I finally got to try this new and acclaimed pizza spot, and it lived up to the hype. Stopped for a quick lunch, and love that they do pizza by the slice. I got the 2 slices & a drink, and my husband got the meatball sub. The bread on the sub was delicious and lots of meatballs but could definitely use more cheese. He could only eat half! I got a triangle slice of cheese, and it was delicious. Perfectly crunchy. The square slice was amazing! Loved that crust, and the crunchy cheese on the edge. I also liked the descriptions of the slices at the location. They weren't available on the online menu. I took photos of most of them, for you to see. The fresh brewed ice tea was also delicious. We sat outside, and it was very pleasant. As soon as our order was ready, they brought it outside to us. Also, it was after the lunch rush on a weekday so parking and seating were no problem. Prime Pizza has really been expanding quite a bit recently huh? They have seemingly doubled their location count in the last year, with the latest location in Altadena of all places. Seemed like the perfect time to try this location on a football Sunday! Although I do have a penchant for their white pizzas, on this occasion I went with the Supreme with added ricotta. Gotta have ricotta as it always makes every pizza better. The quality was as I expected. It ain't ever gonna be on the level of New York for New York-style pizza, but it's pretty damn good New York-style pizza for L.A. Very crispy and thin with quality ingredients. It is a bit on the expensive side, but you're definitely getting your money's worth in terms of quality. Staff here are really friendly! Came in, let them know I had a pickup order, and was out in two minutes. Only thing I was slightly annoyed about was that I had set a pickup for 1:15 pm and it was ready 10 minutes earlier than that. Had to warm up the pizza in the oven, but it is what it is. Prime Pizza always delivers and this location is no different! They have a great outdoor seating area as well, so I would definitely love to stop by and eat here when the opportunity presents itself. read more

Delicious pizza, but frustrating service and poor customer experience. I've been a loyal customer for years and regularly order the Vegan Spicy Pizza with light Calabrian chilis--a simple request they've always accommodated. Unfortunately, on May 24th, I was told they could no longer make any changes due to a corporate policy requiring two scoops, and that if there's no button for it in the system, they won't do it. I asked to speak with the manager, Andrew, and the interaction was incredibly frustrating. He interrupted me several times while I tried to explain that the full portion of chilis makes the pizza so spicy it's not edible. I told him that if it came out that spicy again, I'd likely ask for a remake. His response? "That would be fine." Instead of trying to help resolve the issue, he disappeared into the back and returned 15 minutes later to tell me he had decided to make the pizzas with one scoop--not because we came to an understanding, but just because he chose to. He also said the company is fine with customers requesting remakes rather than allowing basic customizations. That logic makes no sense--it wastes food, time, and leaves loyal customers feeling ignored. James's customer service was poor--his tone was rude and dismissive, and he showed little willingness to listen or help. When the pizzas finally arrived, they weren't vegan. I brought this to their attention, and the staff took the pizzas back to remake them. Honestly, I was surprised they accepted the pizzas back, since that seems unsanitary. They apologized, remade the pizzas, and comped the order, which I appreciated--but the entire ordeal took over an hour. And for reference, the two pizzas cost $86. While we were waiting, another customer nearby said he was upset they wouldn't let him remove parsley from his pizza--so this inflexible policy clearly affects more than just us. To be fair, the pizza itself is absolutely delicious--some of the best I've had. But between the long wait, lack of flexibility, and lack of basic customer service, I'm not sure I'll be returning. A buddy who worked on Wall Street highly recommended Prime Pizza and said it was as good as the pies back in NY. With that type of recommendation, I headed up to Altadena the next day to check it out myself. Placed an order for 3 pies and made the quick 10 min drive up. Didn't realize Prime was just down the street from another buddy's house. The parking lot is kinda small and only offers a handful of spots. However, there should be street parking nearby. Was lucky and snagged the last spot and headed inside. Had to wait a few extra minutes which was cool as I could see them baking 2 of my pies. For those that order individual slices, they happily reheat them in another oven off to the side. Sausage round pie - Definitely lives up to the hype. Though it's been a few years since I've been back to NY, this was damn tasty. Added garlic which elevated the overall taste in my opinion. Grandma square - Another great pie and probably will skip the basil next time. The crust was flavorful and had nice crispy edges. Spicy pep - Also added garlic to this which was great but damn it was hella spicy. Perfect for those than can take the heat but a bit too spicy for me. As others have mentioned, these pies need to be eaten hot. The slices were even tastier the next day after reheating in our Balmuda. Prime Pizza is a good solid pizza joint! I've been wanting to try them at some of their other locations, but glad to have finally tried them at this location. My fave is the white pizza and the spicy pep square pizza. You definitely cannot go wrong with either one of these! Prices are reasonable and they're pretty large, so it'll be able to fill you up. They have some really cool merch available too that are Altadena specific. If you come on a weekend, you can grab your coffee (Bevel Coffee currently has a pop-up here) and grab some pizza right when they open at 11AM making for a perfect start to your weekend. read more

First off, the corners--chef's kiss--crispy perfection. Covered in pepperoni like it was auditioning for a meat lover's commercial. However, the "spicy" part? More like a gentle suggestion. Don't worry, I'm resourceful--I sprinkled my own chili flakes like a boss. Then, there's the veggie slice. I approached it like a detective trying to solve the mystery of "Can this place even handle vegetables?" The answer: Heck yes. Between the kale, mushrooms, and garlic, it was so good I didn't even miss the meat. (And if you know me, that's saying a lot.) The Altadena location's got that neighborhood charm--most of the seating is outside, which is perfect for people-watching and pizza-devouring. Inside? Classic New York diner vibes. Finally found a gluten free crust that is soft and easy to eat! The only downside is if you put anything oily on it (pepperoni, extra cheese, etc.), the slices are very greasy. It is a small pizza with four square slices. The meatball sandwich is huge and very good. It is easily enough for two people. The non-gluten free pizzas are also very good. The price-point is a little high, but that is the case for everything at the moment. There is a cute little patio in the front that is perfect for a nice evening. It definitely has a family vibe, so don't give this a go if you are looking for a quiet or romantic evening. The only downside we found is the staff's attentiveness. One time we picked up things went well - food was ready on time, we were acknowledged as soon as we walked in, someone else made sure we were being helped while we were waiting, and the food came out hot. The second time we ordered delivery, which went fine (but, yikes, the extra charges were almost $30!). Our most recent visit we arrived 5 minutes before our pick-up time. We checked in and then after waiting half an hour, checked in again. We were told it was almost ready, but "almost ready" ended up being another 25 minutes. Meaning - our food was ready 50 minutes PAST our pick-up time. It was busy that night, but not crazy busy. One of the two pizzas was barely warm - we had to heat it up when we got home. We've tried out Prime a couple of times and will definitely be back, just hoping for an experience more like our first visit. read more

Tried out their gluten free pizza and it's pretty good. Their gf pizza comes in squares of like 10" size and sliced into 4 squares. They have gluten free category, vegan category, and gluten free vegan category. So keep that in mind if you do order in particular to accommodate certain allergies. I ordered their gluten free vegan Grandma pizza and ordered with extra veggie medley (which consists of mushroom, garlic, red bell pepper, kale, radicchio) and extra sauce. The gf bread crust was not super thin and came saucy and dripped when i lifted it up - which is supposed to be. Please keep in mind that if you do have celiac - to consult with them. They have outdoor bench picnic style sitting with some shades/cover. There are few parking spots in their lot but not too many. Found parking on the street easily. read more

I love a good pizza and I was hoping to love this too. But for me not this time. I had their gluten free. The positive was that it didn't taste bad or good , it was just ok. The negative was it was too oily, the dough was like rubber and I was questioning myself if this was gluten free cause the crust was too thick. Usually, gluten free crust is thinner. As a transplanted New Yorker, finding pizza by the slice in LA is near impossible. But I found it here. They have several kinds of slices of pizza. My two favorites are the white pizza (garlic, Parmesan, mozzarella- no red sauce) and Sicilian. This is square with cheesy crust, tomato sauce and laced with pesto. So good. You can also order whole pies. The restaurant dining is outdoors under roof shades. The vibe is cool, family friendly. You eat at long picnic tables. The service is quick; servers bring your food after you go in and order. Polite and extremely helpful. Salads are great too! Stop by and order a slice and a salad. Also try their meatballs. The atmosphere is great, outdoor seating with shade and heaters is nice. Love that they have both dairy and non-dairy / vegan options. We tried the vegan cheese, vegan sausage and kale, and the chopped salad. The vegan cheese was recently changed from follow your heart to be hive. While the be hive pepperoni and sausage are delicious, sadly the cheese lacks any flavor. The sauce is tasty. The chopped salad comes with romaine, radicchio, kale, red bell pepper, cannellini beans, pepperoncini, celery, persian cucumber, and house-made italian vinaigrette & parmesan cheese on the side. Sadly part of what intrigued me was the cannellini beans in the sadly, but it had none and no one said we are out of beans when I ordered. I also wish there was a half size option. I'm glad this place exists but we'll be sticking to more tasty vegan pizza options in the area unless they change the cheese they are using. read more

First, I've been here quite a few times, but I'm ready to give away my rewards points. I think I'm done for good. I really love the food. The pizza is great and their ranch/blue cheese dressing are really great. But I hate, hate, haaaaate their order pickup process. Tonight I ordered online at 5:48 with a pickup time of 6:08. I got their at 6:02 and put my name in at the door. The guy out front handling these pickup orders seems to serve no other purpose other than avoiding eye contact from angry stares during a busy time and shouting your name to a busy counter that doesn't even seem to be listening for names. After 20 minutes of delay I checked in only to have him ask my name again and shout it back to no one. At 30 minutes of delay I asked him for an update to just have him ask my name again and shout at no one..at 40 minutes I asked if he had my ticket, wanna guess what he did? Asked my name and shouted it back to no one. 50 minutes in I asked if they were tracking it and if I could get an update since I didn't see a receipt at his podium that had my name on it. He asked my name and shouted it backwards. At 6:58 I decided I can't wait an hour for pizza without some idea of whether they're even tracking my order. This time I passed the feckless doorman and went inside to try and get an update from someone else and maybe even a refund if no one could give me some idea of whether my order is even being tracked. As I approached the counter, my order came out, of course, nearly an hour after the online order said I should pick it up. Look, I get it was a very busy Friday night. If the system online had reflected at all how busy it was, I would have gone somewhere else or maybe just left later. But I drove down to stand around and get annoyed. Annoyed not because it was busy and everyone behind the counter was working hard cranking out orders. I was annoyed because of the useless handling of my request for an update. If you can't project the time it's going to take, say that. If someone asks if you actually have my order, please look into it. Instead I got nothing. To add insult to injury I mentioned I was trying to get a refund and the woman that handed me my pizza said "a refund?!?" in a tone mocking me. They're busy, I get it, but I don't have to deal with it anymore. I'm so done with prime pizza. It's good, but you can throw a rock in any direction and hit another pizza place. I'll miss the ranch, they won't miss me, but I'm not trying to be annoyed on a Friday night. That's offensive to the gods of pizza. read more

Ordered online at 6:30 pm and was told that my order would be ready at 7:00 pm. I drove in the rain and arrived at that time and was told that my order wasn't ready yet. That's fine I don't mind waiting a little. Almost 30 minutes pass by and someone finally from the back noticed that I've been standing around for a while. They looked inside the heated holding cabinet and took out a box with a bit of a concerned look and that's when I knew my pizza was ready the whole time I was waiting but the staff in the front never bothered to really check for my order. Recently tried prime pizza and it was delicious! I have a few spots that hold my heart but this was a great spot to try that was in the area! The spicy pepperoni was really great and it had a nice crispy crust. I love the location as it has great parking and it's more closer to a neighborhood. Overall solid pizza for the SGV area. They don't skimp on the sauce or toppings! I haven't tried the other locations but from what I heard from friends, this Altadena location seems more generous with the amount of toppings they gave. I'm sure the pizza tastes even better fresh but I had it a party where it had been in the box for some time. I still really liked the sausage kale pizza as that was still tasting really good after being in the car for a while. The kale is a good mix to the pizza! My favorite is the Sicilian, Grandma and White. I do like the square pizzas here more than the slice pizzas due to the extra crunchy edge! You have to eat it as soon as it comes out, it not as good once it cools down. I guess you can always reheat in in your air fryer at home, but I haven't had the need since I would just eat everything there. Lotsa outside seating so it's pet friendly! This is actually our closest location in SGV. On our recent visit we even try the meatball sandwich and the chicken parmesan sandwich. Whoa, that was definitely a game changer. Pros: 1. My new favorite is their sandwich. I love the chicken parm and the meatball sandwich. The bread is so amazing and toasty and not hard, not stale, not dense, and not dry. Amazingly it also holds for a day or two (because I always order too much) and it's still good later. Either the other locations don't have it or I never noticed, but I'll go all the way here just for this one item. 2. I love their pizza (esp. the thicker squares) because it is light and toasty and doesn't feel heavy or greasy. But, it is still satisfying. 3. So far all the people seem nice. Cons: 1. Not enough parking, especially for such a popular place at night, but even in the middle of the day when it doesn't feel crowded, there aren't enough places to park. 2. While the pizza is fantastic fresh out of the oven, I find that the pizza is not as good once it cools. 3. Though the original is good, the toppings/flavors on the square slices are too limited - would love a non-spicy pepperoni or some other combinations so that I can order more and have every square be a different flavor. read more
