So am I ignorant or what, I somehow overlooked and pretty much avoided a Restaurant that's been serving Great quality Food for the last 11 Years. The craziest part about it is that Winfield's Pub is literally just 10 minutes from my House. A conveniently small place that packs big Bold Flavors. Like as you are driving down Ridge Road towards the main Lackawanna area. A place that if you want to enjoy, you'd have to park in front of it or park on the Side Streets of the neighborhood across from it and walk over. After trying out their Food at a Stillwater Farm Dinner consisting or Birria Tacos and Sausage stuffed Chicken Breast. To me that was a nice welcoming Card telling me to come right away instead of wasting more time ignoring the Place. You walk up 3 Steps and in you are greeted by the Owner's wife Sherryl, the Owner and the Head of Winfield's (Tab Daulton) is running the show making sure food gets pumped out of their Small Kitchen. While their son Thomas is at the Bar making Cocktails of the highest Quality with some of the most unique names that I've ever heard. My 1st visit was enjoying a Birthday Dinner with loved ones in the center of the Restaurant. While going over the menu, I had my 1st Cocktail called The Ghostwriter in a tall cylindrical glass that had Gin, Herbal Liqueur, Coconut, Lime, Lemongrass Syrup & Dill. Sweet and Herbaceous. Next up was some Fresh made Focaccia Bread studded with Rosemary, Garlic, Tomatoes and Zucchini that was so Warm and Flavorful like it just came right out the Oven. You know I like to drink Beer and cook with it too, I couldn't help but get myself a cup of their Beer Cheese soup with Bratwurst and Housemade Croutons. Every single Spoonful I took was Rich with a hint of Spicy heat at the end. Next up was a plate off Duck Confit Poutine with Goat Cheese (I opted for that instead of Cheese Curds). You might look at it and see a big globby mess but what I saw and what I ate was pure Gluttonous Heaven. French Fries, bits of Rich and Tender Duck Meat and mild and Tangy Cheese which equaled a comforting Bite. Next was another Cocktail I got called the Dirty Harry (named after one of Clint Eastwood's best-known roles). Another drink that hit hard consisting of Pineapple, Doctor Bird Rum, Boomsa Herbal Liquor and Banana Shrub Jam. While waiting for my main course, I tried some of Nathan's BBQ Pork Belly Burnt Ends. Who doesn't like tender Pieces of Meat with the outside bring Crispy while the Meat inside just melts away on your Tongue. For our Entrees, everyone enjoyed something different like Nathan and Brianna having Seared Chicken with Vegetables, Mike enjoying a Burger, Rick just getting a few Appetizers, Grandma Carol eating Fish Tacos, Jimmy and Kathy enjoying a Steak. While I got myself Seared Scallops over Sweet Corn Risotto with Tarragon. This looked to me and ate like a Summer Dish, why on earth was it on the Menu during close to Fall/Winter, I don't know. But I'll say this, I loved every bite, you get Sweetness from both the Seafood and the Corn with the Tarragon at the end giving it a light hit of Licorice. Thomas kindly gave me a Complimentary Drink while waiting for Dessert called the Legislation #2. It had Rye Whiskey, Dry Vermouth, Orange Cognac and Acidic Phosphate. While it had all those Ingredients, it was a simple looking Drink with a Jurassic sized Ice Cube in it. But I will say this, this drink packed one heck of a Potent Punch. To finish off the Meal, I got myself a big slice of Guinness Chocolate Cake. One of my favorite Beers has been Transformed into a Dessert. It had such a Deep chocolate Flavor with richness from the frosting packed in between each layer. I walked over and personally thank Tab and his Crew for the great Food that night. The only issue we had was waiting to get our Checks, but other than that everything went great. Another one to cross off my list, another restaurant that I will no longer Ignore. Hostess got us a table without a reservation (even though it wasn't busy at all), but she made it seem like she was doing us a favor. Place was a typical bar. Visited Winfield's Pub on a Friday night. My husband chose the chicken pot pie and I had the fish fry which is only served on Fridays. My husband enjoyed the pot pie but said mine was better. He felt that it was missing some spices. I was served two very nice sized pieces of beer battered cod, French fries and cole slaw. The fish was cooked to a nice golden brown, the cod was very flaky and moist with a side of French fries and cole slaw. The meal itself was very good. Here's my but. They make a home made tartar sauce and that is all that is stated on the menu. My issue is that the tartar sauce was made with something a bit spicy, possibly a Cajun spice. I'm not a big Cajun fan. Sometimes, I just want something creamy and rich without a kick. Our server was very friendly and helpful. We'll definitely go again. read more

We came here on a Saturday evening without reservations and luckily were able to be seated since the dinner rush hadn't arrived. We ordered a few of the specials for the day as well as a few staples on the menu. The chicken pot pie was a good portion for a single meal with a flaky pastry crust. The burger was okay but the tomato jam in lieu of tomatoes wasn't for me since the sweetness seemed to overpower the burger. The staff was friendly and made us feel at home. read more

We went with another friend couple and introduced them to Winfield's. They seemed to love it, which I'm so glad. It is always nerve racking bringing someone else into a space you love and hoping they also appreciate it as much as you do. This past week was my second time at Winfield's and it didn't disappoint! Winfield's offers a variety of food and drinks. We came with a group of friends for some drinks and dinner. We started off with a few appetizers which were very tasty! I really enjoyed the grilled cheese bites appetizer that also came with a side of of tomato soup to dip the grilled cheese bites in - a perfect appetizer to share. For my first drink I got the RX Queen which was so tasty and well crafted. Nowadays it is hard to find good cocktails in Buffalo and Winfield's definitely fits the bill for unique and well crafted cocktails. Onto dinner - I went with the lab burger which was so tasty and came with a large side of fries. Our server was also super friendly and was very attentive. You might spend an entire hour deciding what to order because everything on the menu is so alluring. Meanwhile, you'll see various dishes shooting out of the kitchen, making you constantly second-guess your choice and consider the next tempting option. In addition to the best poutine (hands down), I ended up ordering a veggie burger, which is highly unusual for me. But I just knew it would be amazing at a place like this. As I write this review, I'm enjoying the cold remains, and it's still delicious. We also tried the cocktails. I ordered a complex seven-ingredient drink that no other place in Buffalo could craft so thoughtfully and execute so perfectly. I was very, very impressed. The bar seats are extremely comfortable, the patrons were very friendly, and for a hot summer day, this place was much cooler than any of the last ten spots I've visited in the city! This is not a place for those who don't appreciate the hard work and passion behind the scenes. You will have leftovers because the portions are generous. Winfield's is a small neighborhood bar/restaurant with no frills decor. Food is delicious and we appreciate the specials that change seasonally. We especially enjoy the duck poutine and Friday fish fry. Specialty drinks from the bar are always amazing; the bartenders are true mixologists. Everything about this place is fantastic. Service, food, atmosphere. Very chill place you are able to relax with great food and drinks and feel extremely comfortable. I've bee here several times, and I've never been disappointed. Mostly everything is house made, from the condiments, to the sides. They have a full bar, with a mixologist, and he loves every second he's making a drink. There is a very small parking lot in the back of restaurant, but I don't bother to park there. Delicious! We were at a bar in the area, and one of the staff worked here as well and we took her advice to visit here, which was dead on! It has a small parking lot in the back, and there is some street parking around if you can find it. The back parking lot has a weird little turn in - so be on the lookout for that if you want to park there. There is an entrance in the back to the location and we walked in through there and up to seating at the bar. The main entrance with the hostess is actually around the front. We ran into the same server we had at the other location and she was kind enough to help us out once again. I strongly recommend the lamb burger. It was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. The fries were well made and tasty! We decided on the chocolate cake dessert which came with fresh fruit and chocolate drizzle on top. It was a smaller portion, but really good! If you just want a sweet fix, you could share. If you are a cake lover, order two. :) Staff was friendly and it felt very 'local' and like a part of the neighborhood. Went here for the 1st time tonight for my birthday. It was crowded and loud but the service was great everyone was very nice. Bring a blanket because it was freezing in there. For a appetizer we got the poutine fries which was delicious and authentic with bbq pork, gravy and melted cheese curds. I got the mushroom ravioli which tasted good but was very gritty like someone forgot that you have to wash mushrooms before you cook them. It was like a bit of sand in each bite which was unfortunate because the flavors were very good. My husband got the chicken pot pie that I took a bite of and it was good but not a rich thick filling like you expect in a pot pie more like a chicken soup with a baked topping. The poutine fries was the best part of the meal. With that said they also have a great drink menu and bar. I would definitely go back for drinks and appetizers. read more

This was my 3rd visit to WInfields over the past 4 years. Superior service and delicious food! We took advantage of them being open for lunch on a Friday during Lent, as they are usually only open in the evening. The Local Restaurant Week menu was also enticing - for 2 handhelds (fish fry sandwich, cheeseburger, lamb burger, or fried chicken sandwich) it was only $20.19. These sandwiches/burgers were $12/13 on the menu, so the offerings for restaurant week were a good deal. There were entrees also as part of the deal; however, only the handhelds were available for lunch. My mom went for the cheeseburger. It had some unbeatable toppings - caramelized onions and a tomato bacon jam. The patty itself was cooked to a perfect juicy medium (as requested). And the roll was a house-made potato bun. It wasn't bulky, but held up well to burger and toppings, as it was buttered and toasted. She was very happy with her choice and added just a bit of salt to help the flavors pop! For my handheld, I went with the fried chicken sandwich. It was a pretty hefty piece of chicken; although it was fried, it didn't leave you with a greasy feeling. The chicken itself didn't have much flavor - a bit bland; however, the toppings added some body. The jalapeño slaw wasn't too spicy, it rather gave it a nice kick. And the garlic mayo was super tasty. I could have dipped fries in it. Overall, I'm glad I tried the fried chicken sandwich, but next time I would probably go back for a burger - they just do burgers so well here. For the sides, we both got Kiki's warm potato salad. It's made with velveeta cheese. The portion was pretty darn big; about a cup. I enjoyed it. Both my mom and I picked out the green olives, since we don't care for them. The server, who I believe is one of the owners, told us that next time we could order it without the olives. How nice is that? And I loved the pickled veggies that were served on the side - quick pickled cucumbers, carrots, and red onions. So vinegary and delicious! If you are looking for a place that takes simple dishes and elevates them, I highly recommend Winfields. Oh and if you like to drink, their cocktail menu looks great. it also seems like they have homemade chips and fries to snack on at the bar. First - this place is too FANTASTIC to hide behind a rundown exterior facade so that 1) you don't even know it's there and 2) what parking lot? Ps - how would someone in a wheelchair come here? The outside stairs are high as the Mayan temples and it's not comfortable for anyone! Imagine coming out of here with too many drinks - definitely taking a tumble. With all that said, yes, there is nothing outside that calls for a customer to come in. I don't know if they travel on word of mouth, but I have driven past here over a year and never realized it's a restaurant. All that said.....weekends I definitely recommend a reservation. Somehow this place has made its name and the food upholds that. Made our reservation on OPENTABLE (bonus) and they were ready for us. Our table was ready on a Friday evening at 8 and we had a great waitress! Quick service, attentive and detailed to specific requests. I had the Friday fish fry. One of the best fish fry I've ever had. I'm from Boston and this is a Buffalo NY restaurant. They had Cod fillets and the batter was perfect. I split one dinner with someone and it was plenty of food. The service was spread a little thin due to how busy they were. What a great find! Oddly enough, this place was recommended by the waiter at one of the other restaurants we visited on this trip, because she works at both locations. A tiny little pub that is really easy to drive past, and extremely small parking lot in the back, from the outside it doesn't look like much. However, on the inside it is much larger, with plenty of seating both at regular tables and the bar. Despite going on a Saturday night, it was surprisingly slow, evidenced by all the extra wait staff with little to do. They were also shocked at how slow it was, having expected a much busier crowd. This was fortunate for us, as we had a fantastic service, and got to chat with a lot of them. Their suspicion was that it was because it was a game night for the Buffalo bills, and they aren't really known for being a sports bar. First things first, the bar has free bowls of house-made kettle chips, which are fried and salted. They are very, very good. The food menu is somewhat limited, but what they have they make very well. I tried their fried chicken sandwich, and my wife tried the lamb burger, both of which we really enjoyed. We also tried their chocolate cake for dessert. The portion on that was somewhat small, however like everything else it was very well prepared and tasted great. Unlike the menu, the beverage offerings are more varied. They've got a decent-sized selection of beers, ciders, wines, and liquors, as well as some house cocktails. many of the beers and ciders they stock are from local breweries, which is great as well for trying the local flavor. Overall this was a great experience. For people living in the area, as well as for anybody else who may be traveling there, I highly recommend checking them out. read more

If you're looking for friendly staff, you will find it at Winfields. They are not cheap cheap, but their meals are worth it if you can swing it. My one qualm is that the online menu isn't super clear about what does and doesn't come with sides, but that's so unimportant to me compared to how good the food is that I still give them 5 stars. I personally love their salads, their pork chops, and the Mac n cheese is delicious. I advise actually eating in house because they do have a very unique cocktail menu. Think the creativeness of Ballyhoo or Misuta Chows, and they're delicious. read more

Wow, so happy we decided to try this gem based on other reviews! We stopped in on a Friday late afternoon for an early dinner. We started out with a couple of cocktails, I enjoyed the Mountain Jam and my hubby had a Mule....both were delicious! Normally we don't do appetizers if we are doing dinner but decided to give the Grilled cheese bites a try. My husband does not like or eat tomato soup but he did tonight! The grilled little triangles of bread with havarti cheese and bacon were absolutely terrific dipped into the soup. They were toasted perfectly and the bacon/cheese was an amazing combination. I ordered the chicken breast and veggies and found myself grinning ear to ear between each bite! It was delicious! My husband ordered the hanger steak and fries which was pretty good too but I'm telling you, that chicken was unbelievably good. When Deanna, our server asked if we wanted dessert, I could not believe my husband said yes. We usually don't do dessert either but he was so tempted. The lemon creme brulee with blueberries was so light and just the right size portion that it completed the perfect dinner. From the moment we walked in the door we felt welcome. Service was outstanding and efficient. More servers should watch them work here. The team appeared to work very well together. They could not have made the experience any better. Outstanding!! We enjoyed our dinner so much we made reservations for the brunch they did two days later on Sunday. (Note: they do these occasionally so check with them for dates) Sheryl was a joy to work with when I had to call her to add additional guests to our reservation. My husband had an interview in Lackawanna today, and I tagged along because it was across from the botanical gardens. Afterwards, we stopped here for lunch. The inside is much more upscale than the outside appears, but you can be casual or dressy. It's the food and drinks that really take Winfield's up a few notches from your standard pub. First off, they actually serve local wines. They're an hour away from the Niagara Wine Trail but I saw several Arrowhead wines, at least one Leonard Oaks and possibly something else local, so that made me happy. As for me, I had to try a craft cocktail, the Mystic Decade. It's topped with an edible violet or viola, prominently features lavender liquor and makes me think of cheesecake (so much so that I'll be scouring Pinterest for lavender cheesecake recipes when I'm done here.) My husband had the Winfield Pub burger. I had the plain burger and added cheddar cheese and garlic aioli. We both ordered our burgers medium rare, and they came out pink and juicy and wonderful. Best burger I've had in years. The hop fries were just okay, but that burger. Wow. My husband had a Caesar salad with his burger that he really enjoyed. The staff is amazing and the food is even better if that is possible! All the food is made from scratch with no frozen anywhere.
