It's fine that this is not my local bar. After the second visit, I am sure that I can easily live without the Pubski Pub and vice versa. We both tried. Hopefully there won't be any hard feelings after my updated review. Who cares about my opinion, especially since it looks like I'm one of the few who didn't have a good experience at this place. On both of the Fridays we visited, the Pubski Pub was packed with customers. For me, the best thing was being part of such a vibrant crowd. I knew it was mostly about loyal people who visited regularly, probably since the place was known as the Anchor Inn. The two Polish flags hanging in the windows are probably also remnants of the previous owners. On our second visit, I just wanted to sample their 'pierogi'. We ordered from the 'Polish Favorites' section of the menu. I chose 'Three Pierogi' -- cheese, potato and sauerkraut ($10). My partner decided to have their signature 'Pubski Burger'. When it comes to traditional Polish cuisine, my bar is quite high. Imagine that I am that "Polish Babcia" who goes to restaurants to try Polish food in Buffalo, NY ;). After forty-five (?!) minutes, our food arrived. Not only was the wait time ridiculous, but they also managed to mess up my order. In the end, I was able to try three types of pierogi. The cheese 'pierogi' were surprisingly on the sweet side. It should be served with sweet cream, melted butter and sugar. The sauerkraut 'pierogi' had an unpleasant aftertaste. Also, the filling was too crunchy, and way too buttery. It simply wasn't prepared long enough, with no attention to details. The potato 'pierogi' were boring. Everything was greasy, covered with wrongly chopped onion that wasn't caramelized properly. The dough wasn't bad, but there was just too much of it. Either way, when it comes to 'pierogi', the "bigger is better" approach doesn't work well. We thought the signature 'Pubski Burger' would have a wow factor, but no. It was just a boiled or lightly cooked meat patty made of fresh sausage not smoked, charred, or grilled. It was a good Costanza roll and was topped with sauerkraut and Swiss cheese. Was there anything like Krupnik mustard? I truly don't know. I have the impression that no one really cares about the quality of the meals served. The "Pubski Pub', very likely, had a solid jump start with a great chef, but he must be long gone by now. P. S. I'm not a regular at any bar. read more

My first time. It does have the feel of a place of loyalists and regulars. I am a search eater. I will go anywhere, anytime. I admit I can feel eyes pierce if you are not a regular. Changed it up and went somewhere that we have not been to to try a local fish fry for Lent. The Pubski Pub has a large bar area and a roomy dining area adjacent to the bar. We were seated right away upon arrival, and the place was busy for a usual Friday out. Ordered drinks and food, well drinks and a beer battered fish fry and a lemon pepper broiled fish fry. The server asked if we wanted the full or half portion, so we ordered the full. Took about an hour for the food to come out, but we were in no hurry and being as busy as it was, didn't expect to be quick. When the food came out, the full portion was actually two pieces of fish! If we had known that, we would have both ordered the half portion. All the salads were home-made from what we could tell. The beer battered was light and crispy, and the broiled was moist and tender. The rye bread was so fresh that it was soft. Made me think this may have been freshly baked as well. So I would recommend d coming in with a healthy appetite or plan on taking leftovers home! read more

Haven't been to Pubski Pub in a while. Use to come here a lot. This will most likely be my last time. They have raised their menu prices quite a bit. I got a rueben sandwich which I have had here a lot and always loved. Well...not this time. They used to make very good ones but this one was burned on both sides. Can you see the black on it? The bread was quite hard. The corned beef was dry and I have had their macaroni salad before and what I got today was definitely not homemade. Had that disgusting, thin fake mayo that is even worse than Miracle Whip!! Barely any chopped veggies in it and very bland... absolutely no flavor. No more for me. read more

This was formerly the Anchor Inn and new ownership did a wonderful job with the renovations. It is clean with plenty of tables, seating and bar space. More than plenty of televisions, great place and atmosphere to watch sports. Covid protocols are followed with sanitizer available and dividers at the bar when needed. The menu is unique and there is something for everyone. It is clear the kitchen is putting in a lot of effort in their dishes. Plenty of custom sauces, flavors for desserts, ice cream & cheesecake made in house, all while maintaining reasonable prices. The Polish inspired dishes definitely pass the test, and they would have to in this area! Normally we would skip the run of the mill desserts, but had to try the homemade items. Very glad we did as they were excellent. All the staff we encountered could not be more friendly and it's clear they are all experienced. They are very knowledgeable about the menu and answered any questions we had. Even when it was busier at the bar, you won't have to wait long for the next round. Good beer selection also. I would highly recommend Pubski Pub if you are looking for a quick bomber sandwich and a $2 Genny Draft or if you want to get a few courses and try some unique items from a new Buffalo bar that knows their local clientele. My husband and I walk by this restaurant everyday! And it's always busy so Friday night after our walk we decided to have dinner! We had French onion soup with lots of provolone cheese usually it's served with mozzarella cheese ( which is a milder cheese ) I loved it with provolone cheese !!! Wrote before about Pubski will add again , they have some great specials during the week ... but on Fridays as most fish serving places get there early ... after 4:30 very very noisy and busy in back room due to the drinkers in the bar , which is to be expected from a corner bar ... unless the fish changed from 4 months ago not the best , the beer batter was more like a panko ... and fried too long ... Maybe it was just from a different cook .. will not go there on Fridays any more , but during the week very happy with their specials ... My friend wanted to come here for her birthday she loves it here. I use a wheelchair and I called and asked if they were accessible and they said yes, when I got there they have a steep ramp in the back but they had a 6 inch step that my wheelchair couldn't go over so I had to leave and miss my friends birthday dinner. This is the place to go for a Friday Fish Fry! The servings are HUGE. A large is easily enough for 2 people, although I have been known to eat both pieces myself. The beer batter is perfectly crispy and not too thick so you can still taste the fish. We call ahead and pick-up and have never had an issue when it comes to having our food ready. I live a short walk away from Pubski Pub but never made a point to grab a drink or meal here. All of that changed on a cool, but comfy, Friday night in April. In short, I was very happy with my experience and have a new go-to fish fry spot! I walked in around 6pm on a Friday as a group of four and was immediately surprised with how packed and busy it was! We put a name on the wait list for a table with the hostess and grabbed a table near the bar to sit and have a drink while we waited. Where we were sitting, the music was a tad bit too loud and made it difficult to hold a conversation but once we were seated at a table in the dining section, that problem went away, thankfully. The hostess did a nice job coming over and letting us know she didn't forget about us and worked hard to get us seated as soon as possible, overall, very friendly and conscientious. It took about 45 minutes or so to get a table, which again, for a Friday night, during Lent, was pretty fair. Once we were seated, we had more than enough time to review the menu and decide what we wanted, which for me, was an easy choice. It took our waitress about 15 minutes I'd say to make it over to our table and grab our drink and food orders. There were a few TVs on playing the Sabres game and you could still hear the music, though not nearly as loud as it was in the bar area. After I'd say about 25-30 minutes or so, our food was brought to the table. Overall, I was surprised about how big the inside was to Pubski Pub - you wouldn't think it'd be this big judging from the exterior. For my dinner, I ordered their Beer Battered Fish Fry. It came with fries, macaroni salad, potato salad, coleslaw, and a hearty slice of rye bread with butter, along with the usual cup of tartar sauce and a lemon wedge to squeeze. The piece of fish was plenty big and prepared perfectly - hot, flaky, and tender inside with a little crisp from the beer batter and not overly fishy tasting/smelling (sometimes a fish fry can smell and taste a bit strong) nor greasy. The fish was soft enough to cut with only a fork. The fries were the right amount of crispy, were large crinkle-cut, and tasted fresh. I have to say, their coleslaw was the sleeper hit of this meal - it was not watery and did not have a strong vinegar flavor. The texture and flavor were excellent and to be honest, probably some of the best coleslaw I've ever had. Honestly, I was impressed with all of the sides that came with my meal. Honestly, I never think about the sides but Pubski Pub's macaroni salad, potato salad, and coleslaw set a new bar, for me at least. The slice of rye bread has a unique flavor that paired well with the meal and was a good way to clean up the plate. The portions were excellent and I thought for about $16, I got a delicious and filling meal. Our waitress did a nice job checking in on us to make sure we were never thirsty and to clear our plates when we were done. I never felt rushed or uncomfortable the entire evening. It did take a while for the food to come out, but that wasn't her fault, it was crazy busy in there. I'm really glad I finally made it out to Pubski Pub! It was a great experience to go with some family and friends and have a few drinks and a good meal to wrap up a busy work week. I definitely felt some good neighborhood bar vibes here. For a filthy fish fry - this is a great spot. My English husband lovesss a good fish and chips and he said this one is the closest thing to home that he's tasted in Buffalo (so far). First off - it is MASSIVE. If I had gotten the fish fry too, I would've gotten myself the half sized order. Instead I just scavenged bites off his plate. The mac salad was tasty too and complimented the fish well. He ordered the classic beer battered fish fry, but there is also a panko option. I got the beef on weck and I'll be honest, I was hoping for a more pink roast beef, as it looks on the website, but it was pretty dark and didn't have that fresh beef on weck flavor I was looking for. It was not a bad sandwich, just not what I wanted. That said, the onion straws were a TREAT - nice and crispy and super thin. YUM. I love Polish food, so I was very excited when I discovered the Polish Garbage Plate on the menu... My first trip here, I had the polish sausage, potatoes and braised purple cabbage over mac & cheese. My second trip, I went a little healthier and had it over vegetables. It was better the first time than the second; but, it wasn't because of the base I chose... the toppings were less flavorful the second time. I would go back to try it a third time and see how it turns out the third go round. As for dessert, i would recommend you try their homemade ice cream. I tried the berry habanero which is not an option I have seen anywhere else. The ice cream is a different texture than normal ice cream... Stopped in on Ash Wednesday and purposely waited until after the dinner rush and the place was dead. I was surprised because it's new and a lot of people were mentioning trying it out. We started with the hot pepper dip and it was very good, one of the better ones I have had and loved that they served it with little pieces of a crunchy bread. I got the fish breaded style and was disappointed they couldn't add Cajun seasoning but either way it was very good! The sides were lacking though.. there wasn't a lot of it (the picture makes it look like large sides but it wasn't) and also the flavor just wasn't anything special. The place itself is nothing fancy and is a hole in the wall bar vibe that is trying hard to be a step up because they added some blue neon lights around but it doesn't work. I am doing this review on my main reason for ordering from Pubski tonight- FISH FRY! This was just a magical experience. From the macaroni choice in their pasta salad to their delicious tartar sauce, I enjoyed every bit. The fish was cooked beautifully and still crispy when it got to me (they use a pizza box style to go box!). The fries were fresh cut and also A+. This fish fry is DEFINITELY worth the price and I'd pay even more for it honestly. (I also ordered mozzarella sticks and they forgot the marinara sauce but I refuse to take a star off for that because my fish fry was so amazing). We went to Pubskis for the first time yesterday (Good Friday) around 3 & the place was very crowded. We put our names on the list, had about 40 min wait to be seated so enjoyed libations while waiting. Fast forward to the food: Polish Platter was excellent, no microwaved food on it! Hot & delicious. Hole in the wall bar opened this year. Owned by a volunteer fireman Matthew Burdzy who used to manage Nickel Creek Cafe. He brought in head chef Pat Koch who ran WTF chef meal prep. I came with a bunch of other Volunteer fireman one evening and had a very good time! The staff were very nice and Burdzy was a great host. Bar is divided into two sections, one side with plenty of seating and is a little quieter if your focus is dining. The other side is mainly the bar with the focus more on music, darts and alchy. Didn't get to try the food but seeing the signage for trivia night, looking forward to coming back. We had a great dinner and a great time here tonight. Understand this is a casual neighborhood place, full of the regular working guy kinda crowd. They do have a nice selection of craft beers as well as regular Genny and a shot of BV if you want. Our waitress was very attentive and kept us in beverages until we were ready to order. There were four of us and we split the Ahi tuna which was done medium rare with a very spicy red cabbage, delicious. also some seared scallops and shrimp that came on a cream sauce. The sauce was just OK but the seafood was perfectly seared. Three of us had the half fish fry which was simply enormous. The scallop salad was nicely done with pickled onions that were outstanding and the were perfectly cooked. Most of the menu here focuses on Polish cuisine. But whoever is in the kitchen seems to care about the food and things are paired well with simple items like a Krupnik mustard or pierogi quesadillas. There is a fairly large bar room and a good size dining room. There is also a patio, although most people out there seem to be just hanging out and enjoying a smoke. All food looked to be of good quality. It was pretty busy and everybody seemed very satisfied. I'll definitely be back for the golabki soup! Pricing was very reasonable on both food and beverage. I had come across the menu for Pubski's Pub while searching for great burgers in Buffalo. While perusing the menu, I did not find the burgers interesting, but I was struck by the concept of trying to put a modern twist on some Polish classics. My wife and mother-in-law are Polish, so I was grateful to have them join me here for dinner to try out this interesting menu. Pubski's Pub is the old Anchor Inn. The décor can be described as a corner bar with some delightful flamingo decorations that playfully highlight the culture of Cheektowaga. The main room off the bar also has a stage that allows for entertainment. While we were there, they were setting up for DJ Trivia Night on the stage. I want to come back to join in the fun of this event sometime based on the enthusiasm of the patrons. The main dining area was nearly empty when we arrived. Our server was prompt in getting our drink order. Overall, I liked our server, but I wish she had a stronger grasp of the menu (which will be explained more when I discuss food). After asking some questions about the menu, we placed our order and awaited the food. I started the meal with the Krakow Chowder. It was delicious. The chowder had a nice ratio of potato, vegetables and some delicious sausage intermixed a flavorful creamy broth. The cabbage added an elevated element over your typical creamy soups (like clam chowder). The entrees were hit and miss. The menu had an entrée called Smoked Polish Sausage Garbage Plate. Having grown up in Rochester, I found this option to be fascinating. However, the menu does not clearly describe what is in the dish. I asked the server, and her response was simply "Polish Stuff". Knowing how a Garbage Plate is made, I felt I had a pretty good idea - but for those that are not familiar with Garbage Plates, I could not imagine them ordering this, especially if the server cannot tell them what is on the dish. All that said - it was delicious! Sausage and sweet & sour cabbage served over hand cut fries and fried potatoes covered in a meat sauce. The cabbage was fantastic on this garbage plate. The meat sauce was not the cumin-spiced sauce you find on traditional Rochester plates - and that is a good thing because it allows the spiciness of the sausage to shine rather then compete with it. My only criticism were the hand-cut fries. They are truly hand-cut, but they were hard and cold, like they were sitting for a long time before they were used in this entrée. My wife ordered the Pubski Beef Stew. The menu only has "served over Kluski Noodles" in the description on the menu. My wife loves Kluski noodles, so she was drawn to this pairing. She was very disappointed to have received the stew served over a spiral noodle with a large glob of sour cream on top of it. She ate some of the stew, but did not care for the noodles. She felt they did not pair with stew. Sour cream does not go with stew - otherwise it is a stroganoff. Overall she was very disappointed. When the server came back to our table and noticed that the stew was hardly touched, she asked my wife why. When my wife gave her reasons, the server shrugged and just said, "yeah, we ran out of Kluski", took her plate and left it at that. Overall, I liked this restaurant and would like to try some of the other items on their menu - especially during a DJ Trivia Night. However, I have to criticize them for having an incomplete menu and a staff that does not address things like when a restaurant is out of something and is modifying a dish that you are ordering. This made my wife not want to go back there, but I am hoping to convince her to give it another try. I truly appreciate when a restaurant tries to give us something different. I truly hope that Pubski's can someday live up to its potential. read more

Came here with a group of 6 people on a Wednesday. The bar was packed, but there were open tables in the dining area. It was clean, had all necessary signage for COVID, tables were spaced and staff were wearing masks. Our service, Shelby, was just lovely and friendly, even though she seemed to have too many tables for one person. We ordered drinks and received them rather quickly from another server, but it took some time for us to get our food order in. Two ordered the French dip beef on weck, one the Deluxe dip beef, one the Polish sausage bomber and one a single order of wings. Two people ordered appetizers, a cup of Golabki soup and the Roasted banana pepper dip. It did seem like quite a long time for just the apps to come out, but was told they were very good and flavorful. Our entrees took a bit longer, but we were chatting away, so didn't seem so bad. Everything tasted amazing once we got it, and was nice and hot. Overall we had a lovely time and great meal, only downside was the time it took to order and receive the food.
