Listen let me tell you this every dish my daughter and I had was a 10 out of freaking 10!!!!! That chef kissed that food just right !!! I had been wanting to try the place for while as we been to their sister restaurant "honey hole" nearby so came over to Prey and we did not leave disappointed at all !!! In fact already planning a return !! So beautiful and upscale looking ...... Check out our dishes below !! It was very quiet in terms of ppl Saturday at about 1240 but the playlist was perfect and the volume level just right !! Those suya lamb chops my God !!
We needed a place to eat before the Cowboy Carter concert so we checked out Prey on Post Oak and really enjoyed the experience. The dark, moody ambiance gave it a cool vibe, and the service was attentive and friendly throughout. The menu is on the smaller side, but everything we tried was packed with flavor. I mean, like, really packed. Seasonings and butter, my two favorite food groups. The salmon was cooked perfectly, the oxtail empanadas were good, and the mac and cheese was macin' and cheesing. Prices are on the higher end, but that's expected for the area. Bonus: it's right above Original Ninfa's. Great spot if you're looking for rich, flavorful food in a stylish setting.
I went on a Sunday for brunch, and it was a vibe. I will say the service wasn't great. Not that they were mean or anything, but it just seemed a little chaotic--maybe we had a new waiter or something. The food also took a while to come out. That being said, the food was absolutely delicious. The portions were a bit on the smaller side, but the flavors were great. Acadian Shrimp & Grits: 9/10 It was really good! I especially liked the incorporation of spicy andouille sausage and crawfish into the grits. The shrimp were nice and crispy, and the flavor was there. However, I do wish the grits had a bit more flavor and spice throughout, and they skimped a little on the sausage and crawfish. I also got a side of catfish, which was well-seasoned, though it could've been crispier. Surf & Turf: 9/10 It had pretty much the same flavor profile, although it was a lot more filling. The oxtail was mouthwatering and tender--one of the best ways I've seen oxtail cooked in fine dining. Overall, this place is great if you want a brunch vibe and some good food. I'd just recommend ordering an appetizer or side to fill you up. P.S. They also have a lot of great alcoholic drinks lol
This place is cute, but I wouldn't go back. The cheapest item on the menu was $47, and the food wasn't great enough to justify the price. The server asked if we were celebrating anything, and we mentioned it was our anniversary--but they didn't acknowledge it at all. It was a bit awkward. I ordered the lamb chops, which arrived pretty cold. They were served on a wooden plate with a bunch of greens, and the fried rice wasn't great--3/10. My husband got the hibachi pasta, which was disappointing as well--4/10. There was nothing "hibachi" about it.
Delicious! Very knowledgeable server! And they had hookah!!! An amazing playlist going. The chef came out for a second and he was hilarious. 100000% worth the price very very good
Prey is a fine dining restaurant that impresses from the moment you walk in. With a business casual dress code, it sets the tone for an elevated experience, so come dressed accordingly. We chose Prey to celebrate a birthday, and from the start, our waiter was exceptionally kind, offering great recommendations for both food and drinks. I opted for their signature lamb chops, which arrived as a beautifully plated dish of four succulent lamb chops on a bed of seasoned rice. The savory sauce drizzled on top was perfectly balanced, adding a rich depth to the flavors. During the day, the restaurant is bright and airy due to natural lighting, but in the evening, the lights are dimmed for a more intimate ambiance. One unique aspect is the open kitchen, which allows diners to see the chefs in action. However, being so close to the kitchen, it did get noticeably warm and humid in the dining area. While the open concept is interesting, we left smelling of the grill and barbecue - something I wish was less noticeable with a private kitchen setup.
Server was great, but the greatness stops there. First thing I was greated with was a leaky ceiling that dripped water on my pants. Ordered a Sprite to drink because the cheapest non alcoholic drink was a lemonade ($7) or a soda ($4). I assumed free refills--no, they don't have a fountain. They used cans, flight attendant style. You get a glass of Sprite that the first half of the can was used on someone else's cup an hour ago. Crab hash was okay at best. HEB hashbrowns that were soggy and oily and no crab in sight. And to top it off -- 3% credit card transaction fee. Not even gas stations do that anymore. Skip this place.
Came to Prey and sat at the bar for 2. Bartender was super sweet and we ordered a lychee martini and it was delicious. The ambiance was nice and they were playing great rnb music for the night. There was hookah available for outdoor seating which you have to walk by all the smoke/hookah to enter into the front entrance. (Probably not great for kids or babies to breathe in) Let's get into the food. (I've dropped photos for reference) - We ordered the oxtail empanadas and I was super excited for these until I broke one in half and I see 99% air and 1% oxtail. From the oxtail I was able to find, the taste was good so I was disappointed on why more than half of the empanadas were close to being empty. Mind you this dish was $16... for air. - our main we ordered the filet king. This was a surf and turf with crab meat, shrimp and scallop. Once we got our dish delivered, we noticed there was no scallop. We ask our bartender to check in with the chef and she comes back to tell us that the chef informed her that they ran out, so he's making us more shrimp. We were thrown off by this because we weren't told about the dish missing scallop until after we had said something/noticed it. The food runner who delivered the dish didn't mention a word about the missing ingredient. We didn't want more shrimp so we politely declined and asked for the scallop to be taken off the tab for the night which they did. Steak was on the thinner side but the flavor and sauce on the steak was delicious. Price was $75. - Side of Truffle Mash, great mashed potatoes, but there wasn't even the smallest hint of truffle.... Price: $11 Truthfully the food wasn't bad in terms of taste. It was just disappointing because the food was not as advertised. The food runners looked like they weren't approachable. And forgot to mention, the women's bathroom had no light switch. So it was completely dark with one toilet stall wrapped in a trash bag. We even tried to activate the light sensor by walking around and jumping throughout the bathroom but nothing happened. There was also an auto 20% gratuity which made no sense for 2 people at the bar.. we were not told of the auto grat until we checked the receipt. All in all, very overpriced for the way the restaurant operated.
My first time here at PREY . Drinks were A1 . No complaints on that . But let's get into this food . Starting with the crawfish fondue - literally it gave Velveeta with a can of rotelle and crawfish with melted mozzarella on top. The mozzarella cheese that was actually on top was barely melted.. I'm gonna rate that a 3 out of 10. For the oxtail empanadas when they walk out the plate, the oxtail empanadas didn't have any oxtail meat in it, but overall the taste was about a 6 out of 10. I really don't have high expectations. Don't label something as a fondue and it's not a fondue. They definitely could've did better with the empanadas but overall the drinks were the best part if I were to come back, I would literally just come back to sit at the bar for the drinks. See photos . Now, as far as service, our waiter was amazing and the ambience was on point, but I just need the food to match the energy .
If it sounds good, get it. This was the best experience. Drinks and food were fantastic. The DJ was dropping nothing but hits. The owner is so sweet and very attentive. We ordered a few things and EVERYTHING was superb. We need more businesses like this. 10/10 would recommend this gem

This is one of the best dining experiences that I have had in a while! From the drinks, to the service, to the food. I was impressed the entire visit. It is such a cool and chic spot. It looks very modern and new. They have all the trendy things you would see in newer restaurants including the grass backdrop with the light up sign, big mirrors for a photo op, and trendy furniture and art work. On to the food, I was so excited to try brunch here. I had the fish and grits. It was a golden fired catfish with southern style grits topped with creamy spinach, bacon and crab sauce. Now if you have been following my page for a while, you know how I feel about shrimp or fish and grits, so you know it has to be good for me to rate them a 5 out of 5, lol! I also had a side of eggs and was able to try out some of the wings and french toast. Everything was delicious! Of course brunch is not complete without the drinks right? The mimosas are great! They do have a flight available with a variety of drinks. You can choose from the strawberry, blueberry, pineapple, more. They were all good and strong. It's $50, but well worth it. You can also share it as well. If you are in Houston, I would definitely recommend trying them out!
The ambiance and service were great! But the food was lacking. Majority of our meals came out cold and we had to send them back. The food was pretty bland especially the Imperial Salmon. It also took forever to get the bills. The drinks are also very pricey.
I would give it a solid 3.75. I like the food, the drinks (mimosas) were fine, the vibe was cool & the service for us was good. Idk if I, personally, would come back on my own accord but if someone asked me if they should go I'd say yes. We came at 12:45pm on a Sat; I'm not sure if that's after the brunch rush but there weren't many tables sat. That may be a good thing because it's kind of small in there. I also loved the fact that your whole party doesn't need to be there to be sat for your resy, a restaurant trend that I HATE. I digress. As stated, our waitress was good, we didn't have to wait long for service or drinks or food. I ordered the catfish & grits and it was very tasty. The grits do overcrowd the plate, which was a no go for a friend who got the shrimp (only had like 4/5 shrimp) & grits. A couple others at our table ordered the chicken and beignets. The wings were a bit small (came w/ 2) and the beignets were basically donuts instead of traditional beignets but the plate itself was also tasty. The ambiance was cute & chill. Playlist was kinda lackluster but it wasn't too loud that you couldn't talk/hear. For an older millennial, this is nice lol. Nothing to blow you out of the water but overall a good spot to check out, esp if you're already in/near the area. read more

I was so excited to try this place but had a pretty terrible experience from being seated to lackluster food. I absolutely rarely leave bad reviews because I tend to hope maybe a restaurant/establishment is just having an off day, but this experience went beyond an off day. First let me start with the pros because they are so minimal. The decor was nice, the prices for brunch were reasonable and our waiter, Angel, was very polite and apologized for poor service. Cons - We made a 2pm reservation and were sat immediately when we arrived at 1:55pm. The waitress took us to a VERY BACK corner small table that looks like it was added last minute for extra room in the facility. She stated it was the only available table and aggressively told us to "be patient today" Abs quickly walked away. We were less than 3 feet from the kitchen door and photographer station. So there was constant in and out traffic where we were. The photographer was right next to us for about 80% of our meal and there were several arguments between the cook, the waiters and a hostess within the 2 hours we were there. That alone made for the worst and most unpleasant experience. So we're finally seated, it literally took 50 minutes for us to be approached or asked if we had been helped/needed water. We got there at 1:55pm and got our waiter, Angel, at 2:50. We were so over the experience but literally did not have time to go anywhere else for brunch. We ordered everything at once: drinks, food, water. We got our drinks about 20 minutes later. We ordered the Jungle Juice (which is listed wrong on the menu as a Paloma or something) and an Old Fashioned. Both of drinks were disgusting and taste like syrup. The jungle juice just taste like lemonade and blackberry syrup and the old fashion taste like a premade mixture with no liquor added. We did not drink/finish them outside of the initial sip but did not go through the hassle of sending them back. Next the food, which came out about 50 minutes after ordering. I will say the cook himself came out and apologized because he stated they sold more food than they had on hand . So he had to try to remedy by making more and that was the long wait. I had the chicken and waffles. My partner has the oxtails and grits, s side of bacon and a side of eggs. My chicken was seasoned perfectly, but the waffle mixture was awful. It was huge chunks of sugar in the mixture which made it inedible. Again the chicken was cook nicely and seasoned well. The oxtails and grits were EXCELLENT, but the side of bacon was fried so hard we didn't eat it and the eggs taste powdery. I left all my waffles on the table and he left the eggs and bacon. We immediately got our check and left feeling completely let down. We ALWAYS tip, but there was an automatic 20% gratuity added to our bill. We felt the $21 was MORE THAN ENOUGH considering the downright horrible experience we had. I'm unsure if we picked a really bad day or what, but I definitely would not recommend this place or be visiting again. Unsure if they're new but they have several kinks to work out read more

Oh my gosh this restaurant and service was SUPERB! If you haven't been please go. The Manager Herb was so accommodating to our group and the staff was very professional. So happy my friend suggested trying this place. (Thanks to Instagram). Reservation process was easy for party of 3. Upon arrival, parking lot was open and fairly early (12 noon) so we beat Valet. We were instantly greeted upon arrival into the facility and seated quickly. Our Waiter Noah was personable and super friendly. All 3 of us ordered Flights of Mimosas but be prepared to pay $45 each (I didn't read the menu in advance so was caught off guard with the price). Overall, I wouldn't change that because they were GOOT honeyookay . Alcohol to juice ratio was on point. Normally I don't like facility to mix for me but they did good here! We ordered Fish & Grits, Lamb chops & shrimp & grits. Everything was great! I especially loved the sauce over the grits. Grits were creamy & flavorful. The fish & shrimp were fried to perfection and didn't taste fishy so that let's me know that it was fresh. The lamb also did not taste gamey and grilled perfectly. We didn't feel rushed to eat & drink so overall a nice environment for us to talk, Laugh & Catch up! Will def be back the next time in Houston. read more

Vibes Ambiance Service Now let's get to the heart of this restaurant. Over priced in my opinion. Most dishes average $45 a plate. The food quality was very subpar. This is a place you would come for a good drink and vibes. Drinks average $18 a drink. Food is beyond average and needed seasonings. For two people we paid the price of what we would pay for a fine dining experience. And this was not. The best dish we had was the Brussels sprouts and the drinks. Seating is very intimate and limited. The venue is not large. The night we went the smoke from the kitchen makes it looks hazy inside the restaurant. There were celebrations happening within the restaurant. Very family friendly restaurant. Again, the food was very subpar. Food looks good but don't be fooled by the looks. Definitely give this place a try but don't have high expectations about the food. read more

I enjoyed my brunch experience! The staff was very friendly and attentive! Gladys was a great server. The vibe is very much grown and sexy! The decor was for sure my favorite! We came in early so it wasn't packed at all and as time past , it started to get packed but we were still very much comfortable!! I had a rose sangria, it was very refreshing and was a pretty drink! The catfish and grits were yummy! They weren't the best I've had BUT they CERTAINLY weren't terrible!! All and all it was a great time with great energy and definitely would love to come back! read more

We dined here for my husband birthday our waitress name was Kalynn her service was horrible, she told me all of the food would be on 1 bill that was fine, but she would give everyone an itemize bill well she lied and didn't deliver. I ordered the King Cat the boudin rice was mushy and cold all of the food we ordered was extremely spicy. I would never ever return to this place. Our bill was $602.14 including $93.90 gratuity I asked for a Manager a guy with dreads came out the kitchen and I explained the situation to him and he advised me to separate the party bill with the calculator on my phone (huh), after I spoke with Raequan (Manager) I had to ask for a PAID receipt as well, Kalynn never came back to our table. I choice this place for a pre birthday celebration with my girls and I am glad I did. This place is black owned and has a really cute vibe. The restaurant is smaller than I thought. This is a great place for a date night or dinner with your girls. I would recommend all the appetizers but they need work on the entree. The salmon was good but came out lukewarm and the asparagus were very hard. I took the meal home because the appetizers filled me up more than I thought. The salmon was good the next day. read more

This restaurant is beautiful. Definitely makes a great date night especially for pics. As far as the food, from the few items I had, they were good. However, the price does not match the food experience for me. Neither the drinks. Again the drinks are good but not worth those prices. And the bartenders seems so overwhelmed. The last drink I had was sloppy. She missed a key ingredient but caught it before she gave it to me. It was clear so I was able to see other purple drink particles in it. Then when my friend was not pleased with her blueberry martini, another bartender was kind to fix it. But the original bartender was questioning her what was the problem and seeing to take it personal. For those prices I expect to get neat & excellent drinks. I also don't care for how closely the drinks were made to those sitting & eating at the bar. It's just too close. I really hope things can continue to improve with Prey. read more

I have been waiting to try out this restaurant for a while now and finally got the chance to do so with my husband. While the outside entrance was a little underwhelming (door is directly across from patrons on the "patio" seating) once inside the ambiance they promote is sort of there. Seating is limited so I would say this restaurant is best for more intimate parties, however a group of 10 would be comfortable. If you are okay with sitting close to other guests then this is your place to be. The menu is a QR code which is nice and the specialty drinks and liquor choices are good. I tried the Blackberry Lemonade with Cognac and my husband had a whiskey sour with Jameson. Both were delicious. For our appetizer we tried the shrimp and crawfish fondue with homemade chips and I must say it was quite tasty. I also ordered the Filet King. The steak was very juicy however the "scallops" was one scallop and they gave me shrimp instead which was a bummer. The butter poached crab was barely noticeable with the tiny slivers they gave me. This did not take away from the taste of the dish just the description. Service was amazing and Angel made our visit enjoyable with how attentive he was. I did notice they have happy hour from Tuesday-Fridays with drink and appetizer specials which is nice for an after work stop. Overall, the food, drinks, and service were good but for the price and atmosphere, it may not be worth it to some. I will leave the choice up to you foodie!!! read more

This establishment was underwhelming and is not recommended for those who have a stomach sensitivity to pepper. Everything is made with Cajun spice. I asked the waitress what doesn't have pepper and she replied, water. The establishment could do better with modifications to their food. Also, you cannot substitute anything. If you want to substitute rice for mashed potatoes, please keep in mind you will be paying and additional fee. Also, for the prices of the food it should have been much better. read more

Okay so there is definitely good... bad... and ugly when it comes to dining at Prey. For those who want a quick recap, don't waste your money because the food, drinks and ambiance are not worth the price. For those who like a full recap read on... We came to dine here for my BIRTHDAY dinner which also happens to fall on NYE, made reservations almost a month in advanced and were super excited to try a black owned "steakhouse/ fine dining" restaurant. After looking past the Instagram-able decor, prey was none of this. The music is controlled from the host stand, and if an employee doesn't like the song or station that is playing they will just change the music mid-song. It was the weirdest thing continuously hearing half played songs and playlists. The menu is very limited, with no substitutions allowed. *beware if you have any food allergies* One single margarita is TWENTY DOLLARS. Yes you read that right, not a grande size but a small cup full to the top with ice is priced incredibly steep. I was told the tequila in my margarita was don julio añejo but couldn't taste the tequila at all. The table next to us sent their food back to the kitchen before we got the chance to order, which should have been our sign to leave after the appetizer. We ordered the Oxtails and shrimp, as well as the Lobsta Pasta. Both servings were very odd in size the pasta being a huge bowl of just garlic butter angel hair pasta with one lobster tail on top and the oxtails being just shrimp and oxtails no carb or veggie added to the plate. The presentation was nice, and the flavors were good just completely over priced for the quality of food. While I wished there would have been a complimentary dessert offered, or even a for purchase dessert offered there was none of that as the owner was too busy shooing people out of the restaurant to make room for his private New Years party. Our service was great, though there was barely anyone in the restaurant on New Year's Eve. However, for a fine dining establishment, it truly bothered me the staff was allowed to wear "traditional sneakers"such as vans. This would not be allowed at any "similar" caliber restaurant (moxies, papadeauxs, Cheesecake Factory etc.) which I might mention each of the listed restaurants would have been cheaper for more food and substitutions. Fantastic vibe! Wednesday 8:30pm Located in the galleria area. This has nothing to do with the review on its own but more so to do with me. It always surprises me how many gems. Houston is fantastic, diverse, unique, and packed with attractions and restaurants. I think this area the restaurant is located in falls into that description. The restaurant is upstairs. If you're not familiar with the area, they have garage parking on the opposite end. It wasn't packed on this night but walking in can be interesting because you are walking between tables just to walk into the restaurant. The atmosphere & vibe was upscale with touches culture. So, great music playing softly so not to drown out conversation, large pictures, aesthetically pleasing light fixtures, and beautiful ppl enjoying themselves is what you will find. Perfect place for a middle of the week date night. If you're into that sorta thing. I don't believe it is mandatory to be in ball gown and tuxedo, but I do think they expect a certain decorum when dressing to attend the restaurant. Which I enjoyed. I love being in a space with well dressed and beautiful people. Prey provided that. Service was cool. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the dishes and the favorites. He made great suggestions towards drinks and tried to steer us in the right direction as far as entrees. Both meals were savory, filling, and very deserving of being favorites of the restaurant. I'm not a food connoisseur so you have to take my opinion as a grain of salt (minimal). My catfish was layered with fried shrimp on top of a bed of boudin rice. All delivered with a cream sauce. Savory is just a great word to describe all the flavors that were infused within that meal. I personally recommend it. The oxtails also had a cream with it but between the two meals I favored my catfish. For upscale, I thought that price point was fair. Came here for my birthday dinner Easter weekend with a friend from out of town. We had a reservation for 7 pm, but were asked to sit and wait until maybe 7:25, which was strange because there were several open tables. Once we were sat, I ordered a peach margarita and my friend ordered a rain water. Both were pretty good, though the menu description did make it seem like the margarita was made from fresh peaches, and it was not. We ordered the Crispy Cajun Rolls and the Lobsta Pasta to share. Both were delicious! Service was deeply mediocre. 3/5 for service, 5/5 for food! read more

Went to Prey today for the first time! Our waiter was Noah! He was such an excellent waiter! Nice and patient when we took a while with our order and just went above and beyond with our table. The food was so good! We got oxtail and grits, watermelon and chicken and waffles Plus honeysuckle drinks. Everything was just so so good! We will definitely be back soon! read more

If you haven't tried Prey for dinner then check out their new Brunch menu. I tried the Crab Trap Hash and it was delicious. I wish there was toast included or even offered as an a side item on the menu. It would have been a perfect addition to the dish. Hopefully the owner or manager will read my review and add it to the menu. There was ample parking and there is also valet available. I will certainly return to try their other Bruch offerings and check out their dinner menu. read more

OUR SERVER STEVEN WAS AMAZING!! Now on to the review Free parking in the garage. Park by the orange elevators. Don't be like me and use the wrong elevator and end up walking a mile in 4 inch heels. Ambiance nice. Tables were too close together. Like imagine your favorite Auntie with the plushly decorated house in the hills living room that fits 20 comfortable now has 100 people in it. It was so tight I could hear the person beside me breeving. Anyhoooo. Drinks. I had the blueberry sidecar. It was like kool-aid. Didn't taste any liquor whatsoever and sidecars are usually STRONG. Food. We both had the oxtails with Brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes. Delicious. Oxtails were fall off the bone and the Brussels were "insert chefs kiss" . Service. Food took about 40 minutes to come out but Steven did a good job of letting us know what was going on. I'll come back soon and get the lobster pasta. read more
After looking forward to trying a new restaurant, it was quite disappointing. After being seated and what they called the patio area by the by the hostess we had to continue to ask for things that should've already been given to us, for example silverware, napkins, and a variety of other things after giving your credit card for a reservation your credit card is requested again, of course at the time of the meal they say there are two different systems with everything going on. It can be a little concerning handing over your credit card information multiple times at one restaurant on the same visit after receiving our food the presentation was disappointing. however, the food was very flavorful, one meal with the salmon and rice maybe tablespoons of rice was given and for that size plate, and price point it almost looked humorous. I had the accent oxtail surfing terms, which they consist of two large pieces of beef off of ox tail and over cooked 2 tablespoons of cabbage, and a cup of watery gravy ,no rice . My dining companion and I said there must be a rice and cabbage shortage , By this time we requested to speak to the manager who humored us by listening to our concerns . read more

Omg I believe the waitress we had was named Kyla ! She was amazing and me and my party were celebrating a birthday and it was her first time in Houston and Kyla made it an amazing experience. The food was perfect ! Everything was worth the price. The drinks were strong and delicious. She even made up for spilling a bit of my drink on my phone with a shot which I was not expecting as I was not tripping about the hiccup. Kaylynn was a beautiful soul with warm energy. I look forward to hearing her sing. I think live performance would be a really nice touch to this classy vibe/scene I returned here for my birthday, since I couldn't received the birthday dessert Carl and Shawn was raving about (bread pudding) since it was late and the kitchen was either closed and sold out. Tonight I was told they don't do birthday dessert for comp. Oh okay. (I drove from The woods of Katy for the sold out egg rolls, I wouldn't do that again) Anyway I tried the egg rolls $18. My bestie was not impressed at all. I wouldn't order them again. We both agreed that you can definitely taste was a plain crawfish-y flavor notes. And the size of portion for $18 not really worth it. The sauce served with the egg rolls, didn't compliment it much for my taste. I'd prefer the (5) boudin balls from Kamp for $9. The fondue was a pleasure again. Even my friend Jessica approved, and she's a big complainer if it isn't correct. She's creole and difficult to impress. Surprisingly she paired it with the egg roll sauce and was more than pleased. (Even my creole cousin said it was missing one of her spices, but nevertheless it was good). Serve more chips with the fondue. If you have to wait for more and the fondue gets chilled it hardens and that's not cool. I'll return once the hype calms. I'll explore other options, maybe then the menu would've expand. Tonight a dessert was added (peach cake) didn't really matter I didn't try it anyways. Nor did I see any being served I would like to view the bread pudding or peach cake, before selecting. read more
