Amazing food, service and decor. We came right as they opened (11:30) and within probably 20 minutes, almost their whole restaurant was full! If you don't know by now, they have really delicious bento boxes prepared with samplers from 9 of their appetizers/daily specials. They only have a limited # so be sure to call ahead and reserve the boxes if that's what you're going for! We ended up getting one, and then sharing some appetizers. Most notable favourites goes to the otoro aburi, milk silky mentaiko udon and the yuzu parfait. The flavour combinations in each of the three dishes paired perfectly with the specified protein (and yuzu) and each ingredient just really highlighted and complimented the dish so well. My personal favourite was the yuzu parfait as the yuzu flavor was prominent but not overwhelming; it left a nice refreshing taste in that lingered your mouth after each bite! As for our least favourites, we found the hell chicken karaage could use a little more heat, and the batter could use a bit more umph, as the sauce may have compromised the crunchiness a bit. The spicy lobster udon was interesting however we found the broth was overwhelming in richness with not much lobster flavour to show. For dessert we got the grapefruit crepe brûlée which was just a regular creme brûlée with grapefruit pieces in it, not what I expected especially since the dessert was topped with other/additional fruits. We definitely expected the grapefruit to be incorporated into the custard, and were a little disappointed with this one. Overall, it was a worthwhile experience as I was able to bring some new comers to sample the menu- just make sure you either have reservations, or you go early enough to beat the rush! As for parking, there is street parking throughout and a nice benefit is the side streets provide cheaper parking ($1/h) compared to the Main Street ($2/h). Despite several of the dishes underperforming, the dishes that were good were SO good and the service was so lovely, it really did not affect our overall experience that much. Ps. Idk how I forgot about this but the otoro blue fin tuna is HEAVENLY. We got one order to share between 6ppl so we each get a couple bites and OH man, the minute you bite into the tuna you just get a nice wash of flavour that engulfs your mouth. While the price may seem intimidating, you def get your moneys worth with this portion. An absolute masterpiece. read more

Actually in love with this place. A bit pricey but the food and ambience are amazing. I wish the drinks were stronger but this seems to be a Canadian thing with these 1oz small pours. This is very similar to the old Seattle Suika (for my 206 peeps) but with a lesser drinking experience. We got the pork cheek, uni shooters, tako wasabi all of which were amazing and I would order again when I visit soon. Then we ordered the otoro bowl. Hoooooooolllllllyyyyyyy shiiiiiiiiiiiiz. This thing is bussin. The otoro was sooooo fatty. Almost too much otoro for one person in one seating ...... Almost lol. A sad moment of silence for the old Seattle Suika but glad there is Raisu in Vancouver. read more

After hearing a lot of buzz about this restaurant, we popped down to finally try it out for a friend's birthday! Immediately, I loved the decor an vibe of the restaurant. I would like to preface this by saying that I had to give the restaurant 3 stars - not because of the food, but because of the service. For starters, we had the garlic edamame which was very fragrant. Edamame was cooked more on the softer side, making it easy to eat. We also got a pitcher of their plum wine sangria ($34), which was super delicious! The carbonated soda gave the drink a refreshing kick, while the wine made it taste sweet. For entrees, my friend and I shared the snow crab and uni udon ($27) and Seafood Bara Chirashi Don ($28). The portion for the udon was MUCH smaller than we expected -- we basically each got a couple strands and that was it. However, it was quite flavourful with the uni cream and in comparison, there was a decent amount of snow crab. I don't think that we could justify reordering this dish again though. The seafood chirashi don was better in terms of quantity and portion. The Miso soup was well flavoured but not overly salty, with large pieces of carrot/daikon and seaweed within. The top was filled with bits of sashimi, including smoked salmon, snow crab, ikura (small and large), and tuna. There were also cubes of sweet tamago. The rice was mixed in with vinegar and was made to be eaten in conjunction with the sashimi. I would highly recommend to pour the soy sauce onto the rice, as it made it just that much more flavourful. There were also some pickled vegetable inside, which was refreshing between bites of sashimi. Now to the part which was disappointing for us...the service. Quite frankly, none of us ever really care that much about service all that much, but she literally did the bare minimum (if not even less). Our server was rude to us from the get-go; when 2 of our friends initially ordered drinks, we could sense the attitude that she gave out as if she did not even want us to order. It took a while for us to then be able to flag her down again for drinks and food when the rest of our party came, and she (once again) showed attitude as we ordered and did not show to be accommodating at all. One person in our party had needed an adjustment to her meal and the waiter had stared blankly at her for awhile before finally agreeing. She checked in once or twice throughout the night but did not help to refill the water, nor was she available for us when we needed extra utensils (i.e., bowls and napkins). As we were about to pay and leave, we had asked for our bills to be split and one of them were split incorrectly. We asked for it to be changed, to which she just glared at us and pretended like she didn't understand what we were asking for. Frustrated, we decided to just pay and leave. From this experience alone, I'm unsure whether I would want to return. Portions were quite small, as well as the sub-par service made me think that there are other restaurants in the area that are better. read more

I got 3 dishes to try at Raisu, Spicy lobster and Uni Cream Udon, 3 kinds sashimi platter and omakase aburi sushi. The lobster udon was so unique and delicious! The grilled lobster tail was SO fresh and tender. The udon texture was light and bouncy. The uni cream soup was really flavourful and stuck onto the udon noodles very well, really yummy! 9/10 3 kinds sashimi platter - Really fresh and THICCC cuts of fish! 8/10 Their omakase aburi sushi (8 pcs) wasn't as good as the other dishes. It was too thick and had a lot of rice. 6/10 Raisu is super super super popular so I highly suggest making a reso a couple weeks in advance! When I left the restaurant, there were like 15 parties waiting for a seat read more

definitely recommend this place! came here on a quick trip from the states and it was such a worth it stop. we were sat on the balcony which looked beautiful in the afternoon light. the fish tasted fresh and came in decently-sized portions. super tasty. several of us had ordered chiraishi bowls and after we were done, they offered to fry the prawn/shrimp shells for us after as an additional snack. service was equally as wonderful. our waiter was so very attentive to our needs. such a fun, laid-back, and enjoyable time. definitely would come again :)) read more

Recently visited Raisu again for their seasonal menu and love how they are consistently offering delicious dishes!! Currently they have the Kobe Wagyu Zanmai. This is absolutely the best way to enjoy wagyu beef! Raisu creatively puts together a seasonal wagyu beef multi course meal. Every single dish was melt in your mouth wagyu fatty goodness! Starting with Wagyu & Crab Tartar - they wagyu tartar was sooo tender my husband thought it was tuna! There were some playful dishes that makes the dining experience fun and hands on as well like the Wagyu Yakiniku that you grill on a mini hot stone and Wagyu & Scallop Temaki Sushi that you roll yourself. For a dinner of two you get to choose a main amongst the list of three dishes and we chose the Wagyu & Bluefin Toro Chirashi Bowl! Fatty tuna and fatty beef - BEST THING EVER! The dinner also includes sake (or a choice of selected non alcoholic drinks) and Chef's choice dessert! If you feel like spoiling someone this is definitely the way to go! read more

Horrible service. I have gone to raisu plenty of times. I think raisu and its other restaurant group is one of the only authentic japanese restaurants in vancouver. If you are looking for authentic japanese restaurants in Vancouver, raisu is one of them. Overall, I love raisu and I would come back again to try its other menu more and its comfort and authentic japanese food! Recommended by a friend. The name of the restaurant was funny, it's known as rice and the icon of the restaurant was a rice cooker. I was greeted warmly by a waitress at the entrance and seated me at a bar. I ordered a Deluxe Seafood Bowl and a Sho Ka Do Bento. The seafood was very fresh. I especially love their rice. They used a special type of rice called koshihikari rice. It was so good!!!! They also have beers made from koshihikari rice. I really hope that they could open a branch in Torinto. read more

Best way to describe this place is... looks pretty but has no substance. Really wanted to like this place, and there are moments when it shined a little... however, overall - especially for the price point - it was ok. Lobster udon (3.5) - a lighter / Japanese version of the French lobster bisque. I felt it lacked a bit of flavor, but at the same time, it might be designed to be lighter so it doesn't overpower the other dishes. Deluxe seafood bowl (3.5) - this was nice, but nothing special. Quite filling - just sashimi on sushi rice. To be honest, adding the sauce from the lobster udon made this pretty delicious. Otoro sashime (2/5) - hoping to get the melt in your mouth quality; however, this was nowhere near that. In fact, I actually just didn't enjoy it... the quality felt subpar and the flavor + texture didn't meet expectations. Aburi Omakase set (1/5) - this was just bad... lol enough said. read more

Absolutely incredible food, easy 5/5. The mackerel was flavourful and rich served with small accompaniments and rice to make a perfect comforting and classic meal. The aburi sushi was also delicious with unique flavour combinations and allows you to try 4 different types of sushi. I only wish that we had called in ahead of time to have the bento box which includes 9 different dishes. That will definitely be ordered next time along with the chirashi. Service was attentive and ambiance is classic bustling izakaya. Wonderful meal and made me feel like I has briefly traveled to Japan! read more

I ordered the deluxe seafood bowl for takeout and thought it was mediocre at best. The uni was the best item in the bowl, followed by the ikura & scallop. The salmon lacked flavor and the sockeye salmon did not taste fresh (I discarded one of the 2 pieces). The amaebi wasn't sweet, and the scallop was just okay. The sushi rice underneath was the most disappointing part - the rice was clumpy and the sushi rice was not seasoned evenly. Overall, I would only consider ordering the uni from this restaurant. read more

Food: 3/3 Service: 0.5/1 Atmosphere: 0/1 Let me be the first to say that I think the food here is phenomenal. There's a lot of variety, the dishes are beautifully presented, and each item had its own unique and delicious flavour. When it comes to the food, I definitely enjoyed my meal immensely. HOWEVER, I don't think I will be coming back. Why? Because the place is dirty even though it doesn't look like it at first glance. My family and I were seated out on the deck where they have blankets covering the tables. First thing I noticed is that there were dried food stains on the blanket. First red flag - they don't seem to wash or switch out the blankets that would absorb any food or drink spilled onto them. Second - the whole table is sticky. I tried wiping it a bit myself with some water and my napkin and the napkin started ripping and bits *stuck to the table*. We let the waitress know and even after a quick wipe-down it was *still sticky*. Ew! Third, there is trash like half-eaten bits of food strewn about the seating area that wasn't cleaned up. I think the food is top-notch, but being someone who is very particular about cleanliness, I felt straight up uncomfortable about my surroundings the whole time I was there. Sorry Raisu, but I don't think I'll be coming back. If the staff can't be bothered to wipe down sticky tables or wash items that could harbour bacteria, I legitimately worry about the hygiene standards in the kitchen... read more

Overall a very good experience. The restaurant complied with social distancing measures well. You can use a QR code to look at the menu on offer. They have a lunch deal for $25ish. We chose the sashimi option (salmon, tuna and a mollusk of some kind with a bit of Ikura topped). I was a bit disappointed in the selection of fish and was hoping at least something other than salmon and tuna. We chose the fried items and that day it was a Hamburg steak and scallop stuffed with crab meat in a katsu type breading. This was very good. The set case with a a mushroom kelp miso, bowl of rice and some side dishes. The snow crab ikura hitsumabushi was fantastic and super tasty, clean tasting but also pricey at $24. There were just a couple spoonfuls of shredded crab. Their washrooms, for females anyways are super attentive to detail. There's floss and mouthwash for use. I think the floss are individually wrapped, can't remember the mouthwash. You can't really go wrong with eating at Raisu. Most things are tasty if not for sure interesting or passable. We always take guests out to one of the restaurants by the Kingyo group when they are in town and they always love it. read more

I ordered the Cloudy Orange . Doesn't the name and drink sound so cute! It's a cocktail made up of orange juice (duh!), gin, Calpico, 7up, orange and fruit sauce. My sister got the Raisu Punch (non-alcoholic since she had to drive) which is made up of Calpico, Kiwi, Pineapple, and Aloe JuiceDefinitely recommend this for those who don't drink alcohol cause this was goooooood (Ps. Calpico is a type of Japanese yogurt drink). Next, we ordered the Omasake Aburi Sushi This was recommended by our server so we didn't even think twice and just ordered it. Description for this was "Daily chef's choice seared sushi with original toppings" which didn't really tell us much except it's good and a surprise! It was absolutely worth every bite still not entirely sure what's all there except that it's seared salmon but doesn't matter - it tasted friggin' awesome Next, we got the Sizzling Stone Beef Steak Hitsumabushi. Just from the name, it sounds fancy right? Cause it sure was There are two parts to eating this: first is to eat as is; mix it all up and enjoy the hot food next, as you eat about half, you add in the dashi stock and mix it all up again and enjoy in the stone bowl, it was garlic fried rice at the bottom, Canadian AAA steak, shredded nori, bonito flakes, some greens, fried garlic and these...long...fish-looking things with eyes we both decided to pretend it doesn't exist and just enjoy the food to the fullest (which we did) Last but not least...Real Crab and Uni Cream Udon first thing we noticed was the GIGANTIC bowl it came in (my pictures doesn't show but the reel I'll post later will) This dish was fuuuuull of flavour; definitely the fanciest udon bowl I've had! crab + uni + sea urchin cream soup + Japanese Sanuki udon noodles = Now, on top of the amazing meal, gotta give a shout-out to the staff cause they were all super duper friendly and made our experience top notch Definitely recommend checking out Raisu in Vancouver read more

We actually came here on our anniversary. We wanted to try something a little bit different but not crazy expensive. A friend recommended this place, so we gave it a shot, and the experience we had was exactly that. If you are looking for Japanese food, you can tell things are legit here. The waitresses and chefs are all Japanese (or so they seem) people here are polite yet loud, like most izakayas. Even though it was a Thursday, we weren't able to make a reservation on the day of. So we tried our luck and just walked in. Fortunately, someone canceled just minutes before we got there, so we were able to grab the two counter seats. The waitress at the bar area was friendly, knowing we are not Japanese, and it's our first time here, she recommended a few items that were good for sharing. We ordered 3 of the popular items, OMAKASE ABURI SUSHI DELUXE SEAFOOD BOWL SNOW CRAB AND UNI CREAM UDON As expected of an authentic Japanese place, the presentation was superb. We were going to order sake which would have been amazing with all the seafood, but since we had to drive home after, we finished the meal with just water. The quality of each item was nice and the pieces were generous in size. I was never a big fan of uni, but this experience here was... pleasant. . You can tell everything was fresh. (unfresh sea urchins can actually be a traumatic experience) The cream in the Uni cream udon was nice, but the snow crab was more of a gimmick. There was barely a teaspoon full of snow crab. Our favorite was probably the Omakase aburi sushi. Although each piece was mostly the same, with only the difference in tiny garnishes on top, the flamed seared warm sush had good flavoring and texture. The portions of each dish were quite good. If you plan to spend around $100 here for 2 people, you'll leave this place rather satisfied. Food 8.5 Service 8 Ambiance 9 Value 8 read more

Very fresh food and good service at Raisu. I also really enjoyed their outdoor seating

Service: 4.4/5 Raisu has extremely enthusiastic staff and a friendly demeanor. Everyone was extremely attentive provided excellent service. Due to its popularity, they are extremely busy and would highly recommend calling in to make a reservation 1-2 days prior. The food did take a while to be made/served due to consistant high volumes of orders, but this just justifies it's popularity. Food: 4.6/5 The food quality was amazing. The bluefin is extremely fatty and carries a good umami. The other seafood (scallop, spot prawn, uni, and snow crab) were great additions and tasted great. They serve a good wasabi and soy sauce to compliment as well. Overall the menu seemed delicious and I can't wait to come back and try the other dishes. Overall 4.5/5 read more

I've been to Raisu twice when I was visiting Vancouver and both times did not disappoint. They have some of the prettiest plating that I've seen. It's definitely photo worthy especially their Shokado bento and their Deluxe Seafood bowl will have you ooooing and awwwing when they bring it to your table. The shokado bento box are a limited order they have per day so claim them quickly while you can because when all 12 or so are out, they are out. I also really enjoyed their uni and scallops. Solid. It was very fresh. Chicken wings were nothing wow. Cooked well but not worth getting unless you're just really in the mood for some fried chicken. Also, liked how they had some kids menu bento options. Service is pretty good here. They have one private room and both inside and outdoor covered seating. The decor is simple yet nice. It's pricy but for the experience it's worth experiencing atleast once. They have some of the cutest business cards as well for this establishment along with their sister restaurant in the city. read more

Raisu left me wanting to go back to Japan. The staff was incredible, after being late for our reservation, the hostess was very understanding and held our reservation despite being busy that evening. We ordered the uni shooter, aburi omakase, Brussel sprouts, and toro set. Way too much food but crushed everything because of how good it was. The uni shooter was amazing and a must try, lots of umami flavours in such a small shooter class. We probably could have gone without the aburi omakase, as this was our least favourite of everything we ordered. The toro set is a must get, the amount of otoro that you get and rice was perfect for two people to share. The rice was really good and topped off with even better fatty tuna. You also get uni and spot prawns with it. If I could give raisu more stars, I would. The best part of this all, raisu was reasonably priced too! Bad service and ok food quality, too pricy!! We were there for the food and to celebrate my brother's birthday. The waitress taking the order was not patient when we ask few more questions. Food quality was good, but portion was small. When we were offer to have a house dessert for my brother, we decided not to have other desserts, the waitress wasn't happy about it. They gathered our table to sign happy birthday song, I video that happy moment. Later I notice that waitress has her face covered the whole time. Why so? If you don't want to be video, you should say so or shouldn't work in this restaurant because these birthday celebrations is part of the deal the restaurant offer to their guests. Later when the bill came, I don't want to pay them the full default amount of at least 15%, the "other" option wasn't working either so I ask the waitress to figure out for me. She took the machine over and chose the default amount of 15% for me. I don't want to make a big scene so just unwillingly make the payment and left the restaurant. I will not recommend this place to any one read more

If you're around the area, you have to give Raisu a try! Be sure to make a reservation beforehand. I didn't think I would need to since I was planning to come 15 mins after they open at 11:45am but I'm glad I did because I was able to sit outside on their deck. Looks like they reserve all the outdoor seating for people who reserve ahead of time. They have heat lamps outside to keep you nice and toasty. The indoor seating areas looked cozy as well but a bit more dim in terms of lighting. The deck was perfect, bright with natural lighting, a view of the street below and even had some Halloween decor. Alright onto the food. Everything was delicious! We ordered the Deluxe Sushi Bowl and Sho Ka Do Bento since we were here for lunch to celebrate our anniversary. Highly recommend trying either or both dishes! They only serve a limited amount of Sho Ka Do Bento a day so reserve 24hrs in advance if you can. We didn't but luckily was still able to order one. It was a tasting of 9 different dishes made from seasonal ingredients including snow crab, pork, beef, chicken, shrimp, salmon, and scallop. The server kindly explains what each dish is before you dig in. Loved every single one, even the fried brussel sprouts were so crispy and flavorful and I normally don't like brussel sprouts. Also comes with a bowl of rice and miso soup. The Deluxe Sushi Bowl tastes just as good as it looks. Each bowl comes with 10 pieces of Otoro Blue Fin Tuna, sizable chunk of crab meat, 2 pieces of scallop, 1 spot prawn, a piece of tamago, uni, some yuzu fish eggs, and ikura. The otoro was rich and just melts in the your mouth. It was my first time having spot prawn and I was surprised by how creamy it was. The scallop tasted quite fresh. The tamago was flavorful and smooth. Pairing each bite with the seemingly fresh wasabi and roe was perfect. The sushi bowl also comes with a generous amount of rice (seemed to be much more than the bento) and a bowl of miso soup. Everything from the service to the outdoor deck and the food were all amazing! I can't wait to come back and try other dishes. read more

Delicious and super fresh Japanese food with amazing presentation, but it is on the pricey side. I came with two other friends for dinner on Sunday. They take reservations as well as walk ins. However, when I called a day earlier to make a reservation, their reserved seats were all booked. I mentioned that I wanted to order the Vegan Bento, which needs to be pre-ordered at least 24 hours in advance according to their website, and the lady kindly let me reserve 3 seats at the counter. We arrived promptly at our reservation time of 6:30 and were seated immediately. It was hard to decide what to order, since everything on the menu (and I mean everything) looked so good. One friend was already getting the Vegan Bento ($26), but my other friend and I decided to share a couple dishes. We ordered: Yuzu chicken wings ($10): the chicken wings were cooked perfectly with the sweet marinade and a hint of yuzu. I'm not sure how they were cooked but it didn't taste deep fried, so maybe grilled? Sho ka do bento ($32): this is limited to 15 servings per meal. We ordered just in time to snatch the very last one. It comes with a miso soup and bowl of rice on the side as well. They probably switch out the dishes depending on seasonal ingredients, but it's a well balanced meal with salad, sushi, seafood, and meat dishes as well as dessert. I would highly recommend if you're lucky enough to snatch one. Deluxe seafood bowl ($36): all the fish was super fresh, and even though I'm not a big fan of tuna, the tuna sashimi here was some of the best I've had in years. My favorite might by the scallops as they just melted in my moth. The bowl is a bit hard to eat initially, but they leave some room in the back for you to start digging into the rice. Service was great here. We were able to flag down someone easily whenever we needed something, and they also checked in on us after we received the food to make sure everything was okay. I will be back to try the other menu items! read more

During the COVID, I have visited my friend who lived on West Broadway, which is 10 mins away from Raisu Sushi restaurant. Since I haven't tried new restaurant for long time, we decided to give Raisu a try. Since it's around the lunch time, we made the reservation for 1 pm. The prices of the food is a little bit expensive, We didn't order much. I had $16 Vegetarian Udon, which made by Sanuki Udon noodles cooked to perfection in soul-warming bowl of house made vegetable soup. My friend has Delux wagyu-nabeyaki udon is Kobe beef, tiger prawn tempura, soft boiled egg, mushroom, with sanuki udon in Raisu origial broth. It's $24. Also, we had $15 Jumbo EBI Mayo Jumbo prawn tempura with Chili mayo - a classic crowd pleaser to share. All the food are very tasty and fresh. We love it. The biggest issue with this place is very small portion food. My vegetable bowl looks huge, but mostly is empty. I have read reviews about this place. People mostly ordered sushi and sashimi. I guess that's reason why everything there is very expensive. We would like to have a try on their seafood next time. Hopefully, we will have different experience. read more

Raisu has been on my to go list for so long and finally I get to try them! Ordered a bunch of their signature dishes: omakase Aburi sushi-9/10 My favourite item here. There are four kinds of chef choice fish, I can taste the hamachi, Unagi and salmon. Not sure what the other one is. But all of them are sooo good. The proportion of rice amount and fish thickness was just right. Also their aburi sauce is at the just right amount and goes so well with each fish. Also they are firmly pressed and slightly larger than regular aburi sushi sizes. LOVE IT Deluxe Chirashi bowl-7/10 I give all the mark to their sashimi toppings. They have unimy favourite! There is a variety of thick-sliced sashimi and nice presentation. HOWEVER, I would appreciate if the sushi rice can have some flavour. Soy sauce and wasabi is not enough. Rice vinegar perhaps? Sashimi platter- 9/10 I ordered them separately. They are NOT chef's choice platter. Fresh and tasty. Fatty spot prawn and hotate. I also love the texture of sockeye salmon, kind of in between regular pink salmon and tuna. Steak Salad-5/10 I would not recommend order this salad, the dressing of salad is a question mark... I can taste anything, nothing citrus or vinegary or mayo.... Sous vide steak is a mistake, not juicy at all Takowasabi- 6/10 basic Japanese appetizer but the octopus inside is not fresh... read more

Was craving Japanese food on our recent trip to Vancouver, and Raisu did not disappoint :) I ordered a Deluxe Seafood Bowl, and my boyfriend got a Uni Donabe Takikomi Rice at the server's suggestion. We absolutely loved the seafood bowl - it was teeming with fresh sashimi with well-seasoned and textured rice. The Uni Donabe I would say is more of an acquired taste. While my BF enjoys it raw, something about cooking it in a claypot increased the fishiness? Not bad, but we personally wouldn't get that particular dish again. We went on a weekday around 1:45 PM, and thank goodness we made a reservation. Like the other reviews here point out, Raisu does have a healthy flow of customers esp w/ social distancing in mind. People who came in without a reservation were quoted a 30-45 minute wait. That being said, service was friendly and efficient, and I'll definitely be back in the future. read more
