Probably been here 20 times over the years when in town for work. As part of that tradition I've always gotten the tri tip sandwich cooked to either medium or medium rare. The taste and quality of the meat is always consistent and I like the warm bbq sauce in the cauldron. I've also tried a few items with others that have visited with me and probably enjoyed the pastrami second best from the menu. Service is always friendly and efficient. This may sound random but they have a great assortment of chips as well. Easy parking options in the lot or on the street nearby. I look forward to my next visit! read more

Best BBQ is California! I am hoping to take my girlfriend there and how it compares to KC BBQ. Sampler is worth it!

For 20 years I have gone to Porter Street BBQ, and most of the time it has been fine. The day before a holiday in 2025, I ordered my usual. That time the chicken was extremely over cooked and dry. Instead of a holiday meal, I made chicken salad. Holidays are hard enough, but none of the deli places had any dark meet turkey, thus I got chicken instead. When I called to ask what happened to the chicken that person (end of 2025) said sorry, "it must have been left over." That is an honest answer. Mistakes happen. I get it. Fast forward to today. I got my order and got home to eat the wing and drum, and it was dried out and not moist like when it is properly cooked. Dipped in BBQ sauce it was ok. One thing I hate is dried out chicken. The thigh and breast were also extremely dried out. Obviously, it was overcooked. When I called in a very nice voice to ask how I can get it not dried out next time. The person Carie who said she was a supervisor, started making excuses and talking down to me in a bit of a condescending voice saying, "well it IS cooked on a BBQ grill outside." I said, "I know that. I have been coming there for many years." Then she started making some other lame excuse and this caused my temper to rise. JUST SAY YOU ARE SORRY. Shocked by this treatment I asked if she (CAREY) was really the supervisor and she said, "Do you want to talk to the owner?" and I said yes. She said loudly, "There is a very angry lady on the phone" and THAT MADE ME FURIOUS, so I hung up. SHE (CAREY) was the cause of my anger when I was talking nicely, and my voice was calm until she started making excuses. Perhaps, Carey needs to go to Supervisor Customer Service Training as I have been a supervisor, and I NEVER talk to customers in that way. Stick a fork in me as I am overdone. read more

This place was recommended to us by someone from our moving company so had to try it. I sampled some meats. Tri tip (5): the lady at the counter said anything tri tip is what to get here. I agree. Their tri tip is thinly sliced and super flavorful and tender. Had it in a sandwich and a la carte. They have a nice condiments bar so you can top your sando with anything you like. Get the tri tip! Beef rib (4): this was good but definitely not the standout. Hot link (3): pretty standard fare here. They did sprinkle some of their rub on it which I thought wasn't needed. Clam chowder (4): worth a mention. Theirs is super creamy and thick. Good number of clams inside too. The people here were very down to earth and it seemed a lot of locals like this place. I didn't get much smoke flavor on any of their meats but the tri tip was excellent. Overall, would come here again just for their tri tip! read more

The place was empty, so empty I didn't think it was even open....but we were greeted right as we walked in by a friendly young lady... there were a couple young guys in the kitchen area. My husband and I ordered the Dank burger that comes with tri-tip and a burger patty... both were dry and salty to me... I did put a heated up bbq sauce on it which helped moisten it up a bit Since it was so quiet in there, and all that was there was the younins working, you could hear them talking about their days and how they were quitting one job and working another and profanities back-and-forth wasn't too enjoyable neither . read more

First of all, I wanna give the staff 10 stars across the board. Absolutely lovely, delightful, fun, helpful and informative. I got the Dank Burger. I got barbecue sauce and thousand island on the side and the meat alone does not need a sauce. But I'm excited to enjoy it both ways. Macaroni salad was a great addition to this burger. Like if you forgot to make something last minute, come get some of that for your picnic or potluck. I will definitely be back to try more things. read more

I love PSB - the Heart Attack specifically is one of my favorite sandwiches of all time. This time I also ordered a pound of tri-tip and potato wedges for my kids to share. I travel to a lot of small towns in the American west. Each time I come into a new town, I'll try a local BBQ place. They are almost always bad, but I never learn my lesson. I recently came into the small town of Eureka, California, a town I've been to a couple times before but this is the first visit where I went to Porter Street BBQ and it's pretty damn good. In fact, as I write this, I'm sitting here for me second visit in as many days. On the first visit, I ordered a sampler that included a beef rib, a pork rib, chicken breast, tri tip, garlic bread, and two more sides! Each item was wonderfully delicious. I can't think of a place where I have had better bbq (not including Arkansas and I haven't been to Texas or Oklahoma just yet). So, I'm back here now. This time, I just ordered a cheeseburger with Swiss cheese and potato wedges on the side. The burger was good too. Not as extraordinary as the BBQ, but pretty good. As I entered the establishment i got worried as There was not one person in there eating, but as I said it was 3pm well after Lunch a a tad bit before dinner, i was approached by a young lady at the front counter asked if she could help me , I said I wanted to view the menu for a moment, after looking at the menu I asked if they had any meat combinations she said yes I could pick one of the meats and add two sides, so I repeated asked again if they had and "Meat" combinations you know like a Rib and Trp-tip combo, she said I could add an extra side .. i told I don't think you understand what I was talking about, and said that I would figure it out. So I ordered some ribs and a 1lb of Tri tip, she asked how would I like my tri tip cooked I said medium. So I watched as the cook prepared my meats, ws on a grill in which he was cooking or heating my ribs and tri tip , by pouring water on them both. This was the worst Bbq that I have ever experienced in my life my meat looked like and taste like it was boiled in water my tri tip was actually Beef jerky, I am sorry I do not know where the BBQ Joint that is expressed in some of the previous reviews, should have followed my instincts and ran right out of that place when I saw how not busy they were!! I had a sliced pork sandwich. It was well seasoned, possibly too salty for some, but not me. I really enjoyed the sandwich with their hot bbq sauce. On the flip side the potatoe salad was horrendous! My son and I both thought it had a carbonated feel on the tongue, almost like it might be going bad. The chili was barely subpar as well. I was referred to this place when I announced I would be in the Humboldt area. I was told, this place has some of the best BBQ ....EVER. Well damn, I don't know about EVER, but yeah, really glad I decided to give this place a shot. When I walked in, a little taken back. This place looks old...not sure if on purpose, or, it's just old. And it was DEAD quiet too when we got here. Got a little nervous. But told, DONT be scared, try it. Lol. When our food came out....wow. First off, a LOT of food. I ordered their tri-tip sandwich. And it was bigger than my head. Talk about meat overload! It was also hot. The bread was buttered and toasted. And the meat came dry, and seasoned. And that's it. In my picture I added a few things. But there is a salad bar area to dress your food how you like. Among the amazing presentation of food. It was also crazy delicious. Perfectly seasoned. It really didn't need anything. Not even BBQ sauce. THAT good. As far as the other things. Although this place has creatively old decor. It was still clean. Well kept simple establishment. The food is a little pricey.
