The owner personally came to my home, inspected the area I wished to drop my box and where Pods had refused to drop, and the next day his driver came to my warehouse to drop off an empty container, waited while we loaded it which we had completed in under 30 minutes and then took my To Go Box to my home address where it sits now happily in my 75 foot long 1949 drive way by my garage:) The Driver could not have been more gracious, helpful and courteous. Just the day before the Pods driver had been disrespectful; pompous and uncooperative and thus I canceled service with them (they lost a 7 month service contract) and now happy as can be with To Go Box!:) There are many choices via these mobile storage boxes, as is I have tried three; Pack Rat tried to add on unmentioned delivery fees not listed on their website thus I canceled that; Pods practically impossible to communicate with by phone unless you want to wait 40+ minutes and then luck of the draw if the driver is professional and courteous or not and then lastly of the three To Go Box whom I love and will happily use until my work is done:) I cannot say enough positive things about this business and it's people.

If you want to be ripped off, use this company…read more I had packed most of my boxes but there were a few things in the garage. I had almost 200 boxes. I was busy finishing things up in the house. Had I known I would have to keep an eye on them, it would have saved me a lot of money. Furniture arrived damaged and, in the end, there were boxes missing. Tags were missing on some of the boxes and others were inventoried incorrectly. An antique chair had a leg broken off. Because the legs were delicate I had reinforced them with 1x2 pieces of wood. When they arrived one of the legs had been broken off and taped with packing tape. Most of the furniture I'd disassembled and wrapped in stretch wrap. A couple of pieces hadn't been wrapped in the stretch wrap and they used packing tape directly on the furniture. It took the finish off where the tape had been placed. A lot of the furniture had damage to the corners and sides. Because I was inside I hadn't noticed they had packed shelves, fully assembled, and put them on the truck not utilizing the space on the shelves (thus eating up a lot of room and I was being charged by the foot). I opened boxes that they had packed only to find very large boxes that were half full. Again, using up more space on the truck. When they got to my new apartment they claimed they could not pull the moving truck into the alley. I had seen a moving truck there a week earlier. This meant they had to move things from the moving truck to a smaller truck (an additional $1,100). It was the end of the move and the person who was in charge of the move hurridly had me sign the contract with Rhino. He was loosely explaining things to me as I signed. "Oh this is the standard count, this is an explanation of the delivery, etc". I was tired and, admittedly, signed them. So they're covered. I'm missing a box that contained a firesafe and various other paperwork. Luckily I'd packed most of the truly important and valuable stuff in my car for the move. Between work and the bulk of the boxes that were shipped I am just now realizing the items missing because it has taken me a few weeks to unpack. The guys on this end were hard workers and I really appreciated their effort. In the end, the move that was originally quoated $12K turned into better than $17K. Oh, and they only take cash or money orders.

I had been renting my storage unit for less than a month when it was broken into. The lock appeared to have been picked, and roughly half of the belongings in my unit were taken. I was out of town when it happened. I reported the break-in and LAPD came by to investigate. They were unable to determine exactly how the person got into the unit, other than the possibility that the lock had been picked. I also discovered that theft is common at these facilities. Unfortunately, my experience with Public Storage after the break-in was extremely disappointing. I received very little assistance from the facility staff. Their insurance also did not cover my loss. I later learned from the policy's fine print that theft resulting from a picked lock was excluded from coverage, which was exactly what appeared to have happened in my case. I was also surprised to learn that the facility's cameras do not cover the inside of the storage units, just the lobby. I repeatedly asked staff to review the available lobby footage, but each time I followed up, I was told they had not had time to go through it. I never received meaningful assistance or follow-up regarding the footage. The experience also made me realize how important it is to carefully understand what their insurance actually covers before storing anything of value there. In my case, I paid for coverage and still ended up absorbing thousands of dollars in losses. On top of that, my monthly rate was increased within a few months after I initially signed up under a promotional rate. Overall, don't rent here, If you do not want your property stolen.

Naturally I had no idea where to even begin or what to look for in a storage facility, but I looked around and SoCal Self Storage in Northridge seemed like it was decent so we gave them a shot. You can call them on the phone if you have any questions like we did before you rent a unit, or if you're confident in what you want/need you can rent online. I'm old-fashioned so I like to see what I'm getting into before paying for anything. We arranged to have a tour around the facility to check out a couple of different sized units. I'm extremely grateful they took the time to do this to help determine how big or small our unit should be - it really eased my worries and I got to see how well-maintained the facility is. Even the unit we chose was clean already! They were more than patient with all my dumb questions and made signing up a breeze. They offer inexpensive insurance if you want more peace of mind for your belongings, they have locks and moving boxes if you forget to bring your own, there's complimentary carts/dollies to use at the facility, there's plenty of on-site parking, there's security patrols after hours, the elevators and first floor hallways are accessed via code so it's even more secure, all units are individually alarmed and climate-controlled, and they even offer free water bottles in the main office if you're working up a sweat. Overall we've had the unit for months now and I'm very satisfied with SoCal Self Storage. If you need a storage unit, don't hesitate to give them a chance!
