Heading to our first Corn festival we realized we were hungrier for something more substantial than festival food. So we checked on Yelp and found Schunks. And folks were we so happy we did. As mentioned in many reviews Schunks is, well, remote. But unless you're a local It's a nice drive in the countryside. We're from Derby so we enjoyed it. Upon arrival it looked outside about what you'd expect for the location. There's adequate parking even if it is kinda rustic. They weren't busy at around 3:30pm. We entered by what turned out to be the bar door and were warmly greeted, so we sat at the bar with a few folks. Got some tasty drinks and began studying the nice menu. Our intent was something simple and fast. We weren't expecting what happened next. I chose a sandwich and my wife a burger. I happened to be talking to my wife about the dinner menu and the steaks and Prime Rib on the menu. The bartender overheard me and said "oh if you can wait a few minutes the Prime Rib will be coming fresh out of the oven." Increased heartbeats, sitting up straight, mouths beginning to salivate, broad smiles coming across our faces as we gleamed into each other's eyes. You see my wife and I are very, very different in our culinary preferences. We've been that way for 27 years. We simply don't generally have the same palette on most things. However Prime Rib is probably the most favorite of our common food loves. So you can just imagine the unspoken conversation we had about what to order, ha! We both got the Prime Rib of course I'm a MR she's a Med and loves an end cut which she knew she would most likely be able to get this early. Fresh hot baked potatoes and veg, with au jus, horseradish and all the fixin's. Woohoo! When our order came out man oh man was it amazing. We ate and drank and chatted with the bartender, the owner, many of the regulars and all in all it was a fabulous time. The only downside was when we were finisheda we realized there was no way we would be going to the Corn festival. (The pics included are actually of our second visit or maybe our 3rd)

Fun and fabulous! Easy parking, casual atmosphere, great service in Eden NY! Try the steaks (mashed potatoes and gravy), fried cheese curds, peanut butter pie and cheesecake. Reasonable prices, call for reservations.

Friendly staff. This is a hole in the wall in the middle of no where. It's full of older gentlemen at the bar area and families eating in the other area. Boy can they cook! Big portions and good prices. Nice cuts of juicy meat cooked well. Deff a good bartender :)

Strip steak, mashed potatoes, glazed sweet potato fries

Excellent food!! The strip steak was amazing, such good flavor. The sweet potato fries were glazed with honey and cinnamon which were also very good! Will definitely be back soon!

    Clam Chowder (cup) SO GOOD!!!

YES! YES! YES! This place is the bomb.com! Just outside Hamburg, NY in Eden on a side country road is this hidden gem. Serving up one of the absolute best steaks I have ever experienced. Along with some fantastic sides. The Porterhouse has that char flavor you only get from a seasoned grill. So juicy and delicious. First bite knocks you off your chair and these sides alone are worth the trip. Sweet potato fries anywhere else rarely have a crunch to them, these do. Super good. Got the honey on the side. Clam chowder was full of veggies and chunks of meat with great flavor. A bit on the salty side, but no real complaints. Potato salad and macaroni salad were both made just like grandmothers have been making in kitchens all across America. You can taste there is no store bought, cheap factory made stuff here. Superb! Their peanut butter pie didn't get its picture taken because within seconds, three forks were digging into it. Whoa! Just whoa! You HAVE to try it. Save room. (Or don't and just stuff your face!) Seriously guys, check this place out! You will NOT be disappointed. A+ food A+ servers A+ everything! A hole in the wall kinda joint serving up top notch food.

The first time we visited and the fabulous mashed potatoes that they served! Please bring these back schunk's!

We found out about this country dinning jem a few months back at a Yelp elite event. The first visit was an A+ five star for food taste/quality and quantity. I went with the Saturday Prime rib special it was tasty and a good size in portion. What blew me away was the Mashed potatoes they were by far the best mashed potatoes I ever had. We told friends and family how good they are. We went back this past weekend. I started with the clam chowder which was not good at all it might as well of been celery chowder as the bowl was full of it! The prime rib beef was not as good as last time. Now the kicker completely different mashed potatoes! The first time they were the creamiest smoothest I ever had with great taste. This weekend they were very dry, no flavor. Take a look at my pictures and the difference in looks alone on the potatoes. I asked our server if the potatoes were the same and she said yes. Then I showed her the difference in the pictures and she said oh yeah they are really different they must of changed. They must of been made by a different person. I see a sign looking for a cook so they must of had a change in the kitchen. I hope they correct the issues and bring back our first experience. Not sure we will return anytime soon!

Fabulous food. Fun atmosphere. My favorite is the loaded tots. The prime rib, steak and shrimp, and burger were top notch.

Average corner bar crowd in there. Not the friendliest bartender at times. Food is decent and well priced.

First of all let me say this place is decorated beautifully. It looks like something concocted from a sweet daydream of a book lover. There are all kind of books and stained glass details which are beautiful. It also happens to have some pretty tasty cocktails which is a plus. Their menu is not updated on any of their pages so I can't remember what I ordered. It was a cocktail that mixed crisp, dry white wine, some kind of spirit and club soda. It was refreshing, interesting and light yet had just enough flavor to make it unique. The service was good. There were 2 bartenders that night who were helpful, attentive and friendly. There are a few tables with umbrellas outdoors in the front. A bar and some tables on the first floor inside and a metal spiral staircase which has a few small tables on the 2nd floor. Def not a great place for groups. Try and come at an odd time to get a seat.

In many ways, going to Couzins reminded us of visiting family -- they may be a bit dysfunctional, but they mean well. Special thanks to follower Scott Waite for the recommendation. Location: 2.5 / 5 Walking in felt a little like being the last to show up to the family reunion. The regulars confusingly studied us like we were distant "Couzins" whose name they forgot. The bartender (aka Aunt Carol), clearly surprised to have visitors, directed us to grab a table from the storage/dining area and await further instruction. Presentation: 3 / 5 While waiting for our wings, Uncle Carl from the kitchen came out and brought us a stack of non-descript paper products, which we thought were for garbage, but it turned out those would be our plates. Otherwise nothing special or offensive in the way these wings were presented. Meat: 3.5 / 5 Some flats were not cut well and had some exposed tips (i.e. the "hand" part of the chicken wing, typically reserved for Grandma's stock pot) which is not ideal but also not unusual. Cook: 8.5 / 10 These ate pretty good. Even the slippery-looking ones were cooked decently. Like when dad runs the grill -- the burgers may not be the best, but you know it's not the cook's fault. Medium Wing: 11.5 / 15 Not *bad* but under-flavored. We believe they made the common mistake of using too much butter (just like your mother-in-law) which doesn't add spice or memorability, just tolerability. Specialty Flavors: 7.5 / 10 - Hot Wings: Highlight of the night... like a hug from mom - Garlic Parm: Frankly, a sloppy mess... like uncle Jim - Spicy Maple: More sweet than hot... like your brother's girlfriend - Bourbon BBQ: Dry but not in a bad way and definitely different from all the rest... maybe adopted It was nice to visit but we need to get going. See you at the next wedding/funeral! Couzins Overall: 36.5 / 50

Normally, I don't mind waiting, but when it goes that far over the estimate, I felt it was worth mentioning. Once the younger host stepped away, I spoke to the man who looked like the owner or manager. I explained the situation, and he immediately made it right. He offered us drinks to make up for the wait -- I ordered my favorite, an Old Fashioned, and my wife got one as well. Not only were the drinks on the house, but we were also seated right away. The service after that was fantastic. Our food came out quickly, and everything was delicious. The breading on the chicken was excellent, and I especially loved the South Towns Chicken -- a Nashville-style dish with a nice kick and spicy coleslaw. Highly recommended! Despite the rocky start, the staff more than made up for it. The manager or owner handled everything with professionalism and kindness, and that level of service really stood out. I highly recommend 1812 Tavern -- it's a wonderful place with great food and even better people. I'm glad to see it doing so well and hope it continues to be a success for many years to come
