While I could have probably been the first to review Prosecco, like a fine wine, I've let this review age appropriately, saving a place of honor (my 400th!) for this amazing and magical place!
First lets talk about the decor, shall we? Tasteful and elegant down to the drawer pulls. So much thought and elegant style in every single element of the design. I always feel so posh whenever I pop in and feel equally at home dressed casual or chic. However, it never fails that each time I leave, I want to redecorate with luxe fabric, tactile finishes and over the top lavish appointments.
Now that you're ensconced, lets move on to the drinks, shall we? A world class wine list is a moot point if the servers don't know the nuances of the wines and how they will compliment the food and enhance the experience, so make no mistake, these people know their grapes. So in tune with my palate, Giovanni, the rock star bartender pours me what he thinks I'll enjoy and is 100% spot on so far! Everything from Amarone to vermentino (an oft overlooked white wine from Sardinia) shows Prosecco scoured the boot to offer the finest wines at every price level. The namesake Prosecco, well we all know that you can't go wrong with bubbles, regardless of country of origin. Not a wine lover? No worries! Prosecco offers carefully crafted cocktails using only the finest spirits. Aged cognacs, Amaro, pear and Pama Martini? Of course! A perfect Manhattan? Absolutely!
On to the food, where my love affair began......those of you who know me know my background with Italian food, culture and dining. You know I know. And this is where I go. The menu has seduced me time and time again. Amazing salumi and delicious cheeses to the usual antipasti suspects, I've worked my way up and down this menu and always find the perfect pairing. Proscuitto di Parma anyone? Talagio? Risotto Crab cakes? Buschetta? Caprese? You name it, if they have it, I've tried it. All pure bliss.
The warm crusty bread with just a dab of EVOO could be a meal in and of itself but don't, I REPEAT,don't go overboard, you will want room for every last bite of the main event!
I am personally responsible for the Walnut Gorgonzola Gnocchi addictions of several of my friends. Like good dealer would, I start them off with a taste of "this little dish I love" until they're hooked and our forks are battling for the last delightful little nubbin of heaven. I've done it time and time again and I have no shame. There are some things a girl just can't keep to herself! Made with the above mentioned bread, this is not traditional in any sense of the word and that is what makes me love it all the more. Imagine the yummiest bread on the planet saucily dressed in a sultry Gorgonzola, a hint of spinach with roasted walnut accessories.
Onto the secondi! I've had the basil crusted chicken breast with portobello and mozzarella more times than I can count. The biggest, juiciest chicken breast smothered in delicate flavors its a win/win at my attempts at healthy eating while remaining decadent! I've devoured the tilapia, the fileto di manzo, a pork chop special, countless pastas from daintily decadent Orrichetti with Truffles to the pasta Bolognese with its rich, hearty, soul warming meat sauce. I've been known, on occasion, to fancy something I didn't see on the menu and my dalliances have always been accommodated by the world class kitchen and Chef Mark, who in my book, is pretty much elevated to Sainthood! Authentic Italian cooking using only the finest products available. This ain't your Nonna's red sauce joint, capisce?
Desserts have dazzled from the adventurous Goat Cheese Gelato to the humble Florentine favorite Tiramisu. Sorbetto and gelato are sure hits while the chocolate cake is decadent and divine. I've always saved room because, well, I know that I can't leave without a dose of dolce!
While Prosecco is perfect for a date or dining with the parents or a business deal going down, I am the first to recommend it for any private dining occasion. I have had the privilege of hosting several small events here and there is no better place in the city for an event. I don't want to talk about the private salon downstairs because I wanted to keep it to myself, but if you ask, they will tell you all about the sexy, swanky subterranean salon with Barolo red walls, silk and antiques so seductive that a few certain celebrity someones have been privy to private parties in this palatial parlor. But I don't sip and tell. Or do I?
Finally, the service. World class, my friends. WORLD CLASS. I've only
had comparable service two places in the world: Cafe Florian on Piazza San Marco in Venice and the Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok Thailand. Its not contrived, nor condescending, it is classic and accommodating, savvy and sweet. It doesn't get any better than that. read more
