I had to help my wife move her items out of storage because this location raised the fees and was going to charge at least $100 for a tiny storage. Whenever my wife called for help, no one seemed to understand what she needed or how to help. One time she came to put some items in the storage and they had locked it because they claim they never received payment, which by the way, was paid on time and processed by the bank... that's when she had to made the phone call, which took hours until someone was able to assist after all that hold on the phone. And what baffled us is the price increase for that tiny storage!!! Like seriously?!!! However, It took us a few minutes, got it done... and moved to another location. Also, some customers need to stop parking in front of cars that are already parked in a divided parking spot. read more

Let me start by saying that their staff are wonderful. Very helpful. The site could use some upkeep. My unit has no lighting. When I first arrived, the elevators worked. Now, I struggle with them. They work when they want to. I wish I had taken a look at my unit prior to rental as I would not have accepted it because it has no lighting. There should be overhead lighting for every unit. I have to bring flashlights and lanterns to see inside. The hallway is dimly lit and kinda creepy. It reminds me of Raccoon City. read more

Rats rats and more rats. The unit I took Smelled a bit like mice piss but I sort of let it slide because I needed a unit. Came back everything had rat Pisa and $hit all over it and the best part well not best I was greeted by a rat inside my box. The unit has so much rat $hit it was ridiculous. They offered for me to move to the second floor but the elevators are always broken and you can't access your unit when the elevators Are out, hence why I moved from my original 3rd floor to the 1st. I had to throw away comforters and throws too include clothing because it was covered in rat Piss. They even ate through my sneaker box and damaged my sneakers. If I had the time to move I would but I will definitely be doing somehow I return from my trip. Not worth it. read more

Very good experience at the 7722 Fenton location of Extra Space Storage. Unit was clean, size was as advertised, easy to get into the building and elevators with my personal code or through the app. When it was time to move out, Michael reversed my last charge so I wasn't paying for the unit when I wasn't there. Only cautionary note: our fee doubled after 3 months. This was probably in the contract somewhere but it still caught me by surprise. Like many businesses, they lure you in with a discount then raise the price. I suspect this is done with most storage unit places. Still worth it for me (especially considering no other complaints), but I would have preferred more transparent pricing information upfront. read more

We moved into a small unit on a weekday afternoon and had a great experience! The gates all worked well and seemed secure, and the big black moving carts made unloading quick and easy. Benjamin, the manager, was very helpful in setting us up with the lock we needed and answering all of our questions, including reassuring us about everything they're doing to address issues with mice of the kind that another recent reviewer mentioned. (When we looked closely, we found some small mouse droppings in one corner, but we figure that's probably inevitable in any large building of this kind. We also talked to another tenant who mentioned that he has had a unit here for a long time and had no issues with mice or other rodents. Only time will tell, but we just did our best to pack everything carefully, and we're feeling fine about it!) read more

After dealing with a horrible roommate situation and needing a place to store my things, I was absolutely thrilled to have found such an amazing storage facility - with outstanding customer service! Carmen couldn't have been more accommodating and patient with me - especially in near 100 degree temperature. And the other gentleman who sorted out my billing and paperwork (arrghh forgot his name!) was amazing too. With all of the other stresses happening on that day, these folks made everything work out perfectly! After three years as a customer, I just moved out due to a relocation to a new city. In that time, they definitely improved. Extra, well maintained carts were added. The entry and exit keypads were repaired and encased in concrete to that they could survive minor vehicle hits. The employees were very helpful at checkout. The only thing keeping them from a five star is that they don't refund a pro-rated amount of rent if you move out prior to your next billing date. Great place. I would give it 5 stars if it was open a little later which cause me distress when I was moving because I needed to get there past 10pm but it closes then. The other thing is that they only have 2 wheeled dollies on deck when the front office is closed (which includes Sunday's). I moved into this storage unit about a week ago. I recently moving out of my studio apartment and needed storage for about 6 months. Celso was incredibly helpful and made the whole process super easy. He called me as soon as I made a walk through appointment online and confirmed pricing and availability. When I arrived, he showed me two different unit sizes and informed me on the best deal for my $. Throughout the whole process, I felt he had my best interest in mind as the customer. He did this by reminding me to bring my own lock ($5-8 dollars at CVS compared to $17-20 at Extra Storage) and patiently waiting for me to finish reading through the contract. He even gave me a heads up of the fee increases (other reviews mentioned this as well) and told me I could avoid this by paying up front to lock in the current fee structure. He provided thorough explanation and friendly support throughout the process. In addition to the wonderful customer service, the facility is clean and fairly well lit. They supply large moving dollys next to the elevator as well which is super helpful when moving heavy boxes and furniture. My unit is on the second floor and requires me to take an elevator, which I didn't love, but Extra Storage makes it easy to transfer items regardless of which unit you're in. I found the Wheaton location to be the most affordable but well managed location after online research. My experience so far has shown this to be true. read more

My wife and I reserved a unit here to store some furniture that we will not need at our new place. Everyone was very friendly throughout the reservation process. We were shown a unit on the third floor, and the gentleman helping us pointed out as a selling point the two large elevators that we would use to bring our things up. A few hours later, we came back with our furniture loaded in a uhaul and started to unload. We quickly discovered that it was impossible to get an elevator to take us up. It turned out that one of the elevators was broken, and that the only other one was being held up by another renter. The people in the office said they planned to get the elevator fixed, but not for a few days. They said they were unable to ask the other renter to share the elevator, and that basically we could fight them for it or leave. Finally they offered a solution: pay $60 extra a month for a unit on the first floor (and therefore the privilege of actually being able to access the unit we had paid for). They refused to give us any sort of discount on this unit even though we'd been sold the first one under false pretenses (the two elevators). They also made it clear that if we left for another unit they had no intention of returning the $40 we had already paid in fees and insurance. Finally, exhausted from spending the whole day moving, we caved and paid up. Also, though it hardly seemed important at the time compared with the deception and extortion, the ramp leading to the storage entrance was completely covered with ice and created a dangerous situation for people and property trying to go up and down it. Obviously no salting had taken place. read more

Well, the honeymoon is over! After a few months, I found myself more frustrated than happy using this service. Entering and parking is really difficult, especially on a busy day. There is often no one in the office. (What happened to the nice manager?) The rickety carts are too few and poorly maintained. I switched to another space, and the lighting is so dim that I have to bring a flashlight. Most irritating of all is that they raised the rent over 10 per cent in one fell swoop. I called to question this three times, and each time I was told "someone will get back to you." No one ever has--so I'll be taking my stuff elsewhere. read more

I have been renting there for about 13 months and have been very pleased. It is climate controlled, which is very important because of the video production equipment I have there. The hours are pretty good compared to other facilities in the area. Jesse the manger has been very customer responsive. I agree with a recent review about having additional dollies on deck when they are closed. Its not cheap, but this is Montgomery County and it is very convenient. When the weather is bad they are good at making sure the facility is clear to run. In summary it does what I need it to do I rarely give 5 stars to anything, yes the lighting could be a touch better but its a storage unit read more

We only used this place for a short time but we're very happy with how it all went! The people working in the office were friendly, upfront, and very accommodating. The storage space was plenty big enough for all of our belongings, it was clean and the climate control is nice (both for your furniture and for you when trying to move!). The units themselves don't have much light so maybe bring a flashlight if you are bothered by that but we did not find this to be a big deal. The facility seems secure and climate controlled. But the problems are serious and far exceed these attributes. The unit I rented for 3 years became infested with some worm /insect that destroyed my rugs (which had been professionally cleaned) and there was a slow water leak from above that ruined 2 antique wood tables. The management are insensitive and accept zero responsibility even when their negligence is clear. They offered another unit in a different floor at a lower rate so I spent a day moving everything. The price on that unit has increased from $235 to $355 per month over 9 months! Their contract gives no protections and virtually no rights to the renter. read more

I like the location and service though the carts are sometimes hard to locate. However, I was not told about the 20% late fee and should have read the contract more carefully. Apparently my credit card did not go through and I just missed the last day for payment. By the time I called them back with another method of payment, it was too late. Being that it was the holiday period full of other distractions,I should have been more careful. The representatives could not do anything for me. Two stars for the twenty percent late fee and less than caring service. And for the misleading advertising about the first free month free. That deal is based on availability. If you use this storage facility, be careful about reading the contract carefully. And have alternative plans if there are no carts available. read more

I was referred to the Extra Space Storage facility through some friends who live in the area. I was pleased to see that all their reviews and high regards were actually true. The front entry was very clean and the office as well. I was greeted by both Korawn and an older gentleman named Michael. Korawn was very nice and very informative. I toured the premise and he was able to answer all my questions and concerns. Being this is my first time renting a unit I just wanted to make sure that my items would be safe and that I could access as often as I would like and more importantly my money would go far. I haven't actually moved anything into my locker yet but so far, the service has been exactly as advertised. The first month is in fact FREE but if you elect to insure your property, there is a monthly cost. Not a big surprise. Who would expect the owners to pay your insurance for you? The facility appears clean and although the pull cord for the light in my particular unit was too high for me to reach easily, the representative who showed me to my unit promised to add an extension to it for me.
