You cannot speak to a real person. The worst customer service experience I've ever had. No property manager ever available on-site. Operational practices need to change. I understand the property manager manages other properties but then phone calls should route to their cell phone. Never use this place. I got a notice that my rate had increased by almost $100/month. I went back to read the fine print in the agreement. It says "Your Rental Terms May Change with 30 Days' Notice. We may change your Monthly Rent, fees and charges, and any other terms of this Rental Agreement with 30 days' notice to you." In other words, they can charge whatever they want, whenever they want. You have to be serious scumbags to put a clause like that in your agreement. read more

Staff are never on site, phone app does not work with gate, gate opens and closes by itself, and the company charges you a lock fee that you cannot be reimbursed for without talking to the property manager who is never on site. read more

I've had nothing but issues at this location. I had three units in this facility and I used it for one of my businesses that operated in downtown silver spring before covid. Unfortunately the place has gone downhill (dirty, closes early, rats, mice, and insects) and the management has gotten worse and worse. The manager Ben continues to make up his own hours and harasses customers who need to get into their units. I asked for the district managers information, but was refused the info. I was literally yelled at and screamed at by the manager on several occasions. I eventually moved all my stuff out in Easter Sunday and Monday. I couldn't take the constant unprofessional and inappropriate actions by the on site manager. I have used the tech road and laurel locations without issue, but this one has to be the worst. I have the manager on video screaming and cursing. But I am. It sure who I should report this issue to in the company. They should know who they have in control at this location. They are loosing money everyday. I literally spoke to three people moving out for the same reasons. read more

ARE OTHER RENTERS ON THE BASEMENT LEVEL? IF SO, YOU MIGHT WANT TO CHECK YOUR UNIT IMMEDIATELY. There is a huge problem on the climate controlled basement level at this Public Storage Facility where I've had a unit since January 2022. A noxious chemical smell permeates the floor and inside my unit. The items I have stored there have now absorbed this stench. I have notified Public Storage through multiple means: the onsite staff person, customer service chat line, corporate-level customer service P.O. box, and regional managers. Not one person has contacted me to follow-up and no action has been taken. THERE IS NO ACCOUNTABILITY ON BEHALF OF MANAGEMENT TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I should've done my due diligence and read the reviews on this place before choosing it. I hate when people advertise themselves as professional but are actually ridiculous. The property reps are nice but not truly helpful and the location and management is nowhere to be found. I moved and have a unit here because I used them before in the past. None of my other ones gave me any issues. But within the first week I found out I was sold a unit with a broken door, it's difficult to open and close it and the lock is broke! Who does that to someone, and I have to wait to get it fixed while my items are stuck in there. Plus I cut my damn finger trying to close it shut and had to go sew my doctor to make sure it is ok. I would advise anyone to use this place in the near future. And if this doesn't get taken care of within the next 24-48 hrs I'm leaving this unit and going to corporate! read more

This Public Storage is very dingy and not so clean. The guys at the front desk are not helpful. Take your business elsewhere. Also worried that they had either mouse or roach traps but of course I couldn't see the unit until after I paid. First time I've seen this at a storage and this is my fourth time storing items in the DMV. Would not recommend and would not store my items here in the future. read more

This place owes me stars. Where are the negative star buttons when they are needed. Unsure if I wanted to reside in the DC Metro area or my home of NYC, I knew that downsizing needed to happen and I would have to place much of my things in storage. Living in downtown Silver Spring, this was the closest storage unit to me that came up with a quick Google search. The abundance of rats (although the property manager assured me they were only mice... WTF!) is absurd. Some creature with teeth ate straight through my boxes and defecated all over my mattress. There goes something that I am never sleeping on again in life. They had the nerve to tell me that they do not provide for removal and I would have to remove it myself. I wasn't touching that thing. It had rodent droppings all over it. The insurance company offered me the lovely total of 200 dollars if I could provide receipts. I would have been better off selling my stuff. read more

The WORST public storage to do business with. Find a different storage place even if you have to pay a little more or drive further, you'll be glad you did. Let me explain what happened, I reserved a unit for about $107 online. A week later I go to pick up the keys and move my stuff in. After being walked to my unit and back to the office, another representative came and took the unit from me claiming it's for another customer who was having issues with theirs the same day. They both then proceeded to tell me that there are no other units available at that rate. I RESERVED the unit before hand. That means it is to be held for ME for when I go to pick up the keys. They offered me a bigger unit at the same rate, since this was the most convenient storage place for me at the time, I couldn't go elsewhere. The price for this unit was more expensive but they promised to have it fixed by submitting a ticket. Fast forward a month, it was never fixed. I spoke with their district manager multiple times with each time promising to have it fixed and late fees removed. A month of "you owe a balance, please pay" calls, and still nothing. At this point, I don't know what to do. Save yourselves the headache and use a different storage company. read more

Last week I was running and found myself in dire need of a restroom, which is hard to come by due to the pandemic. I absolutely would never use this company again. Here's why: Rate increases after three months with little notice or explanation. Some on-site staff are incredibly rude (to be fair, some on-site staff are reasonably pleasant and helpful). Non-functioning lights throughout the facility (including directly in front of my unit) for the entire duration of my lease. Exorbitant insurance costs if you use their coverage options. And, just recently, after vacating on the 2nd and being informed that they do not pro-rate, I was called on the 3rd multiple times in a row (I was driving). When I called back, the first words spoken to me--in an aggressive, hostile tone--were: "Are you going to pay your bill or do you want to go to collections?" Unbelievable. If it wasn't for the expense and inconvenience, I'd have been gone much sooner. You can do better, prospective renter. You can do much better. read more

I should start by saying I didn't even end up storing my stuff here but based on the customer service I felt like I had to review. We went in to view a unit that we wanted to rent for one month - starting the last week of July and leaving the last week of August. We were told they charge monthly. We were then told payment was due at the time of move in and also on the first of each month. So I said if we move in with 5 days left in July we pay for the month of July then we pay again for a full month on August 1st? The response I got was "payment is due upfront". So they basically tried to charge us twice for the same 30 day period we would be there. We just high tailed it out of there because it felt like a straight scam. I'd recommend storing at extra space storage which is literally next door and much more upfront and professional. read more

I know you need storage. But you really don't want to deal with this company. I had made a reservation about a week before wanting to move things into the storage unit. $130 for a decent sized unit. Got a confirmation email, then the location also called and I confirmed verbally. Good so far... The day before move-in they called again, and I confirmed again. They also sent another email going over the appointment details and price, still listed at $130. Then the day I was supposed to move in (this morning), they called and said that it would be $190 instead of $130. They tried to slip it in casually, like I wouldn't notice an almost 50% price increase. I asked why it was different and they said, the price "has dropped." I was like wait?!, what?!, no it's supposed to $130?! They just kept saying that the rate has dropped and after a while I was like, "A drop means the price is going down, this is getting more expensive." She was like "it dropped from our system" as in we aren't offering that price any more. I was stunned. It just feel so much like false advertising to post one price online and then confirm it the day before just to ask for much more money the day of. I repeatedly asked them to honor the price from my reservation and they said no. It basically ended with her saying "Your move-in rate is $190" in a very strong manner. Total scam. I even tried to call the corporate office, who's position was that reservations are only good for a week. I asked them to show me where this was written, and they only pointed to an asterisk on the original quote page that says "may be subject to change." There is nothing at all in the emails saying that your reservation is basically meaningless. In a way I'm really glad though, because after reading all the reviews on this page about rats/rodents, bad service, damaged stuff, and the dishonest manager I think I am dodging a bullet by not storing my stuff here. My recommendation is that you do the same. read more

The facility is poorly run and has leaks and rodents. I kept things here for only three months in the summer and everything I had was covered in mold and mouse urine and droppings -- I even got to see the mouse when it jumped out of my laundry basket. They refused to give me a refund, claiming it's the insurance company's problem and they make no guarantees about the space except that it has four walls and a ceiling. During my move, the movers couldn't get my sofa inside my apartment because of the configuration of the foyer. I decided to bring both sofa and loveseat to Public Storage while I find a buyer. After a week, we had Hurricane Sandy. I figured, it's inside an enclosed building and it's Public Storage for goodness sake. I was confident that nothing will happen to it. Two days after, I got a call from them asking me to check my unit for water damage. When I got there, my unit has water on the floor and both my sofa and loveseat were soaked! Rainwater came in through the ceiling joints and trickled on the wall (my unit is against the wall). Good thing they require renters to get an insurance. So while that is sort of solved, another issue came up. Disposal. I understand that most storage facilities do not have dumpsters to prevent people from disposing their stuff from their respective storage units. But you would think that because of their negligence (i.e. improperly grouting the ceiling joints), they will provide a dumpster to assist the renters. Yes, I call it negligence. It is an enclosed building. Therefore, ensuring that their building is leak free is part of their responsibility. I've used a different Public Storage facility in the past and I had a good experience. But this one is horrible. If you're in the Silver Spring area, DO NOT USE THIS ONE. There is another storage facility down the road from this. Perhaps you should check that out instead. DO NOT USE THIS FACILITY. And one more thing, when I took my stuff out, I saw 2 mice in my unit that ran to the adjacent one. read more

The staff was very pleasant and hospitable. Accessing my unit was never an issue or a hassle. My only areas of concern are the storage space itself. For example, apparently only one floor is ventilated or has air. Either way, it gets very difficult to breathe and it becomes more uncomfortable than necessary when moving. Although I had a pleasant experience with those working, their upper management can do to upgrade their facility. read more

No disabled access after 6pm. No carts after 6pm. Watch out for the unexpected lock charge of nearly $20. Don't really like to honor online corporate pricing, but do. They sent me an email changing the price of my storage, but I refused to accept such change within a few days of renting the unit. I pay my rent on time but this month, Ive got a special $15 charge. Be careful and watch out for seemingly "bait and switch" practices. Your best defense is to refuse them in writing.. Reserved storage unit online for this location using Express Check-in. However, still had to complete paperwork upon arrival. Staff person, Dorine, was friendly and helpful. Able to complete transaction and unload in less than hour. Since I'm only storing a few boxes for a month, 5x5 unit is sufficient storage space. The gate keypad was not operating properly. Hopefully, it will be repaired soon. After reading the poor YELP reviews on this Public Storage location, hope I don't regret my decision to rent storage unit at this location read more

So after being a good tenant from May until December (e.g. abiding by the terms and conditions of the leasing agreement and making payments on time), I really felt like the Property Manager and District Manager (Brad and Sydney) acted very insensitive regarding my situation and refused to level with my unique circumstances (i.e. needing more time to retrieve my items so that I can function and survive due to my current living conditions). In closing if, anyone needs storage, DO NOT USE THIS LOCATION AT ALL, especially with the mold issue in THE BASEMENT! The only way I will ever use any of their facilities again, is if they put the other employees (Marcie or Renye) back in charge, or rehire this other employee (Franklin). In closing, I refused to pay the bill and if they so happen to send my account to collections, I will pursue legal action for getting sick on multiple occasions for them refusing to disclose the mold issue. #FIREMANAGEMENT read more
