OMG, their employees cannot fix their mistakes. All mistakes with charges and pricing must be done by a district manager. My ridiculous experience was the follow up to being accidentally charged for the first month instead of their $1 promo. The cashier could not refund the overcharge, because only a district manager can do that. So, I took her suggestion to open a NEW account them learned the district manager would need to adjust the price down to the price I had for the original unit. Two weeks later, the original accounts shows I am overdue due to the district manager not closing properly and the new account still has the original price. The district manager even called me to tell me everything was done, but their countrywide customer service shows everything is still pending and they cannot even fix it! I am amazed how their policies are inconsistent with EVERY other business in the country! Can you imagine a Walmart employee overcharging at checkout then telling you a district manager not a the store would fix it later, "trust us." read more

Started off smoothly but then they hit you with rental insurance and even thought I told them I was covered I was required to pay. To require me to come into the office personally with proof of insurance is a complete waste of time - - should be done by email or fax. First morning I used the unit, there were a few "strange characters" onsite and that did not help me feel my stuff was safe. If it wasn't for the location, I would be out of there. read more

My experience was great. Deora and Beth helped me get into storage unit over the last few weeks with utter ease. I had first dealt with someone on the phone from a call center that arranged my meeting with Beth at Pubic Storage Lake Union. She was extremely welcoming and helped me find a storage unit that best fit my needs. I finally figured out what unit to get, but waited one more week closer to my move out date. Beth was a Pro at lining me up with a great annual rent. I later came back to finally sign a lease. The woman with a sweet southern accent was very accommodating because I was a day early and wanted to take care of the lease signing right as they opened. Deora was finally the one that helped me sign a rental lease. Her politeness and great energy made the process very pleasant. I'm over-excited about being able to have such a great experience with the Lake Union PS. I would recommend this place to anyone! read more

We just came from this facility and the people could not have been nicer or more helpful. George was our representative and he couldn't have been any better. He asked really good questions to ensure we got the right sized unit to save us a lot of time when we move our things in. He was also friendly and cheerful which made the normally boring process seem like fun. He gave us very good suggestions and when we did not like the original unit he found us another one that was even less expensive! Everyone in the office was laughing and friendly. The other reviews sound dreadful. It is a shame because I have been treated very well. I had to get a larger space and the folks at the front desk were very helpful. It took a total of 15 minutes to look at the unit and fill out new paperwork. I had allotted an hour. I don't expect visiting my storage unit to be a great time but certainly wasn't a bad experience and made more pleasant by the people who took care of me at the front desk. read more

First off, a big "shout out" for Andrea, customer service for Public Storage on Fairview in Seattle. My daughter and I were driving 5 1/2 hours on a Sunday, hit traffic in almost every city we passed through, and started stressing that we would not make it to the storage facility before closing time. We called ahead and Andrea agreed to stay late to check us in so we wouldn't have to keep our rental car (a big expense) another night. She was so relaxed and helpful, showing us around and how to locate our unit, etc. I cannot say enough about the fabulous service she provided us. Secondly the unit is immaculate. We were located in brand new building in an easily accessible location. Security was top notch. The unit, building and lobby were spotless. I do agree with other reviewers that we were a bit surprised with a couple of add-on fees we weren't expecting, like mandatory insurance at $11 per month. That said, the pricing and policies were explained to us very clearly at the counter and we are happy with the value we received and especially with the customer service provided by Andrea. read more

My two favorite aspects of renting my 5x5 storage unit was: a. How quick and uncluttered the process of obtaining my monthly unit was b. How patiently nice and efficient my customer service rep was as she walked me through all of the steps, including taking me to the storage unit and showing me how to unlock it while jugglng other customers (it was crazy busy there until another representative came in specifically to help . I also appreciate that I can come in earlier or later than their office hours (to get things like my dog's food when she runs out, smiling) because that will help reduce a LOTof 9-5 traffic stress. plus The entry, elevator, and space are all secured with videocams and entrance codes (that I need to use to be able to get on my unit's floor (all other floors are off limits) which means the likelihood of my space being accessed by anyone except me is highly unlikely (knock on wood, smiling). so I think my monthly fee of $68 (includes insurance) is very reasonable for a secured, indoors, easily accessible 5x5 unit, especially since all land is so expensive for any usage in Seattle. and Thank you to my customer eervice rep for making the usual paperwork stress of moving more pleasant than not. read more

Explained all the paperwork and went over codes, hours of operation, etc. Only issue was insurance and I believe that has been solved. After looking on-line for storage options, I decided on the Fairview location for its easy access near I-5 and also to the South Lake Union district and the University District, as well as the bargain-low rate for storage (I took a 5x5 unit in the basement level for an additional $15 discount while registering on-line). Check-in was a breeze, with no surprise fees or costs. George was very personable, informative, thorough, and efficient. The units are designed for a particular kind of lock (a cylinder insert), and there is a small fee for that (less than $20), but it is worth it, and you can also add a second lock if you wish--probably not a bad idea if you are storing high-value items. They require insurance, so just be sure your current renters policy will cover it or else be ready to pay for the insurance that Public Storage offers--it is your choice, and there was no pressure once I verified that I was covered with my existing insurance. The space was exactly as advertised, with very high ceilings that allowed me to stack vertically much higher than at previous spaces I have rented elsewhere. Entry to the yard is controlled by a personal access code, which also regulates access to the assigned floor, via the elevator. You can only access the floor assigned to you, which is an excellent extra security feature. There are on-site restroom facilities, drinking fountains, and carts for moving things to and from the secure parking area. Those were very much appreciated "perks" that were not available at other, more expensive places I have rented in the past. read more

CAVEAT EMPTOR - I moved into this location because they were having a great deal for Memorial Day - and I was led to believe this deal was ongoing. Now after 5 months, I get a notice saying my rates are going to be jacked up by a third. When I called about it, I was basically told they would keep raising the price until it was full rate. I suggest that if you try one of their deceptive deals, ask them to print out the rates for the next year or so and see how much the rates go up before you sign. read more

You don't stay at a place if it isn't a great place, and I have been at this facility for over 17 years. They are helpful, courteous, and friendly. They have just gone through a large addition which was challenging at times, but the staff did all that they could to help out. We will continue to keep our lockers here without question. read more

Great storage unit due to location and cleanliness. It was really easy to move-in and they go over the items (kind of scary knowing that they know what you will be storing) that you are storing to make sure you are getting the right storage unit. However, I didn't think it was necessary for me because I knew which unit I wanted already as I have rented here before. I wanted a 5x10 unit and the person I talked to told me that I could probably squeeze everything into a 5x5 unit if I "had packed better" - which I didn't appreciate and then tried to sell me boxes and other storage supplies. After moving everything in, there is no way I could have fit everything in a 5x5 unless I literally stacked everything to the top of the storage unit where it is unreachable for me. I'm not sure if I got haggled about this because they had a shortage of 5x10 units or what the issue was but I just don't think it's necessary to tell me what kind of storage unit to get when I have stored with them before in a 5x10 unit. read more

It's a storage unit. Don't expect anything else; including customer service or cleanliness. They have two buildings, one is old and one is new. My unit is in the old building and it's gross. Dusty floors, gross elevator. I had to clean the keypad and buttons myself because I couldn't take the greasiness I got from touching buttons any longer. The new building is fairly clean inside except for the bathrooms and elevators. The bathrooms are an atrocity, often with no toilet paper or paper towels except what's strewn about on the floor. The toilets have buildup from dry urine and dirt that has been there for at least a couple days. Wouldn't have cared a bit if the staff were at all receptive of what I said instead of slighting me and acting like it's entirely impossible that their restrooms can sustain such nastiness. Mirrors are always dirty, I literally cleaned the toilet seat MYSELF with my own cleaning supplies in my unit. The one positive thing I have to say is my stuff is quite secure. I had to put a tarp down over their broken up floor to keep the dust down when moving items in my unit, I guess cleanliness is an alright sacrifice for sexu read more

Here is my story, which is why this company truly deserves one star. It was a little after 9:00 pm and I was finishing a final load of furniture in an elevator. It was my last night in the area, as I was leaving in the morning for a new place and moving took just a little longer than I expected. The elevator, however, didn't work while my final load was in it, and locked. I couldn't even get to my storage unit to lock it, or finish loading it. I was completely screwed over by this company in this moment. They had no sympathy that anyone could have easily stolen my stuff if they walked by, because i had both an open storage unit and other stuff just sitting in the elevator. It took a long time to figure out who to contact about this, and eventually no one was even available to help. An operator told me if I had an "emergency" to call 911 and was totally rude and disrespectful to me. She also said we could not DRIVE out of the lot and had to stay overnight until I flipped the f*** out and she said alright I will remotely unlock it, but acted like she was doing me a huge favor. She SERIOUSLY expected me and the people helping me to stay overnight, as though that was a realistic option?? She also said, AFTER WE ALREADY LEFT, that we should load the truck back up with my furniture instead of leaving it all in the elevator. I was like uhhh are you serious right now, you know for a fact we just left and it's locked and you told us you would only let us out if we left right that second. I am not sure if they are just dumb, or if they are actually evil. It was completely ridiculous even though it was technically after their "closing hours". These hours don't even make much sense as it is a STORAGE UNIT. I was most surprised that they actually lock you out at a certain point. seriously?? what are we paying for I had to go back at 6:00 am to finish packing which pretty much ruined all of my plans, and I even had to change my time of departure from the area the next day which had many negative consequences, seriously. It was a completely horrible and surprising experience that made me feel very sick. Overall a terrible situation being there just a little bit after 9:00 pm. They are rude. In addition to this, they also demanded you make "appointments" to see a unit which seemed silly, and they called many times about the appointments which was very annoying. One or two of the people in the offices were nice in person, but it was definitely the individuals who were this way and not the company. Also, the storage unit was definitely overpriced. Bad experience for just a simple freaking rental unit, especially their rudeness about closing hours. Do not rent from public storage unless they have a super convenient specific location or unless it is much cheaper than ALL other companies in an area. This company seriously made me feel sick, and completely ruined my plans as well as the plans of those helping me. read more

A low down crooked type of a business. They put in their ad as $1 for 1 month, but what they don't tell you is that they prorate the month at first then you get the next month for $1. I got a storage unit in the middle of the month and they prorated that month which costed more than any storage unit I have ever had. Over $80. Then, if you don't get your stuff out before your $1 dollar month is up the unit of a 10x10 would cost me $243 a month. If that wasn't enough, I got my stuff out in time and a month later I got a bill for $6.90 for something that wasn't identified. DON"T GO THERE SAVE YOUR MONEY!! read more

My family had two storage places broken into at this establishment within a few months. There was a very hostile man named Colin, working at Public Storage at the time, who refused to acknowledge any wrongdoing, even though he repeatedly left gates unlocked and open when they were supposed to be locked and closed. He, and by extension Public Storage, has treated myself and my family with an appalling lack of respect, consistently attempting to shift the blame and shut us up. By not taking the proper security measures to protect my family's belongings, this company has not only greatly inconvenienced us during a vulnerable time (moving), but has also deprived us of important family keepsakes and memories. It is deplorable for a company that deals with people's belongings while they are in transition to be so nonchalant about their customer's belongings. Shame on you, Public Storage. read more

I have rented a storage unit here for 3 months and it has been broken into twice in that time. Security is non existent, the mandatory insurance is a joke and the locks (that they require you to buy) are pretty much designed to allow easy tweaker access. If you want secure storage do not store anything here. read more

I've had a storage unit here for 13 years (actually I've moved and am on my third unit). During that time my basement unit was flooded (accounting for my first move) and my second unit was broken into twice (and I was not alone). Ever since Public Storage bought the property and doubled the number of units things have gotten MUCH worse. There are only a handful of carts (there used to be at least 3x as many with many fewer units) and since they get stolen you now have to go to the office and check a cart out--an enormous inconvenience. To save electricity only about one out of every three fixtures is activated and some units are very dark. I downsized to a smaller unit earlier in the year and my rent was increased 17% after only 6 months!!!! I called the District Manager to discuss the issue of carts over a week ago--he has not returned my call. Clearly management is more concerned with their bottom line than customer satisfaction. Given the growth of South Lake Union I expect they'll continue to get away with this type of behavior. How sad... read more
