August 19, 2023 At 9:00 pm EDT, I was setting up my storage facility and while moving around my belongings I found a dead roach. I don't know how long that roach had been there but I was appalled. Before I continue with this recent horror, let me update you on the matter from earlier this month. I spoke to the temporary manager and then the permanent manager Carlton. All I was offered for my initial review was $25 off my bill. Carlton was courteous, responsive and it appeared that he was doing what was within his power. He also assured me that the pest control vendor would be coming to retreat the facility. Now that that is out the away-- this recent issue. For readers' awareness, ExtraSpace Storage staff are not allowed to enter into the storage facilities. Nonetheless, I found a roach in my storage unit and I was enraged! I've spent over $500 to get the space organized and get everything off of the floor. I highly recommend that anyone who uses this facility without any alternative options thoroughly clean their area and purchase storage options to keep their belongings off of the floor. I'm really upset and worried about what I may bring into my home thanks to my time using this storage facility. I don't want to bring roaches or other vermin into my home due to my need for temporary storage. I would not recommend using this particular facility. Move out if you can. read more

We are currently dealing with a mice problem in our attic, so decided to temporarily put our things in a storage unit. It was very easy to book the unit online, and the manager called to confirm I was set with the unit and see if I had any questions. The two stars instead of one star is for the staff, who have been nothing but kind and helpful. It has been downhill from there. When my partner and I went to drop off things late that evening (the office was closed), the elevator was extremely defective: it took us five minutes to get up to the third floor, trying both the passcode and the app. After we finally made it up to the third floor, there was no lock in the unit, which the introductory email had said would be there. There was no response from the help line, so we just left our things and I had to go back early the next morning to get a lock from the office when it was open. I also noticed when I returned during daylight hours that there was rodent droppings on the floor of the unit. We specifically got a storage unit because we didn't want the mice in our attic to get to our things...at least the attic mice are free. read more

After renting a unit here for less than 3 months, we got a tiny 3x3 card in the mail stating that they would be DOUBLING our monthly rate later that month. Turns out that means the rate is already pro-rated at the doubled amount at the START of that month meaning we already owed the higher rate even though we had immediately informed the office that this sudden rate increase was not ok with us and we were leaving. If you don't pay after 3 days, they say they will deny you access to the unit until you do. No other contact was made about the rate doubling other than the mailed card so be very, very careful and monitor how much you are being charged here to make sure you are not being charged a higher rate without your knowledge. The facility is new and clean but this place is a trap and they will take advantage of the fact that they already have your stuff so they can increase the price whenever they want (and they do). read more

It has been a very stressful and disappointing experience! Rate increase without any notification happens on a regular basis while their online rates shown are much lower so I am currently looking for another storage facility to move out. I would NOT recommend this company in spite of their climate controlled facilities. I understand that they operate on a month-to- month basis, but Extra space storage simply hike up the rate on a whim and without any notice and don't take into consideration that some people are on fixed income. read more

I reserved a unit online, and the office called me immediately to confirm. I went over to secure my spot on the same day. I was in and out in a flash. Customer service is great, and my unit is easy to get to. Storage can get a little pricey, but that is typical for the area. 4 Stars! read more

My entire experience with Extra Space Storage from start to finish has been great! I really appreciated the time and effort that manager Kyrah took to show me around the different unit types. After a goof on my part of booking the space before I was ready to move in Kyrah gave me a grace period to follow up to confirm the unit. Beware the rate change if you took the low rate offer online. After a few months, I got a postcard informing me of a 100% price increase. LOL. I assume they hope you load it up and won't want to go through the hassle of moving out. Unfortunately, this whole industry is probably operated this way. This location is well maintained, kept up, and kept clean. I ended up closing up my unit, as I no longer needed it. There was no pressure, and the close out procedure was very quick, smooth, with both printed and e-mailed confirmations. I've gone through the pain of other businesses where it is very easy to sign up, but canceling ends up involving writing a letter that has to go to a central, non-local office. Thankfully - this was none of that. The staff were always super polite and helpful, even at closing out the unit. Overall - the experience, save for the occasional cost increases, was very positive. read more

The customer service is great here. Sometimes it takes them a few days to get back to you by phone or email but they are diligent about meeting your needs. In person, they are friendly and helpful. The units are climate-controlled and didn't get very dusty. They have a loading dock if you bring in a big truck and a few doors to back your car into otherwise for easy access. Also they have several awesome carts for moving things. The only reason I give 4 stars is that storage units are expensive! But I think it was worth paying extra to get a climate-controlled unit.. I highly recommend this business! read more

I've rented from Extra Space Storage in other areas of the country and by far this location is absolutely wonderful. The staff makes all the difference and the place is very clean. When we moved in I had purchased a small closet to hang up clothes in the unit. To my surprise the staff helped me assemble it. After my last experience with Extra Space in FL I was really reluctant but I feel very very blessed to have the opportunity to use the location. read more

I actually love this place. The only problem is that they periodically raise rates on existing customers so it costs a few hundred a year more now than it did when we started. That's pretty common for the business though. Plus everything is clean. We never have issues with getting to our stored items. The staff is super friendly. I just signed up for an 5x10 space with Alberto Portillo. He was incredibly helpful in helping me get the best possible space available. I was in a rush the day I came in to sign the contract and would've signed anything just to get the contract over with, but then Alberto mentioned that a better space was opening up if I was willing to come another day. I mentioned that my time was limited and I didn't know when I would be be able to come back. He said not to worry that he could help hold the space for me for about 2 weeks and I could come back to sign for the better space when convenient. I really appreciate the time he took to ask me what I needed, show me the space and the flexibility in having me sign the contract later. read more

I spent over 12 hours driving and explained to the manager I would be arriving after office hours but he ensured I had all the instructions for accessing the property when I arrived! I looked at my bank statement a few days ago and low and behold, extra space ran my card for a second month. No communication about auto billing, nothing. And no effort to amend this. Extra Space Storage on Newell Street was a great fit for our interim storage needs. We had a great unit that was close to the loading dock, which was incredibly convenient for accessing our unit. Staff was helpful and informative, as well as friendly and personable. Our belongings felt safe and secure, and the facility was clean and kept up well. They also have boxes, locks, and packing materials sold in store, which was helpful for a one-stop-shop during our move. We opened our account in-person, and automatic payments were set up immediately so we didn't have to go home and get them set up on our own. It was a great experience renting from Extra Space Storage, and we highly recommend them! read more

The units are not fully enclosed. When I opened the storage unit my belongings were covered with dead winged insects. Also, I called on Friday to say I was moving out Saturday. A month's rent was put on my credit card on Friday. No refund - charged a full month's rent for one day! read more

This is one of the better storage facilities I've ever seen (and I've seen plenty). It's clean, well lit, routine maintenance is performed and the front office staff (Jennifer) is great. Generally office staff in these places are surly and/or ignorant - but she is neither and offers great customer service. (I can't speak for whoever is on duty when she is not.) They have big carts and all units are on one floor. I will say lately i've noticed it's gotten a little dusty, but I think that is because of work they were doing. And, compared to other dirt bag facilities I've seen, it wasn't that bad. Not a criminal so I don't know how easy it would be to break in to units, but seems well constructed. (See my other reviews for an example of a storage facility that is the opposite.) Overall recommended - and if you find something is cheaper online and have time, try looking at both facilities first before moving your things in. read more
