My rent raised without notice shortly after moving in, my unit along with two dozen or more others was broken into, the hours changed to m-f 9am to 6pm and s/s 9am to 5pm. Hours most people work, it's a storage not a bank. It has taken months to be able to move because I work until 5. Really disappointing. Find a place not far away with on site management, half the price and excellent hours. Do not recommend. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION!!! These guys here are the biggest jokes. We rented a 10x30 unit here. We always paid on time, had ZERO late fees. We get a call 6 months after having the unit and they try to raise our rent $105 (or 28%)! We asked why and they were just pompous and terrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrible customer service as it gets. Like these idiots forgot how to talk to an actual human being. Said they rent was increasing because they were at over 90% capacity. Then I asked about our good rental history and the lady flat out said "we don't care about that." Not joking! They don't care for your business or if you are a good customer. Who says that?! Oh yeah, these idiots. I seriously forgot more about ethical business than these employees know combined. Then she tells out flat out that the customers they are nothing but a number and the rates are based on an algorithm. Then said "well you are month-to-month so we can do anything we want with your rent". Just never had a business straight sat stuff like this to me ever and I have worked with MANY business owners in the PNW. Thousands in my line of work. We just moved out. These people will get you in the door with a special but once they do they will completely treat you like trash after. I will actively detour ANYONE from renting with businesses that don't want them like this. I will never stop telling people to avoid this location. Will bring it up out of the blue even if the topic is not brought up. I will never stop and never forget. Only tip of the iceberg and that is sad because I never do that. This business is in the bottom 0.01% of any establishment in ANY vertical of businesses with a license in WA state. AVOID THEM! read more

The unit I am renting is clean and accessible. But this is where reliable service from this outfit ends. I was locked out of access to the facility and my storage unit because my payment was late [due to the vagaries of it being a weekend]. On the Monday following the notification I received on my phone about the payment, I tried to pay the bill and was put through a ringer, which quickly turned into a nightmare. The contact number given on their web page is one of those annoying voices which goes around and around in circles, listing numerical options none of which worked. After a frustrating 3 hours of trying to reach one of their services (options on their answering service which do not work) I headed over to the storage site only to find no one in attendance. This seems to be a normal situation at this location. I have used this outfit before and do not recall having any of these problems before. However, times have changed and I find myself locked into a vicious contract with no recourse in the immediate future. I've rented many storage units and usually companies give me a discount for being a loyal customer. This is not something I expect of course but what I didn't expect is having a $100+ increase on my monthly rent in just 6 months. No, this isn't because my promo was over. The promo I signed up for was 2nd month half off. That was it. Full price all other months - what they didn't tell me was it's standard practice to raise their customers rent at 6 months IF they are busy. I was also told it's because my unit is very popular. Well had I known I would be getting a $100+ increase at 6 months maybe I would have asked for a less popular unit lol It's bizarre, it's the only company I've ever done business with that gives zero incentive to refer anyone to them. Because, as they said, if they get more business / customers, existing customers will have to pay higher rent. While other companies reward their customers by referring their friends, this company does the opposite. Doesn't sound like they need the business anyway because over 90% of their units are rented, I was told. Lastly there was a jab at how I hadn't even been there for a year yet to negotiate pricing but it sure was long enough for a rent increase. read more

Since renting here, the rent has increased and i have had my unit broken into. The first time was xmas day 2020. I got my call 12/26 and was informed my unit and many other were robbed. I was also told they did not make a police report and that was my responsibility. Later I found out from the police dept that public storage did in fact make a report but only on their behalf. Fast forward to present day. I receive a call and again my unit was broken into. However this time i was told a report was made on my behalf and they have been trying to fix their entries into the facility and their cameras!! Wait? What? You basiclly have given the thieves access and yet it all falls onto me to get insurance involved? I will be moving my stuff and this is the 2nd Public Storage location ive had theft issues with. DO NOT STORE ANYTHING HERE!! read more

Rodent issue discovered prior to New years by wife (feces and smell) 2015 Waited till after New Years on 1/2 to see the damage for my self. Talked to Vira, was told that no exterminator can be scheduled, must got through regional manager. Regional Manager name and number given, was told by Vira to call tomorrow 1/3, because he would be gone already, this was 4pm PST. Was told by PS that exterminator would lay down rat poison. Called exterminator ourselves and was told that is the last thing they would do, have a new issue of dead rats in our stuff. Tweeted public storage. Regional Manager emailed 1/3, attempted call 1/5, phone number given gave fast busy. Called 1-800 on website, redirected to specific storage location. Another onsite visit today 1/5, Regional Manager was there, however did not talk to wife. So far the response from Public Storage has been pretty unsatisfactory and with no empathy. If you have stuff here, please check on your stuff, rodents typically don't stay in one place. We are an outside unit towards the hill aiming west SE 48th. read more

I have rented a 10x10 space for 3 years. Rent started at $100 per month. They have raised my rent 150%, now $250 per month. My salary hasn't raised 150%, gas has not raised 150%, food has not raised 150%, so why do they think it is OK to raise my rental storage 150%??? I found several other companies offering the same size for $100 per month, 2 free months and a free moving van to use. goodbye Public Storage. Find another sucker to steal from. read more

Beware of all of the add on fees. The introductory rate ($1 first month) might seem promising, but by the time you buy their "new" lock ($20.00), and administration fee ($24.00), the smallest 5'x5' unit they have comes out even. Additionally, make sure you have your own insurance that covers your belongings as they charge an insane rate and require you to have some form of insurance in order to sign for a unit. Also know that their terms and conditions relieve them from all responsibility when it comes to your belongings. If they burn down the building, get broken into, get mold damage on everything, etc. they won't be liable per the agreement. To save yourself some money, buy the proper lock prior to signing for a unit. They use a silly tubular/barrel cylinder lock that is easily bypassed, but you can find it for half what they charge through online sites by searching Public Storage Cylinder lock. Some units only allow for this type of lock, others may still accept a standard padlock, you won't know till you get there. The gate code system is a bit of a joke too. They create a unique access code for each tenant to use to get into the location to be able to track people coming and going. However, this doesn't stop any stranger from driving in right behind you without having a code (as we observed our very first time entering the premises). read more

I was one of the dozens of units that was burglarized, but what a recent news story regarding the break in isn't saying is that a burglary took place a few days before, and nearly nothing was done to secure my unit and my building. Yes, that i TWO burglaries in less than 5 days. I was contacted on Monday in the late afternoon saying that my unit was left open and had appeared to be broken into. It was, the deadbolt had been bent in half and a number of items had been stolen. It was close to closing time when I was notified and by the time I had gotten there they had less than 30 minutes until the office was supposed to close. The employee Dave was more concerned with getting out of the office on time rather than making sure the buildings and units items were safe. I decided I couldn't do anything other than bend the deadbolt back into place but I told him that I wanted to make sure they would immediately change my deadbolt in the morning. Upon leaving, I also noticed both the standard and large sliding doors locks had been compromised and I brought this to the employees attention. He said there was nothing he could do, they were closing soon and his shift was almost over. I wrote the company that evening and I was contacted the next morning by someone from management named Chanel. I told her everything I had experienced so far, from the employee that was more concerned with leaving on time and TWO doors with non functioning locks. She apologized and said my deadbolt would be replaced that day and she would take care of everything. I was told to bring my key down, they would promptly take care of things. Fast forward three days, and I made a follow up because I hadn't heard a single thing from the company and they still had a set of my keys to my unit. I finally got ahold of the manager and what she told me was that yes, they replaced my lock and the doors had been fixed but they had experienced another break in. I arrived at my locker and immediately noticed that I was broken into again and that the lock I was told 30 minutes prior had been changed, was in fact still the deadbolt that had originally been bent in half and was not reliable. When the manager finally arrived at my unit, she once again lied telling me it was fixed. I immediately called her on this. Her response was, "Oh, maybe not all locks had been fixed." While I can understand that this may have been over-looked if the original break in had been the same number of units as the large burglary, but there were only a few units broken into. They had more than enough time to fix my unit and the exterior doors that were obviously compromised. There are a number of factors that could have been addressed prior to the second, larger break in. As soon as Chanel decided to boldly lie to my face I realized that this facility lacked the ability to secure the clients units. I said I felt they should at least be able to give me a new lock to secure my unit for another day so I could return the following evening to remove all my items. Chanel said no, I would have to buy another lock, the facility was not responsible for the unit, the lock and the items inside. I could understand if this was the first break in, but I had been in the facility for less than two weeks, and had experienced a break in and theft on two occasions. It took every ounce of personal restraint not to lose my cool on Chanel, someone that should not be in any sort of supervisor position. I went to the front office to buy another lock and managed to meet her supervisor. He immediately realized how angry I was and how appalled I was at Chanel's response. Luckily he didn't make me pay for another lock. I was back, 20 minutes later and emptied my unit. Long story short, find another place. The facility is not safe with two break-ins in one week, one resulting in over 60 units being robbed as proof. The management is both incompetent and lacked the understanding of how they could have done more to prevent the large break in. Update: the shitty insurance they require you to buy is extremely flawed in the renters favor. You are not legally required to provide anything other than a list of your stolen items that is as accurate as possible. If they say your evidence isn't sufficient, file a claim with the State Insurance Commissioner, and point out that the contract states that you are only obligated to provide whatever proof you have as long as you are honest. The insurer was very slow in responding and wouldn't answer questions about what exactly is sufficient proof. After you file your claim with the state, contact the person handling your case and demand their manager's contact information. Tell the manager to pay the claim and that you filed a complaint with the state. My claim was paid out within 2 weeks. read more

Worst ever. Our unit was broken into they won't cover anything unless I have pictures with the item and a reciept. The office said they would replace the 39 boxes slashed open. They changed mind and said I needed to claim on insurance lol. What a joke of a place. How can 70 units get broken into and they don't care. I'd been looking for storage all morning, finally settled on this one as they had the size I needed at a price that was way better than what was available closer to where I live. I expected to hear back via email in a day or two about the reservation (figuring I'd be lucky if the system worked at all), but I had hardly hit the "send" button when Sean called to confirm my reservation and make an appointment to see the facility. He gave me a thorough tour of the unit and access, and was great at the paperwork. So far, very happy. read more

RENTERS BEWARE! Shortly after renting storage space from this location our unit was broken into and nearly wiped clean. After reporting this to the (so called) on-site manager we were told that since the beginning of summer that burglaries were rampant. He couldn't have even been bothered to come back to our unit when the police showed up to file the report. The space next to ours was also hit, probably the same time as the door was practically left open still . Doubt management would even bother calling that customer to let them know of the possible break in...collect as much money as you can from them before they discover they have been ripped off and leave. Looking closer at the other units (units with hinged doors) you can see damage and what appears to be forced entry in to just about every other unit. The thieves simply pry open the door were the latch pin slides from the locking mechanism into the door frame. High number of thefts has most likely gone on here for years, and it wouldn't surprise me if it was an inside job. It is nice to see that they have done NOTHING to better protect their customers property, let alone their own by fixing these poor quality door locks. We immediately moved what little was left of our remaining belongings and closed our account. Way to go Public Storage. No options for ZERO stars here, that is what this company deserves to be rated. If you value your possessions, look elsewhere to store them! read more

Have rented 3 units here over the past 7 years. The units we have been in have been pest free, although I've seen packets of rat poison in my unit, so that may be why. We are getting ready to move so just moved to a larger unit. Sean and Zipporah were very helpful in assisting us in the move. I know the practices for gate codes have recently changed, so that may be in response to the break-ins. read more

Everyone was very helpful and the price is reasonable. The only thing I didn't like was the requirement to have renters insurance, which they of course sell on site. I wasn't told about it before I was signing papers and there is no reason for them to require it. I also rent at a high end storage facility that caters to art and wine collectors and they do not have that requirement. read more

We have been renting from Public Storage over 20 years at this place and the service is going down hill, they have changed their hour from 6 to 9, 7 day a week to 6 to 6 week days and on weekend 6 to 5 not very convenient when you get done with job at 5 and try to retool for the next day. We have called the district manager 4 times and he will not return any calls, great customer service. Found out today they have a major security issues at this place and that's why they have limited hour. Why don't you fix your security issues we all pay good money to use our units.Their Issaquah WA location is open from 6 to 9, 7 days a week. I have been checking around the Renton area and have found the same size unit running $120.00 per month less with hour for 6 to 9, 7 days a week, time to move after 20 years with Public Storage thanks for poor customer service. read more

BEWARE OF THIS LOCATION. IT IS NOT SECURE. I arrived after a month to find a valid PS lock on my unit but not a match for my keys. After speaking to both the property mgr. (Jamila) & district mgr. (Chanel Bennett) the only solution was to have lock cutoff and purchase a new one. As it turns out my lock was somehow replaced and my unit was broken into. The thieves appearently came back multiple times. Not only was there no mention/suggestion that I should pursue this as a possible robbery but, was given hard line that Public Storage had zero culpability and my recourse was to file insurance claim. They were adament that this was somehow my responsibility and buried their heads in the sand. After buying second lock from PS it was tampered with less than a week later. I had to rent a grinder to cut it off as it could not be opened with my keys & I was not willing to wait the requisite week for PS to do it. They have very few security cameras and several don't even work. The Renton police suggested this was an "inside job" and the thieves have free access to facility. Public Storage toed the greedy corporate line and clearly do not care about customers. I'm my opinion this is negligence bordering on criminal. Chanel refused to return my phone calls and left me feeling like I was the criminal. read more

My review is for the Newcastle/ north Renton location on 76th, just east of Lake WA Blvd. I first suggest trying to be a minimalist, but it is easier said than done... I find it extremely unethical that Public Storage decreases your access time (to access your own property) while continuing to increase rental rates. Please explain this business practice, in an ethical manner? I was told the 6pm Mon - Fri gate closure and the 5pm Sat & Sun gate closures are due to their new security system. HOWEVER, in response to Robert M's review, he says the Renton police suggested "the break-ins to his unit may have been an 'inside job'" [by staff or] people not subject to the consequences of being caught by a security system. So, if this is true, I question their purpose for the "security system" (whatever it is, and if it truly even exists?) Did Public Storage corporate responded to the customer complaints by deciding to "install a security system" and pass the cost along to the customers, when the security system will be of no benefit to the customer because the thieves are "insiders"? JUST SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT - while you're deciding how you want to spend your money. Also, for new customers to PS - they make you buy insurance if you do not have your own homeowner's/renter's policy (they'll STILL try to con you into buying theirs even if you have your own). AND they require you to buy their locks, so it gets EXPENSIVE quickly. AND DON'T FORGET THE CRAPPY ACCESS HOURS ("security system") - closes at 6pm on Mon - Fri & 5pm Sat & Sun. - makes it really hard to access your belongings if you work during the day. read more

Don't be fooled by the $1 first month rent. They have admin fees, etc. And then, after you move in, they jack the monthly price up by more than 10% and way above the normal, advertised monthly rent. So their advertising is deceptive and they get their money back plus in the end. read more

I rented a 10 x 15 to store all my things while I moved from one house to another that wasn't quite ready yet. First, the manager gave me the wrong gate code, when I told her it didn't work she was rude and said I didn't know how to do it. Then she waddled her lazy @@@ out there to try it and big surprise, it was the wrong code!!!! Next the 10x15 that we paid for was actually a 9x13. Yes I did measure it accurately. So nice to be shorted on space. Would not recommend this dump to anyone. read more
