However, what you pay for is the convenience and ease of mind that your vehicle is in good hands. Being the first time I had my vehicle serviced in the United States anyone would be nervous about handing over their car to complete strangers. However, the customer service was professional and it gives the feel of a family run business; very wholesome. If you're willing to spend the extra dollar for no stress and no staying awake at night thinking about what is being done to your vehicle; this is the place. After searching Yelp for a place, Precision Transmissions came up as the top-rated auto shop so I called in and they had availability the next day so I made an appointment. Right up front, they told me the cost of inspection and that tinted windows would automatically fail the inspection. I appreciated that they provided that information up front. The next day I went for my appointment and they were ready for me and I was done with my inspection within the hour. I found this place for my state inspection after some unsavory experiences at some of the other shops around North Brooklyn. Eric was super nice to me on the phone and even nicer irl. What a treasure to NOT feel like you're both inconveniencing someone and being manipulated by them at the same time. It seems like that is so hard to find these days! Yes, I'm reviewing an auto repair shop in New York City. But I live in a borough where you can actually find street parking in front of your apartment, and I have a rather large dog I need to cart around. So i bit the bullet, and bought a car about a year ago. I went to Precision for just an oil change after finding them on google. They were about $15 cheaper than Jiffy Lube, got me in and out in less than 15 minutes, and played with my dog when I was settling the bill. The owner was so friendly, and it was an altogether positive experience. I only wish Ratner didn't force them to move away from their Vanderbilt location...it would have saved me some gas. read more

I could not recommend Precision Transmissions more highly. Eric and his staff have been taking care of our car for years now. I agree completely with the previous reviewers that Eric is honest and personable, and the service is quick, high quality and the prices are never inflated. We've gone to Precision for everything from regular oil changes, tune-ups and inspections to fixing glass and front panels from break-ins to regular maintenance like replacing struts and timing belts. They always do a great job, and Eric's computer system keeps track of what you've done to the car and when so that you can make sure you're on top of maintenance. The shop is easy to drive to - right on Atlantic Avenue - and is also close to the subway, so if you need to drop off the car and go, you can do that easily. However, if you want to stick around, you can sit in the comfortable office or go to a local coffee shop. read more

Like everyone else said, the gentleman who owns the shop, Eric, is as nice and respectable as a guy can be. No, I dont mean he is respectable for a mechanic, he is respectable period! Hmm. I'm baffled by Harlan V's one star review. Here's my story: Yadda yadda yadda I brought my car to Toyota. My 2007 Toyota had been used by someone else, and it was time to see what was up. Toyota of Bayridge (aka Rip off Artists) said thusly: All of your tire have dry rot, you need a thingamavalve, a cabin air filter, you have carbon in your engine, and you need a transmission flush - the transmission fluid is "filthy". Blah blah $1400. I laugh/cried, and said, how much for the emissions test and the wiper blade to pass the test? ok, I'll pay that and come back. BTW they overcharged me for the blade. Jump forward to me checking yelp for a local mechanic, to get a second opion. On the PHONE, Eric at Precision said, "Carbon in the engine? That happens at 100k miles, not 40k. They're full of it." He said bring it in, I'll look and let you know. He was gonna look for no charge? Ok. Deal. Oh, and he told me, rather than get overcharged for tires, go to tirerack.com and find tires for my car there. Check out THAT site. It's a tire geek's heaven! Eric even told me to call him when I was looking at tires and he'd help me, WHICH HE DID! I bring Stella in to Precision (that's the Toyota's name). Eric calls me an hour later, and says, "your transmission fluid is fine, there's no carbon in your engine, but you do need the valve thingy and an air cabin filter." TOTAL SAVING: $900. F+CK YOU BAYRIDGE TOYOTA! I bought Eric a bottle of wine. OH, and he fixed my smashed passenger side door, which leaks when it rains, but bending it back a bit. Free of charge. read more

This place is great for oil changes. I'll give them that. But do NOT come here for auto repair. They gave me a price quote for a part. Said they would have to custom-order it direct from the dealer. Well, I called the Auto Zone about a mile away, and they had the same part in stock for about a fifth of the price. They were going to charge me hundreds more for the same part! Not to mention their insane "labor fees" which were going to be $150. The people at Auto Zone showed me how to install the part - which was done by unscrewing 3 screws. This place was a total ripoff. Go for oil changes. But this incident made me so mad, I'm giving them 1 star. Oh, AND they were really rude about it. Extra double ONE STAR. read more

BEWARE: WOLF IN SHEEPS CLOTHES!!! I went to Eric for years and really thought I was getting good service. Then one day he crossed a line. He had enough nerve to tell me that I shouldn't date someone Jewish!!! I had suggested my husband (boyfriend at the time) go there for basic maintenance. Not only was he rude to my him, he quoted him lesser prices on the phone then gave him outrageous prices in person when he knew who he was. My husband got a second opinion and paid significant less. That's was only the beginning... I gave him a second chance after my car was hit. He was extremely dishonest about the repairs that my vehicle needed, required me to find a part that was needed- which he was paid to do and illegally refused to allow me to pick up my car because he wasn't able to complete the phony repairs he claimed my vehicle needed. After I finally got my vehicle, I got 2 other opinions both stating that the work wasn't needed. On top of that he again had the nerve to make several negative comments about my husband. read more

So, we came here after reading the positive Yelp reviews. I had my fiance take the car in to this shop, as their hours conflicted with my work schedule. Honestly, we were relieved that someone would be able to help us with the issues on our 2006 Lexus. Bad decision and it makes me wonder if people who left the reviews received a reliable second opinion. We took the car to Lexus and got a $2600 quote, we took the car to Precision and got a $1900 quote to replace our struts. He told my fiance that he didn't use after market parts (ummm that's like saying you only wear Nikes) and that we'd need part from he manufacturer. My car is a 2006.It's old enough that there are reliable aftermarket options available. This is the 4th car I've owned and 2nd Lexus. There are reliable aftermarket options available. Foul #2 They also told my fiance that our struts were leaking onto our tires and that we would also need to replace our tires and that the tires we had were no longer in production so he came back with an expensive quote for our tires (that were just purchased in July). Turns out, our struts are encased and our tires are protected from scenarios such as that. Luckily, I remembered I had a good friend from college who sells cars and has a garage he uses regularly. While I acknowledge that I might have received a friend rate, the job only cost us $700. I'm not saying they do bad work at Precision, but I am saying get a reliable second opinion. read more

I was overdue on my inspection by almost two months. I knew my luck on a ticket would run out sooner or later, so it was time to just suck it up and get it done. The freak October snowstorm closed my office on the Monday following. Perfect day to take care of things on my to do list. Inspection being the number one priority. I found this place on Yelp. It's close to home and they were open. A quick drive-by showed the garage door was open, so I stopped in. Let me preface this by saying that I HATE going to auto shops. Being a woman, I'm an easy target for scams since vehicles are clearly not my forte, How bad could an inspection be though? *sigh* I met with the owner, Eric, and he was very friendly. I pulled my car in and they did an EXTREMELY thorough inspection of the vehicle. Down to the wipers...and the streaks they left. I walked away with having one new wiper and a new light for my license plate. I passed with flying colors. The shop was very thorough and even let me look under my car, which I'd never had the opportunity to experience before. Great place. Very nice owner. Convenient. I was supposed to pass 2017 inspection for my '15 Honda accord. I searched Yelp for 10 best NYS inspection places and found this one. Went there this morning around 9 am and was surprised by several things : 1) They actually have a waiting are and a nice receptionist girl who kindly provided me with information I need. 2) All staff was wearing uniform T shirts , so it's much easier to locate them. 3) very very fast service. Inspection was done in 10 minutes and cost me $10)) 4) The owner was super nice. He works and acts like he is one of workers : humble, positive and polite. He came to me at least 3 times to find out if everything was ok! Since I am a business owner myself, I really appreciate a businessman who takes care of his customers! Good job! I only have one word to describe Precision Transmission (PT): wow! I was involved in a car accident where someone scratched the driver side of my bumper. I took it to a few places to get estimates and felt the most comfortable with Eric from PT. Out of all the places I took my car to, Eric knew the specific color of my car and explained to me how many layers/coats of paint was needed and how long it was going to take to do the job. The paint job itself only took a day and an extra day was needed for the paint to dry and to put the bumper back on. What did take longer though was waiting for an adjuster to come out to reevaluate the total cost. I called almost everyday to get an update and the receptionist, Edith, was always so patient and pleasant to deal with. As a woman, first time car owner and my first accident, it's hard to find someone who you trust in what can be considered a male dominated industry. I read reviews online which led me to Precision Transmission. The reviews were pretty on point and my car out brand spanking new. It's hard finding a good mechanic in Brooklyn that's honest and does a good job. I thought I had one, but after $1000, two trips to their garage, and a problem still not fixed, I had had it with my old place. A friend recommended Precision and I have to say, I was very happy with their work. The main thing for me was that Eric listened to me as I described the problems I was having with my old Jeep and actually took it for a road test to check it out. In about 24 hrs I had a new engine mount, front engine pipe, and front brakes. When I came to pick it up, he showed me the old parts and what had happened with them as well as answering a bunch of other questions I had. I left for a road trip up to Vermont the next day and it ran like a champ. The price seemed very reasonable, and he checked in with a phone call to see if everything was good. The only thing that would be nice is if they applied the $65 diagnostic fee to the total repair cost - but really not a big deal in the grand scheme. As long as you're getting a fair price, good work, and a high level of customer service, what more can you really ask for? As the owner of an older vehicle that often has to replace old parts, I'll be returning to Precision whenever something comes up. Highly recommended! read more

Hands down the best and most honest mechanic i have ever, ever encountered in my life. Though this proclamation may sound too good to be true and too promotional to be a honest review....but the simple truth is i have never in my life experienced a mechanic who is as good, as honest, as Eric at Precision Transmissions. And as long as i am in NY i wouldn't dare in my life take my car anywhere else in NY if i can avoid it. As we all know one of the toughest things about finding a mechanic for those of us who don't know cars very well is finding an honest one. because if you don't know anything about cars, you really have no idea if what they recommend you really need, how serious it really is, what is needed and what is superfluous, and for that matter what they are talking in general sometimes! Eric not only is straight-forward and clear, but he always seems to try to find the best and least expensive option for you. And when he can save you money he will even when he doesn't have to and you have agreed to pay more (i have had more than one occasion where he quoted me a certain price, I agreed to the service, and he actually came back and reduced the price because he figured out how to do it cheaply or in less time. Pardon my cynicism with mechanics...but this is simply amazing! Perhaps there is a better, more honest mechanics in NY. But if there is i have never met him. And based on close to 6 or 7 years using Precision Transmissions over 2 different cars, i wouldn't even bother spending the effort trying to find one. Because one need not look any further. After 24 years of driving in major cities across both coasts, i have literally never dealt with a mechanic who is consistently honest and i entirely trust without second thought.
