We have always been supporters of Pratt's but they have seriously let us and all their animals down! My fiancé had a ranch about 20 years ago and used to go to Pratt's all the time to buy animals for his ranch and sell his babies to Pratt's. There was a good old time family vibe then. They educated people about the animals they purchased and were very helpful. Now, my fiancé and I have a ranch together and we were starting from scratch. We went to Pratt's to get the same camaraderie and care that he had from Pratt's in the past. But we had found out the hard way that it is absolutely nothing like it used to be! Their animals are always sick and stressed and in bad living conditions. All of the chickens we have purchased from there were sick with a very contagious virus. They have respiratory distress and very lethargic and their eyes swell up and fill with puss. We gave them antibiotics but that did not help them. Every single chicken we bought from there had died. And the worst part is it spreads to the rest of our flock. Once the flock is infected you cannot get rid of it. U literally have to start fresh with healthy chickens. My fiancé had told Oscar the manager about this issue. At first he was understanding and willing to replace the chickens. Once we sent him pictures of the birds that perished he changed his tone and said "Why are you the only ones with birds dying?" We have stopped buying chickens from there but have continued to buy feed from there. We can't help but to go and look at all the animals and unfortunately they are always in poor living conditions and clearly very sick and even dead birds in the cages. The staff they have there at this point are very unhelpful and uneducated about the product they sell and uneducated about the animals they sell! We ask them a question about an animal and they look at us like we have a third eye growing out of our heads! They walk away without answering our questions or even getting our feed for us. We are out so much money from what we have bought from there and all the loss we have had from the sick chickens infecting the rest of our flock and they died. We had bought a female goat that was supposedly pregnant and they just wanted to get rid of her before she gave birth... well she wasn't pregnant. Then We had bought another female goat from them against our better judgment because she looked miserable and we wanted a companion for our first goat but She was "Not for sale" due to being sick... We said we want her to give her a fighting chance. She coughs and sneezes and has discharge from her lady parts. Pratt's just does not care about the health and well being of their animals! We will never purchase any animals from them again!! It's such a shame that these animals have to suffer!! read more

We purchased 1 peacock and 2 peahens from pratts, one of them the day we brought her home, left eye started blowing up right away. We took her to the exotic bird vet place, and got antibiotics for her. 375.00 later. So 300 for the bird, then the day after another 375.00 Oh, and it gets better, even though we kept her in seclusion from the other animals some of my 300 chickens started dropping dead with swollen eyes. As of right now I am down around 100 hens, and 6 roosters. I can't fill the orders for eggs that I have building up. Looking into talking with a lawyer about this. We purchased two sweet budgies on Thursday, 12/21 & today, 12/28 -- one week later, one of them passed. They were chipper and always puffed up, huddled together. The one that passed was gentle & hopped on my finger right away and was super loving. But this morning when we woke up, he was on the bottom of the cage, passed away. We made sure to keep the cage clean, with constant new water, good feed and toys. We even had music for them, but the one that passed, his poo color was a bit off from when we got him. The inhabitants he came in, there were many budgies. They were lying on top of one another and their perches had poo covered on them. Our mistake for knowingly getting a little budgie from this place. There are parakeets at the bottom of the cage at this location, huddled together and slumped over on the ground. Including the chicks, we did not purchase any chicks. But when you passed by, there were multiple baby chicks dead in the cages. We understand that holidays and business gets busy, especially with a variety of animals but we do believe we purchased the budgie from a not so clean environment. Our heart is broken. read more

I would give zero stars if I could because the condition these animals are forced to live in is absolutely heartbreaking. The animals outside have almost no water, certainly nothing like clean water. The sheep were in severe distress with less than a half an inch of water and it was 107 degrees. A huge cage of baby chicks were outside with not even a dispenser for water . But, she wasn't sure if it was the right color. So, we came here to find another chicken that was the right color, supposedly lol The chicken from this place was fiesty lol it escaped out of the box while we were in the car, while we were getting ready to head back to the house. It nearly attacked us all! I feared for my life! LOL I've never been so close to a chicken to where I almost got my pulled my hair! I hid myself under a jean jacket, while my friend scrambled to put the chicken back in the box lol I think I'm traumatized lol Aside from nearly getting killed by a chicken lol this visit was fun! It was like I was at a petting zoo. I got to see a variety of birds including ducks and peacocks, pigs, lambs, goats, and etc. I also got to see snakes, tarantulas, and hamsters. I love Pratt's. They have been around a long time and have anything you need for an animal. They have feed, treats, toys and animals for purchase. Their animals are well taken care of and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They were doing some remodeling but they have livestock animals out back as well. If I could leave zero stars I would. It was a typical busy Saturday morning. I got there a few hours after opening. I went in the back to look at the chickens and found one I wanted to look at. I looked around and no one was out back so I went in and asked 3 different people to help and everyone told me there should be someone out there. If there was someone out there why would I ask others?? Anyway, once I finally got a worker (tall, bigger, native) to help me, I pointed at the chicken I wanted to see and he caught her but then threw her in a red net bag (think the back onions come in at the grocery store) and she got stuck at the top (which hello, obviously their toes get stuck in the net) and he violently shook her until she fell to the bottom of the bag and laughed. I immediately took her from him because her wings were being bent funny and her feet were obviously mangled. I checked her over and besides being visibly panicked and scared she was OK. She had lice so I wasn't gonna get her but I couldn't stand the thought of this happening to her again so June Carter came home with me. I attempted to address my concerns with a young Hispanic woman who identified herself as the the assistant manager. Once I was done talking to her and I went to check out, I noticed the worker who helped me had been standing close to overhear the conversation, and was laughing about it with the assistant manager. The chicken didn't choose to be at Pratts. It's a living creature and should have been treated far better. I've spent hundreds at Pratts as it was my go-to place for over 10 years. I even referred my friends and family. Never again will you see a single penny from me or mine. This was unacceptable. If your workers don't want to be kind and compassionate to animals, they shouldn't work at a pet shop. It would've taken an extra maybe 5 seconds to properly put her in the bag or a box. I have NEVER seen an animal treated with such little regard at a pet store let alone Pratts. read more

Spoke with employees for over two weeks about purchasing a ferret. Was told they wouldn't be available until Saturday at 10am when the store opened. We drove three hours and arrived BEFORE the store opened, yet they were letting people come in. Every ferret was sold before opening. When we explained we had been told numerous times they couldn't be sold until 10am at opening and we had driven three hours, we were told "that sucks for you" and the employee walked away. It's one thing if they had decided that morning to let people in much earlier than opening (which sucks given we arrived long before opening to begin with) but the attitude of the employee to say what they said. Needless to say, we found a different pet store to buy from who were extremely pleasant to work with. I would never give Pratt's pets a dime or step foot in one of their stores after how their employee talked to us. They need to be clear to customers on how they plan to sell hard to find pets and if they plan to presale the morning they become available so people don't drive out of their way to go to their store. We spoke to them half a dozen times to be told each time 10am to arrive earlier than 10am and already be sold out before opening. They also need to hire staff that aren't rude to customers. read more

I bought a rat from here for a pet. One of the employees was throwing them back in a box and grabbing them by the tails and dropped my new pet into a bag without any holes. Pratt's is more than a pet store, it's a zoo. I saw the most beautiful turkey here and I think turkeys are hideous but this one was beautiful and all white. Chickens. Emus. Ducks. Turtles. Snakes. Doves. Peacocks. Goats. Parakeets. Rabbits and a chinchilla. That's all I can think of right now but there's more. Many more. I bought some baby chicks here and they Pratts staff have all been helpful and informative with getting the coop together. The feed is reasonably priced as well. I've gotten rats from here, I buy them as pets. They keep the rats in a drawer system and there's not always food/water for them and the bins are usually dirty with sick and injured rats and mice in them as well. I give all the rats love while I'm in there and sometimes even treats if I'm buying any for my rats that day. Some of the rats I've gotten from them have died just a day or two after bringing them home and when I tell the workers they kinda just shrug. :( Some of the workers seem inconvenienced when you tell them there's a sick or injured or even a dead animal. Others seem eager to help. One employee even got an attitude with me and told me maybe I should work there if I care about the animals so much, and not in a nice way either. The last time I went to get a pigeon, an Indian fantail and they have feathered feet that can be easily hurt and even bleed. They put the pigeon in a red net bag, and honestly I probably should have asked them to get a box instead because his poor foot had a couple feathers that were injured. Overall it's not a terrible store but could definitely do better in terms of their animal welfare. Also there was a dying guinea fowl laying in one of the cages and I had to point out to a worker that they were in need of care, they did stop what they were doing immediately to help but I wonder how long the bird was laying there before I even saw it. read more

If I come back in here during my trip this week and the store is still in such horrid, neglectful condition, I will be calling animal control and reporting this location. Mesa store is fine. THIS one is a death sentence for birds. Sold me THREE sick birds. Two lovebirds and a cockatiel. All three died within a week and THANK THE LORD we quarantined them from the rest of our flock. I work at an avian/exotic pet hospital and from a health and safety perspective, the store is gross. They offered to replace my birds, but after that, ceased all communication with me. I would much rather prefer a refund (even a partial refund would be fine), rather than receive three more, sick birds. Vet bills for exotic pets are NOT cheap. Really disappointed with this location, given that I wasted over $500 and had to watch these poor birds suffer, even with treatment. Customer service was good, but I didn't like seeing the dying lovebirds and budgies on the floor of the cage- that should have been my first red flag. read more

Lratts used to be a reputable store. But on my most recent ent visit I was looking to buy rats and was left shocked at how bad the store has gotten. The rats we purchased as pets, not feeders. The store kept hundreds of rats in a plastic chest of drawers that was dirty and overly crowded. We selected two rats and went home, within three hours one of the two was dead, and I don't know if the other is sick or not. I bought three chicks from this place, and one has already died from Marek's Disease. Additionally, while I was in the store, I saw an excessive amount of cases of pasty butt. This place is selling infected chicks with an expiry date on them, and evidently don't care too much about the health of their animals. Marek's Disease should be vaccinated against at one day of age, or in ovo. Furthermore, the 9 pound bag of chicken mash I bought was absolutely infested with weevils. Not only are the chicks given an unsanitary environment, but their food has already been eaten partially by weevils. read more

My biggest issue with this store is how they treat their rats/mice. They have no wheel, no water or food in their habitat. I had two different occasions where I was shown rats to look at and those two times I felt extremely bad for them. I know they are feeders, they still deserve a good habitat. A lot of people will adopt them as pets. On instance we opened the bin where they are all kept and only to find 2 rats eating another one. How long was it there that no employee checked it out ?? This is NOT your typical Pet Store! With that being said, we were impressed when we entered inside to roam around the store. The first thing you notice when entering is all the cages and sounds inside. Today was vaccination day so there were many dogs inside that seemed to wrap around the store. We roamed around and found, turtles, birds, peacocks, baby turkeys, and even baby chicks! I was amazed to see the Peacocks and the Doves - they even had some homing pigeons! Probably the MOST EXPENSIVE pet and feed store in the West Valley. Cool selections of animals... pythons, ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs, potbelly pigs, birds, geese, ducks, roosters, hens, and chicks (breeds change from week to week) Different options for pet cages for small and large animals displayed in the front and back, including chicken coops. I have bought pullets on two different occasions and 5 out of the 9 have died within 2 or 3 days of purchase. Two of the remainder pullets have been very ill and after one month have not grown much but are fighting hard to stay alive. We have purchased pullets from two other locations (Gordon's Feed & Seed and Stockman Feeds) and they have all survived, growing strong and healthy. What I find odd is that all three locations get their pullets around the same time from the same location in New Mexico... Privett Hatchery. Staff is sometimes friendly, they're always busy, and you have to chase them down to get help. When the store has more than 3 or 4 customers, it feels like chaos. Service is slow. They do have a good selection of just about everything, several starter kits we've seen for different animals too. I recommend the other two locations in the west valley before telling anyone about Pratt's Pet; all of them are local businesses. read more
