I moved into 2 units last year. They have since raised my monthly rent 2 times to about double the amount that I agreed to when I moved in. I will now have to move all of our stuff to a different storage company, and I am furious. You can't speak with any person about it in-person or online (their chat bot tells you they have high volume all the time so they can't transfer to an agent). Not sure what all the positive reviews are about unless customers were asked to provide a positive review in exchange for some underhanded offer. So far, I'm pleased with my experience with Public Storage. I found a deal online and there are multiple locations. Monthly fee even sported, which many storage places don't do. I had a final call corporation number in California, after I struggled panic for hr while moving truck is awaiting, time is ticking, had to pay them more than what it suppose to cost because of gate wasn't opening!! F***! 2nd floor moving, elevator is a super slow and storage space actually do not have lights so bring your own flashlight or something. I used this Public Storage location for about a year and had a great experience. I lived nearby in the Mosaic District and this unit was just up the road. In fact, there were 2 Public Storages closer (1 minute drive vs 3 minute drive) but this one has the best price. Check in was easy, move in was easy. There are elevators and carts to help you move your items in. The facility meets expectations in cleanliness, security, etc. If you live in an apartment and have renters insurance (I had State Farm) you should already have insurance to over your unit, no need to buy theirs. I would recommend to anyone in the area to store your items here. read more

If you are in the Merrifield area and looking for a storage unit this this Public Storage is a great choice and the price is right. It's on Lee Hwy just west of the Merrifield Post Office. I worked with Shawn for check in. Shawn explained all the rules, what to do and what not to do, ie. no storing anything flammable, or food products. Sounds logical but sometimes when your packing quickly things get overlooked. They will sell you a lock for your unit if you need one. They also have a variety of moving and packing supplies for sale right in the office if you need them for packing your storage unit. The place is well lit at night. Individual security codes for the gate to get to your unit. So far so good. read more

I came here not too long ago for a storage unit hoping for a $1 special. There was also a one-time fee of like $20 to get setup. Ok no big deal, this was the same price I got from another public storage a little further away from me. But the lady I said they have special locks and I would have to get 1 from them, for $19. I said I come in the next day. When I came the next day, there was a gentleman there. He told me I would have to purchase 2 locks, not 1, b/c the unit required 2 (This is not what the lady told me the day before). Then he said, if you buy the insurance, he will give the lock to me for free. RIGHT. Sounded like he was doing everything in his power to upsell me extra crap I didn't need. At this point, I was already there with my stuff so I didn't want to go to the other location, so I just paid it. I didn't like his tone or the way he basically forced me to buy insurance. So now I have these 2 stupid locks I have no use for. If you ever plan to get a storage unit here, I will sell them to you cheaper than the $19 each they sell them for. And I'm close to the location. Ordered space online. Arrived in the evening to unload a 15 foot truck. The space the reservation gave us had a lock on it. We had to turn around and go back home. We had to pay an extra day for the truck rental. The next morning the woman got a huge attitude with me when I told her we couldn't unload the truck because there was a lock on the door. She said she'd go check the space around noon. When I said we couldn't sit around for hours waiting for her to check she hung up on me. I called back and she hung up again. When she did go check the space she confirmed that it had a lock on it and she removed it. She then said corporate would not pay for the extra day we had to pay for the truck. She had a huge attitude. They never even apologized for their error or apologized for us having to take an extra day off from work to unload. I will never rent a space from them again. It's better to rent from a place that actually has an attendant there on site. read more

my first time using public storage.. it s#%ks.. the manager working their has nothing to do with his job. dont care for customers, dont give a crqp about anything basically. i waited to get an email for the gate access code for 3hrs. then the code wont work at the gate. called them 4 times to reset it and then the manager said , please come to the office which is q mile from the storage to get a nee code. ahh what? its a 6 digit code, you need my kidney for that? wasted 1more hour to try to fix it with customer service, and paid extra to my contractors for waiting. worst storage experience.. i would now rather rent a uhaul one way and you will get a free storage with it. read more

Great Service! We worked with Mary to check in and go over the paper work. She was a delight and very helpful during the whole process. The check-in was a breeze. We went over the forms, looked over our storage unit and got the keys. I took a star off because there were a few metal wall frames (the 2x4 ones) were bent out of shape and the concrete floor had the residual stains from some old oil/grease leakage. read more

You can never get ahold of the store manager if you have a question. Several times the person working there has been very rude to me and my wife. When we first got the storage unit it was at a fair price but they continue to raise the price. They do not keep the storage unit ventilated like they say they do. Summer it is really hot and winter really cold. There is a hole in on storage unit wall that if someone took the time they could break in it and steal our stuff. read more

The storage space was minimally acceptable and there is absolutely no customer service provided. The manager's office is almost always empty. I scheduled a move-out date well in advance and then removed all of my stuff before that date. I was also able to speak with the manager at one point and I let her know of my move-out. Now, Public Storage is saying that a 'scheduled move-out date' and an empty storage unit are not enough and they are trying to charge me for another month, even though I have an email from them verifying my move-out date. I called to get them to cease their emails and sat on the phone for 24 minutes without any answer from the customer service team. I later called back, calling the new rentals number. I got someone to answer that call within 20 seconds because it was potential new business for them. I then asked to be transferred to customer service. I waited for a few minutes and eventually spoke with someone. They told me that I had been moved out on 7/8/21 which was the day I complained via their online feedback form. So total failure from end to end. I recommend using any other storage company with a better rating. Good luck. read more

Helpful and courteous, we got set-up our first day with a new lock $20, and insurance for $11/month. They said these were required. Plus an administrative fee of $24/month to open the account. All things considered, with the first month at $1 special didn't feel like complaining about it and still got the first month with all the extra charges for about 25% of monthly cost. Rental unit was a large drive up and clean and easy to access. I had to cancel my card I gave them for payment and forgot to tell them but they gave me a courtesy call to remind me payment was due and I could change the card online. They didn't have to do that. Nice gesture to avoid the late fee. Overall the service is good and people friendly. Location easy to access. Extra charges I think are just the business. Get over it for the $1 first months rent people. read more

I have a unit here, and had to move across country on short notice. Once I moved, I gave notice to the property to terminate my lease by leaving a message in their voice mail (the contract said termination notice could be verbal). Nobody bothered to call me back until AFTER my credit card was charged. Multiple attempts to contact someone, anyone at the property all resulted in voice mail - nobody ever picked up the phone. I blocked their attempts to charge my credit card because at this point they were in breach of contract. Corporate has been even worse - I call for people and they send me to other people's voice mail or just disconnect me, people say they'll call back and never do. If I can get anyone to talk to me they just complain they were stuck in traffic and that's why they couldn't call me back. Well, it's been nearly a week since the most recent person I spoke with promised to call me back - nobody is stuck in traffic for a week! read more
