I went here for a few years. The work was good, as far as I could tell, but prices are on the high side. I'm also suspicious that unnecessary work was recommended on one or two occasions, but couldn't say for sure. I called Precision Transmission and Eric let me bring it in without an appointment. He and his crew truly saved the day! A brand new battery was installed and my car was back on the road. I took my Toyota to Precision Transmissions this afternoon for an oil change. The work was done so fast and at a great price-- I was very impressed. More than just great work though, I found that everyone there, from the owner to the mechanics, were very friendly and personable-- an experience I've just never had before! I got a very reasonable estimate for some future auto body work, and the owner showed me how I've been getting screwed by going to the dealer for regular maintenance work. Dissatisfied customer! I do not recommend going there for any car service. I drove in from out of state and needed an oil change and was told that I needed new break pads knowing I did not need them. The man that took care of me was very dishonest and tried to scam me by saying I needed services to my car that were not necessary. Do not trust these people! read more

I wish I could say that I am happy that I went to Precision, but I am not. I took my 3 year old SUV there for knocking in my engine and leaking coolant. I was told that whoever did my oil change before did not tighten my oil filter and that my engine was dry. I was also told that my hoses for the coolant was defective and had to be replaced. So after over $600.00 later, my car was "ready". Fast forward 2.5 weeks and after 4 bottles of coolant, I return the SUV to the shop today and I was livid!! Not only had they not fixed the problem, but his "guys" had taken it upon themselves to replace my dealership license plate holder with one from the shop...and they threw mine away...ALL WITHOUT ASKING!!! WHO DOES THAT????? I completely lost it today and told the owner just how I felt. His "guys" needed to focus on fixing what was broken and not focus on changing customers' stuff without asking. He insulted me by telling me that I had not reset something he had asked me to do after I got the car back the first time...excuse me genius, I've had my car for three years, I think I know how to reset a simple gauge!!! I was fit to be tied at 8am today!! I received a call that my car was ready around 11:30am. Eric did not even have the decency to tell me what the problem was this time. When I asked, his response was "I don't even know. I told my guys just fix it because I don't wanna hear it". He couldn't even take the time to inform me!!! Maybe he thought he was doing me a favor!! I hope it's fixed this time because I DO NOT want to have to go back there...he would like me much less than he does already. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. I'm not sure what went wrong with my visit here. I expected a great experience based on reviews and some preliminary back-and-forth with the service director. I had another mechanic diagnose a thumping noise under my front end as bad struts, so I bought struts and brought them in to have them installed her at Precision, which was no problem. I also asked about a quote to replace a cracked transmission mount, another issue diagnosed by the other mechanic, and Precision said they'd look into it. So, they installed the new struts, new alignment, quoted me a repair for a new transmission mount AND a new upper motor mount (which immediately piqued my radar because I had just had that upper motor mount replaced, with all the others, 3k miles ago). I said I'd think about the mounts, paid for my repairs--which, granted, were very reasonable because I supplied the parts--and drove off. BUT THE THUMPING UNDER MY FRONT END WAS STILL THERE, UNDIMINISHED. Did they not understand why I was bringing it in to begin with? I know I mentioned the thumping sound in the suspension...did they not test drive the car after installing the new struts and hear the noise was still there? Or did they just assume I'd asked for struts replaced, and that was all they were going to do? So...I took the car today to a NEW mechanic, who actually asked me to ride with him around the block so he and I could hear the noise together. He said immediately, "Nine times out of ten that sound is bad links in the stabilizer bar. Did they replace that when they replaced the struts?" "Do new links come with Monroe quick struts?" I asked. "No." "Then no, they didn't replace the links." He took the car in for the day, quoted me $195 bucks for the parts and replacement of the links, and, while he had it, called and asked if I wanted to go ahead and get my safety inspection done since it was do next month anyway. PLUS, as I asked Precision, he looked at the motor mounts and the transmission mount. I told him I'd replaced the upper motor mount 3k miles ago, told him I don't know if it was a bad part or a used part maybe, in other words, gave him every opportunity to find something wrong with those mounts because I said another mechanic had told me they were bad, and he said, "No, the motor mounts are good. Everything else is solid." I picked up the car from that new guy and guess what? The thumping? GONE. Precision was a nice environment, a clean shop, had a comfy little office to wait in...but something went wrong in communication. Yes, I called them and said, "Someone else told me this is what's wrong, I'll supply the parts if you'll install," but it's still incumbent upon the repair shop to make sure what the customer requested to be done FIXED THE PROBLEM THE CUSTOMER BROUGHT IT IN FOR. I came first thing in the morning with a flat tire, they encouraged me to shop around for better prices online, but I didn't have the time to wait for overnight shipping, so they had my tires delivered from their supplier that day. The woman at the front desk was very thorough ensuring everything my car needed was the right type and lowest price available, and they are very interactive with their customers so you never feel like they're pulling problems with your car out of their behinds. Very polite and professional staff. Even recommend another shop in the area for an alignment I requested since they wouldn't have time in the day to complete it. I never review (I need to work on that) but feel compelled to leave my 2 cents seeing as how I picked this place because of Yelp reviews (thanks guys!!!) After receiving a ticket for an expired inspection - these things should really come with some kind of alert or flashing lights...something - I looked quick for a place relatively close to home and highly regarded. I usually just bug my dad to take care of all things car related, but I needed to get this done ASAP since I'm hitting the road tomorrow morning. I'm glad I decided to come to Precision. Eric has great customer service! He immediately remembered me from our phone conversation the previous day, he listened to what I needed and placed the work order quickly and efficiently. He spoke to me about the services and insurance issues - all without talking down to me. I felt extremely comfortable as I left the shop, not like I was about to be scammed or have my concerns dismissed. He even took several back to back phone calls with questions from me without the slightest bit of huff - big plus! He also called after the inspection to tell me what I needed, how much it would cost, and when my car would be ready. All in all I got my car inspected; windshield, wipers, and air filter replaced, and oil changed all for under $150 and in under 24 hours. Now as long as my car doesn't go "kablooie" on the road, I'd have to call this a success...and I'll definitely be back! read more

All I can say is I found a new home for my car. I woke up yesterday to a nice summons on my car for an expired inspection. Went to the closest shop. They checked my car thoroughly and pointed out to me that I needed to have my brakes serviced in order to pass. To me that was no surprise since the last place I went to for an oil change told me the same. The surprise was the price(1/2). They performed the brake job & inspection in little over an hour while I waited for almost 1/2 the price i was quoted by the previous shop. As I waited I passed the time on their full size arcade machine which was free. I felt like a kid again. I highly recommend the guys at Precision. The owner Eric took the time out to show me everything being done in detail, and even gave me my choice to keep all the old parts. Eric's the man to see in these auto situations and in fact, he run's the shop (Im coming from the west coast by the way). Brought in my acura tL for a serious, i mean, serious transmission problem. On top of that, discovered another serious problem (engine mounts destroyed [went in to check myself]). Not only were they adjustable with their rates, but were glad to make sure the quality matches their price. And in less than 2 weeks, brought my baby back to life and trust me when i say i haven't felt my baby drive this aggressive in a loong time. Gotta say, from bringing it in 'til pickup day I appreciated the optimal customer/auto service, followed by an offer of a complimentary burger (dont worry they keep it clean over there). A BMW franchise dealer was trying to charge me more than double for work that I didn't need, and Precision Transmissions was able to identify exactly what my car needed. I was able to see the mechanics inspect my car from the seating area. The mechanics came and spoke with me and didn't mind explaining everything. There was no wait time, and everyone was professional and efficient. Even during their lunch break hour, the workers at Precision didn't mind answering my questions. They got the job done, but not without manipulating me. I knew the fuse was blown in my car but couldn't find the exact blown one myself. My hometown mechanic said they wouldn't even charge me for the replacement or labor. PT pretended my computer wasn't communicating with their machine for the emissions test.. and they stalled the job in order to charge me $135 for "diagnostics." Their office was filthy. They came in an out exclaiming how my job may cost me $1000 so that i would be relieved by the $135 charge.. To make it worse they put their bummer holder on my car with out notifying me or asking my permission. I would suggest driving out of the city for car service if possible.. read more

I have now had work done one 2 seperate vehicals at Precision Transmissions, for 2 totally different issues, and I honestly could not be happier. Eric, the owner is a truly standup guy. He's straight forward, honest and definitely trustworthy. Eric is accomidating and understanding of circumstances and his prices are incredibly fair, especially for NYC. Both times, I have taken a car there I have been in a crunch, and he has pulled through for me. I am from a rural town in upstate New York, and I'm used to really good, cheap labor because when you live in the woods, you're bound to know a mechanic or two, and Eric and his team always meet and exceed my expectations. I first came to Eric and Precision just over a year ago. I had bought a suburban from my grandfather and after a cross-crountry drive, it was in trouble. I did some searching and investigating, read all the reviews, went to the Car Talk website, ect and at that point was fairly sold on Precision. It wasn't until I actually came in to see them that I was sure I'd made the right decision. I dropped my car off with Eric and after waiting nearly 20 minutes for a cab, Eric was ready to close up shop. He offered to drop me at my gym on his way home in his own car. Will you every meet another shop owner that would offer to do that?? It was great. My catalytic converter had given way and after it was replaced, Eric took me through it and showed me what had gone wrong and why. Fast forward six months. I was working in Queens and thought it was more convenient to take it to a guy up there that a friend recommended. Well - the guy only took cash and long story short - three visits and at least $1500 later, and it felt like I'd gotten a patch job. My job finally ended and I was able to go see Eric. He took his time and checked out every possible scenario before diagnosing my problem. I had three leaking hoses and needed my transmission rebuilt and after it was all said and done, he showed me what hoses had failed and also walked me over to another transmission that was currently in the rebuild process - showing me how theirs had failed and allowing me to fully see what the actual rebuild process is. I've looked for shortcuts in the past, but I wont be straying again. The guys at Precision are very fair, thorough and I trust them - something that is very hard to find. read more
