I needed to get a storage unit for my parents who moved into the area. When I phoned them (I am in California). The gentleman I spoke to was very friendly and helpful. I rented a unit and stopped in the day before the move. Mobile app is great for getting in and out of gates. I could not find my unit and went back to the office. He was the only one in, but closed the office and guided me to the unit. He was very helpful and courteous. I think he was the owner. Great feeling to do business with someone who has skin in the game and cares. read more

Perla is great but the main gate keeps breaking (just doesn't open) so if I have To go in after hours or before the office is open I can never trust it... and I work a regular job so their office hours don't line up for me to be there. I called but there is no answering machine so the phone just told me to hang up. Also they got a new guy who I'm pretty sure is stoned 24/7 so he couldn't give me any information last time I called during office hours. And their big fix for the broken gate problem is leaving it open. Why bother having a gate if it's going to be open all night?! My price has been going up $20/month or more each year too. I guess they assume you won't want to move your stuff so you will be ok with paying a higher price. (After 3 years I'm paying $70/mo more than what I signed up for. That's not inflation... that's greed fueled by "gotcha") I'm gonna sell all my stuff or switch to another company. This is ridiculous Anyone want to buy some stuff? read more

This Sterling location just raised my rent $17/month, after lowering it last year to have me change my rating. They power washed and repainted the units causing water damage to several tables and personal items, half the units aren't numbered anymore and when I was here last week the entrance gate was not locked and the exit gate did not open so you had to backup and go around and go out the in, thank goodness no one was coming in! In 2 years the rent went up 4 times. Not reliable, not dependable, and no longer a good value. Time to move out! read more

RENTER BEWARE - PUBLIC STORAGE STERLING, VA ON GENTRY ROAD IS ADVERTISING "CLIMATE CONTROLLED" SELF-STORAGE. BESIDES MYSELF, THERE ARE 43 RENTERS OF UNITS IN THE D BUILDING WHO ARE UNAWARE THAT THERE IS NO WORKING AIR CONDITIONING AND THEY ARE PAYING FOR SERVICES THEY ARE NOT RECEIVING FROM PS. On 7/13/17, I used PS' website to see if a 10x15 sf unit on Gentry Rd in Sterling VA would be available on 7/14/17. I called that PS location to ensure that the unit I needed was on the first floor with a climate controlled HVAC system. The manager of the PS in McLean, VA ("Elizabeth") assured of the "internet pricing" when I came in to provide an application and deposit. On 7/14/17 @ 5:00pm, I arrived to Gentry Rd PS & "Elizabeth" took me to inspect my potential storage unit in the D BUILDING. She took me on "an indirect path" through buildings ostensibly to avoid the mere drops of rain that fell intermittently outside. We entered the D Building through a door located away from the air conditioning unit, as I later realized. I noticed the D Building was very hot inside and the air was still. I asked "Elizabeth" why it was so hot if it was a "climate controlled" building. She replied that PS intentionally sets thermostats at 85 degrees. I asked several follow-up questions leary that such a high temperature would be reasonable to achieve a "climate controlled" environment, and received vague, general responses from her. Being that my move was the next day and I needed a storage unit that day, I accepted her answers as truth, hesitantly signed an agreement and moved my goods into the unit on 7/15/17. After moving into the unit in the D Building, I realized it was too large, I called PS on Gentry Road on 7/17/2017, and spoke with "Michael" who informed me that there was a 10x10 sf unit just next to the bigger unit that I could move in to and PS would honor the online price. Later that day, we began to move my goods into the smaller unit, when we noticed the hallway was sweltering with heat and the air was humid and still. I went outside the D Building and saw the very small AC unit which was rusted through and not functioning. I went into the rental office and asked "Michael" about the very high temperature in the D Building and the dilapidated AC unit. He came with me to the D Building hall and informed me that the AC unit had not been working for the past 1.5 weeks. I became very upset, wondering why "Michael" would offer a unit in the D Building knowing there was no working AC unit when I specifically requested a "climate controlled" unit. Further, I became furious knowing that I asked the same question just 3 days earlier to "Elizabeth," the McLean PS leasing manager, (who was covering for the Sterling manager, Perla, who was out on medical leave), and dismissed my questions by outright lying about the high temperature in the D Building, knowing full well the AC unit was broken. I felt deceived and misled by these managers when I discovered from "Michael" that work orders were submitted in the past week to fix the AC unit (and not replace it with an adequately larger unit for the entire D Building). I demanded that "Michael" phone the District Manager, Sara Shiraci. Adding insult to injury, I was shocked that Shiraci ignored the fact that I was lied to, PS did not provide me a "climate controlled" unit, but instead insisted that I pay $30 more than the promised internet monthly price for rent. I abruptly ended the phone call with this incompetent District Manager, Shiraci. Consequently, I refused to sign the transfer agreement because the unit was not climate controlled, and the contract stated it was climate controlled and the price for the unit in the contract was $30 higher than the internet price. I was told by Michael that there were 43 other renters in this D building. 43 other renters assuming their personal belongings were stored in a "climate controlled" storage unit. These other renters should be notified that they are paying for services that are not being provided, and that their goods were subject to damages related to the lack of climate-control. The next day, before I flew out of the country to Singapore for a month, I called the Sterling PS office and left 2 detailed voice messages on 7/18/17 stating I was leaving the country and requested Shiraci to email me in order to resolve the issues of the D Hall not being "climate controlled," the rent amount, and demanded that PS move my belongings to a climate controlled unit on the Gentry Road PS property. I have not heard from Shiraci to date/time. On 7/21/17, I called PS Sterling Gentry Road from Singapore, and Perla (Rental Manager who is now back from leave) answered. She sounded concerned, validated my issues, and offered to get my goods moved to a climate controlled unit there, but first had to ask Shiraci. Perla assured me Shiraci would call me on 7/22/17. Shiraci has failed to call me to date. read more

Have several storage units at Gentry Drive. The facility is very clean and conveniently located. But the reason it is better than others I have used is because of the manager. Perla is just terrific. She makes the process of getting storage space set up seamless and easy. She follows up regularly to make sure your experience is going well and to see if there is anything else you need. Public Storage is lucky to have her as in this situation, customer service makes all the difference. Sure hope they appreciate her as not enough of that in this world. read more

I've used this specific facility twice now. The first time they started as another storage company and transitioned to Public Storage. The transition was very smooth. Facilities are always clean and there are always carts close by. The price was better than any competitor both times I signed up. Perla was very friendly and made sure I had everything I needed. The only real issue I've ever had was that the gate wouldn't open at the exit one day, but Perla let me out the other gate until she could get someone to work on it. read more

Perla is fantastic! She couldn't have been more welcoming. We only used the facility for a bit over a month (just needed it for a particular purpose) and opening and closing the unit couldn't have been easier. I do have to mention though, the lighting and the gates were spotty during our month. It may only be a coincidence, but all the lights outside did not work while we were there and the entrance gate only worked for one of the weeks we utilized the facility, which means the exit gate was open instead of a controlled entrance/exit. The customer service couldn't have been better...I'd just recommend the facility reflect its staff. read more

I rented a 10X10 unit in August 2014 for storing my Smart Car while I traveled to Europe for 5 weeks. The Smart car is only 9 feet long but when I arrived the unit appeared to be just short of 9 feet deep, so my car would not fit. Property manager Perla was very helpful in finding another unit that was over 9 feet long so the car would just fit. When I called Public storage for making the reservation I explained what I needed it for, so they promised me a unit that's 10 feet deep. Well those units really are not 10 feet deep. I checked it with a measuring tape. They're closer to 9 feet. I still give it 4 stars because of the low cost of the first month. read more
