My family and I were driving down the coast and were going to be in Eureka for one night. We asked the front desk lady at our motel where we could get a good steak, and without hesitation she said Shamus T Bones. We looked at the reviews here on Yelp! and were a bit worried at the low overall rating. Well, rest assured, we had a good meal and enjoyed our visit. My wife had the filet mignon, while I ordered the rib eye. I asked our waitress about upgrading to the pricier dry aged rib eye, and she surprisingly talked me out of it saying the regular rib eye was really good. She was right. The combination of the grilling and the buttery sauce was delicious. It didn't need any additional sauce, but out of curiosity I tried the house sauce that was on the table, and it was quite nice. For some reason, they have a Tesla coil (from the original Tesla, not the car company) and they fired it off while we were there. They give plenty of notice before they do as it makes a loud sound and sparks fly about the device. It was interesting. So, if you're in town and looking for a good steak, give this place a try. read more

I recall when this place was on 36 and people would drive so far to enjoy their food. I now pass it every day and generally do not go there. I will say, Happy hour in the bar is good. The food culture in Eureka is okay (just okay). The service was great and the restaurant itself is clean and really nice. I loved that staff continued to refill my beverages. Ribeye was over cooked, but coming from Texas my expectations may have been too high. Medium cook means pink center and this was bordering well done. Taste was great, just a little too done. Immediately upon entering, I thought what a cool place!! This old school restaurant has character galore. Feels like stepping into a warm, welcoming Montana lodge. We were greeted within seconds and immediately seated where we could look out to the bay. A server brought yummy corn jalepeno biscuits and water as soon as we sat down. Once we ordered, the food came quickly. It was hot and delicious. The burger I ordered was superb. I asked for bacon and cheese, no bun with pickles. It was perfectly cooked and juicy. My steak shows up cooked all the way through when I asked for pink, and it was completely burned on the outside and tasted like charcoal. After thinking it over I decided to let the waiter know, and he had one remade for me. The next one shows up black, I mean BLACK. I touched it and I got literal charcoal on my hands. I decided to just box it up to go. To top it off, flies kept landing on us, and the shades by our table were missing so I had to lean to the side to get the sun out of my face. Stayed at a nearby hotel, we were in town for a wedding. After a 8 hour drive, we weren't getting back in the car for ANYTHING. Walked over and was seated straight away. Easy to follow menu with a good selection. We had all originally planned on steaks but the pasta menu was varied and coincidentally we all ordered a different pasta dish. Everyone sampled from each plate and while everything was delicious the Shrimp Scampi was the BEST! Garlicky and savory with the perfect portion of some citrus lemon/lime. Service was wonderful - sat at the bar, had the lovely Christina as a bartender. Got to enjoy watching an amazing third period comeback for the Dallas Stars on the massive tv. The New York steak was flavorful, however had a massive hunk of fat on the thick end, inedible by my standards. And then my absolute favorite dessert has apparently been replaced by a new recipe...this is no Lava Cake. While the presentation is beautiful, it is a gummy cake with no lava flow and regrettable flavor. I used to crave this dessert. I never want to eat the new version again. Came here a little late at night, was kinda quiet on a Wednesday. The army truck outside was pretty cool. I sat at the bar and the bar tender was super friendly. Got a local IPA. Didn't know what to order so I got the daily catch. Which was halibut, comes with spicy Cole slaw and loaded baked potato. I also got their grilled artichoke which was really nice too. Over all fish was perfectly cooked came out with a glaze the baked potato could have been cheesier :).. I'm a fan of real butter but its looks like they use margarine here but still good. read more

I checked the reviews for this place after I ate here and it seems like there are a lot of very good and very bad reviews, but not so many in the middle. Mine though IS in the middle. I had a NY steak, vegetables and macaroni and cheese, all of which were ok - no disasters, but nothing that actually tasted good. The service was excellent though, the best part of the evening. My waitress was Ashley. She was quick, efficient and seemed genuinely friendly. But what dragged the evening down for me was sitting amidst all those corpses of dead animals, particularly at a time in our history when so many animal populations have decreased so dramatically. Even more poignant was having a meal in this animal graveyard in a part of the country that had to fight so bitterly and for so long to keep some fraction of its wild nature intact. Just wow. I went here the first time for dinner and had the artichokes and they were the best I have ever had in my life. I never had artichokes that were seasoned on the outside of the leaves as well as the inside. They were the bomb. Steak - everything on the menu was great. This restaurant happened to be next to our hotel, so we walked over to have a bite. What a surprise! Super yummy smokehouse that I would definitely revisit. We went here for two things, they're grilled asparagus and they're oysters. They boast about a raw oyster bar and my fiance never can get oysters where we live, so we figured we would go to a Seaside town which would obviously have fresh seafood. We picked this place over six or seven others because they we're the only ones that didn't rip people off with their prices for oysters and didn't ruin oysters by deep frying them. When we ordered, they didn't have grilled asparagus or a single oyster in the house! I was ready to get up and leave but because my fiance is more of a pushover, we stayed and he ordered salmon, something he could get it literally any restaurant we go to where we live. So we paid for overpriced salmon, tiny little cutlet, garnish with a bunch of vegetables to make it look fancy. My pasta dish was so salty and over seasoned that it was barely edible. Literally swimming in garlic and sun-dried tomatoes which may sound good, but it was so overwhelming and flavor, that it actually was gagging and I've never said that about any food in my life. They were out of chicken breasts the night we came, (a red flag already) eliminating three menu items I might have ordered, and they were also out of the main dish Cuban soup I would have ordered. We were off to a bad start. We should have left. I got the barbecued chicken leg, which arrived as two barely warm pieces of fatty dark meat and tendon inexplicably formed into hard little boneless squares and covered in barbecue sauce. The vegetables and rice that came with were cold. I sent it back and reluctantly ordered a chicken and pasta dish. It was worse - like cheddar cheese Campbell's soup with more cheese on top of MACARONI with a few chunks of questionable chicken and maybe five pieces of mushrooms swimming around in the goo. Our server was the highlight of the entire experience. Milena is truly a shining star and absolutely made our evening amazing! I gave this restaurant 4/5 for a few reasons. The steaks were delicious, however, they were overcooked, the cuts didn't seem legitimate. Having raised and butchered our own meat for generations, my Filet was definitely closer to the Rump than the Tenderloin. Maybe I got the end cut, it could happen, but my GF definitely got the fattiest New York Steak I've ever seen. Milena got the orders down correctly, even checked and rechecked off of memory, the cooks however didn't give her the correct sides, the right cuts, or the right level of cooking. Now all that aside, this restaurant was awesome. The atmosphere and the service are some of the coolest and best I have ever had the pleasure of encountering in my entire career of dining. They even have a real working Tesla Coil as decor, that they will trigger at your request. The whole place smells of divine pit BBQ, meat, and leather. The bar is very cool, it has a wide selection ranging from Odouls to Hard Bourbon and everything in between.
