We were getting our car serviced and picked it up on a Friday at 5 and decided to eat an early dinner and stay locally. This place came highly recommended. Bottom line it exceeded expectations. It may look simple (it's a converted bar) but make no mistake it's a 5 star steakhouse. Chicken soup was great. The 10oz filet was cooked perfectly which is not easy being a thick cut. Had a charred taste which was done just right - tasted like it came fresh off the grill. Wife's sea bass was better than Benjamin's - light, savory and melts in the mouth. Olivia was an excellent server. Knew the menu, was attentive, and watched me cut the first piece of steak. Perfect night for a relaxing dinner on the outdoor patio. We will be back! read more

Excellent steak. Bone in rib eye was prime, perfectly cooked and came with delicious veggies, baked potato and a soup or salad. Well worth the price. It's sad to say the best thing about my meal was the clam chowder, and this was disappointing after ordering a $40 steak. I ordered the scallops wrapped in bacon, the sauce was good but the scallops were over cooked. I ordered the tomahawk and not only was it so so so bland but they were not cooked properly. I ordered medium rare and got rare rare, my boyfriend ordered medium rare and got medium well. Had a great meal here for my wife's birthday. Split a filet mignon and a chicken dish, along with some wine and a solid cheesecake for desert. We sat on the restaurant side, there is also a bar side that looks like a solid option for sandwiches/burgers and beer, we will be back to investigate. AVOID. My friend and I went on a Tuesday night, and waited more than 5 minutes at the front to be seated. Although there were only a few diners there, it was loud, and no staff anywhere. I looked at the bar, still no one. Just as we were about to leave someone came out and seated us. The items on each of our menus did not match, and the server seemed to be the only one there. He asked us three times what we wanted, and still brought the wrong food out (shrimp scampi when my friend ordered bacon wrapped scallops and chowder) He then brought my friend's food, but not mine. After 45 minutes, (another 15 after my friend got their food), I said if my food was not there in one minute, cancel the order. It came, but without the sides-- fish and chips with avocado and slaw. When I asked for them, he said it's not on the menu. When I asked for a slice of tomato, he said they had none. Really?? It's listed in 4 salads! The server said he was sorry and took my dinner off the bill, which was decent, but then couldn't figure out how to use my friend's debit card! This place has $40- steaks on the menu. (too cheap for what they are calling the size and cuts they list--beware!) But if they can't get a more basic dinner served with the place at only 30 per cent capacity, why would I drop bigger dinner money there? Also, they have bad health ratings in Yelp. AVOID. read more

My husband can't eat beef much anymore because of his diet so we waited until Father's Day to go to the Poughkeepsie steakhouse because we had heard such good things ...the moment we walk through the door it was a pleasant place to be our waitress was sweet attentive and wonderful we received our appetizers which were a little disappointing bang bang shrimp were small frozen shrimp so they could have been a little better however the salad was beautiful and we were having a great time we had heard their steaks are the best however when we received our dinner we were a bit disappointed our side dishes were delicious however our sirloin strip steak was barely edible...we struggled trying to cut them..we ate around the outside of it just so that we could taste what it was the steak flavor and char was excellent but it was a bad cut of meat we could not even get through half of it our waitress noticed she also pointed out she can see the grizzle throughout my husband's steak she took it to the back to let them know that we were dissatisfied and came back and just apologized and gave us a piece of cheesecake we were most disappointed that the manager at no time came out to our table to apologize or try to make amends for that though I've been to more expensive places this place sure isn't cheap and it was a big disappointment ..yet prior to the manager NOT coming out we both agreed my husband and I that we would come back and maybe try something other than the steak we chose however at the manager not even bothering to come out to say a word to us we decided that this was probably going to be our last time there and we will also be telling our friends and family of our experience ..that's too bad I thought we had a new steakhouse in the area that was accommodating hospitable as well as good we were disappointed to say the least. read more

Last night my wife & I wanted to try some place different for a nice dinner to celebrate our 24th Wedding Anniversary. We don't mind paying a little extra when the food, service and atmosphere is worth it. Sadly our experience at the Poughkeepsie Steakhouse was anything but that. It took 40 minutes just to get our appetizer, we had to keep asking for our drinks, and while the BBQ ribs I had were adequate they were nothing to write home about & the baked potato that came with it them was hardly cooked, cold and as hard as it was they day it came out of the ground. We notice many of the tables having similar issues & Joked with other restaurant guest about the poor experiences. So many decent places had to shut their doors forever due to the pandemic & quite frankly from our experience I am surprised this placed survived. read more

My favorite place to go when I'm in Poughkeepsie. Friendly staff, comfortable atmosphere, and omg the food.... I have yet to have anything less than perfect here. From drinks, to apps, to main courses, and dessert... we've had a range of salmon to steak to burgers here and it is all so delicious, and the portions will send you home full! The bone-in ribeye is particularly impressive. It has a cozy fireplace on the dining side that would make for a great date night, and a fun bar on the other side with darts and good beer on tap...which honestly, could also make for a great date night. After waiting so long I paid my bill for my families appetizers and was told my steak was " on the house" and given a take out container. When I got home the steak was raw and not cooked. Ok so I've driven by this place a few times and I wanted to try it because it is a cute building in a good location. Upon entering the building it seemed chaotic the hostess was trying to coordinate both seating serving and clearing tables. Despite the chaos our server Rick guided us through the storm he was friendly personable and made a great martini (sadly wait staff is also bar staff). The food was better than anticipated however my bone in rib eye did not come with a bone. Platting on the other hand was poor. Stopped in to celebrate a family member's birthday this evening. None of us have every been here before. Sat and ordered our food was told by our waitress bread was on its way, 15 minutes later no bread, no soup and no salad. When food finally started to come to the table the French Onion soup was tasteless and I wanted to walk back ask the Chef to taste it for flavor. Ordered Ginger Ale first glass had no syrup just seltzer. Second glass tasted like soda had been filtered through a rusty pipe. When our steaks arrived to the table the wait staff asked us to cut into our meat to make sure we were happy with the doneness of our steak. Then they asked if we wanted Ketchup or A1 sauce for our steak. (WHAT). My porterhouse steak looked great tasted like nothing and was as easy to chew and cut as the bottom of my new sneakers Dessert were mediocre. Bathroom were old and sorta clean. Then I paid the bill, I gave the credit card straight to the waitstaff.(I am a women). The receipt came back and the server set it right in front of the only man at the table. NEVER AGAIN. read more

Apparently this restaurant doesn't know about COVID. Had the owner/manager stand next to our table discussing the cuts of beef. People were seated right next to us where the waitress had a mask on her chin. Our meal was a disaster. 3 people I was with ordered the filet two of which had to be sent back. Just came back from Poughkeepsie Steakhouse, 3 of the 4 of us had a good dinner. Our waiter was outstanding , the atmosphere was pleasant . Unfortunately 1 of dinner was , well over cooked to the point that it was uneatable. The manger or owner stop by the table saw 3 plates cleared and one plate with an almost full T bone on it , says nothing , just a cursory how's everything as he strolls by. We had a great time and an excellent burger. We ate at the bar, the service was excellent. The bartender recommended two burger choices we each tried one. They both were terrific. I'm particularly fussy about how my burger is cooked I like it cooked well but not dried out. My burger was juicy, and cooked all the way through just as I like it. Turned out to be a nice vibe with friendly patrons and a very well done martini by the bartender. We moved into the dining room and were fortunate to be seated by the wood burning fireplace.
