My experience at Prosecco, start to finish, made me feel like the queen of Chicago for an evening
Have you ever felt like you were in the middle of a really great classy movie? Thats the feel of Prosecco. Marble floors, dark wood, tin ceiling, curtains draped everso elegantly, candle light, crystal and impeccable service and food. Did I mention that the look alikes for JFK, Jr, Andy Garcia and Gavin Rossdale work there? Not in a kitchy impersonator way, just in a really great, handsome way.
Prosecco does it right, period. Even placing the reservation was great! When you dont know exactly when youre going to show up and the person taking the reservation doesnt get annoyed, you know youre in for a good time :-)
We arrived early to have drinks before dinner and were immediatley struck by the ambience. Its like a great European restaurant. We announced our arrival and told them we would be at the bar.
Enter JFK, Jr. Actually the delightful bartenders name is Robert. He makes a great coctail and interesting small talk, if you care for any. When our dinner time had arrived, I went to the host station and enter Gavin Rossdale, actually his name is Trevor. He let me know Robert was already on it and he would tell Robert when our table was ready. Talk about a well oiled machine!
A few minutes later, Trevor showed up to take us to, and seat us (yes, pulled out chairs) at our table in the front of the restaurant (sit there, its a better view of everything).
Our server, Guy, was the most wonderful host for our meal. He made suggestions from the menu and was extremely knowledgable about the food preparation. When we looked a little overwhelmd by the possibilities, he uttered the most beautiful phrase, in the most elegant Italian accent (did I mention he is Italian?) "Would you like for me to just take care of that for you?" I was so tickled by the idea of allowing someone else to take control of my palate for the evening that I may have screamed "Please, Yes!" and off he went, selecting 4 amazing courses for us!
We started with the Barricata (im so sorry if im misspelling that) It was a beautiful, creamy, air light, stuffed buffalo mozzerela with roasted nectarines, a pistachio creme and also some balsamic.
Second course... wait, another host stopped by the table to check and make sure everything was amazing. So... second course was perfectly cooked Calamari. No, not deep fried with marinara, but perfectly succulent pieces in a tomato ragout with fennel, I think?. Host stops again and we order another round of drinks...
Fourth course was a double hitter,... whoops, too many cocktails, we are only on three... Third course.. Grilled Shrimp with Saffron rice and also Orichetta pasta with the most beautiful garlic cream sauce, herbs and asparagus. At this point, I had to stop another server to ask him if anyone ever told him he looks like Andy Garcia... he was amused and gracious and said, they had (whew!). Im so sorry I don't remeber his name (Darn Robert and his tasty concotions!)
The final course was a knockout.... a sampling of Mahi Mahi, Sea Bass and Grouper, all perfectly done with an accompanyment of fingerling potatoes, green beans and tomatoes.
Chef Mark stopped at our table to make sure we were happy with our meal. He was an interesting character, as most chefs can be, and delightful to talk to. I noticed he was in and out of the front of the house all night, checking on his patrons. Good Chef. He clearly knows what he is doing and has hired staff that share his vision. We settled on another round and some lemon sorbet to cap off our meal. Like we needed another coctail.... LOL
Many, many thanks to the entire staff of Prosecco for an immaculate evening! Special thank you to Robert, Guy, and Trevor... you are amazing! read more
