Ragin' Hoq BBQ is without a doubt a dive. We almost went to the eatery right across the street just because it looked so much nicer from the outside; however, that would have been a huge mistake. Upon walking in we were greeted by the most heavenly smokey aroma one could imagine. The smell brings a smile to your face, life to your taste buds, and the satisfaction of knowing you are about to experience some true smoked BBQ. Upon ordering, I went with a two meat plate choosing their chopped pork and their special of the day, burnt ends. The combo also came with the choice of two sides, a dessert and a drink all for $16.00. It was an incredible deal. For my sides I went with mac-n-cheese and corn bread. For my dessert I chose their buttermilk pie. The food in just about every way met or exceeded the high expectations that came along with the smell we had experienced walking in. The chopped pork was cooked to perfection, juicily and down right tasty. They offer 5 different home made BBQ sauces and their Carolina sauce complemented the chopped pork like a horse complements a cowboy. It was a pairing made in heaven. The burnt ends where very, very good; however, I did feel they were over shadowed by the chopped pork. Furthermore, I was able to give their baked beans a try in additional to the two sides I had chosen and they were sweat and cooked to perfection. As was the mac-n-cheese. The cornbread was a little dry for my liking, but that didn't matter ... the rest of the food was so good I barely even noticed the cornbread was even there. For me the baked bean and mac-n-cheese as the two sides I will choose if I ever get the honor of eating at Ragin' Hog BBQ again. I ended my meal with their buttermilk pie. I have never heard of buttermilk pie so I wanted to give it a try. Man, what a way to end a meal. It was absolutely delicious! The BBQ at Ragin' Hog was some of the best I have had. The service and southern hospitality was amazing. The price point and value took them to a whole other level. I'm no expert in BBQ but I genuinely believe that this place was actually pretty awesome from the start. The service was quick and the people were really nice and didn't seem to mind that I made it obvious I was a first-timer. I stocked up on all their sauces to give them all a shot and some of them were quite exciting. Again, not an expert so I really don't know the difference between city styles. Now the reason I love this place so much. The sandwich was pretty good and it went really well with the sauces I liked. The potato salad was AWESOME. Mac n cheese was good. But what is buttermilk pie and why is it so good? That was a very pleasant surprise. My colleague loved the coleslaw, said it was the best she ever had and she also enjoyed the buttermilk pie immensely. Stopped in after a day of looking for housing. All my life has been spent under the influence of Texas BBQ, and the last 16 years I've lived in Austin, which now boasts some of the best BBQ in the world. Ragin' Hog was right up there. They didn't have brisket (they mentioned having it on Saturdays, so I'll be back to try some) but the pork ribs and pulled pork are some of the very best I've ever had. Anywhere. I'm not a sauce user, so I can't tell you how their sauces compare, but the three I tried were very good. I got cole slaw for a side, and it reminds me of my grandmother's. Could use a tiny bit of black pepper, but that's just me. You can tell they slow smoke their meat. They do it the hard way, and it shows. The sausage was good. I'm used to the coarse grind that central Texas sausages have, and the links here are a fine grind, but perfectly spiced. They pack a great punch. All in all, I'll be back very often. It's really wonderful to have found good BBQ. Not good BBQ. Great BBQ. Really, you should try them today. read more

This place is bad ass. Unassuming, and the entrance faces away from Lowell blvd. It's in the building in the Safeway shopping center that is closest to Lowell and runs parallel to it. The lady that runs this place is really cool and makes some amazing BBQ. She told me that she gets up at 4am every day to start smoking meat. I'm really glad that people decide to do this kind of thing so that I can benefit from it. Her food is delicious - across the board. I had the pulled pork, links, slaw, potato salad and all 5 types of her homemade bbq sauce: Memphis, Carolina, Georgia, Sweet and Hot. I felt like I was traveling around the country to different BBQ havens just by changing my sauce every few bites. She encouraged me to try them all with my to-go order and stuffed large containers of each in my bag. Customer service is 5 stars too. I didn't have cash on me at the moment and she told me I could just pay her later. It was my first time in. She doesn't know me. That's pretty darn cool. I jogged over to safeway and pulled out cash, but I really appreciated the gesture. They don't take credit cards, which I totally respect for this type of mom and pop business. If you like BBQ the way that it's supposed to be made, you gotta stop in. She said she's expanding hours and the menu soon as well which is great news. We really liked the service and were looking forward to really great BBQ based on the reviews here. Maybe it was just too late in the day or something, but it was nothing that I couldn't wait to eat again. The meat was a bit dry, but the sauces you had to choose from made it much better. It shouldn't have needed sauces so desperately, though. The baked beans were good, slaw good, mac and cheese good. So if im not mistaken this place is run by one woman all alone.... which is just unreal. She produces some awesome awesome food. A group of 5 of us went around closing time so we got loaded up with a her meat and 2 side option. (comes with drink and dessert.. cant beat that) I got the pulled pork sandwich and it was cooked right and you got to place one of the various sauces on it.. All of them were very tasty and not overbearing. The group i was with got a mix of everything and had no complaints. I have eaten BBQ from all around and I can say this place has it going on. I tried it once for a family reunion we were having in a near by park. It was so good we have been going back for over a year now. They have never disappointed me! Their homemade sauces are to die for! Finally made it in and for the North Side this place is awesome. Way better than the more overpriced BBQ on Tennyson. And more authentic home style than Moe's or Brother's. Had the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw & mac 'n cheese with buttermilk pie. My dad had the ribs, coleslaw & baked beans. Coleslaw was great very cold and crunchy. First off, they have about 5 homemade sauces to choose from, HOT, Georgia, Memphis, Sweet and Carolina. I got some of each as my order was to go. They are all really good, my favorite was HOT. Both the pulled pork and ribs were moist and flavorful, the sides were pretty good my only complaint is that the portion was a small. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the small business atmosphere and family run vibe. They have Square so they take credit cards and cash. Give them a try, especially for lunch. Pretty depressing even by hole-in-the-wall standards. I got a two-meat meal with brisket and "hot" links, BBQ beans, potato salad, and buttermilk pie. At ~$17 this was quite spendy, so I expected everything to be awesome. * Brisket: Bland and dry. Even Dickey's is better. * Hot links: No hint of heat whatsoever. Again, worse than Dickey's. * BBQ beans: Pretty good. * Potato salad: Probably the best potato salad I've ever had. Yay! * Buttermilk pie: AWESOME. If I hadn't ended the meal on the high note of the buttermilk pie, I would've felt totally ripped off. I'd heard the good reviews of this place so decided to check it out after my weekly stop at Safeway. When I saw the menu, I texted my husband to say "I hope you're hungry!" Got our food to go and wanted to try a little bit of everything. The brisket was the winner in the meat department, but the ribs and pork were also very good. Love the homemade sauces -- just a heads up that the Carolina style is more specifically a Western Carolina style, with tomato and vinegar, not the Eastern Carolina style I prefer (vinegar and pepper only). And the sides. We gorged on mac and cheese, cole slaw and potato salad. Would be great if they'd add a few healthier sides (maybe some green vegetables? Succotash? Collard greens?), but it was good southern cooking - tasty and fresh. Note they take CASH only -- no credit cards. Really glad I discovered this place and will definitely be back! read more

Got ribs, sausage, and burnt ends as takeout. Sausage was decent, though Whole Foods makes better. Burnt ends were ok, though pretty dry. Ribs were tender, but dry and there was almost no pork flavor. Maybe they had an off day, but having just gotten back from Austin, TX, it was disappointing that what's supposed to be some of Denver's best bbq was barely decent. Variety of BBQ sauces which were good, but you shouldn't need sauce to make the meat palatable. Tasted like restaurant depot meat, smoked with an indoor electric smoker. The place is a hole in the wall but it is clean and the staff is friendly. I ordered two meat combo, ribs & burnt ends. The order was taken, I received ribs and pork meat. I was there before noon and the burnt ends don't come up till later in the afternoon but this was not communicated to me. I did over hear her tell the guest that walked in after me the burnt ends not ready till later in the day. I didn't like the flavor/taste of the ribs or the pork meat on my plate. Very bland, they do have 5 or 6 different kind of sauce on all tables but the meat on its own is bland. The sides were baked beans and slaw. The slaw was average, nothing fantastic and I thought the beans were below average. I'm not trying to be mean or sound stingy. I spent $17.28 before tip and I didn't like my food. Had really been wanting to go to this love for a while and finally decided to give it a try. I placed my order here through Yelp and grub hub and was charged at the end of my transaction. However I was notified that I would be let known when my order was confirmed. After about 5 minutes of waiting I called the place and was automatically sent to a voice message that said they were sold out for the day. However on my app it said my food was prepared and ready for pick up. When I got to the place there was a sign on the door saying they've been closed from July 4th to today, July 7th. It's a small spot with a few large group type tables, but not a ton of seating if there's a lunch rush. Everything is made in-house and they have 5 different types of BBQ sauces: Carolina, Georgia, Memphis, sweet and hot and all are sooooo good! We drive from University Hills almost every week to eat at Ragin' Hog. If you're from the South, my husband's from Arkansas, then you'll drive as far as you need to eat BBQ as delicious as this. I had the baby back ribs, mac and cheese, baked beans, collard greens, cornbread and tater salad. The ribs were very meaty, I've never seen that much meat on a baby back rib, it was a little disconcerting. They had tons of sauces to choose from, I chose the sweet and the memphis. I memphis reeked of vinegar so I left it alone. The collard greens were too bland for me, and the potato salad a bit too soggy. The beans were very good and so was the mac and cheese as well as the cornbread. Back to the ribs tho... I nibbled at one, and it tasted ok, I think the ribs were probably really really extra fresh and I'm not used to that lol. They did smell delicious though!
