liked that they served it with a tempura dipping sauce on the side because it helped refresh the dish and cut back on the greasiness a little bit. Another thing I was really super curious to try was the Smoked Salmon. I did order it, but I think the guy working at the sashimi section misheard me and ended up giving me regular salmon instead - boo! I wanted to go back and order more later, but by that point I was already really full, so I decided not to be greedy. Other than that, everything else was pretty much the same as the lunch offerings. In general, my brother and I really like this place. It's definitely our go-to spot when it comes to all you can eat sushi and sashimi. My brother and I love getting a huge plate of sashimi with a variety of fish like Salmon, Yellowtail, Mackerel, and even Unagi too. I also love how quick the service was, and they impose no limitation on how many times we can order or how many items we can get each round. We just feel really comfortable eating here. We'll definitely come back again in the near future!

Honestly this is best ayce sushi I've been too and find myself coming back often! I love sushi and…read morehave been to a number of other ayce sushi places and tbh, none of them compare to Fuji when it comes to both price, quality, and consistency. For the price, it's very affordable as you pay a flat price and can order everything off the menu. There's no extra charge for sashimi either which I found that all other ayce sushi places do and even with the extra charge for sashimi at other places, their sashimi is often small and the quality is low or just poorly prepared. At Fuji, the sashimi is always consistent and they provide great cuts and variety of sashimi like salmon, eel, tuna, mackerel, and more. I love that it's already included as part of the price and there's no hidden or extra fees. The rolls taste great as well! You can easily grab the rolls from the shelf where they put the freshly made rolls or if you don't see the rolls you want, you can ask the sushi chefs to make them. Personally, I find it more worth it to ask the sushi chefs for sashimi, hand rolls, and the aburi (seared) salmon which is my personal favorite here lol. For the appetizers, you need to order with the waiters but luckily they're very quick and attentive! The fried oyster is really good. The space itself is pretty large and you'll either be seated at a table or at the bar but if you're able to choose, definitely go with the bar! The bar includes the rotating conveyor belt which often has salmon nigiri and other small dishes which makes it more convenient to sit there. This review has been long overdue tbh but I've been here enough times and the quality, consistency, variety, and price is what makes me keep coming back!
