In the course of 2 years, company decided to raise my agreed rental rate 3 times for up to 50% more than initially agreed. After confronting the manager, I was told this is out of their hands since corporate decides when and how much the rental increases occur. Instead of moving my business elsewhere, manager offered a smaller unit at a much lesser rate, taking into account that "rate will not increase for at least a year and even if it does, increase will be marginal". Trusting this company I decided to go ahead with the downgrade. To my surprise, less than 4 months later I receive ANOTHER RATE INCREASE NOTICE!! This time the increase would be for more than 50% starting next month. This increase like all the others happen for NO JUSTIFIABLE reason. As expressed by many others, this company has a long history of PREDATORY BILLING PRACTICES. They purposely wait for you to be settled with your storage to increase your rates, not by a marginal amount but increases of over 50% of your agreed rental agreement. I appealed this with their superiors in writing but they failed to even respond. They were kind and thoughtful, helping me make adjustments to the furniture layout once we got to the destination. Their positivity through one of the hardest situations I've ever gone through was much-needed and made me feel confident in entering this next chapter. I even had a last minute change to the destination (originally everything was going into storage but I ended up finding an apartment just in time), and the professionalism and patience from the entire Bookstore team through this change was excellent. I was incorrectly charged $153 for the month of May despite the fact that I moved out by April 30, consistent with all instructions from Public Storage. I tried raising the issue to staff at the facility itself, Public Storage customer service, and directly with District Manager Adam Martin, who ignored multiple voicemails from me. I was ignored for two months then PS sent the amount I shouldn't have been billed to a collections agency. I followed all emailed instructions, vacated the unit, and removed the lock before 4/30. I called the facility to confirm the move out inspection would be completed, and was told the staff member doing the inspections was overwhelmed and behind schedule. A few days later I was called back and another staff member told me I had left property in the unit, which is why the vacate hadn't been processed. I said I absolutely had not left anything and asked what property I had allegedly left behind. He didn't know/couldn't tell me, and said he'd call me back too confirm what was left, but never did. I went back to the Public Storage that day to find the unit empty, as I had left it. I have video of the empty unit. I later got the confirmation that I had vacated the unit. It seems to me that facility staff lied to get another month's rent out of me or to cover for the fact that other staff was not processing move outs on time. Do not do business with Public Storage.

There was always someone in the office for assistance. There was always at least a dozen clean carts to carry your items. Since Public Storage now owns it, the facility is dirty, smells bad, you're lucky if there's a dirty cart around, and there's rodent droppings and urine in my unit and on my belongings. There's rarely, if ever, someone in the office. The rent has gone up from about $60 to $264 with no reasonable explanation. I complained about the rodent mess in my unit and they said I could request an insurance payment for damage. I don't want my items damaged at all, I want the problem controlled. I asked what was being done to remove the rodents, like traps, and the person on the phone said a mediocre yes but I haven't seen any in the facility. The time that I did see someone in the office, he was late and apathetic about my concerns. I asked about the rent going up and they said it's been a while since it's gone up, like that's an explanation. If you are late with rent, they harass you nearly daily, deny you entrance after a short number of days and threaten to auction your belongings after 30 days. As a federal contractor that was laid off, this adds to the stress.
