My daughter and I went here for breakfast Saturday. The service was very good, and the food is delicious. I like my food hot, and this diner serves it hot. The vegetable omelette is stuffed with fresh vegetables. You get a lot of potatoes, and neither one of us could eat all of them. I do not usually drink coffee, but decided to try a cup. Really doesn't look like much from outside, street parking only, not a ton of tables, maybe 10 booths and counter seating. I imagine this place gets slammed for breakfast, but they get your food on the table pretty quickly. I stopped in for lunch with my daughter, who was very happy to order a stack of lunch French Toast and a root beer. I had a mushroom Swiss burger that was huge, and came with a heap of fries that I couldn't finish. Our server didn't ask how I wanted the burger cooked, and it came pretty medium well, but it was still good. I love the décor, 50's themed, jukebox and all. The service was really good too. Pay at the counter, they accept cards but your bill shows the cash total and a higher card total. read more

We've surprisingly struggled for the last few years to did a breakfast restaurant to keep going to. We were down to 1 and it is a bit of a drive, so we didn't go out as often as we would have liked. We discovered the diner as we were eating lunch nearby and decided to give it a try the next day. We're so happy we did. We had a very good experience and were so intrigued by the wonderful classic old diner motif. But best of all was the service and the meal. As it was later on a rainy day we thought it would be slow but it was almost full. We were greeted and directed to a clean booth immediately and the menu's were dropped off as we were shedding our damp jackets. We couldn't help but be tickled by the classic diner feel of the place. (See photos). The menu is very classic, straight forward and easy choose from. Our server came over greeted us warmly answered our questions and we ordered quickly. We got our drinks promptly and as we noticed and chuckled about different aspects of the decor we also noticed as few things. The restaurant was very clean. The customers coming and going were obviously mostly regulars from the easy banter and joking around we observed. It was such a fun and welcoming atmosphere. The food came out quickly, hot and fresh. I was so happy and hungry I forgot to take any pics. But trust me there were no disappointments. We got refills promptly and friendly service and conversation throughout our meal. All in all we had a good meal and a good time. This place is legit and we're so happy to have found it. We were frankly struggling to find good breakfast options the last few years. read more

I always say great coffee can keep a diner alive. This was a great little breakfast spot. Very good coffee very good breakfast. Pancakes were a little heavier than normal and I like that. It wasn't like eating air. Corn beef and hash was homemade however, corn beef was a little dry. But still very tasty. I also very much enjoyed my waitresses recommendations. This was the best omelette I've had in ages. I ordered the western omelette, it was cooked thoroughly, but not dry, and all of the fillings were diced up and tasty. The home fries were excellent and toast nice and crispy. This is an old-school diner with a 50s theme and oldies on the jukebox. Service was quick and friendly. I don't know how many times I've driven past Woodlawn Diner over the years and this was the first time I stopped in. I'm glad I did, we've moved to Hamburg recently and I've been looking for my go-to breakfast. I think I've found it. This diner was recently featured on the news regarding their reopening and recent renovations. Of course, my father and I needed to check it out . They were quite busy in the tiny diner, but there were a couple seats at the counter , so we grabbed them . A server (in training ) greeted us with menus, we both accepted her offer of coffee to start . My father chose a basic breakfast special (2 eggs over easy, sausage, home fries and rye toast ) and I went with my standard Eggs Benedict . The food didn't take too long to come out . All was good but didn't blow me away . What did impress me was the 50s themed decor , they even had a jukebox! Checking out was a bit of a hassle as the same guy making milkshakes (we went for brunch , so anything goes) was also the cashier . We had to wait while he finished up , but admittedly he was quite apologetic about it . Overall, the service was not too bad considering they just had a reopening /renovation. Came in here for breakfast yesterday, a very late breakfast. My husband has come in here before while working a job in south buffalo and we stopped in on a whim since he enjoyed it the first time. It's a seat yourself style diner, maybe 15 booths/tables, on the smaller side. I like the jukeboxes on the tables, I'm not sure if they really play music but they were definitely cool to look at, setting the vibe. The waitress came right over and took our drink orders and warned us the fryers were not turned on. I love the kind of small, family owned, local diner that doesn't always turn the fryers on. We didn't mind at all since we were in the market for breakfast. I opted for the three cheese omelette, which was a steal at $6.99 considering it came with home fries and toast as well. Definite bang for my buck! I didn't think it was possible but it ALMOST was too cheesy for me. ALMOST. It was right at the line of pure cheese heaven. It was stuffed with cheeses and had cheese on top. I love cheese, I was not offended. The sourdough toast was really hitting the spot for me, the cook joked it was almost too thick to fit in the toaster. A dream come true! When it came time to pay, it was $18 and some change for both us which is a great price for two. I didn't realize in advance that they didn't take cards. I've been wanting to stop in here for some time, wish we'd stopped sooner! Came in and was taken back to an old-school dinner setup, was charmed almost as hard as my 13-month old daughter can a waitress. My wife and elder daughter had the chicken breast sandwich, I the 1/2 lb bacon cheeseburger and having forgotten a fresh jar of baby food, the baby had a bowl of applesauce and tried her first grilled cheese. In a word or two, flawless delight! Perfect chicken, juicy burger w/ crisp bacon and the baby destroyed (as only a baby who likes to eat table food can) the grilled cheese. I have a soft spot in my heart for restaurants who just do something well, ignore trends and do good business sans b.s. So, I am one of those folks who respect a good diner. Woodlawn is such a place. Purveyors of comfort food, good food done well. I went to the most recent installment of their Sunday night poetry series. You had a great communal meal, then some writers topped you off with some verse. They pack em in so my friend and shared a table with another couple. You had your choice, there was something for the vegetarians and something for the carnivores. Being the latter, I opted for the pork roast plate, featuring the aforementioned pork roast, mashed potatoes (they can fix anything), stuffing, gravy, veggies and garlic toast. It was like giving your stomach a warm hug. Pleasant staff was making sure everybody was well fed and did so in such a way, that I ate my vegetables to make sure they didn't report back to mom. Going back for the next poetry event, and maybe sometime to catch a breakfast, you know it would be done right, I can tell by the mini jukebox at our table. read more

After calling on the phone about the hrs, I've asked about the dinner specials and what they have to offer. The gentleman stated,"oh yeah, we have blah & blah for dinner specials and only accept cash". So, we're off from Riverside to go! BIG MISTAKE! I have been to poetry nights here which I recommend highly for good food, warm hospitality, and very entertaining and accomplished poetry readings. The other day a friend and I dropped in just before three p.m., not noticing the sign that they close at three. We were greeted warmly and served a delicious home- made beef stew with a large fluffy biscuit and homemade pie. The owners did not hurry us, even though we were oblivious to the time. If you want a feeling of being back in the diner of your youth where you spent some of your happiest hours, this is the place. Congratulations to the owners for carrying on the fine tradition.
