This public storage is not located in the best area, just outside there are many homeless people with trailer parked on the street, however the storage itself is safe and somehow maintained. The company I work for has a unit where we store things we don't use constantly so I had the occasion to come a couple of times and I don't really like it here... I used the restroom just when they opened at 9.30 and it was disgusting, meaning they don't often clean it. The lights inside sometimes go off and it takes a little bit for them to come back which makes it inconvenient if you are moving stuff in the dark... not a huge fan.... Customer service was absolutely terrible - I out of the country for a month and with the time zone difference it meant I could only reach customer service 1am-8am my time. Every time I called it would go to voice mail (does nobody answer the phone?) and it ended up being a game of phone tag. I got a really good deal on a 5X12 storage in Van Nuys, got there before 6, loaded everything up in a cart and couldn't get access to the elevator, my people were inside waiting for me to come back. I walked out to the office outside the gate, I looked at my watch that said 6:03. Nobody in the office and I couldn't get back in. I tried my access code and it gave me an 800 number to call. I finally got someone who told me, after Six, everything shuts down. NOBODY told me that at the beginning. I was lead to believe I had access and an access code 24/7, apparently that's not true. At 6pm everything shuts down, even the front gate you use to leave the property. You have to call Customer Service to open the gate for you so you can leave, WTHell. All I got was I'm so sorry your going thru this. So if you rented a truck, and you have a large load, get to PS at least an hour ahead of time so you don't have to rent a truck for a second day with this policy, had I know , I would have gone somewhere else!!!!!!! Positives,...people were really nice the facility is clean and cool. read more

I don't recommend this place whatsoever think twice before getting locked in with a good rate after four months and they will raise their prices without a notice. There is never any carts available. Bathrooms never work. They charge a lot of money and can't even maintain and service the restrooms. Please don't waste your money on this. With the help of a lovely worker named Liz I was able to rent a bigger unit in no time and was refunded immediately for the other storage unit I no longer needed. Wish I could rate 0 stars. Do NOT go to this storage unit. No carts to move your stuff with. We rented a "5x10" that was maybe 20 feet square. Random people doing personal construction work with roaring circular saws on site, terrible employees wouldn't even kick him out when that's against the rules. We were charged for a full month after moving out on the first of the month as stated in our contract. No offer to prorate even, so they got a full month out of us that we're not even using the unit. Tried calling several times over the last few days for several issues. The $1 storage is only somewhat true, my actual price was around $70 including the lock, mandatory insurance, etc. I rented from 5/11 and now I'm being charged $98 before the month is up for the rental period starting from 6/1-6/30. This is before my initial issue that I've been calling for (being charged the $70 3x) has been solved because no one has been answering the phone. They have an after hours line that I've also tried to call that just no one answered. I sincerely regret renting from public storage and from this location. read more

Today I showed up to move into my storage unit. I was told I had to climb a ladder and lift boxes into the unit. It was high above another unit. If I was told this at the start I would NEVER have signed for the unit. I asked if they had another unit and they quoted me a price that was 4x more. I never even saw the unit and they refused to refund me the "Admin (Move in) Fee" even when I did not "move in". If you do not add a DISCLAIMER about ladder for someone with bad knees -- YOU NEED TO GIVE A REFUND. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau. read more

This place is the worst. The hours are inconvenient, the hours only honors Public Storage staff hours, not ours. Open during normal business hours and when you're done work, they are closed, gates are locked, you will not have any opportunity to go in. They are not opened to your convenience. Which leads to only availability is for you to go on weekend along with hundreds of others who are dealing with same issue. Flatbeds are never there or available. Constant traffic and congestion. When you run out of time, 5pm on Sunday, they lock you out and too bad if you left your storage opened and the staff leave without checking if anyone is locked inside. Horrible. And they raised my rent increasing $50 to my already monthly payment and it hasn't been a year for me, Ending my services there. DO NOT GO THERE!!!!! read more

Booking the storage location was easy to do online and I appreciated how they contacted me to follow up on the reservation. I was not completely sure what size unit I needed so I made an appointment to come on and check it out. Garcia was super nice and she explained everything in an easy to follow manner. After meeting with her I was confident in my choice of unit and she was able to assist me in completing my reservation. I stopped by this location (Oxnard St/Van Nuys) to see if they could help and the staff were super professional and super friendly. Totally helped me out and solved my issue! This place is poorly monitoring what goes on. One day I try to get into my bin and some guy had his stuff throughout the hall in my way. On several occasions there were people parking in a handicap spot, which I need to use. They were not permitted. Lastly, I tried to get a refund for one mattress cover charged on my credit card. They refused and said I needed the actual receipt. One more issue- when you give your drivers license in order to use a cart, they don't understand that they need to give you the one closest to the door in order to facilitate your getting it. That was #4 in the building I used, not the number one key. The number one cart is in the corner and hard to reach when the other carts are still in place. Why don't they know how this works best for customers? Don't they have cameras to see the customers who are disrupting your moves? They need to fix this!!!!!! And I don't like giving my license away, a money deposit would work better. Sorry for a long rant! read more

Public storage has a monopoly on storage that's for sure and they know it. You get a monthly rate at the start of your rental and then less than 3 months later it goes up by $15 and it continues to do that every few months. Of course they know you won't move you items out so they know they have you locked in. Their hours are also horrible at the van nuys location from 9-5:30 meaning you cant get there before or after work. They also have very few carts and when people are moving in they take them all leaving none for hours some time. I went to the front desk to ask for one and they just said sorry you'll have to wait for one as two moving trucks were in my area unloading. It is clean and well lit except the lights go off very quickly if no movement so it's hard to organizing units without feeling like you have to always walk back and forth. The company has very little respect for their customers or employees, only maximizing profit. They jacked up my rate $47 / month after 6 months (although I was able to extend that 3 months). I'd recommend Extra Space Storage instead - Lower prices and you can pay the original low rate in advance for 24 months. I wrote a letter to 4 different divisions of the company of Public Storage and no one ever responded. Nice storage place with very little integrity. I just got a storage unit yesterday and feel very safe at this location and excited about my unit! The staff is super friendly, I got a call right away confirming my reservation (make a reservation online with them for better prices, it's very simple) they texted me all of the information I needed making it easy to find and contact them. Matt showed me my unit and I ended up going with a larger unit which was no problem, he showed me right away and got me in and out of there efficiently and with a calm demeanor - he was very kind and helpful! The building is brand new that my unit is in, it feels safe and secure and I love Public Storage already and have only had my unit for less than 24 hrs! read more

Go someplace else! This place has no concept of customer service. Looks like an accountant bean counter has been tasked with creating new policy at PS. The monthly rent went up shortly after I started renting there (three months or so?) and then one month later they significantly reduced the access hours. Ok, let's see... raise the price and then reduce access time to bankers hours. No access before 9:00 or 9:30 or after 6:00pm. That's makes it nearly impossible for anyone with normal working hours to get in or out of there... and effectively defeats the purpose of having a storage unit. It takes a lot of nerve to charge more and offer less but that's Public Storage for you. Lastly, the weekend I wanted to move out fell on Saturday the 2nd and Sunday the 3rd day of the month. They won't pro-rate the rent for a few days or even a week into the next month. I'm required to pay for a whole months rent even though I only need three days into that month. Come on guys, take a minute and put yourself in your customers shoes. Unless your goal is to drive customers out and do something else with the property you might want to reconsider your "new policies". It will have be some other customers shoes because I'm taking my business elsewhere. read more

Began writing my review in late 2018, just discovered the draft. I was shafted multiple times at this location. The end result was them not letting me in to get my stuff and close out my account because I was 12 days late on a payment, though the contract stated you were not allowed entry after 15 days late. They claimed, "We can't deny you entry to your storage space, but we can deny you access to our facility (where my storage space was)." Shady stuff happening there. I've never in my life been treated with such belligerence. Oh, and I never got all my stuff back. Nothing worth monetary value, only sentimental - unfortunately. read more

Only options they gave me were either to wait 3 weeks for their locksmith to come and I would have to pay for an extra month or spend $120 to get my own locksmith. I can't read the entire sentence on the questionnaire- but I do know there was an olive oil spill outside of building A puddle of it and the gallon of olive was left beside the puddle with a plastic bag over it. I called the front office as it was today 10/10 @ approx. 1:00pm my first day, moving my things into storage and asked if someone could clean up this accident waiting to happen. A gentleman that works at Public Storage showed up with a large gray trash bin & paper towels. Probably not the best method to use to clean up the oil spill that is now completely drenched the middle elevator and leaving trail marks - by the time I came back down the elevator from unloading my first round of items - the Public Storage worker was gone- I am sure you can see it in the cameras- very dangerous and the employee had a NO CAN DO & NO WON'T DO ATTITUDE - besides the lack of consideration for others safety and also leaving the gallon of oil with plastic bag behind and not placing it in the big gray trash bin the no can do employee and my crew's shoes s well as mine having been oil soaked and then transferred to our cars - let's just say I appreciate the self serve part because I couldn't reach anyone by telephone all weekend either!! read more
