I got a 4' x 5' unit and it's enough for me. Introductory rate of $26/mo, for three months, then it goes up to $34. Move in cost roughly around $51. If rates remain $34 for at least a year I'll be happy. Employees are really kind and helpful! read more

Public Storage - Self Storage Near Me - Van Nuys, California

Don't do business with public storage, they make it impossible to speak with someone at the property and you have to fight through layers of AI and automated systems and call centers to try to get in touch with someone on site. Shitty company, store with local companies instead. read more

BUYER BEWARE - PREDATORY BUSINESS PRACTICE After nearly two years with Public Storage, I stopped auto-pay on Sept 30 and was vacated by Oct 1st. Now I'm receiving calls on Oct 2nd trying to *strong-arm* me into paying a full month's rent for an empty storage bin. After speaking with two people (names coming soon), it's clear they have been trained to mercilessly defend their stance and take your money. There is zero rhyme or reason, and the lack of compassion is disgusting. "If you don't pay, we're sending it to collections..." They want to squeeze you for every last dollar, even if it means paying $154 for an empty storage bin you are no longer using as of the first of the month. Besides that, a good "deal" gets you in the door and then it's price increase after price increase. Storage is dusty and has spiders. Short hours and lousy gate/elevator access. read more

Do not leave a drivers license and be careful about leaving a credit card. Manager leaves main room and locks it without notice.

Man, I have had it with Public Storage. Such predatorial, arbitrary price increases. I rented the unit for $137 per month a little under 3 years ago. And I get with inflation and cost increases that it wouldn't stay that way, there's no contract or anything. But every 3 to 6 months they raise the prices, knowing that it's still more expensive to move everything out and find another unit elsewhere. This latest increase now raises my rent to $418 per month! A 300% increase! I'm not paying, moving and never coming back. read more

I've had a storage unit here for 6 years. It started at about $150/per month. My bill for the unit is not $450/per month. I asked why it has gone up so much and they said "because you've been with us so long"...so they way they treat loyal customers is to increase your bill to ridiculous amounts while charging new customers 3 times less for the same size unit. Run far away from this company. Don't get stuck. They wait for you to comfortable in a storage unit, they know it's a total pain to move so they take advantage and suddenly you're paying $400+ per month to store some junk. This company is the worst when it comes to this scam. Go literally anywhere else for storage read more

Just wanted to give a shout out to the whole team. A nice improvement overall. Felt more welcoming than before.

Do not I repeat do not reserve your unit online if you ever want your money back. pointless storage takes advantage of people that never used a unit, meaning that once you agree that your first payment of reserving not RENTING, RESERVING they will STEAL your money. You pay to reserve it so they can STEAL YOUR MONEY if you have second thoughts. Never used the storage nor stepped on the property, but the reservation thieves just like the founding thieves of this country... that manager also also agrees to disagree that this is not theft... you go to collections if you report it to your bank. make this make sense. 0 stars read more

I had an amazing experience with this facility on Oxnard! Moving is stressful enough and I was very grateful to John who assisted me in transferring to a larger unit. He was very knowledgeable, understanding and went above and beyond! Thank you for all your help! read more

Friendly team nice service. Dave was very helpful. Will continue to use this storage unit

I reserved a space online. It was put into the name on the credit card by the computer. It is not under my name. They will not switch it out for us. Everyone is unresponsive and completely monotone. It's frightening. Like zombies. Will not let us change the name. We have to do the whole reservation over and then the price will have gone up over 200. We have a truck full of stuff. Completely unaccommodating. Thanks public storage! read more

Disappointed. During my visit to lease a unit, there were several units that had been robbed. I witnessed how dismissive and nonchalant the staff was. The unit tenant wasn't even called by the staff. I've been to the facility twice and each time, the customer service was poor. Staff leave you waiting while they work on the computer. No urgency and no lines. They want everything to be self-service. I'm not going lease a unit from Public Storage because after research, I've determined you get what you pay for. Other storage facilities that are independently-own and not publicly-traded seem to care about their customers. Competitors have better alarms and surveillance throughout. Insurance policies don't always cover claims. read more

The facility itself is clean, air-conditioned, and the staf were friendly and helpful. However -- the rent was raised by about $40 after the first four months, then another $40 four or five months later. It's such an exploitative practice! I was appalled that a company this big would engage in such an obvious bait and switch scheme. Don't ever use Public Storage. read more

Have rented a storage unit for 8 years. Great quality and service. Shout out to Dave for helping us. My only complaint is the cost that seems to go up too often. read more

To write a review about a storage facility is a first for me! I'm inspired to do so because of the amazing people that work there and the customer service and quality of service that I have gotten there has been unparalleled. The Maintenance Supervisor Jonathan is wonderful! He has always bent over backwards to help, fix any problems and even help load my vehicle when I lost my key there at the location one time. So a HUGE shout out and gratitude for Jonathan, who makes everybody's life so much more less stressful. I'd also like to give gratitude to the rest of the staff who are very kind and to their rate$, which I think are the lowest by far competitively. I do refer my friends there, and if you haven't checked this place out you really should! it's five all the way read more

Where to begin? II was a longtime customer of public storage in Van Nuys. One day I get a call from a manager named Mike telling me that they accidentally cut off my lock thinking that the storage was empty based on their records. Why would they think the storage was empty if it had a lock on it? I don't know but I never got a call to ask me. I went down to the storage facility a few days later to put a new lock and to replace the temporary lock. When I opened my unit, I noticed several items were missing worth around $1500. They said they didn't know what happened, but that I should file a complaint with the insurance. By the way, this is the insurance company public storage recommended. The insurance company put me through a lot of hoops, including filing a police report, getting photos of the missing items from my photo collection... filling up forms it, etc., etc. I submitted a claim, figuring that it would be easy. A year later. I got a letter from Sedgwick Insurance denying my claim. The reason given was that there was no forced entry and this was a liability of public storage under their policy. I paid for this insurance every month for 10 years. By then, I took it up with public storage and a new manager called me back after checking with their legal department. They responded that they were not responsible for anything and that it is not in their policy to remove anything out of the public storage. So, here's my story and beware. read more

I've used Public Storage for a few years now & so far this is my favorite location. This spot has 3 buildings, I recently switched from one building to the other & the customer service here is always on. I showed up last minute before closing one night to rent a new unit, Luke & Steven were super helpful & accommodating; they took the time to show me a few options, just to help me save some money on the rental. I highly recommend this location, ask for Luke or Steven! read more

Not just this location but this whole brand/corporation is a scam. Signed up for a unit I needed in a hurry, had it a couple months and out of nowhere they sent a notice that my rent would increase by $100 in 30 days. That was almost a 50% increase with months, in residential units you can only increase rent by 10% each year. And what's craziest is they did not change their rates, I assumed they had and then checked for a smaller unit and saw my unit was still available at $100 less. So if someone else signed up to rent the same unit tomorrow they'd get it at my initial rate. This was not an advertised introductory offer by the way. Not a get the first few months off for cheaper sort of situation, just a random rent hike for no reason other than greed. On top of that they make you sign a lease that you won't participate in a class action lawsuit against them, which is always a clear sign a company knows they deserve a class action lawsuit read more

I've used several Public Storage locations and this one is definitely one of the worst. . The only reason why I chose this one is because it was the cheapest for what I needed. The hours are terrible - they're only only open 9:30-6 during the week which makes it difficult if you work during the day, I'm stuck going there on the weekends. One time I left the premises after closing hours because I didn't realize they close at 5pm on the weekends and I got a text saying if I did that again they would cancel my storage. My rent was also doubled after a few months, nowhere on the website or rental agreement when I rented this space did it say it was any type of promotion or anything and then it would be doubling so soon. I also had a problem with my payment method and needed to switch to a different credit card so turned off my auto payment while I was getting that straightened out because I didn't want payment not to go through or be charged twice. The next day I get a call from the office asking why I turned my auto payment off and if I wanted to schedule a move out. Why so nosy about my payment methods? As long as I pay on time (which I always have) I should be able to pay however I want - auto pay or not!!! I didn't realize it would be such an issue if I switched my credit card. Also the app doesn't work with the elevators, I always have to type in my number. read more

José and most of his team (especially Jasmine) go above and beyond. They are kind, professional and incredibly helpful. I love that this storage facility (Oxnard/Sepulveda) is a bit of a hidden gem and the facility itself is impeccably clean! There is always a steady flow of traffic at this location which makes it feel a lot safer as compared to other facilities. I would have given this location 5 stars, but the only downside is that one of the managers named Liz is incredibly rude. She is unprofessional and condescending to customers (both over the phone and in person). Perhaps she was having a bad day, but she seems put out even when you ask her the simplest of questions. I would recommend asking for Jasmine when you go to this facility as she is kind, knowledgeable and always willing to help. read more

Final update. It took yelling on social media for someone to finally get this situated. I had to send an email myself to the collections company and they put a cease and desist on my account. I wanted a storage unit at an affordable rate. This was the only place around the valley and luckily it's only a few minute drive to where I live. Warning to anyone looking to rent a 5' x 4' unit this particular unit is attic space to which it requires going up steps. I don't mind it though as I don't have a lot of stuff but stuff I can't keep in my closet. This unit is very much the size of my closet just a foot longer. I was also very pleased with the service here. An employee named Jazmin helped and guide me through the place. She was over all amazing I cannot recommend the service here even more! UPDATE: Customer Service rep/Poperty Manager: ROCIO is a gem and extremely helpful. She is not useless and deserves a promotion. Customer service is complete shit and useless. Literally useless. They hang up on you, give you attitude, they do not answer the calls, it seems they love to increase the rent and then avoid answering your calls to discuss, so you are left paying it. Only way to get in contact with these incompetent individuals is to NOT pay the bill, and force their hand into calling you. But you will have to be okay with paying the $30 late fee. They also close at 6pm, so if you have a job it will be difficult to get down there on time to discuss in person. I suppose you can go during your time off on the weekend to discuss pricing with incompetent people, but you should not have to do this. EVERY TIME I AM THERE THEY ARE NOT WORKING, THERE ARE 3-4 OF THEM JUST SITTING THERE IN FRONT OF THEIR COMPUTERS, SO WE KNOW THEY ARE AVAILABLE. IF YOU ARE THERE TODAY, WALK IN, THEY ARENT BUSY. THEY KNOW WHEN TO IGNORE A CALL, SIMPLE AS THAT. PUBLIC STORAGE, PLEASE HIRE COMPETENT PEOPLE, ONES WHO ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT THE JOB THEY DO. USELESS read more

Do what you will with this info, I'm bias as I'm currently using the service and have had only headaches but I'm still using them so what's that say about me? Regardless it's been just about 2 years (in a week it'll be 2yrs) since starting a rental. Anyway, move in was painless and very cheap due to the $1 first month promo. However; it's not $1. I mean, is it ever just $1? You're forced into buying their lock which of course is nearly 4 times the cost of a lock from anywhere. there's another 1 time fee that's not apart of the monthly fee so hence you gotta pay it and after all that it's like $50 to start. Even more if you get the insurance they push. I understand the importance of insurance but when I'm basic homeless, jobless, and strapped for cash I'm putting my faith into the fact that this place should be on the up and up just by the simple fact that it's a business making money storing people's things and that's the professional experience they should have regardless and needing insurance to make sure the place that's in business of storing things is doing it's job of storing my things and I need to cover my ass in case that fails, really seems like it's negating the job it's in business for but I digress. So being jobless means no money but I'm able to get rent paid regardless, of course it's not on time sometimes and the first time it's not paid on time there's a late fee. Being that it's my first time I check if there could be a courtesy credit you know maybe since it's never happened before on my account and I have already been renting for at least 5 months by then so I figured it won't hurt to ask. It was like I asked for a free month because the agent was so bothered by my question and had such a condescending attitude like how could I ever expect something like that made me feel like I was less than. Plus it's always felt like that ever since, like I'm a nuisance for being a customer and it's a huge inconvenience to have to answer my questions and interact with my account. The feeling that I'm taking up space they need or something God awful. Nevermind I'm paying them to use an empty cube of space that they are in business to get paid to have but for some reason my cube needs to be empty and causing no ROI for them like they need to be in the red on their budget. I see online that "storage locations open 24hrs". there's no access until 930am and you gotta leave at 6pm, sometimes 5pm they close and right on the dot you're being kicked out, literally, by an employee screaming for everyone to leave. if you are inputting your code after their closing hours, they send an email threatening that you didn't leave on time and next time there could be a charge! finding time to get to go here becomes harder since they open after I start work and they close before I leave work. After 6 months, they raise the rent. Then after another 6 months another increase. Then another 6 months again. every 6 months they increase their cost. Mind you there's no mention of this during sign up but whatever. I get it, apartments do the same thing but at least they wait 12 months before doing it. So now it's been 24 months, 4 increases of the rent and the space I have is the cost of a unit triple the size I have. I'm paying almost double what I started off paying, and I'm able to see pricing online for units the same size costing much cheaper and units bigger than mine costing cheaper. Most other locations have better hours that work for their customers and not just for the employees, and a lot are 24hrs, and the cost is cheaper for the same size I have but I'm sure the price goes up after 6 months. They probably make more money on the first time customers and the one time fees than someone paying them every month. I'm not perfect, I've had payments go very late, just watch out for the late fees cause they can be just as much as the monthly fee and there's multiple fees they will charge during one month and even 1 day before auction is supposed to happen they charge a late fee. their late charge happens on a specific day of the month and they don't do auctions until the day after that. Plus they will telemarketer style call rooms blow up your phone from 8am to 8pm Mon to sun , every 30 min to 1hr when you're late. Regardless, I've made payment before auction happens but really think about what you're doing before getting a spot. I didn't plan on having these things happen of course not, you plan to pay every month right away but life doesn't work that way and especially when COVID was in full force and even when the world is getting normal, Murphy's law always takes over. read more

I started renting a 10'x10' space in August of 2020. At the time, the cost of rent was $ 182.00 FYI, This is what has transpired with rental fees in the following 36 months. 8-13-2020 - $ 182.00 2-4-2021 - $ 200.00 11-2-2021 - $ 221.00 8-2-2022 - $ 309.00 8-1-2023 - $ 365.00 *** I finally decided to give my notice to vacate. within hours, I got an approval (which I did not ask for) to reduce my cost to the current rate for the next three months. The facility is great, safe and clean. The service is helpful and courteous. You decide if this works for you. P.S. My luxury apartment in Warner center was $ 2.75.00 per square foot. S.N. read more

The whole rental started out on the wrong foot when I opened the account on New Year's Day 2023, to which I received various confirmation emails and text messages saying my unit was ready and available immediately, and to come and meet the manager to start my move-in. I loaded up my car and headed over, only to find a sign on the office saying they're closed for New Year's Day despite those several (presumably auto-generated) messages to the contrary. That was a bad omen off the top indicative of this company's poor communication. There was another occasion where I showed up at my unit, and the facility's gate was broken so that nobody could access their unit at all. After waiting for 30 minutes with no updates from the location, the employees finally told us they had no idea if or when someone was coming and that we should come back "another time." I stopped by again an hour later and still had no access, wasting the half day I'd taken off to access my unit. The biggest RED FLAG for Public Storage and their commitment to customer obfuscation was billing. When I signed up, I was given the option to select Auto Pay to lock in my rental rate for one year. Perhaps I misread, but that's what I thought the offer was. So when I got a rent raise six months in (and to be clear, Public Storage absolutely will raise your rent every THREE TO SIX MONTHS), I called my location and was told there was nothing she could do about it, but that someone from corporate would call me. Two weeks passed and no one reached out to me from corporate as promised; but suddenly my bill updated to my original rent; so I figured the issue had been settled. Three months after that, I got another notice saying my rent was going up yet again. I emailed to ask why that was after I thought we'd straightened things out through the year only three months prior. I received a phone call the next day, although I missed the call. I called back *60-seconds later* and was routed to another employee at the call center, who looked up my account and said that she couldn't help me, that the girl who called me the first time needed to call me back herself, and that the lady I was talking to would leave her a message to do so. That woman never called me back. I then tried emailing support@publicstorage.com AGAIN to follow-up after two weeks of no response. Yet again, my email went unanswered. And like I'm sure Public Storage hoped I would, I gave up and accepted their abuse/unjust rate hike. Of course, my rent went up again a few months later. That's three raises to rent in less than a year and a half. Now jump forward to moving out. I did my research and saw that I could give up to 60 days notice, and could schedule my move-out at any time. As I didn't know what my move looked like, that was perfect for me -- I'd finalize it once I knew. Easy enough right? So on Wednesday 5/1, when I realized I'd be moved out by the morning of 5/2, I put in my notice. An employee from my location then called to discuss the move-out. When I asked him how I'd receive my pro-rated rent for May, he told me that actually, Public Storage doesn't pro-rate, and confirmed they'd be stealing my entire month's rent despite only occupying my unit the first of the month; and given that info, that I could take my time with my move and leave things in my unit until the end of May. Once again, Public Storage was trying to rip me off. I calmly acknowledged that he was only an employee and none of my comments were directed at him personally and rather the predatory practices of Public Storage as a whole; informing him that purposely hiding information from customers to rip them off had been consistent with my previous experiences dealing with Public Storage, and that he was working for a criminal company that regularly avoids its customers and practices obfuscation in hopes that their customers get so frustrated they just give up and pay whatever Public Storage wants. I also let him know I'd make sure to thoroughly document my unit during move-out in the event Public Storage decided to try and pull any other surprise charges on me on top of stealing my month's rent. I got a phone call from the Regional Manager "Mike" a few hours later, presumably after hearing from the employee I spoke to. I missed his call, returned it about 45 minutes later, and as is consistent with every other time Public Storage attempted to call me, that message too went unreturned and unanswered. I completed my move out and Public Storage had my money, so they had no interest in being in touch with me -- but yet, that was their policy when I was an active and paying customer too. DO NOT USE PUBLIC STORAGE. read more
