Cool selections of animals... pythons, ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs, potbelly pigs, birds, geese, ducks, roosters, hens, and chicks (breeds change from week to week) Different options for pet cages for small and large animals displayed in the front and back, including chicken coops. I have bought pullets on two different occasions and 5 out of the 9 have died within 2 or 3 days of purchase. Two of the remainder pullets have been very ill and after one month have not grown much but are fighting hard to stay alive. We have purchased pullets from two other locations (Gordon's Feed & Seed and Stockman Feeds) and they have all survived, growing strong and healthy. What I find odd is that all three locations get their pullets around the same time from the same location in New Mexico... Privett Hatchery. Staff is sometimes friendly, they're always busy, and you have to chase them down to get help. When the store has more than 3 or 4 customers, it feels like chaos. Service is slow. They do have a good selection of just about everything, several starter kits we've seen for different animals too. I recommend the other two locations in the west valley before telling anyone about Pratt's Pet; all of them are local businesses. read more

Terrible place to buy bunnies !!! Seen a customer flicking the bunnies in the head and told manger about it and he laughed like it was a joke !! They still sold the bunny to the person flicking them in the head and hitting them with the igloos your employees did nothing !! Not even a stop ! I had to tell him not to hurt the bunnies . Great place your running here . Your ducks in the back have no water and no food in 110 weather ?!? Poor animals are panting back there barley any water . What a cute store! Pratt's has all sorts of animals that you can't usually find in the same place. Everything is clean and organized and the animals look healthy and happy. I would absolutely give 0 stars if I could. This place is SICKENING. A good friend of mine bought a pig from this location and the "employees", I use this term lightly, should be IMMEDIATELY FIRED. First of all, they were told (with EXTREME) certainty, that this pig was a male, and not female. They then proceeded to CONTINUOUSLY tell them the best thing to do in this pig being a male is to tie a rubber band around "his" balls and let it just die and fall off because "the animals don't seem to mind it." What. The. F***. Not only is that ANIMAL CRUELTY, but it is asking for THOUSANDS of dollars in veterinary bills for them having to correct the damage done by such an ignorant action, or potentially having the pig DIE from sepsis and infection from the site. Pratt's you need to STOP SELLING ANIMALS AND STICK TO SELLING FOOD AND COLLARS. You are JUST as bad as puppy mills, and are solely in it for the profit and NOT the animal's best interest. The fact that you have workers telling your clientele this is INCREDIBLY disturbing and will absolutely be reported. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. Been a customer for more than 10 years and today I didn't hang around like I useually do to see the animals. I have a bad back so I always park in the back so they can help load my scratch. I walked past 2 people that didn't seem too busy and went to do my business when I asked the cashier if someone could help me with a bag of scratch without batting an eye or asking over the radio she informed me that they were too busy filling orders. One was helping a family buy a duck the other person was standing watching them... no fault of the owners, but I wish the new employee's wernt so unintelligent to say it nicely. read more

We've been to this location a few times but we will definitely stick with the El Mirage location after our experiences here. Each time the employees haven't been friendly or helpful. We asked three different people for help with the turtles and nobody was able to provide us with information or help us get what we needed. I kept seeing employees walk back the offices when we were standing there waiting for help. They need some sort of system in place to identify those who are just browsing/looking at animals versus those who would like to buy something. read more

I have been to Pratts a handful of times as it is the most convenient store that sells some livestock feed. After today, I won't be going back. In the past, animals have been a little cramped at times but overall seemed healthy and happy. Today was horrendous. All of the animals were way overcrowded and their cages, food and water were all soiled. Several of the chicks were being smothered by others. The two girls I saw "working" were very nice but obviously had no training for animal care or just basic knowledge of the animals there. I'm really disappointed that such a long timex local business is operating in such an inhumane manner. read more

Happy 80th Anniversary on Saturday, November 4th from 8 am - 5 pm! Going to their annual Customer Appreciation Day is one of my favorite birthday week activities. This year, Dan and his team elevated the event to new heights. I am so thankful I was an early bird that arrived at 8 am when doors opened. We were greeted with doughnuts and pop or water, and great coupons. They had an awesome gift bag filled with three doggie toys, tonnes of delicious doggie samples. They gave out Blue doggie scarves. This year, there were not as many treats for our feline friends, but there was one bag of cat food samples. Everyone is friendly and helpful at Pratt's. One employee saw that I was struggling with my 2 bags of hay, 2 bags of doggie pads, chinchilla food, guinea pig food, chinchilla dust bath. He quickly emptied a box, cut holes to make it easier to carry. What amazing service. When I told Pazley that this was an amazing event, she said to be sure to tell Dan, the owner about it. This place is alright, they have a lot of things and many animals however I am disappointed in how the animals in the back outside are treated.it's very hot this time of season and I just don't think it's very kind to have ducks in a cage full of hay with little to no water, the water bowls are always full of hay they look like they never get cleaned and ducks first of all belong in the water, so a tiny water bowl isn't really gonna cut it, they should have little pools in there for them I mean they're ducks! But not only that the chickens are like practically stuffed in the cages with little room to walk around and again dirty water bowls. read more

I'm giving them a ONE star for dishonesty. I called on a Friday Jan.15th specifically looking for a BABY Conure. The fellow who answered the phone cheerfully replied that they "just got in 2 babies 2 months old from the breeder!" yay, I was looking for a baby bird. I went over the next day, a Saturday, to pick it up. Hm, looked a little mature for a "baby" but was so excited I took him home. This was NO BABY bird! I'd say it's a year old, it already had a vast vocabulary, VERY bad manners - bit and drew blood, literally. I called them today, the fellow answering the phone was QUITE rude, said "if I have a PROBLEM with it to talk to his MANAGER and put me on hold without asking, just slammed me on hold. He also LIED, said "I didn't tell you that they were 2 months old, I said we GOT them when they were two months old, and we HAD them for 7 months! I would NOT buy a bird at that age. People buy baby birds for a REASON. They prefer not to buy adults, just as one does not wish to purchase a grown dog or kitten - they want a baby. Even more so with a bird, as when a bird picks up a bad habit (biting) it can be VERY difficult to train out. RUDE service, LYING staff that lie just to move merchandise. I am very disappointed in them. I hope this post gets wide attention. PS, I did not get this bird at any discount, either. There are two ads on Craigslist for ADULT Conures, same price, with toys and a large cage. Here I paid "Baby" price and got an adult bird. Boo! VERY bad business, Pratt's, and RUDE as well. By your attitude that you showed me when I called you were very defensive, leading me to believe you have gotten these complaints before. Instead of "trying to make it right" you lied. I bought 5 chicks from here and 6 from a local breeder. The 5 I bought from here out of them I have had 3 die but the 6 I got elsewhere are still alive. I understand chicks dying is common but these chicks appeared healthy and still passed away suddenly. I have raised chicks for a while and have never experienced anything like it. read more

I don't usually leave reviews, but I felt like this was super important. This morning I woke up to my new cockatiel dead and was very angry and was ready to blow up on this place. I called and Oscar, one of the managers was absolutely amazing. He talked me through all of the things that could have happened, and even had me bring in the bird so he could examine him. He was so nice and informative and even offered an exchange. Now I am bringing home a very beautiful hand tamed cockatiel. I can't say this enough but Oscar is amazing. He is very well put together, friendly, professional, and knows exactly what he's doing. Best service I have ever had at Pratt's. Highly recommend visiting this place during morning shift! Pratt's would be great if you are not really in need of anything specific. {Perfect place to kill time with your 5 year old niece. They have lots of birds and bird products but not everything . If you are in the market for a peacock , pigeon or parrot you are in the right place. They have the whole baby chick industry all figured out with more chicks than Hef has. They also have a few exotic pets such as tortoise , snake, and a pig or two. But if you really needed a lot of pet supplies this is not your place and they aren't as inexpensive as say the Stock shop or Petco. Service is a bit sad , the clerks seemed frazzled or bored I couldn't decide. We also were told by the clerk to go buy or other pet needs at Petsmart because it would be cheaper. Hmm. read more

Actually, this place falls between a 3 and 4 depending on the visit. Along with normal pet supplies, you can also adopt dogs, ducks, various caged birds, bunnies, chinchillas, pea fowl (yes, I did say it), turkeys, quail, roosters, pot bellied pigs, goats, fancy pigeons....and on and on.... If you're an animal lover like me, you get mixed feelings going into a store that has pets in cages and boxes. Pratt's is much better at the showing of animals, big dogs aren't stuffed into kennels meant for teacup chihuahuas, and save for one visit when I saw a parrot picking himself naked, the animals look healthy and happy. If you don't mind the possibility of getting pooped or peed on, you can pick up and pet the silky soft rabbits and the cute little baby ducks. In the back, you can see a white peahen and a couple of multicolored peacocks. Prices are slightly more expensive than say Petsmart, but it's a locally owned small store with lots of animals you can play with. I hate to admit it but I've never bought anything. I just go there to get my fuzzy animal need out of the system. They probably see me come in now and think "there goes that crazy girl again making a beeline for the ducks..." The staff is really friendly and don't mind your grubby hands all over their animals. They currently have a little boxer puppy for sale who seems to like squashing his face all over the glass and making funny faces at you. Almost tempted....but I don't think my cats would appreciate it. read more

I had been to Pratts once before and had a less than stellar experience but you always have to try something twice before you can give a good opinion. So, I called them up in a last ditch effort to get a coop for my chicks. They had what I needed and at a reasonable price considering coops aren't cheap. I asked if they would hold it for me since I was about 45 minutes away and they did. They delivered it real cheap and were very friendly. Complete opposite of my first visit! I do feel bad for the tortoise they have in the play pool inside the store though....poor thing. read more

Pratt's is a nice local pet store that has a large selection of poultry and rabbits along with a small variety of reptiles and mammals. They also have a large selection of bird supplies. I went to the store looking for reptiles and reptile supplies. They had a few bearded dragons*, some corn snakes and a couple of ball pythons. More impressively they had a large collection of sulcata tortoises. Their tortoises are more expensive than most other local pet stores, but they had a larger selection than most other stores, meaning there is a greater variety to choose from. Behind the store they have an area with chickens, pigeons, pigs and a goat that was very interesting. This store is definitely worth going to just to look around even if you're not interested in buying anything. *Edit On my last visit I couldn't see a bearded dragon that didn't have a physical defect. They had plenty of lizards, but each one had either a missing toe or nub tail. This was in December and I haven't been back since. read more

Miserable experience. Spent time in the back looking at the selection of animals. Smelled terrible and was extremely crowded. Hard to get staff to answer questions. Ended up picking out two hens to add to our flock, which the guy didn't let us hold before throwing them in the bag. Anyways got home and realized they had MITES ALL OVER THEM. Tried to immediately return them to the Mesa location due to that being close to us and was turned away. Now I'm stuck with two chickens that are being quarantined with mite dust. We have taken all of our dogs to Pratt's for their vaccinations! It saves money on Vet. bills and we can get their dog food and treats while we are there. We always go together and get there early. The lines can be long, we shop and take turns in line. There is always so much to look at and interesting people to talk to. We always learn something new from the staff. Anyone that knows anything about birds knows that birds and strong janitorial chemicals can be a deadly mix. Birds frequently die from strong smelling cleaners. They have very sensitive respiratory systems. I went to Pratt's to look at bird cages and one of the staff was mopping the floor with a very strongly scented floor cleaner. I spoke to the gal doing the mopping and she said to me "You mean it's not OK to mop the floor with PineSol around birds?" I informed her that, no, it is not OK. To which she replied "I'm just using what THEY told me to use." I can't believe the owners don't know better. It would certainly be acceptable to buy pet food here, but think twice about buying a bird. read more

So I bought 2 rats from Pratt's and Val helped me sex them because you have to make sure they're the same sex so they don't reproduce( i got what i thought were 2 boys). WELL 2 weeks later i realized one of my rats wasn't a boy, and that she was likely already pregnant at this point (she started acting funny and is larger than the other rat by a good bit) so i took the rats back to Pratt's to ask for advice, or any help, as I'm a new rat owner. I spoke to Val again and she verified that my rats were not the same sex, but essentially shrugged her shoulders and said oops. There was no help, advice to what I should do unless I asked specific questions, or offer to take the pet back. Although I'm attached at this point and will deal with the babies and additional costs, I'm kind of upset that it even happened when i consulted a "professional" to help me. I cannot fathom how this place is still in business. The place is filthy, animals are in dirty cages cramped and smashed all together. One of the ducklings looked like it had a broken wing as was still being stepped on. I dislike that anyone can touch the animals, and grab rabbits and chicks with rough hands when they're obviously trying to get away. So many people can just walk in and grab these animals with uncaring hands and not a clue how to handle them. There were children grabbing rabbits by the ears, pulling on them and poking baby chicks, the employees didn't seem to care at all. There were also two pigeons in a super small cage to where they couldn't even turn around or spread their wings. Clearly this business is just about profit; and they don't care about the animals since they're in these conditions and selling to people who definitely can't take care of them. I literally saw some a-hole put a LIVE RABBIT , in the trunk of his car in the 115 degree heat and walk back inside. How can they sell animals to these incompetent people??? And I don't understand how this place is still in business with how little they care about the animals. And clearly I'm not the only person who has witnessed this as there are multiple reviews in the "not recommended" section all about cruelty and employees. read more
