I was in the market for some additional space for our various family outdoor activities. Initially, I was wondering about trailers but knew nothing about cargo racks etc... I stopped in as I was in the area and eventually spoke to Jud. He took the time to listen and explain all the various options they could do for me. I am an idiot. Thankfully, Hutch's Rack-N-Roll managed to mitigate my idiocy and saved my weekend getaway to Bend. So, I have a new car. My first SUV. And I'm new to the NW and doing any sort of activities that requires strapping gear to your car. I roll up to my kayak rental shop, only to learn that those bars atop my ride? They're hardly sufficient for strapping boats to my roof and driving through the mountains. Whoops. Thankfully, I called Hutch's and not only do they have exactly what I need, but they'd be happy to install them right away. I was in their shop within 15 minutes, and back out in another 20, with awesome new roof racks installed. I lost less than an hour of my vacation fun times, and nobody made me feel like the city-slicker dummy that I so clearly am. Good people running a good business. If I decide that I need more gear-specific racks attached to the car, I very well might wait until my next trip to Bend so that these guys can install it. **I'm bummed I have to write this but unfortunately the manager is unwilling to work with me on a restocking fee that was never mentioned when ordering a fit kit through them.** Firstly, I would like to say that I always buy local first when I can. The fit kit I was looking for is available on Amazon but I opted to work with a local shop instead. I was referred to Rack-N-Roll by Cascade Rack because I was looking for a specific Thule Fit Kit that they didn't have in stock. I called Rack-N-Roll and left a message and my call was returned the next day by the manager. He explained they didn't have it in stock either but could next-day order it. He explained they can't keep every single fit kit in stock (totally understandable) so" the rack companies have a deal where they will next-day fit kits". I took them up on ordering it the following day . When it arrived, I was notified and I went right down to pick it up. I brought my existing racks and asked if I could put them on with the new fit kit in their parking lot. When I went to install it on my car it became apparent the fit kit wasn't going to work on my setup at all. I came back inside to tell the woman, Jennifer, at the front counter and she offered me new towers for another $260....This quickly became a much more expensive endeavor than I had set out for. I wanted to think about it and asked asked Jennifer if I could return the fit kit I ordered if I decided to abandon this fit kit - she said I could. I went out to my car one more time to see if there was something I was missing, but it definitely wasn't going to work with my existing crossbars and towers. When I went in to return the fit kit, the manager came out to process the return and told me they would return it but I had to pay a 20% restocking fee...and asked me if that was ok. At this point, I didn't really have a choice as I now had a fit kit that was worthless to my setup...and I was just now being told about the restocking fee policy for special orders. This was the first I had ever heard of this policy and they had multiple opportunities to mention it in our several conversations before ordering it. Had I known early on that I would be on the hook for the restocking fee, I would have just gone through Amazon. There were many missed opportunities for customer service here. Never was I asked what equipment I had before ordering. Never was the risk explained of ordering the wrong part though them. At no point did anyone came out briefly to see if I did in fact have the wrong part, or if I was just assembling it wrong. Instead they promptly returned the product and took a $25 restocking fee. I called the manager back later after leaving because I had such a pit in my stomach about this interaction and wanted to give them the chance to make it right. Instead I was lectured about how they cannot keep all items in stock and that they were on the hook for the next-day shipping costs that he was trying to recoup. Once I was able to get a word in, I tried to explain that I completely understood their stock situation, that makes complete sense to me and I never expected them to have it on hand. But what I didn't understand is why throughout our whole transaction, I wasn't informed about their restocking policy until I unfortunately had to return the item. He told me "this is why we like to be a part of the process when putting together a rack system", but they never were a part of the process and never asked me any questions about my setup. I thought it was ironic that at the end of our conversation he said if there was anything else they could do for me to just ask. I would like to have my restocking fee refunded and for you to partner with future inquiring customers and help them avoid ordering the wrong part, and to be clear about the restocking policy with future customers as well. **Update** I called Cascade Rack: they also do next-day orders and don't charge restocking fees. He asked me two questions and was able to find out what existing rack I had and why it wouldn't work with the fit kit I ordered. read more

Super quick and friendly service. I have a 2020 rav4, so, unfortunately, the new style of racks don't fit my old Thule kayak rack. They did a little research and found some parts to order to make it happen. In the meantime, while I'm waiting for my parts they installed an inexpensive rack for $150 so I could get my kayak on and get out on the water right away. I would highly recommend going to these guys over anyone else in town as the service is much friendlier and they work with you to get you what you need at the best deal. read more

On a recent trip to beautiful Bend, it was decided that kayaking was an absolute must. Having an SUV with a roof rack we proceeded gayly with our plans, reserving kayaks, planning which lake to go to, even paying for them ahead of time. Ah-oh! We go to pick up our kayaks and realize: no cross bars! Palm to forehead! Duh! What do we do? Call Rack-and-Roll on the recommendation of your boat rental friends. No problem they say! We have what you need! We can take care of you the second you get here! Off we go. Upon arriving we got a solid greeting and quick service. Since they knew we were coming I had the bars picked out and the car in the garage having them installed before my husband had the chance to check in. We payed and bam, they were done! One of the easiest, if not THE easiest processes I have ever been privy to when a vehicle is involved. They quickly went over out locks, shook my hand and sent us on our way. What was a silly and ridiculous oversight that could have derailed our entire day was quickly and professionally handled in less than a half hour by these guys. Excellent work! read more

Ok, so this business MUST be compared to Les Schwab...I can't not. I purchased crossbars, a cargo box, and 2 bike mounts about a year ago. THEN, I bought a different car and when I did that, the dealership I purchased from moved everything over for me, but, it wasn't as secure. So, I swung my car by Rack-n-Roll to see if they could adjust the set up and they undid, redid, and put on a ocuple more parts to help the system become a bit more solid on the new car. Love these guys. Spent some time in Central Oregon in May and picked up a couple of bikes so we could ride the canyon. When we realized there was no room in the van with the bikes inside, we went to Rack-N-Roll, where we were helped by Jud. He showed us a couple of options and was completely low key and low pressure when we asked if we could sleep on it. Rack-N-Roll rented us a bike rack - not just the rack, but the swing away hitch mount, at a great price! But it's not the great price that gives them 5 stars - the manager, Jason, is truly customer-service oriented, and was incredibly helpful, flexible, and accommodating. They have several types of racks in-stock, and he understood our needs (large Ford Transit van with the need to access the rear doors) and found us a swing-away mount and rack combo that fit our needs. They set it up for us and we were on our way! We rented bikes from Hutch's, not even realizing that Hutch's is their parent company. Separate review there, but great experiences also! We are on vacation - not even locals, and may not end up buying a rack or mount from them, and that didn't matter to the excellent customer service, and just kind, warm, human nature of Jason and the staff. I would really like to buy something from them, if they have the combo we end up deciding we want - the one we rented was almost perfect, but our van door couldn't quite lock open - only needed another inch of room. The Yakima swing away was rock solid and easy to use for both me and my husband, and the Kuat rack was simple and secure as well. I hope we can return to either rent or buy something from them! Highly recommend. I did some research online for what I wanted on my new Tacoma and came in for an opinion. I was shown a few different setups and pro/cons of each. As a result I ended up going with another setup they had (Rhino Rack vs Yakima) that was a better fit for my needs. Jason was great to work with, very informative. I'll be going back in with my Subaru to get more equipment. No other store in town or online had the proper mounts with adequate clearance for my rig. At least not right away and not without paying for shipment. I'd lost the key and had been able to get it open using a yakima brand key but it inevitably took 20 minutes of fiddling around. So I called different locations that had Thule between Issaquah and Bend to see if anyone had one I could pick up on our way to SR. Thankfully I found these guys.
