I came to these guys to install a hitch and wiring on my Volvo XC90. I had the hitch already, and when I called to order the wiring and setup an install appointment, I specifically told them that I needed a 7 pin plug for my trailer, not the standard 4 pin. It's literally why I went to them. They assured me they ordered the correct wiring with the 7 pin plug I needed, and I waited a week for it to come in. I drop the car off for install, and not only did they install the incorrect wiring (4 pin not 7), they wired it so I would have a wire coming from the interior trunk of the car, not from the exterior. It was very poorly done. When I brought up the fact that it wasn't what I ordered and paid for, they offered no solution to fix it. They told me that all they could do was "rip it out". I had to have an auto electrician install an adapter for the correct plug, and he ended up having to re-wire everything because it wasn't even installed correctly in the first place, it was actually shorting out and cutting off the brake lights on my car and could have been a VERY dangerous situation. They did a good job installing the hitch itself, but the wiring was a disaster, they left me in a potentially very dangerous situation with no brake lights, and I waited for a week for nothing. I'd like a refund for the wiring kit and install considering I had to pay someone else to completely re-do it and install the plug I asked for in the first place. read more

It was kinda of a mess because the screw was stripped and bar was not latching on correctly. Man, I wanted this place to be cool... It sucked. Got a quote for a hitch installation at this store that came out to over $700. I looked into U-Haul and they are going to do the same job with the same product for $450. Rack Attack was overcharging about $50 for the hitch itself, and labor was double. Installing one of these is about a 1-2-hour job for an amateur. Anybody that has done this before (let alone does it for a living) and has a lift would knock this out in a half hour, if that. They wanted $225 for the hitch install. Another $150 for wiring install... and wouldn't budge. $375 an hour for isntall labor... No thanks. Was also looking at a bike rack. They said the low end of the range was $400 for a hitch rack. I just bought a Yakima hitch rack, one of the brands they carry, for $175 on Amazon. (I got a deal on it). They have cool stuff, but they are trying to rob people. Look around. Save a lot of money. Save more if you install it yourself, it isn't that tough, I just don't want to mess with it becuase its a lot easier with a lift. I can't see how they will stay in business, but I hope they change their model and become competitive. read more

TLDR: Customer service over the phone matters, and this team doesn't deliver. Disrespectful and sluggish. I spent $532.17 on a new rack and ended up returning it before receiving it, because I couldn't get ahold of an associate over the phone for more than 15 seconds on the day of expected delivery, just to ask if my rack had arrived. I've worked my fair share of retail positions (6+ years) and frankly, it's not good enough to answer your phones with, "Rack Attack Pasadena. Do you mind holding for 10 minutes?" without first hearing why your customer is calling. It doesn't matter how busy you are. It's unacceptable to then make your customer wait 15 minutes. The customer experience is based on fulfilling expectations. To follow that up with "Rack Attack Pasadena, please hold. [ CLICK ]" Is just rude. While processing my return, the associate helping me answered the phone the same way: "Rack Attack Pasadena, please hold. [ CLICK ]" I was the only customer in the store, so I know he wasn't too busy. It's real upsetting when you choose to support a local retailer, only to be let down by a lack of respect for your time. Pretty straight forward to load the bike(hold the fork and back frame then load & lock the front tire first). I called the store a few days ago to see if they had the Thule Motion XT XXL. I spoke with a man on the phone who said they had the item. I asked him if they had any promotional pricing on it due to it being a much lower price (almost 200 less) at some of the local competitors websites (Amazon and REI). The man cut me off quickly and explained they don't price match and he wouldn't discount the item due to the Covid pandemic. He further added that because of the pandemic items were short and they wouldn't discount the item because other retailers had limited stock. I explained to him the item was in stock on other retailers websites and could be shipped to my door. He cut me off again and said "it isn't in stock in store and we don't price match." I thanked him and ended the call. So I hop onto my internet browser and start looking online to see what their policies were in regards to price matching. There it was plain as day "If you find an online retailer that carries the same item at a lower price (including shipping costs), in stock, Rack Attack will beat that price by 10% up to a maximum of $10.00 for the total order value." So I call the number listed next to that quote to ascertain the reasoning behind them not honoring their own policy. The man at the call center explained to me that rack attack reserves the right to not price match at any given time and that it is explained in their policy as well. He told me that because of the coronavirus pandemic they would not discount the price. I asked if there was anything he could do to help as I wanted to give the local business my money rather than amazon or a large chain. Without any remorse in his voice or concern he said there was nothing he could do. So why do I think they deserve 1 star? Look I get it, it's a supply and demand thing right? But the problem is it was in stock at REI and also on amazon. I think it's pretty low for a business to use the pandemic as an excuse to make a few more bucks on an item just because they can. I am really happy with 'Rack Attack.' I was researching Cargo boxes from my small suv and I found one that I liked online. But I wasn't sure if it would fit on my car and was the right choice. So I called Rack Attack. They honestly didn't try and sell me on going to their store. They helped me pick the right one for my SUV. No hard sell and I really appreciated their honestly. Also, I'm pretty handy and it seemed like installing one would be straight forward enough, but I thought about driving down the freeway with with my kids in the car and this box not being in the right place. I decided to have a pro install it instead of me. Also, it's the middle of the Covid crisis. So I called and asked it would be ok if I paid for the cargo box online then have Cesar install it with me standing 6 feet away. No problem.
