They have to wait for the computer to do it after you have given your credit card. He was rude when i asked for pro rate amount. Acts like he only deals with low lifes. I can't read the entire sentence on the questionnaire- but I do know there was an olive oil spill outside of building A puddle of it and the gallon of olive was left beside the puddle with a plastic bag over it. I called the front office as it was today 10/10 @ approx. 1:00pm my first day, moving my things into storage and asked if someone could clean up this accident waiting to happen. A gentleman that works at Public Storage showed up with a large gray trash bin & paper towels. Probably not the best method to use to clean up the oil spill that is now completely drenched the middle elevator and leaving trail marks - by the time I came back down the elevator from unloading my first round of items - the Public Storage worker was gone- I am sure you can see it in the cameras- very dangerous and the employee had a NO CAN DO & NO WON'T DO ATTITUDE - besides the lack of consideration for others safety and also leaving the gallon of oil with plastic bag behind and not placing it in the big gray trash bin the no can do employee and my crew's shoes s well as mine having been oil soaked and then transferred to our cars - let's just say I appreciate the self serve part because I couldn't reach anyone by telephone all weekend either!! read more

I recently moved to Public Storage from another facility due to excessive rate increases and vermin infestation. I can't believe how superior Public Storage is to other facilities! My move-in was effortless as they have ample off-loading space for moving trucks, cars, etc. and plenty of moving dolly's. The grounds including the storage spaces are spotless. I rarely do this but i felt it was necessary so here we go. I have been using PS for years but this was one of the best experiences ever. The property was clean and easy to move around making it easy to manage my belongings at a rather fast pace. They have buggies throughout the entrance walk ways for your convenience and laders upstairs making things much easier for you to make your move. Jared and Megan were the NICEST, FRIENDLIEST, most HELPFUL and accommodating people I could imagine working anywhere. Storage is probably storage, but not only is the facility clean, well organized and easy to traverse for a moving truck, having that support from the staff is pretty much priceless in todays impersonal world. I've always hated Public Storage... I've done whatever I can to avoid using them because they have no concept of customer service. But this takes the cake. I moved from LA to SF and knew it would be a while before I got my own place, so most of my stuff is stored in a PS unit it Van Nuys. I got a call the other day that they are renovating the storage units and I need to move out by March 31... 6 weeks. I don't live there anymore and don't have a vehicle there. I'm going to need to fly to LA, rent a truck, hire people to fill it up, drive it up to SF and then hire people to unload it into my new storage space... PS gave me absolutely no consideration for my inconvenience. Never, never, never, never again... avoid them like the plague! read more

I will never use a public storage again. My climate controlled, indoor unit was filled with moths (carpet moths I believe) and the hallway leading to my unit had these moths all over it. I'd encourage everyone to think twice before renting here. My clothes and furniture were ruined and had to be thrown out. Since there were dead moths in the hallway and surrounding common areas, I believe that the facility was or should have been aware. I tried giving Public Storage the benefit of the doubt to see if they could help remedy the situation, but it seems the company couldn't care less. Employees were unwilling to help and failed to followup multiple times. Attached pictures show dead moths from the hallway and surrounding units along with one picture of the shared wall inside my unit. From my understanding, moths have a short life but the larvae and eggs can live for a long time and this is what causes damage and destruction. read more

Made me think I was ordering a 5' x 4' unit and was given attic space instead. Was never advertised as that on the site and even showed the room I purchased as an actual room. This is an update to the review offered below, in May: Today we moved our stuff out of our Public Storage unit, and it was a breeze. I called the manager, Brie, in advance, to inform her we'd be closing out our unit. She told me that I needed to get everything out by the last day of the month, in order to avoid being charged another month's rent. But, we had our movers scheduled for a Monday, August 1st, so she told me to come in a day early, and she would try to 'help me out.' I arrived on Sunday July 31st, and Brie was good for her word. She over-rode the PS system to charge us for just one day. We really appreciated that! Saved us over $300. The facility is pretty well-run, and the managers here are excellent. I would just say on the constructive criticism side that they have only 4 hand carts and they are frequently all in use. On another occasion, there was one available, but the key to the padlock to release the cart had been dropped down the elevator shaft by a customer the night before. It would also be helpful if they maintained a trash can near the entrance to the units... We have a complicated, multi-stage move because we're having construction done on our house. We opened the PS unit because we needed a place quickly to store some items. Subsequently, we found a mover that has its own local storage facility. We had them pick up all the items we had at PS, and drive them over to their facility, which will cost two-thirds less than what Public Storage was charging us. Granted, we rented a 10x20 sized unit from PS, intending to fill it up. The new storage place has modules that are smaller, but just add more modules as you need them. They were very accurate in assessing how much space our items would take up. They will move the rest of our household goods when the time comes to vacate the house, and also bring a few items over to our temporary apartment, so all-in-all, more bang for the buck. That said, I have only good things to say about the Van Nuys Public Storage. Thanks, Brie. May 10, 2016 Thank you, Nick and Brie for your help in getting us set up with our storage unit today. Having to move items out of my parents' house and stash several pieces of furniture while our own home is being renovated wasn't something I was looking forward to coordinating. But Nick let me through the process smoothly, explaining every detail, showing me the unit we thought we needed which was big, but will soon be filled, providing my access code and getting me signed up. We'll deliver our stuff in the next couple of days, so will know more about the experience after that. But have nothing to say but two thumbs up so far! Bree and Jared were incredibly helpful, honest and clear from the first call to after we rented and completed our move-in. They called and checked up on us to see if we needed anything, and were extremely courteous and warm to us. Our unit was clean and much larger than we expected (high ceilings) and we were able to fit a 4 bedroom 3,500 ft house into a 10x25' with room to spare. I have never been so upset with a business in my life!! DO NOT RENT A UNIT HRRE OR ANY PUBLIC STORAGE OVER THE PHONE!! BATE &SWITCH scam! And because when I arrived and they were closing and I had no time to take my belongings any where else, I signed a contract (my fault) because they had me by the "'&$@#"s! Didn't have a backup plan. It went from freeing rent to almost $200 dollars!!! And and when I called public storage corporate office in the morning, they said basically ha ha you signed the contract your fault no big deal they said there was absolutely nothing they can do because I signed the contract so be aware of this place total rip off and zero concern i'm so disappointed in the time that I could definitely use the money I was taken SO REPEAT BE LEARY They seem to get off on my "misfortune". I despise this place. I fell behind in the rent because I lost my job. I tried to make arrangements to pay it up but they wouldn't hear of it and said I had to pay the entire balance immediately. They then sold all my stuff. Granted, this was a while back (but I haven't forgotten) so I don't know if the management has changed at this location. All I can say to those people is...karma's a b**ch. And because of that I will tell anyone not to rent from Public Storage. read more

This place is super shady. They raise the rates regularly. They have inconsistent policies. The staff are incredibly rude. There are plenty of other storage areas in the area. Don't waste your money on this terrible business. You are guaranteed to have a horrific experience. read more
