Firs timer: Brunch Ambience was great!! Really felt like i was away in a log cabin. Good low background music. Service: waiter was good and readily available when needed Drinks:$2 mimosa are really good and fresh Food: ordered short rib Benedict. Extremely cold. I had to send back to reheat. Portion was smaller than other short rib Benedict i have had at other brunch places. The flavor was bland. Very dissatisfied since the price tag is $23. Family ordered chicken fried deer, pan seared trout, and shrimp n oyster sandwich. Everyone ate without compliant but were not overly impressed with the food read more

Was treated to a dining experience by company I work at and had a really great time. We has a party of about 60 people and they were able to accommodate us all if a bit cramped but it was all good. The rest of the restaurant seemed to be very full and if I were one of the other clients, I'd be annoyed by how loud and chatty our large party was. So, if you reserve a date night here be aware that it can get noisy if there are other large parties booked! I would say this is a very social spot for loud groups. I wouldn't take more than 4 people if you looking to stay on a budget it is very pricey here!! Depending on season they have special dinner menus and staff very friendly, remind me of hotel concierge taking your coats for you. They give you a ticket for your coat and you pull up to the front so they can park your car~~ very fancy! The entrance to get in is a pain in the butt and roads in area are in need of fixing. Potholes, large cracks and piled up tar that form a sharp speed bump. In any case once seated at your table they pour you wine, water and ask if you need any other type of drink like soda. They started us off with gumbo and a pear salad and my main entree was a halibut with rice and for dessert a creme brûlée topped with a blackberry(not the phone). Everything was delicious and even I'm not a fan of salads but enjoyed the pear salad :3 the halibut.. I don't like fish, but they strongly recommended it and was peer pressured to order and I do not regret it! I never liked fish so much as I did that night haha. The rice was a bit mushy for me but overall liked the dish. They serve a lot of gamey meat.. Like venison, elk, antelope, boar, duck, oxen, and fancier fish like lobster, halibut and rainbow trout. I got to try some roasted pheasant and some ox which was not bad but didn't like the sauce..? Couldn't quite tell since I only had one bite. My tip is to make sure you have lots of money's to splurge and dress up on your visits. read more

Went here for a business lunch and had the lobster roll. I was impressed, it was not overdressed and there was a good amount of meat. Also, I was having a terrible day, and Daniel, our server, was awesome. Got me out of my rut via his attentive service and jovial nature. read more

I went here for my anniversary and sad to say was very underwhelmed after multiple times coming before and being satisfied. I am not sure if management has changed but this place has really taken a dive. Service was very slow from the start (on a Wednesday night) and our waiter forgot we had not ordered yet. I ordered the Wild Game Grill with Venison, Elk, Bison, and Quail and my wife ordered the Lobster Risotto. My food came out at room temperature which was very unappealing. We had already been there for an hour and fifteen minutes when we received our entrees so I was just ready to eat and head home at this point so I did not send it back. I think if I had wanted to send it back it took 10 minutes before our waiter came back to see how it was and we were basically done at this point. No one was particularly friendly. Very disappointing and I don't think we will be back. read more

I went to celebrate my new job. At first I thought this place is for old people and want impressed. The device is dated and dark. Then I was sat in the back with a window showing the bayou. It was lovely. The service was good and the food was decent. Lunch they have a nice special. You should try it. read more

I missed this place during restaurant weeks, but decided to check it out last night. Overall the atmosphere is nice and there are nice views. But I have to say I was not overly impressed with the food. Everything was fine, but nothing blew my socks off. The quail and grits appetizer was a little bland and my trout dish was super oily. Understandably the fish was oily, but the sweet potatoes and kale were also just soaked. We tried the bread pudding for desert and it had a good flavor, but again pretty generic. I still think this place is worth checking out, because the menu has some pretty interesting options. read more

Went to the Sip and Stroll last night and dranks some nice wine. Thought it was really a good deal. For the most parts I think the Happy Hour is best for a after work drink. The bar tender really makes a good Old Fashion,,,, Yeah I said Old Fashion , don't knock it unless you try. Bar Food Menu is top of the line Steak Frits and Duck and Andouille Gumbo. read more

Food was great, service was awful. The lights were way too bright and my table was at slant so we couldn't put our wine glasses on one side of the table. Our server didn't suggest or appear to be knowledgeable on their wine selection. We had to ask for the server to tell us the evenings specials and had to probe on his suggestions. The place appears old and slightly run down. For the amount of money we spent we should have had exceptional service and atmosphere. The food was great which is why I gave it two stars but I would not recommend this place. read more

UNIQUE EXPERIENCE I went with a large group and we got the chef's menu. We did 7 courses. We went through a couple of bottles of wine which were amazing. Great selection. I like that each course was a small portion. The chef came out and discussed each course. I like that rainbow lodge grows their own vegetables and herbs. I would recommend doing the chef menu for a nice celebration. read more

Business lost after years... Have been going here for years and tolerating the pitiful manager but love bar and patio dining. Tonight, we are done. After entrees and drinks over a couple hours, were turned down for a final cocktail just minutes after close --- and because we spent 5 minutes trying to catch his attention. Too many places to try. read more

The food was delicious we got the taste of game, lobster risotto, chicken schnitzel and bread pudding. I wish I could give a 4.5 rating. The food was great, service was good too but we sat outside because of Covid. Wish they had fans because that would make the outside seating so much more pleasant. read more

First time we ate here was great. But last night for Valentine's Day was really disappointing. Our server was very nice, but it took roughly 15 minutes just to get menus, they brought me the wrong appetizer and it took about 10 minutes before I could even tell someone it was wrong, and our main entrees took roughly an hour. The sommelier came over to help us pick a bottle of wine because I get a bad pain in the back of my jaw from certain kinds so we weren't sure what would be tame enough and he was kind of patronizing and rude, he made me feel uncomfortable and idiotic for my questions. It was our first valentine's as a married couple so it was just a disappointing night. We expect a restaurant of this caliber to go above and beyond to make a special occasion, well, special. Not saying we will never be back or anything, but probably not soon. read more

I was at the rainbow lodge last evening for a Christmas dinner if I can even use the c word anymore....I will admit that I did pregame fairly hard and did throw a glass of expensive red wine at a friend/colleague. That being said I went to the rainbow lodge expecting to have a lovey Christmas dinner but I was greeted my this awful millennial that had the audacity to shut off my party and ask us to leave because we were apparently too loud...this may or may not be true as I was blacked out but either way I would have like to stay longer to extend my black out. I also was very properly dressed with a nice blazer and a very festive Christmas tie... im not sure I will ever return but probably will because the food was great And I was prolly really drunk. read more

Typically I'm not a fan of game meat places but a friend recommended this place as an "old school Houston staple". Our meal was excellent, the menu was actually very exciting for us, the surrounding grounds were charming, service exceptional. The decor felt a little dated in some ways but again, I'm not typically prone to dining in lodge style restaurants. Overall, we were charmed by the experience and I'm happy to have been able to experience a Houston restaurant with legacy and beloved history. read more

Lunch at Rainbow Lodge was terrific. We had a group of 7, all ordered different dishes. Everyone was extremely pleased with the food. We normally eat at different restaurants each month but all agreed this is one to revisit soon. The buffalo steak was exceptional. The business lunch is a small version of 3 courses for $15 and was delicious as well as a great value. The gumbo and chili were really good as well. Our server, Jordan, was excellent, always available, prompt, and had great suggestions for both wine and food. read more

We decided to try this place for date night, I was a little worried when I herd the name of this place, but it did have a great feel to it. I ordered the sea scallops, they were ok, but raw in the middle, I didn't complain because I figured it was just a simple mistake, but I also got the ribeye steak, they had to do it twice (1st time was not done to order), the second steak was done ok (still slightly over cooked) but it was very coarse and sounded like I was cutting it with a hacksaw and poorly seasoned. I didn't finish it and after taking it home just threw it away. I was not impressed with those 2 dishes at all, for the price I don't think it was worth it.......But I will say I was very impressed with the blue cheese vinagerette with the potatoes (I hate blue cheese) but it was very good (very nice job guys and gals). My fiancé ordered the gumbo and it was very tasty I was impressed with that, she also got the fish with crab along with the bread pudding.........she should have ordered for both of us!!! Her meal was really good and well seasoned. So......with all the complaints why do I give them 4 stars? well my fiancés meal was wonderful, we were in a "private nook" area so it was romantic and the service was good, even the manager came out side to visit with us a few minutes while we were waiting for our car in the valet . That was a very nice personal touch. read more

Absolutely incredible. I've been to Rainbow Lodge many times! Always consistent quality and service!

I've been wanting to go to this place for a few years now but not willing to make the drive. I'm glad I didn't make a special effort to go there, happened to be in the area. It was average, the buffalo and venison were good, the rib eye - average at best and not cooked properly. I asked for med-rare to medium and got RARE. The interior outdated, wish it would have been warmer to sit on the patio. The jalapeno bacon grits just tasted like grits, nothing special, roasted brussell sprouts to much vinegar. I can check it off the list of places I want to go. read more

Let me start off by saying that I really enjoy Rainbow Lodge. I've been several times and never had a bad experience. I went to the most recent Sip & Stroll event where I enjoyed the food and wine, but was left very bothered by one of the waiters or cooks. Not sure if it was quiescence or not, but every time we (two girlfriends of mine) would walk up to a station he would tell the guy serving us food to give less. This happened more than once. Very unprofessional and it's not like the guy was giving us a mount of food. We are tiny 100lb ladies that bought our ticket and were looking forward to a nice evening at Rainbow Lodge. We were served 1 shrimp at the second station, seriously 1? There was a huge bowl and no line. I get that Rainbow Lodge can't give out tons considering this is a deal/marketing thing for them but it puts a very bad taste in our mouth. Let me also add that we stayed later for an additional glass of wine so it's a little disappointing if the waiter/cook did that because he thought we were coming in for the cheap. All in all, very unprofessional. read more

My mother and I and a family friend went for Christmas eve dinner. I had not been back to the Rainbow Lodge since they moved. I remember it being very good and was looking forward to going again after many years. I can't express how disappointed we were. If I could give 0 stars I would. First the server gave us our menus and then left us for at least 15 min before coming back to ask for our drink order. Then disappeared for another 15 min and we had to wave her down to find out about the specials and the Tasting menu. When asked about the 5 or 7 course chefs tasting menu she basically said that it was just "stuff" that the chef decided to put together but it would have all meat groups. Needless to say that is sounded like the leftover tasting menu not a chefs tasting menu We decided on 3 appetizers and individual entrees. For appetizers we had the scallops, fried quail, and fried oysters (which weren't on the appetizers but as an extra that you could order). Tha scallops were cooked perfect for which I will begrudgingly give 1 star. However it was on a slaw that was so over mayonaised iit was soggy. The oysters were OK buta the breaking was very heavy. Unfortunately the quail was dredged in the same gloppy breading that the oysters were in so I could have been eating clipped together chicken nuggets instead of quail. Would not have been able to notice the difference. Our entrees were elk chop, sea bass, and pheasant. The only entree that was even partially good was the sea bass it was cooked very nice but the tomatoe based vegetable mash did nothing for the dish. The elk chop had a spicy rub on it that imparted a good flavor if not just a tad to hot, but it was so incredibly tough and grisly that it was hard to chew. It was accompianied by a sort of squash tartain that was extremely oily The last entree was the "crispy" pheasant ( which was a funny discription since there was no skin and was definitely NOT crispy). The piece was a skinless leg and thigh that was dry as a bone and tasted like overdone rubber chicken. It was on a bed of risotto that was so undercooked that it was crunchy. It was also bland except for to over abundance of leeks. No depth of flavor I have been priivIlaged to have eaten in some great restaurants all over the country....some expensive...some not, but great cooking does not mean expensive. I was ready to have a fabulous meal that I could tell all my friends about but unfortunately I will be telling them to not even bother. The hype and chef obviously does not deliver. read more

I have to admit, the environment was a little cheesy for my taste.... but the food was outstanding! For a starter, my boyfriend and I shared southern fried quail. It was delicious. For entrees, I ordered the buffalo short ribs w/ a farro risotto and my boyfriend got the Texas Duo, which came with venison, antelope and asparagus. I do not ever eat meat rare... My boyfriend's venison was very rare but he insisted that I give it a try. Much to my surprise it was delicious! Everything we ate was really tasty. The wine list was huge and had bottles ranging from $28 on up-- not too shabby! The service was a little slow but not bad. Bring $ for valet (it's the only parking option). read more

We have had great experiences here. This is the perfect date night location or for a special event. The food is always top notch and the service is on point as well. Rainbow Lodge - Anniversary pecan pie! - New American Near Me - Houston, Texas

This is a quiet little lodge over a verdant bayou that focuses on southern cuisine, with a unique twist - perfection in exotic game and fowl. We were impressed with the service and purity of ingredients. This showing is from their Sunday Brunch, which is a wonderful event in itself but Chef Valdez often showcases his imaginary skills and authentic expertise with his specials. These dishes presented below need little comment. Also to note, the waitstaff is very knowledgeable and steadfast in replenishing the .99c Mimosas/Sparkling wines. They also welcome patrons to spend as much time enjoying their ambiance and outdoor location as needed. Fantastic Sunday brunch with an amazing and diverse menu. Love the $2 mimosas!! Great for a girls' outing, just make sure you have reservations or you might catch an attitude at the door, which is why I didn't give them 5 star. Who has time for snotty staff when they're supposed to make you feel welcomed? The waiter was great which halfway made up for it. I ordered the crab omelet with fried green tomatoes. I'm pretty sure the patrons disappeared when I ate, that's how delicious the food was. Will be back (most likely without reservations just to be entertained). read more

Such a great experience. First and foremost, the food is damn tasty. We tried the Taste of the Wild, which was a perfect way to get to try different meats but still enjoy a big steak for your meal. It was tempting to order a second plate because the flavors were that good. The Roasted Pear salad was delicious, but the Caesar was just average. The Filet and Ribeye were absolutely fantastic, and we're both cooked to the right temp (though I would error on more rare if you're on the fringe). House wine and draft beer prices were reasonable, and the Lemon Pie was to die for. Experience wise, they for sure live up to the Lodge theme, and have good music playing at the perfect volume. While I don't think anyone would call it cheap, you definitely feel like you're getting your money's worth. Will be back. read more

It's the Rainbow Lodge! Great food and service. Love the wild game burger on Friday lunches.

I haven't been here for dinner in a while so this is a review for their happy hour. $5 classic cocktails - Martini, Vesper, Cosmos, etc. and a bar food menu second to none. Bartenders are not only friendly but professionals at making drinks. You never feel like you're getting less than what you would get if you paid full price. The bar area is a cool, normally quiet space, unless there's a couple of drunk forty-somethings cackling about their co-workers, but that's rare. Try the short rib grilled cheese with their house made potato chips and a cold cocktail. You'll thank me later. read more

My Girlfriend and I had Sunday Brunch for her birthday at the Rainbow Lodge. I had made reservations ahead of time as this was a very special occasion. The Hostess escorted us to a table with no view. I requested a better table which the waiter accommodated. During the start of our lunch I spilled my water accidentally on the table. It took three tries to get the waiter to recognize the problem and to remove the cloths napkins which we used to wipe off the water on the table. The waiter never attempted to change the table cloth nor bring a new table napkin for me. I ordered a Mimosas. No effort was made to refill my glass through out our meal. Our food was brought out and no effort to check to see if we wanted anything else. The birthday treat compliments of the restaurant were brought to our table and nothing was said to us. That said, the food was exceptional and the atmosphere was good, the service was 0. This is a real Oxymoron. read more

Calling all carnivores! Step right up to Rainbow Lodge! This cabin-like restaurant is pretty massive and set atop a huge plot of land. Complimentary valet awaited us and we stepped in for a nice Saturday dinner. I just love places like these, screw the modern, industrial look, I like the intimate cozy house-like restaurants. This place is fairly complex for a cabin, with upstairs and down stairs dining areas and even some hidden dining areas. We were seated at one of the best seats in the house. We immediately ordered a nice Merlot to accompany the red meat festivities we were about to encounter. We browsed the menu, which had ordinary and out of the ordinary menu items. We were very adventurous that night and decided to order the Slow Smoked Duck Gumbo, when this arrived we apprehensively dove right in. It had great smokey flavor and the duck had a succulent rich flavor. It gets the nod of approval. On to the main course, I ordered the Bison Ribeye and my boyfriend ordered a sample of everything, a hunter's paradise (sounds horrible I know), a sample of venison, duck, and elk. My bison ribeye was juicy, but not fatty. It was perfectly seasoned. My boyfriend's dish on the other hand was fairly average, the star being the duck the worst being the elk, which was fairly gamey. So if you want to take a walk on the wild side and broaden your food spectrum, then give Rainbow a try. It will not disappoint. read more

Loved the experience! It was amazing and the food was beyond amazing. However, my family was slightly confused on the name of a drink called the Hurricane Harvey. Just a suggestion to the restaurant is to name it the JJ Watt or something like that. I'm not sure if people would get along with that name as many people did lose their homes due to that and the JJ Watt Savior would be more pleasing to the people of Houston. Other than that, it was perfect! read more
