I cannot say enough positive things about this place. The five stars are not only for the food- which is amazing. True Southern homestyle dishes. The desserts are simply everything a bakery should be in any location. They could open up a separate stand alone bakery and get the same amount of loyal customers. But, the stars were mainly because of the staff and customer interactions. Short Story: I witnessed an elderly gentleman on a cane get out of his car and walk to the front doors. A small family consisting of a father, mother and two young children were exiting. They smiled and stood aside as the father of the family held the door open for the older man to walk through. Once he was spotted the cashier behind the counter smiled and greeted the gentleman by name. He smiled and quickened his pace to stand in line. There was a young lady in front reviewing the menu. She turned and smiled and offered the elder to order first. She held up the menu with a smile stating she was still trying to decide. He smiled and thanked her. The cashier asked if he was going to have his usual and he smiled and said he would. The manager came from around the corner and greeted a few of the customers sitting at the tables before seeing the elder and greeted him by name with a warm smile. He asked a few questions about his garden and asked if he was going to stay or if he was taking his order to go. The elder stated he was taking it to go. The manager continued small talk and eventually walked away to greet a few more customers. Before I realized the customer's order was ready. The manager ended a conversation with one of his staff members and offered to help the older local regular customer back to his car carrying his small order. They could have been mistaken for a father and son in observing the care the manger showed to his customer. He returned back inside greeted a few more customers around the restaurant before returning to the back to speak to another staff member. The care and smiles the staff showed to all customers and especially the older returning visitors is so unique and it comes very natural to the people who work for Primos. It is so heartwarming to see. It is also something that it not often found in places. They truly care for their patrons and take the opportunity to know them and greet them warmly. The place is just an amazing place. It all seems very genuine in every experience I encounter here. read more

As I was about to hit the road for the driving back to New Orleans, I realized I was pretty hungry, and didn't want to just eat fast food again. I called up a friend from this area, and she directed me to Primo's. When I walked in what I found was better than I could have imagined. A decent sized menu full of Southern classics, prepared quickly and served to me at a counter/bar with a house made sweet tea. I imagine there was a time when places like this were more prevalent, but nowadays, finding something like this seemed like a special treat. An interesting concept. You walk up to the counter to order much like an average fast food place yet the decor is much nicer. The food choices are varied, salads, sandwiches, burgers, etc. My wife had the crab cake salad which was both presented very well and was delicious. A Prime Rib sandwich (not officially on the menu but always available) is a favorite of relatives who suggested Primos Cafe. My son enjoyed the sandwich and the Au Jus served with it. I've been going to Primos since I was a kid. Decided to try out the Primos in Flowood while visiting Jackson for Christmas. I only had the breakfast so I cannot review based on other meals. The food was very good. I had an omelet with grits and toast. The grits were the highlight for me. Same as I remember as a kid. Not watery grits, but those made probably with heavy cream. The coffee was actually pretty good and I'm typically a coffee snob so that is saying a lot. You order at the counter and they deliver it to you. There were plenty of options. Their service is excellent... the blue plate meal is okay for the price depending on the day you go.. Food is average but you get plenty for your order. My favorite is the Biloxi press (fried shrimp sandwich). Make sure to add the coconut cake, it is awesome. My wife loves their grits. My handicap daughter loves the fried catfish po-boy. My other daughter loves the club sandwich. Primos has good food, good service and clean restrooms (very handicap accessable). We were celebrating the To Be birth of our first Great granddaughter with our granddaughter and her husband--Service was very good- the home cooked chicken and meatloaf was better than Very Good! The facility was spic and span- very clean and the wait staff was exceptional- all with great attitudes- LIKE- they enjoyed what they were doing Gabby our server was so nice- very personable and accommodating beyond belief- to celebrate our special occasion- she just gave us 3 pieces of their strawberry and Italian Cream cake! Dropped in for a late Saturday breakfast. Be warned. Primos looks like a diner but it's not. You order at the counter then seat yourself. Had my hopes up for a typical diner menu but found the choices limited. I got the special breakfast quesadilla for a change of pace. It was served quick and hot. Tasted good. Staff pleasant and smiling but you miss something without a waitress. No milk for your coffee or water if you want. I hope their dinner menu is a bit larger. read more

I have only eaten inside a Primo's once in my life. I've had some of there food catered at Christmas parties etc. I guess its good. My complaint is this: a person with GI issues avoiding butter, grease does not have much of a breakfast option here. Wanted grits, but they all come premade and caked in butter, same with the scrambled eggs, and yah, the bacon and sausage are greasy too. Yesterday I ordered red beans and rice and have to say they were very bland, not seasoned well like no garlic, onions, and green bell peppers and some Toni's with a slightly thickened sauce instead of watery. Went with friend to Jackson, Ms. Tuesday and on the way home decided to eat at Primos in Flowood. Have not been here in years. Walk in a looked at menu and decided on the blue plate special. Ask your if they give a senior discount and sad to say NO they do not. Paid for dinner and took a number to put on the table for them to bring our food. My friend also got the blue plate special. My sides were Mac and cheese and cold slaw. My friend Got Mac and cheese and turnip greens. We got our drinks from a self serve bar and seated in a booth. Server brought food to the table did not say anything just set it down and walked away. First thing I noticed was the gravy (brown?) usually see white gravy on a chicken fried steak. But it tasted okay. Next tried the Mac and cheese very bland and somewhat dry. Also had cold slaw it was very good. To me not worth the cost for the quality of the product as a whole. Friend got chicken fried steak too. Was equally surprised by the gravy. Said Mac and cheese below standard but Edible. As for the Turnip greens he said, someone had stumped there toe, they were so salty after one bite he didn't try anymore. As for quaintly there serving were plenty to fill you up. Came in mid afternoon. Not many patrons, right off they mess up our blue plate order, no biggie, they forgot one of our sides. I ordered fried chicken strips and was given grilled, they happily replaced for fried even though I had to eat later than my party. I like primos, and try to eat here anytime we pass by. The waiter took an extra 15 minutes for me to get my catfish plate which looked like shredded catfish fingers for kids. It reminded me of the mutilated fingers of the handicapped guy who stuck his hand in the turkey from Scary Movie ( the funny version). Meanwhile I waited on the waiter to return with a cornbread muffin who forgot about. Someone else's waiter got management for me. His only response was, "well we have been a little backed up but I can get your cornbread for you." I had to ask him if I could switch out my meal at no charge smh. Who in the world would order just meat and bread. If I made a mistake in the order it probably due to navigating the website. Difficult. Stop selling the chef salad. The dish does not represent a chef salad. I should know, I'm a very good cook and has worked in catering. Maybe some changes are due. Re-evaluate the cooking staff and the "chef salad." I would give Primos, as a whole, 4 stars. The food is great. The vibe is pretty good. The bathrooms are nice. But I can't because of just one thing. Unfortunately, the bakery counter help makes me want to run out of there and never come back. Every time I've enjoyed my delicious meal, I wanted one of their amazing cookies or petit fours. In my mind, a bakery worker is jolly and nice. Why wouldn't they be, handling all that decadence in their hands? Well, the bakery workers at Primos act like they'd rather be shot in the face than deal with the public. They roll their eyes, don't crack a smile, and do not answer questions regarding their products. They get your stuff, ring you up, and walk off. It makes me sad. If I could go in there and eat without being tempted to get something from the bakery, I would. But I can't and every time I go in there I vow it'll be my last. I guess I could get someone else to go in and get me something from the bakery, if they could deal with such poor customer service. But it'll probably make them sad too.
