I know nothing about cars & seldom need to use a mechanic / repair shop, so I was looking for a place close to Bed Stuy to take my 2007 Lexus that wasn't starting. Plenty of places in Brooklyn have lots of bad reviews, so I went with Malibu due to their lack of abundantly bad reviews. Diagnosed as a rat-chewed wiring harness. Estimated at $390 to fix, which is exactly what I paid. Bit skeptical around how much work/time was actually involved (e.g., I'm a dude who knows nothing about cars & it could have just been a loose ECM wiring plug or a single chewed wire), but at the end of the day, my car is now running perfectly & I didn't have to spend $1k+, so I don't really care how much time actually went into it. Full wiring harness replacements can be thousands of dollars. Also got a tire patched and swapped out for $20, which is cheaper than what a tire repair shop would have charged. Great communication & updates... called in the AM for drop off via tow truck & they promptly kept me updated on progress throughout the day and notified me immediately when my car was ready. Also worth noting (which is pretty reasonable) -- they charge a daily car storage fee once work is done after 24 hours. My dream of not having to deal with street sweeping for a week was unfortunately shattered pretty quickly because they were so quick. Another reason I went with Malibu is because they have a spacious workspace that can hold a lot of cars -- lots of other repair shops have 1-2 lifts in what's effectively a residential sized two car garage. Malibu has a massively sized car warehouse that can hold multiple cars being worked on, and has space for other cars around still. Entire staff is eastern euro (not sure the specific flavor), but they were friendly. I picked my car up right at closing, and got blasted with cig smoke in the garage, which felt appropriate for a car shop closing up for the day. 5/5, would come back! read more

typical crappy brooklyn auto shop, you show up there and no one speaks english or looks you in the eye, you've got to hunt around for the fat guy (with impenetrable russian accent). twice i go there with relatively simple problems, they don't look very busy, twice the fat guy mutters something about not being able to do any work today -- 'i don't have anybody here' he says, while i'm looking at a half-dozen techs. personally i think the owner favors the orthodox jews in the area as customers -- knowing he can rip them off. please avoid this wretched shop read more

I never write reviews unless I receive really bad experience but THIS PLACE IS FABULOUS!!! I brought in my 2015 mini for oil change and brake fluids and ny state inspection before selling my car. It was quick and simple. Very honest work without overcharging or overselling for unnecessary works. I highly recommend this place!!! Thank you so much! read more

I've been taking my car to Malibu for several years for NYS inspections and oil changes and have found them to be honest, reliable, and considerate. When my fuel pump light came on, they checked it out free of charge and told me everything was fine, and that it was probably just an issue with the gas cap not being tight enough. They even walked over to jump-start my battery when I was parked a block away. They will also tell you straight up when they can't do the work you're looking for (like cleaning up rust spots). They are my go-to mechanics in the neighborhood. read more

They messed up our car worse than when we brought it in and charged $800 for it. Had to take it to a second shop a few weeks later who charged us $2000 to undo the shoddy work these guys did and fix it. Wouldn't go back. Attached--our rotors after going to Malibu. read more

Gene and his body shop team at Malibu do fantastic work. I've gotten 3 insurance-claim repairs fixed here over the past 5 years and they constantly exceed my expectations, both with the quality of the work, dealing with the insurance companies for payment and the customer service. Highly recommended- a real gem right here in BK. I've never used them for auto repairs, but the shop is so tidy and organized, I'd like to try them. read more

This business had high ratings and was my first choice. Upon arrival staff was extremely rude. I will never go here or recommend anyone else. read more

Second review for this place, only because my experience was even better the second time round. Had a tire blow-out on the highway, scraped my bumper and wheel arch pretty badly. Given how positive my last interaction was with Gene and his guys, I thought I'd give them a call. Immediately, I was told what had to be replaced (1 part, which I knew needed replacing), what could be repaired or replaced (my choice). As I say, the bumper was pretty well banged up, but Gene assured me he could repair it. When I picked it up, I was truly amazed - it looked better than it had new and the cost for the entire thing was less than replacing a single piece of the bumper! Great shop, great prices and amazing work - I'll be going nowhere else from now on! read more

Left my car here for the first time due to a code P0456 small leak. Engine light on. Very poor communication I called daily repeatedly and was put on hold no one returns or many times they didn't answer. When they did they couldn't tell me what was wrong with it. After 3 days they tell me a rat at my wire and charged me over 200 in cash to fix it. I picked up my car and a few weeks later the same light comes back on. Had someone look at the wires to find out they didn't change any wire. Complete scam! read more

Very timely made it all work they backed out the car for me as well! They put on a front license plate as I had no bracket because I am from Philadelphia and you don't need a license in front of your car. The did this at no added cost! Freyda to read more

I am so happy my sister told me about her experience with the mechanics at Malibu Auto in brooklyn. They diagnosed my trucks issue put it up in the air then showed me where the problem was situated. The mechanic was able to show me and explain how he was going to fix my issue, how much time it would take and we agreed on a price that was pretty affordable for the work he had to do. Got my truck back in 1 day ,they changed the oil and fixed the issue and my truck is running great. Thank you MALIBU AUTO. read more

Went to Audi to have routine maintenance and was told that I should replace my Brakes and rotors, to the tune of $4000! Crazy!! I found Malibu auto repair and read the great reviews and made an appt and met with Arcadiy. My car was put on a lift and the brakes were assessed. Arcadiy then explained that I had almost 50% of my brakes left-what a relief to not have to change my brakes and also to avoid Audi's predatorial costs. Most of all, i'm writing this review because of the honesty of this establishment! I have found a place that I can now trust and will return. Thank you Arcadiy read more

I have been here before: Reliable, straight-forward, honest, Know Their Business. I had a long time problem with my vehicle and decided to bite the bullet and take it to the experts at a Honda dealership. The know-it-all dealer charged me a lot of money and in the end, handed me back the car and said they could not fix it. MALIBU DID and for a reasonable fee. From now on, whatever the auto issue, MALIBU AUTO REPAIR is the ANSWER. Glenn B. read more

After Pep Boys told me my AC was leaking in several places and id need to spend $3200 to fix it I brought it to malibu where they diagnosed the issue as a faulty compressor. Fixed it in under 24 hrs. Parts and labor: $1200. Not nothing but way less than half. read more

Great service and professionalism. Great value and no long wait . I will be returned in he future.

THE BEST !!! Been going here for years. Honest, reliable, professional. They do everything to perfection.

Not only did the shop do an awful job with the car, but they are also THIEVES! Removed expensive HIDs from the car that went missing. Destroyed both leather door panels when removing the doors. Stole entire undercarriage protective shielding. They know nothing about it. Hang up the phone when calling. Nasty and rude to say the lease. AVOID AVOID AVOID! Will be filling with the BBB and will take them to court. Avoid the hassle dealing with these crooks. read more

Requested a quote. Got a response from Gene to go there - no appointment needed and had my car looked at in less than 20 minutes and got it fixed in 5 minutes. Honest professional mechanic shop. Excellent spot for car inspection and registration renewal. Friendly, honest, professional people who service your vehicle without trying to rip you off. I realized on a Sunday morning that my sticker was about to expire the very next day. I drove to a few shops that were closed (naturally). Malibu's owner personally took care of my vehicle, and wrapped up the job well before the estimated time. As far as auto body shops, this place has the nicest people around :) As a female driver these places often try to inflate prices or otherwise take advantage of "naive" people. Malibu does not try to scheme you at all. It's honest, good service at an honest and fair price. This is my go to spot for inspections from now on. I highly recommend Malibu! read more
