Went to order breakfast and proceeded to get skipped by 2 different families in front of the manager on scene. While the manager walked away, my wife informed me that she was told she couldn't sit and that it was in plain English that no one could sit. As she stated she had a medical condition, he proceeded to tell my daughter obviously mom can't read and walked away and went to other tables complaining about how she is. When I saw the Gingerbread Cookies on Home Town, I knew I had to find this bakery and place an order. We LOVE gingerbread cookies and haven't found a good one here. (California). I placed my order on line, which was super easy. I didn't receive my order so I emailed to ask, I received a call right away from Sonia. She is the best customer service person you could have! Walking through the doors, I was immediately impressed with the cleanliness of the restaurant. It's veryspacious, bright, and CLEAN! I was next impressed with how friendly and helpful the girl at the counter was. She greeted us with a big smile and when I told her it was our first visit she was happy to go over menu options with us and even offer up some of her favorite choices. I went with the blue plate special which was a choice of meat, two veggies, bread, and drink. Not a bad deal for $8.50 (with a drink?? Nice!!). I had the chicken and dumplings which were pretty good, but not so special as to make me really want to order them again. For my sides i had the cheesy potatoes and butter peas. The potatoes were too cheesy for me so i passed them over to the hubby and he found them quite tasty. The butter peas were actually small butter beans which were good, but a butter bean is just a butter bean. Hubby had the lone eagle sandwich consisting of turkey, ham, bacon, cheddar, tomato, lettuce, and mayo on a sub roll which he enjoyed. He opted for the potato salad instead of the fries which he didn't care for. Our meal was filling but average. They have a bakery in the back and a good selections of 3-layer cakes, cookies, etc. The desserts are on display and they all look yummy. We shared a piece of red velvet cake and it was so moist. Hubby and I almost fought over the last bite! They serve breakfast all day. They have free wifi. They have Pepsi products (always a plus for me)! They are not open on Sundays. There are other items on the menu I would like to try in the future like the turkey and dressing they offer on Thursdays. There are definitely other desserts I would like to try. read more

Traveling from the DFW metroplex to Laurel, MS, we had only one morning in Jackson for breakfast and what did my friend choose? Primos's Cafe. And an excellent choice it was. My first impression was that it was so large! In my experience, most really good breakfast cafes are tucked away in small places with minimal parking. Not Primo's! Although it's located in a strip shopping center with ample parking, it takes nothing away from the ambiance of the cafe. Once you enter, there are many tables, bar stools, and booths available (although I understand that on fried chicken day, they fill up quickly, so you've been warned!) Our breakfast was a basic scrambled egg, bacon, and biscuit with their specialty cheesy grits. If you're in the south, you'll be served grits at some point and these are delicious! The biscuit was perfect. Doughy on the inside but crusty on the outside, well worth the calories. Primos also boasts a thriving baking business. Displays of sugary treats line the display shelves. But we were having breakfast, no time for dessert, right? Wrong! We each ordered a slice of cake to go. And I can personally vouch that the Red Velvet Cake is wonderful. On our way back through Jackson, my friend stopped to buy some goodies to bring back to her family. Now that's saying something because Dallas/Fort Worth has many good bakeries too. By far a jackson staple and for many good reasons. From the atmosphere to the wait staff to the cooks to the food, everything is always great! The breakfast is one of my favorites in Jackson. Do not leave this establishment without eating the grits. During spring and summer they have blueberry pancakes which are to die for! The lunch menu will also leave you stuffed and satisfied. From fried chicken and curly fries to the Cobb salad, there are so many delicious options. Check out their blue plates- they're always a hit. All of the veggies are delicious- including the fried broccoli. If you take kids or picky eaters definitely suggest the chicken tenders or their grilled cheese which quite honestly is amazing in the morning with grits. The dinner menu is the same as the lunch however they have a dinner feature which is always something like redfish topped with shrimp. They also serve breakfast for dinner so if you love brinner this place is for you. Don't leave without looking at their desserts! The cakes are amazing, especially the strawberry and caramel. The petit fores and iced cookies are insanely good. They offer a grab and go section too which has some of their staples and can feed the fam. read more

I have eaten at Primos a few times since the change in ownership and each time it is worse. This morning I had breakfast and at 9:30 no coffee- the food was ok but the restaurant was not as clean and the beverage area was a mess. Following breakfast I checked out the bakery items and was also disappointed with the available selections. So sorry to hear they no longer make the individual pecan pie pastries. I will probably try Primos again but unless thing drastically improve I won't be going as much because Primos isn't what it use to be. read more

This is hands down one of my favorite places in the Greater Jackson area. Everyone is so friendly and they have an entire counter dedicated to dessert. Cake, chocolate whoppers (it's like a cookie), and the lemon squares, oh how I love the lemon squares. 3 food items on a deserted island? Primos lemon squares are on that list. I can't really say much about the menu as I always get the Club sandwich. The ingredients are all pretty ordinary but somehow this is a better club sandwich then I think you'll get anywhere else. Maybe it's the mayo or the cheese combo. It is a traditional 1/4 cut, toothpicked, triple decker, with the crunchiest bacon y'all ever did eat. I'm told the catfish plate is pretty fine too. I get to eat here so infrequently I'll stick with what I know. And the deserts. The lemon squares. The fries are good fresh but don't really make it very far in the to go box. Mmm-mmm home cooked goodness, and everyone in Flowood seems to know about it. In fact, the biggest problem with this location is that its TOO busy. When we went at lunch time we waited almost 15 minutes for a table, they are smart about it though and the waitresses take a number assigned to your order and stake out a table for you and you can't actually order food, or pay, until they have a table for you. They also fight off those trying to steal tables while they are still in line which is handy! I got the special of the day which was a lemon baked chicken, collard greens and mashed potatoes. The chicken was PHENOMENAL, absolutely delicious and my friend at the table was jealous of my order because her catfish was only so-so. The mashed potatoes were pretty tasty, but I was kind of disappointed in the greens. They had no flavor, and I'm used to greens cooked in ham or at least a flavorful jus from a meat. They were meh. Their bread pudding is a more dry bread pudding, not moist, but its very good. When I was there it had actually recently won a local award for best dessert! The italian cream cake my friend got was also pretty good and had a nice, rich cream cheese icing. They would easily be five stars if their sides were more awesome, but they are an EASY four stars and I am definitely a fan. read more

I wish I dined here more often. Nearly everything I have eaten has been great. Their breakfast is great! I love the biscuits and gravy (almost a meal as a side item). The portion size is big, but large enough to finish well fed. Lunch and dinner items are good too. They also have blue plate special daily. The sandwiches are good (try the Lone Eagle or Po Boys) and I've got a thing for those curly fries. Drinks are good, but they sell Pepsi products (for Southern folks, this might be a turn off). Desserts are outstanding. Key Lime Pie is tart and tasty and they proudly display the various cakes for sampling. Your belly should go away happy after dining here. The parking here is fabulous. The restaurant is sparkling clean, you will start by ordering at the counter, they give you a number, and then you pick a table. We picked a large booth for our large group. When the food came out it was relatively quick, took about 10 minutes, and was piping hot. As you could see from my pictures, the portions were pretty generous. The bakery on the side of the restaurant was wonderful as well. My two boys ages nine and 13 were both offered anything free from the bakery. Naturally this delighted them to no end, and they picked the largest, sweetest, creamiest, chocolate things, I ever saw. The portions were so huge, but the advantage to that was tons and tons of leftover cold chicken the next day. I would come back again just for this if need be, as it helped us stay full all the way back to our drive to Austin Texas. But of course there are so many other reasons to come back. read more

They should rename this place "Kenya's Cafe"... We pulled into a very full parking lot for a late breakfast/brunch and expected quite a wait, instead there was a very short line at the register and we quickly placed our order. 2 adults, 2 kids, and a 2 month old. We decided to sit at the bar so the kids could watch the kitchen/cooks. We were immediately impressed with the efficiency of the kitchen crew, the food runners, and the busing crew. We soon realized the woman in the red jacket was orchestrating this culinary chaos with amazing authority, poise, and also politeness. Her orders were direct, but not bossy. Urgent but not angry, and most importantly listened to without any back talk or attitude from the staff. She was organizing orders, talking to the kitchen and reminding people the phone was ringing (how she heard it I'll never know!) What impressed me most was how even in the middle of this rush she still made sure the store standards were being upheld. Constantly asking employees to please check the drink station, reminding servers that they always carry food on serving trays not just holding the plates. She kept up the standards even when it would have been completely understandable for the details to get missed. When she finally had a chance to breath I asked her name and she replied it was Kenya and when I complimented her and her team she informed me that she was an operations director for Primos. It's easy to understand why! Obviously Primo's knows her talents and that's why she has the position she has, but yelp users should realize not to judge a Primo's by the parking lot. If Kenya is working you can rest assured your meal with be fast, hot, and handled with an impressive amount of precision! Kudos to Kenya and the Flowood team! I held an office party and used Primos for catering. They were professional and on-time. I hear this is a Jackson staple. The food tasted good. I have not been into the restaurant. I have only driven by. I was impressed with the pasta salad and also enjoyed the banana bread. Coffee was great too actually! I have been a Primos customer for over 20 years, but I've got to tell you, the service at the Lakeland cafe has gotten terrible. We dined there at 6:00 pm today, a Friday. Most of the tables were not bused when we got there, and an hour later, they were still filthy even though they had at least 6 people working. One gentleman was walking around but didn't seem to be doing anything while others were busy delivering food. When we finished, I went to the counter to get a to- go box, and stood there for 8 minutes while the staff walked by while looking at me, and generally ignored me. One gentleman finally asked me what I needed and handed me a box, but didn't offer a plastic bag to put it in. This isn't the first time this has occurred at this location. I don't have any complaints about the food, it's consistently good, but the service is so disappointing. I recommend bypassing the Lakeland Primos and go instead to the Madison location which is markedly superior. It's such a shame to see a famous Jackson landmark deteriorate to this level. read more
