Reserving my unit online was quick and easy. I received all my check-in information the same day and by the time I got to my unit I was surprised by how spacious and clean it was. I used to have a unit out in Arlington and paid about the same for less than half the space. The downsides: - No easy way to turn on lights inside unit - Nobody ever seems to be at the front desk - Entryway into unit is visibly broken which makes it hard to go in and out when carrying heavy items - Weird plastic strips hanging from the ceiling makes it even harder to enter unit after battling the broken door Sometimes it be like that. read more

This is a terrible location infested with rodents and mice. I lost all my household items, and there was zero support from Public Storage. This location doesn't have anyone on-site, and you have to spend hours on calls to reach a real person. On top of losing all my household items, they auctioned my tools and then send me an almost $900 bill or it will go to collection agency. read more

Beware unit size may be inaccurate. Our reservation was for 7.5 x 10 but what it actually measures is 7.5 x8.5. I understand sizes can vary a few inches but 1.5' short was a problem. We had measured our furniture and had a plan to fit in the space of 10' not 8.5! And price should be adjusted. Frustrating and haven't seen anyone in the office on any days we've come and gone. Terrible organization: unit, which was not have water on it, did - we had to block up our stuff; on line payment, which is confusing, caused a non-refundable late fee - and this after I my page said they couldn't take my payment because I was paid up - surprise, late fee! Overpriced as well. My family member, who selected this place, was in a hurry. I later shopped around - many other choices! And for less money! And not so limiting on hours of access. The staff at this office is excellent - they're kind, intelligent people and I enjoyed speaking with them. I believe Afridi is the manager and he's very helpful. However, TENANTS BEWARE, corporate policies are out to get you. You have to notify the company before moving out (not during move out) or they will charge you for the entire month. In my case, when I moved out at noon on the 2nd of the month, they kept $143 for 36 hours of storage. The district manager's answer was, "Too bad, it's in your contract." Pro-rating charges is the honest, respectable thing to do. Choose a company other than Public Storage. read more

Stopped by to get a price on moving boxes. I did not plan to buy. I just wanted to compare prices. Was immediately greeted at the door by Carlos. I told him I was looking at boxes. He was very helpful and polite. He helped me compare the cost of boxes versus buying a moving "kit". I don't recall ever running into someone so helpful and knowledgeable. He explained that some of their boxes were on sale and that you have up to 30 days to return any unused boxes. As a result of his help we bought our boxes in one visit. He even offered to load the boxes in our car for us. If we need additional boxes I would not hesitate to go back and buy them from Carlos. I highly recommend this location for purchasing all moving supplies. If we ever need a storage unit I will go back to this location. Truly a pleasure. Excellent customer service. read more

I visited this facility on a Sunday morning only half-thinking I would rent a storage unit. I was preparing to sell my condo and thought it might be smart to take a few of the smaller pieces of furniture and clothing items out and put them in a unit. But, since I am hoping to buy a small home, I couldn't afford to spend a lot of money. Afridi was the manager on duty and I found him super helpful. I snagged a great deal at a price I couldn't pass up. The unit was beyond clean and air conditioned perfectly. He walked me to my unit, made sure the passcode worked and went over everything in great detail! When the photographer came over along with my realtor today to take pictures they both commented it looked like a model home. I credit Afridi for making it so easy to rent and get all my items moved in there the same day! After three weeks I received a great offer on my condo and the staff let me know I could pull my items out since i was only 3 days into the next month. That was a big savings for me and I really appreciate how accommodating they were. There are always carts there and I am not sure how they keep the place soooo spotless. We had a very stressful move and needed the storage process to be easy. The managers of this Public Storage location accommodated all of our requests and went above and beyond to save us time and money. For example, we realized that we may need an additional storage unit--and didn't end up needing it--but the managers gave us a little time beyond closing to decide if we needed it. The storage unit itself is clean and easy to access. Only negatives were that the locks--which they provide (why can't we provide our own locks?)--were a bit tricky, and the lot allows access to landscapers and others to store their trucks at the back. Seems like there should have been a separate area for this. read more

Public storage sucks. I moved out on April 5 and they still charged me for the full month of April. The "free" months are also a scam. They charge you fees in the beginning. My unit was also not cleaned out when I moved in. Don't use them. 200 dollars gone down the drain. read more

We have been Public Storage customers for two years. The team at Merrifield has always been courteous and professional. During this time our rent increased twice ($150 total), which is standard for the industry. Tip: Be aware of your move out date and know that the company policy is to not prorate monthly rent. We are having to pay a full month's rent for 8 days of rental. We would have changed our move date had we known we would be paying a full month's rent for 8 days. read more

He was very efficient in checking me in (less than 10mins) and showing me around the property which was all in good, clean order. Everything was fine with the unit and access. Read your contract very carefully and pay your bills very promptly to avoid add-on fees (you will not be reminded until after fees are applied). If you get tagged with a fee that you feel is unfair, leave a negative review as this seems to get a better response than speaking with on-site employees or using the call center. read more

I am very dissapointed in the public stoarage in merrifield (Fairfax). I rented a unit and received an email after 4 months saying my rent was going to be increased by ~10%. It seemed odd that they would increase my rent after such a short time frame. I sent my friend over to check on availability of units that compared to my unit ie. same size, same location, and not temperature controlled. They were renting for 5 percent less than what I was paying. They are runnng teaser rates to get you in the unit and then increasing the rates quickly! I am sure this is in their contract, but seems deceptive to new customers. I can see getting an increase after a year or so, but the email I received seemed as though it was automatically generated by a computer to increase revenue. I talked with local the local property manager and he emailed the district manager but they were unable to keep my rent the same. They had a standard line "it is within our rights to raise rents..... blah blah blah. DO NOT RENT HERE! read more

I reserved a unit online, received a call to confirm details within minutes and arrived at Public Storage 30 minutes later to complete the paperwork. Afridi - the manager on duty - was affable and we completed a walkthrough of the facility and the requisite paperwork in short order. Both the unit and the broader property were very clean and appeared both secure and well maintained. Access is straightforward - gate code and keyed locks. While I would prefer 24-hour access, the gate hours have proven sufficient. read more

I was simply amazed at how helpful, knowledgeable, and courteous that Muhammad was. He was a joy to work with. He showed me where the unit was located, instructed me on how to get in/get out, and processed the paperwork in a remarkably fast time. Beware. These con-artists ripped me off by making me pay for a month's rent for an empty unit. I verbally told them that I was moving out on the last day of the month. I then went online and specified that I was moving out on the last day of the month. I then moved out on the last day of the month. The employees saw me moving out. I thought that was the end of the story. 8 days later I get a call about my account being overdue. I told the caller that I moved out at the end of the month as I indicated both verbally and online. He then told me that I had not removed the lock from the unit, so they assumed it was still occupied, despite SEEING me move out. I told them I was not informed that lock needed to be removed. For one, the lock is unusable anywhere except their storage unit lock. I went there and removed the lock and then he said I owed for the whole month, even though it was empty, because I didn't remove the lock. Now I'm out $500 for an empty storage unit. I highly discourage anyone from using this storage facility. read more

When I graduated with my MFA in Painting from George Mason University, I was left with a huge debt and fifteen massive paintings over 8ft in length from my thesis show. I had no plans to exhibit them again, but I needed a safe spot to store them until another opportunity came up. I found that Public Storage off of Merilee was offering a good deal to rent an air conditioned and climate controlled unit, so I hauled my paintings over and had them in a unit after only 10 minutes of paperwork! The price was reasonable (low enough for a poor painter to afford), and the unit kept my paintings safe and pristine for over 5 years!! On the few times I came to the unit to pull out a painting, the staff was always ready to help! I just closed on a house this past week, so I emptied my unit yesterday. Shane and Sourab, who were on duty, were incredible!!! I had forgotten my unit number and the code to the gates, so they gave me the information I needed! They helped me by opening the gates for me and even walked me to my unit. They were very generous with their time; they answered all of my questions and had the closing paperwork ready for me to sign so that I could clear out without a headache! Moving into a new house is stressful, so I am so grateful that Shane and Sourab made closing my unit stress free! I will return to this Public Storage in the future if I ever have a need!
