The sushi is good. However, when I placed the order over the phone, the kind lady told me it will be ready in ten minutes. I live about 15 mins away so I hop in my car as soon as I got off the phone. As I got there, no one greeted me. The workers walked in and out of the restaurant onto their patios to talk to other customers. But did not acknowledge me at all. I waited for about 10-15mins to be noticed. Finally, a worker came up and asked if I needed something. I told her that I placed an order for pick up. And she went to the back to check. Once she returned (5more mins had already passed), she said my order will be ready in 10-15mins. Seriously?! I was told that when I first placed the order over the phone at 11:55pm. So, as I waited my 10-15more mins, I see a cockroach crawl by me! So disgusting! It is 12:35am. I finally have my food. That was the longest "10 minutes" ever! I did also look at my food and hardly any steamed vegetables are there! Three sticks of asparagus one slice of squash, 4 rings of bell peppers and a ring of an onion. Ra sushi in mesa is terrible! I've been going to this place for years, but the past 3 years the service here is awful. If you sit at the bar it is slow if you sit at a table it's a nightmare. It should not take 30 minutes to get a cocktail and some sushi for two people. We will be finding a new sushi place that believes in training their staff to be attentive to the customers. I have reviewed RA before and we have always had great food and service so naturally we recommended it when we were going out with another couple 8/21. We were going to have two 90+ ladies with us and asked for regular paper menus for them. We were advised there absolutely no paper menus, they couldn't find any. We ordered drinks, appetizers and main courses and spent over $200. Everyone's orders came out separate, 10 - 15 minutes apart so each of us were waiting for the other to get their food. Also, we ordered some sushi rolls and each of us had to ask for wasabi and ginger as it wasn't served with any of the rolls. Ordered second round of drinks and those too were served separately. There was a round table of 5 ladies in the back and they were so loud, it was difficult to have any type of discussion or listen at our own table. I have been to RA a handful of times for happy hour, and was always annoyed by the loud music and crowd. However, this time I went here for happy hour as a first stop for a Bachelorette party and I had a great time. The upbeat social atmosphere was great for getting the night started. The group ordered a ton of appetizers and rolls, and even a drink each, and we walked out at about $30 a piece. The elderberry mixed drink was especially good. Normally, I do not pick this place for sushi happy hour because I don't like their quality of sushi and like quieter placed to relax with a friend or two. But if your going for a fun group atmosphere, this place is perfect. But only during happy hour, otherwise it is definitely not worth the price. read more

Love sushi, not loving Ra. Stopped by on Saturday night on a whim for pre-concert eats. Asked to sit at the sushi bar, as I planned to be in and out quickly. Here's a brief summary of the "misses": -spicy tuna roll was sloppy, ill-formed. -warm, mushy, borderline inedible spicy tuna mix. WAY too much mayo. It was creamy with the texture of over-cooked oatmeal. -spicy yellowtail roll was a little less warm, little less sloppy. Didn't have the appearance of canned cat food. Arguably, I could have brought this to the attention of the sushi chef, but he didn't speak English well and I was in a hurry to get to the show. My server was polite and brought several refills of water and the check was prompt. The cost was a little high for me, $7.50 for basic rolls, ending up at $15 plus tax for my meal. I'm not one to jump to conclusions, but I felt very ill the rest of the night-- sweating, feeling dizzy and nauseous. It's likely I'll be in the area again, and if I feel like giving Ra another shot, I will definitely hope for a better experience. read more

I really liked that they had both raw sushi items and cooked bar food items on the happy hour specials. We ordered the Sashimi plate for dinner and it was a great size, 16 pieces, with good quality fish. Our server messed up a few times on our order, he was very cool/hip while he corrected his messes. He offered up lunch and who am I to refuse! :) They have a very broad selection for the hard core sushi fan and the mildly experimental sushi boy (or girl). The service was great. The Viva Las Vegas roll was was harder and less flavorful than similar rolls from other sushi restaurants. We weren't served any ginger or wasabi with our sushi. After asking, we still waited several minutes (until all of one roll was gone) to receive a little dab for two rolls. We dined during happy hour. For the portion and quality of food, it was definitely overpriced. I would be extremely unhappy paying the full price (which I estimate would be $75 for 2 people). Also, I think of happy hour pricing as being better than $1 off $8 drinks. The spicy shrimp roll was good. The overall size of the rolls seemed a little smaller than usual. Not a lot, like maybe 15-20% smaller. The fried banana with Kahlua is affordable ($5.75) and decent tasting, but it honestly was about 1/3 of a banana. I came to eat here with my co-worker for lunch a couple fridays ago. I paid around $40 for 1 person including tip, which to me was ridiculously overpriced for the food. I got the Viva Las Vegas roll and California dreamer roll? The Vegas roll was pretty good but I wish it come with more quantity overall I definitely did not get full, which is why I got the California roll. That roll came with some type of salad on the top with wonton chips, the salad made everything really soggy and I unfortunately did not enjoy my roll. However the reason for the extra star is because our server was extremely nice and helpful and we let her know we were on lunch and she tried her best to get everything on our table within the hour. This was my first time coming into RA and my server, Emily B. was phenomenal. She showed my family and I how the menu worked and made awesome recommendations that we all loved like the scallop dynamite & crazy monkey. Even though she was very busy she kept us updated on kitchen times and still went out of her way to make drink recommendations as well, and was very engaged with our kids and made sure they were having a good time. I'm unsure how to feel. Ra has been my favorite nearby sushi place for a while, but for the past several orders i have placed to be picked up, the quality of the food gets lower and lower. Every time i've gone INTO the restaurant it's better but it's been a while since i've been in, regardless, this order will be my last for a while. the lotus crisps on top of the vegas roll was rubbery, and the roll itself was essentially just rice and the spicy tuna piled on top. I'm not sure if it's just them skimping out on takeaway orders or if the overall quality is declining, but either way i'm taking a break. it's not worth $30 for 2 subpar rolls. read more

For a restaurant with many good postings I'm very disappointed of our experience. Our dinning experience we came on Fourth of July which wasn't busy (less than 10 tables). For a $30 plate we expected to be 5 stars yet the chicken, fried rice, and shrimp were very plain and didn't have ANY FLAVOR AT ALL. I am actually dumbfounded by the incredibly bad service I experienced this evening. I placeda to go order at 7:15 PM (double checked on my phone), and I hung up the phone with the hostess at approximately 7:17 PM (see screenshot). She kindly told me on the phone that it would be about 25 minutes. I lost track of time and showed up a few minutes late for what I thought would be a food pickup. I paid for my food at 7:47 (see screenshot). I was told it should just "be a few minutes". The hostess offered me some water and I sat down. Around 8 o'clock I was starting to wonder where my food was. At 8:05 I let the hostess know it had been nearly an hour. She responded to me "well I told you it would take 25 minutes." Which I responded to you with yes 25 minutes would've been at 7:45. By 815 I still haven't received my food and asked to speak to manager. The manager stated that they were understaffed and "slammed" (the restaurant was empty). He offered to pay for half of the bill and apologized. He also said my food would be right out. I waited another 10 minutes before my food came out and it was in terrible condition. I ordered cucumber rolls - previously they had always been beautifully prepared and neatly wrapped. Some of mine were falling apart and they were also very small. They didn't peel the cucumber, and I'm not sure they even washed it. I can't believe I waited over an hour to receive subpar food and a half hearted apology from the manager. The manager, "Jake," seems to have no experience in the food service industry and is completely unempathetic to dissatisfied customers. I lost an hour of my life for gas station quality sushi in this fiasco. Couldn't give this a lower rating. read more

There are a few things I love about this place. I like that it's not located in a super busy area, so much easier to park and get a table quickly. My favorite sushi rolls are the Las Vegas and the Scallop Dynamite! So delicious. However, there are things I HATE about this place too. The only two sushi rolls I like are on the expensive side but that's because I'm not a fan of their other rolls. The tootsie roll is always mediocre with no flavor. I don't like how incredibly loud the music is every time I've been there, you can't even hear the people you're there with. read more

Such a great experience this was. We shared some ahi tuna, vegas rolls, garlic snap peas, and had fried ice cream for dessert. The Sushi was made perfectly! One thing I would say about their green ice tea... DON'T GET IT!! It seriously tastes like someone took a diaper and rung it out in the tea. The Garlic snap peas are my new favorite thing. Good place to go grab some not so expensive sushi. Service is usually extremely spotty though and the sushi takes forever. At least it is somewhat fresh. I can't remember the names of the sushis and sashimis and suzukis and spimonis I have eaten there. But they are usually tasty. Biggest downfall of this place is the terrible DJ music dance club crap that is playing way way too loud every time I have been there. Near impossible to even hear the person next to you. Finally decided to leave our home after being quarantined for 2 months to celebrate my friends bday at RA, a place she selected. The quality of food was horrible, not fresh at all especially their sushi. Four of us girls were looking forward to this celebration with a cocktail, Good service and food. We got the 100% opposite. Service was so bad the waitress would see us as we would try to get her attention but she kept walking away. The kitchen also lost my ticket so my friends had their appetizers and dinner while I still waited and because we were being ignored by our waitress i finally asked about my dinner, well they admitted that the ticket was lost and they just put in a new one.... TWO HOURS LATER I got my food which did not meet any expectations at all! Food was horrible, service was too but, to experience the waitress walking away with the cash left over from my bill without asking if that's her tip (which was almost 50%) just made it really clear that they don't care for their customers or reputation. I was being supportive of our local restaurants but NEVER AGAIN, RA!!!! read more

We went to Ra on Sunday 2/19/23. It took 15 minutes for a server to come to our table. We ordered edamame and by the time they came we had no plates, silverware or napkins. We had to go ask for napkins because our server never came back. When our sushi came, the Las Vegas roll looked like it was not cooked all the way and tasted horrible that we sent it back. We also sent back another roll that was slimy and didnt taste good. The Rasome roll that I had along with the Las Vegas roll ended up tasting fine, until later that night. I was SICK to my stomach for over 24 hours throwing up! I had major stomach pain and was nauseous non stop. I will NEVER eat there again. The service was horrible! The hostess wasnt even at the front desk when we walked in and took at least 5 min to help us. (There were other people waiting as well.) She was wearing a baggy flannel with a crop top on and you couldn't even tell she worked there! She looked like she had just woken up! We used to love RA and go all the time. Something changed. I don't know if its new owners or what, but we will NEVER go again or Recommend this location! read more

I'm really not much of a Sushi person. But I have had some OK experiences here in the company of true Sushi lovers. The staples: Nice atmosphere, exceptional service and concern for your RA experience, Mid-range tasty food. Like I said, sushi is not my Forte (or my Fiddy), so imma stay in my lane. And, ya know, Darcie doesn't even like seafood... I know, but I love her. So what do we get? Spicy Shrimp Soup and/or Miso Soup. Both are pretty tasty. RA, however, is very fast and loose with the word spicy (read on). Spicy Chicken Teriyaki Udon. It's ok, though nothing like you could get in Seattle where there's a Yaki joint on every corner and the competition leads to explosively awesome flavor. Yeah, it's not that. But it's pretty good for the non-Sushi goer. The thing to be aware of with this dish is the Spicy declaration is pure BS. The dish itself is far from spicy, like vanilla-ice-cream-far. The spicy component is actually a decoration on the edge of the bowl lip. If you actually want spicy you have to tell them to make their "spicy" dish SPICY. Ridiculous, and makes me want to pay my bill in Monopoly Money in protest to the false advertising. BUT! Now I know. And now you know. I still think it's stupid and it pisses me off to even think about it. HOWEVER! When I say there is "exceptional service and concern for your RA experience", it's over this Ain't-spicy situation. I spoke to the manager about my very non-spicy "Spicy Chicken Teriyaki Udon". He explained their design of the dish with its artful perimeter sinusoidal fancification of my bowl lip with "spicy" sauce. Sigh. I countered with: "that Sine wave of red stuff ain't spicy either, and the whole Kit & Caboodle is a misrepresentation of the signature description of the dish." I could see he'd been through this customer frustration before. Dude's not evil. He didn't design the menu. He offered to take the order off my bill. And he advised me how to order it in the future to suit my preference and get the desired result from the kitchen. I appreciated his approach to my concerns and waived off his offer to pay for the dish. I count the whole experience as a positive outcome. I wish I could remember the manager's name. Dude knows customer service. We liked him. I also get Crunchy Shrimp Tempura Roll. That's actual quite tasty. End of story. Oh, if you have even been seated on the RA patio and an Explorer or Camry has rolled very slowly by with the driver yelling, "RrrrrrrrRAAAAAAH!" at the top of his lungs... Yeah, that's me. Usually with my daughter following club basketball practice. Been doing it at least 5 years. Is it mature? Of course not. Does it give me joy? Hell yeah. Will I stop? Of course not. But the frequency has slowed as my daughter is off in college. But spring break is comin' baby and Imma tunin' up my voice for a truly prodigeous "RrrrrrrrRAAAAAAH!" There was nothing good about this place. The food was below average at best. The sake list was horrible and cheap. The table had sticky spots on it that didn't come off. The service was poor. The server used his middle finger to point out things on the menu, effectively flipping me off. He put another table's dirty dishes on our table while he poured us water. So gross. read more

Happy hour with my really, really girlfriend. Shiso Naughty but I'm so good :) I decided to go outside my realm and try a Samurai Cowby. After one, I needed a good ride out of there! Happy hour specials are really decent for your money's worth (STAR). It starts early (STAR) and has a good selection of sushi, apps and tapas to choose from (prices $2-$7). Get bang for your buck here, yelpers! Service was okay but borderline mediocre. I guess since they have cheap happy hour, they figure cheap tips are in order. Quelle dommage. I tip well for empty plates being cleared and a consistent glass full of alcohol people :) They've got a great patio for those months when Arizona is known for its wonderful weather. However, the freeway noise can drowned out conversation as its proximity is mere steps from an exit ramp (THUS THE LACK OF ADDITIONAL STARS). read more

Ok, so, the food isn't "the best" (I've had sushi in San Francisco, Honolulu, Manhattan, Seattle, L.A., San Diego, Miami, Boston, basically anywhere where you expect great fresh sushi) That being said, it's good for the value. Really "great" sushi is expensive! Anybody expecting that should not come to Ra, and/or give it a bad review because of that. People come to Ra for the GREAT Happy Hour and the fun/young/hip atmosphere. I give all that 4 stars. One of the BEST tofu apps I've EVER had. (if you do try that app, make sure to ask for lots of the little crunchies on top, and extra eel sauce on the side, those are the best parts, and sometimes they put too little) The tofu is cooked firm on the outside and creamy on the inside, so good! The veg tempura is good too, and at about $3 appiece, you CAN'T beat it! Still the BEST Vegas rolls I've had anywhere! I wouldn't really come here off of Happy Hour, but that is because I am broke. However I would really like to try some of the menu items I've never had. (I've had regular menu items, and they were good too) The patio is nice, especially with the great weather we have here, but I wish they had a smoking patio. One thing that I've read on other reviews that is absolutely true = you will want to sit on the patio, unless you don't want to hear your friends, since the music is WAY too loud inside. (but it's sometimes loud outside too!) That would be cool for a Fri/Sat late night, but they blast the music even on weekdays starting at the 3 o'clock Happy Hour! I've read some knocks on the waitresses. I've never really had a bad experience with them. Ra does it right like every bar/restaurant should do and hires young attractive women. Overall good experience. I had sake and another table mate had sake sangria, both were tasty. We ordered tapas style, shared and chatted about everything. We ordered nigiri, and all was fresh tasting. They carry tamari which is great for me and my gf needs. Ordered edamame, great starter. Our tapas consisted of: hand rolled sushi, seaweed salad, nigiri, edamame, and Spring rolls. Our waitress was helpful, but it was really busy. Will come again. read more

Not sure what it is about this location but half the time I take my family here we get a server who insists on not writing the order down. Every time they don't, they forget our main course. We order a 16 oz cracking fried rice (main course for my wife AND toddler to share) and they forget the crackin fried rice every time. It's the third time now that they've forgotten, and every time it happens we wait 25 minutes after ordering (we receive and finish eating everything else) to mention something to the server and every time the server pretends that it's still cooking even though we know they forget to put the order in... rice and chicken doesn't take 30 minutes to make at Ra because anytime we order it with a server who has a notepad, it's brought out to us within 10 minutes. Really just disappointed at the 'need' to take an order without writing it down. I got to eat alone while my son and wife sat there and waited 30 minutes with no food. My wife requested that they just take it off once we reminded the server of our main course and her and my son left the restaurant hungry. The right thing the server should have done is give us the rice to go on the house and not watch a kid and mother not eat dinner because she forgot to put the order in. We have been going to Ra for 10 years and honestly after this experience we don't see a reason to go back after the way we were treated. read more
