It's hard finding a good mechanic in Brooklyn that's honest and does a good job. I thought I had one, but after $1000, two trips to their garage, and a problem still not fixed, I had had it with my old place. A friend recommended Precision and I have to say, I was very happy with their work. The main thing for me was that Eric listened to me as I described the problems I was having with my old Jeep and actually took it for a road test to check it out. In about 24 hrs I had a new engine mount, front engine pipe, and front brakes. When I came to pick it up, he showed me the old parts and what had happened with them as well as answering a bunch of other questions I had. I left for a road trip up to Vermont the next day and it ran like a champ. The price seemed very reasonable, and he checked in with a phone call to see if everything was good. The only thing that would be nice is if they applied the $65 diagnostic fee to the total repair cost - but really not a big deal in the grand scheme. As long as you're getting a fair price, good work, and a high level of customer service, what more can you really ask for? As the owner of an older vehicle that often has to replace old parts, I'll be returning to Precision whenever something comes up. Highly recommended! read more

Hands down the best and most honest mechanic i have ever, ever encountered in my life. Though this proclamation may sound too good to be true and too promotional to be a honest review....but the simple truth is i have never in my life experienced a mechanic who is as good, as honest, as Eric at Precision Transmissions. And as long as i am in NY i wouldn't dare in my life take my car anywhere else in NY if i can avoid it. As we all know one of the toughest things about finding a mechanic for those of us who don't know cars very well is finding an honest one. because if you don't know anything about cars, you really have no idea if what they recommend you really need, how serious it really is, what is needed and what is superfluous, and for that matter what they are talking in general sometimes! Eric not only is straight-forward and clear, but he always seems to try to find the best and least expensive option for you. And when he can save you money he will even when he doesn't have to and you have agreed to pay more (i have had more than one occasion where he quoted me a certain price, I agreed to the service, and he actually came back and reduced the price because he figured out how to do it cheaply or in less time. Pardon my cynicism with mechanics...but this is simply amazing! Perhaps there is a better, more honest mechanics in NY. But if there is i have never met him. And based on close to 6 or 7 years using Precision Transmissions over 2 different cars, i wouldn't even bother spending the effort trying to find one. Because one need not look any further. After 24 years of driving in major cities across both coasts, i have literally never dealt with a mechanic who is consistently honest and i entirely trust without second thought. Finally a trustworthy mechanic! I'm new to Brooklyn and had to get a state inspection. Based on reviews and the fact that it was really close to me, I chose Precision. E. was super kind, honest and did not haggle me. I am currently in the middle of another claim and he gave me a heads up on what to expect from insurance agents. That was greatly appreciated. I did not feel scammed, and E was courteous the entire time. He even yelled at one of his delivery guys for making me wait because I also had my 2 year old with me. Haha. I always like having options and E did exactly that- told me what my options were, so I never felt pressured to do something. I ended up having to get my wipers changed (haven't changed them in 3 years lol) but he told me that the brands he had were still expensive even though they're after market. He said I could get the actual dealership brand which was $11 more if I want or go check out a major store to get a better deal. I respect that kinda honesty. I always find it so nerve-wracking taking my car into any mechanic in this city: I never feel like I can trust anyone or that I'm getting a reliable opinion. Thankfully, my experience with Precision was A++. The whole process (diagnostics, new belts and battery- including ordering the parts from a local source) took about 2 hours on a friday afternoon before closing, which I feel is incredibly reasonable. After a few days of freezing cold, the belts began to squeal when starting the car. I called Precision and Eric (Owner) accomodated me immediately, and they tightened the belts with no hassle or charge. I was in and out within 20 minutes. This business is a definite find! Precision Transmissions is the only place you should take your vehicle. They are not only knowledgable and up to date on the specs of repairing any vehicle, but also respectful, honest, and kind. Eric (and also now Stephanie) are the main front end staff who are able to assist you and answer any questions. They are speedy yet precise and are amazing at handling tough insurance problems. I first started going to Precision last July when I moved to Brooklyn and needed an inspection. Eric got me in same day and was polite, easy to work with, and he let me ask many many questions. The next visit my car door had frozen open during the freezing temperatures last winter and they helped me thaw it out and was able to drive it again within an hour. Once the car completely thawed and we learned the door handle had broken (from my repeated attempt to slam the door shut) they worked with the insurance to get it fixed in as little time as possible. My door handle is good as new and has worked fine ever since. Of course a month later someone hit me and I needed repairs again. Insurance caused several problems and the team helped me get my car in proper order without skimping on incorrect parts as the insurance mis-quoted. They made sure to get the correct parts and color matched the new parts so perfectly you couldn't even tell when they show you. Eric and the team now know me well and help me take care of little problems like fuses and the essential tire changes and oil changes. Usually I call in advance to schedule an appointment but depending on how busy they are they try to get you in same day. End of the month is the hardest of course because that is the busiest time for them so cut them some slack if you need something asap. But really. You can't beat the honesty, customer service, and quality anywhere else. I will always go to Precision Transmissions, even if I move slightly further away. Trust them and ask them questions. The owner and staff are all so nice, and I ended up having to them change a belt as well while I was there that I already knew needed to be replaced. Edited to add the following day I get a call from the shop that they forgot to do the tire rotation and to bring in the car. It was before the shop was to be closed for a week so my partner rushed the car over and they were told it would take less than an hour. After a full morning of waiting there they finally had rotated the tires but destroyed a hubcap in the process and charged a lot more than a competitor had priced it as a few weeks earlier (we couldn't get it done at that time as we got an oil change and were in a rush to get somewhere). So there were definitely pluses and minuses doing business here. I think there needs to be better communication with the owner and his staff about what work has been completed. read more
