After a day at the beach, my little girls tells me that she is in the mood for some clam chowder. We found Popei's Clam Bar on the way home. Ambience: At a glance, Popei is a little off the beaten path... sort of in a commercial area where everything else is closed at night. Walking in, it has the atmosphere of a pub, with lots of wood paneling, a bar in the back and TV screens with ball games on. The tables are all separated by glass partitions for the COVID weary. Food: Oysters on half shell - served on a bed of ice with cocktail sauce and mignonette sauce. 4/5 Fried clams - freshly shucked and fried. Crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside. 5/5 New England Clam Chowder - a little watery, with a lot of celery. Only a few bits of clam. Might be end of the night and this is what's left. 3/5 Linguine with White Clam - generous chunks of clams served on top of linguine. 4/5 Service: extremely friendly and attentive servers. They noticed my son's tea bag ripped and offered to get him another cup of tea. read more

We absolutely love this place !!! The food is awesome. We have had a variety of dishes from lobster to baby lamp chops and everything is always delicious and cooked just right. Seafood bisque is amazing. Brazilian lobster tail (12 oz) amazing. I had mussels that were by far my favorite mussel pot anywhere. Portions are generous and the specialty cocktails are great. Everything there is fabulous. The staff is warm and friendly and aim to please. It's casual and we like that family feeling. We actually feel like family when we are there. Joe, the owner goes to table to table on a busy Saturday night to greet everyone personally. I haven't been anywhere else that the owner/ chef takes the time to do that. Shout outs to Reine , Javier , and Joe. We love you !!! Parking is easy because there is a valet. This is by far my go to seafood place. Everything is fresh. They also do special orders in advance. Girls night out on a Thursday brought us to this small restaurant on Wantagh Avenue. There is very little parking but they offer free valet parking. Reservations recommended. The food was delicious and the service staff very attentive. We wanted to catch up and talk and they let us - not hovering over us to take our order or kick us out. The menu includes pastas and meats, chicken and burgers, and they can accommodate gluten feee diets. We will definitely be back. read more

We went to grab a quick bite at Popeis. The food was okay, service was fine, can't speak much on ambiance because we were outside and it was a bit grey out. The staff however was kind, we were chilly and asked them to turn off the fans so they did. (Always appreciate when staff tries to make sure you're comfortable) We had the Thai calamari which I loved, and I had the mussels. I was told to try the spinach but to be honest it didn't taste as amazing as I was told it would. It was fine. Overall not a bad place to go to. Best Seafood ever and so fresh. They will tweak the entree if you want to change it a bit. Great waitresses who have been there forever in some cases. They give you a FULL glass of wine! I recently visited this location with friends. They gave us complimentary garlic bread was very good. For my entree I had the "Linguine with the works" which includes mostly mussels with some clams, shrimp, calamari, scungilli and scallops with the medium marinara sauce which comes in a large bowl. It was so good I finished the whole thing. Overall it was an excellent dish but the scallops were very small and there wasn't that many clams. I would have paid more for larger portions of the clams and scallops which for me would have made the dish perfect. Our server was very friendly and attentive and service was excellent. I would highly recommend this place and look forward to going back next time I'm in the area. read more

Very nice Clam Bar. Got invited here for a birthday celebration. I am not a BIG seafood eater, but they have something for everyone here. Loved the service, our waitress was funny and sweet with great recommendations. She kept the table happy and drinks coming. I am ready to come back just to get some more of the buffalo shrimp appetizer. They were amazing. I had the salmon and it was nice and fresh. Better than the one I try to make at home! My husband had a seafood pasta that he liked as well. The other couple we came with got crabs and clams which they liked. They're repeat customers of Popei's. BUYER BEWARE So today Mar. 14, 2025 at 1:40 pm I recieved a text blast (I recieve regularly) from Popies Clam Bar about a special $25 Surf and Turf with soup and salad. My review from a year ago and I'm retracting it. THE PROBLEM.. If this was a mistake and not a bait and switch situation, I'd be hard pressed to believe them. Once you're in the restaurant, you'll just order something else. The Bethpage manager first said that the Deer Park location sent the text blast. Apparently, Deer Park doesn't send text blasts. I spoke to the manager at Bethpage AGAIN, and he then said that they sent out an email to retract the offer. (Make up your mind, sir.) I received no such email. Instead of offering a small gesture like a desert, an appetizer or a 10% discount for the "mistaken offer" the manager says come Mon. - Thurs. for the $29 special. I made plans to take a friend to lunch tomorrow. It surely won't be at any Popies. I'll take her to Vincent's Clam bar instead. I will say BUYER BEWARE. My wife and I have been coming to Popei's for over 10 years now. It has long been a special spot for us. We both absolutely love seafood and this place has what you need. I've never thought to leave a review because, quite frankly.... They don't need my review... lol. They're always packed. Every night. They run specials all week long, all you can eat shrimp, all you can eat crab legs... insanity. And the food?? It's always fresh, cooked perfectly, seasoned perfectly! Even the garlic bread is top notch (also, ask for the rolls.. they don't offer them but they have them. Trust me. It's crack). Another unique feature is that, although there is a manager who walks around checking on the customers, asking if everything is up to their standards, the owner himself also walks around checking on and greeting folks, people he's known for years and newcomers alike. He treats everyone like he knows them well. Doesn't linger over you, inviting himself to sit with you, just a huge smile, and handshake... You just don't see that anymore. And although we've been there many, many times, and have been waited on by a great many people, Gabby (hopefully I've spelled her name correctly) is really the best in the business. As a waiter/waitress you have to be "on" all the time even if you don't feel like it. You get the sense from her that she just doesn't have bad days. Goes out of her way for you, and makes you feel like you're her only customer even though she's carrying 15 other tables. Again, they don't need my review but I felt it was about time to leave one. 2.5 stars for this visit. Went for lunch on Father's Day, condensed menu for the holiday but still plenty of options. We've been here several times before but unfortunately the food was subpar this visit. Not sure if it was due to Father's Day but still a disappointment either way. We had top neck clams which were good, scungilli salad was ok, lamb chops were bland, grilled octopus was good, stuffed shrimp were small and WAY overcooked and tough, same with the lobster roll (overcooked, rubbery, tasteless - even with butter), the roll itself wasn't very crispy so it was soggy and completely fell apart in the bottom. halibut was a bit dry, and the seafood pasta was average. Our waitress was busy but on top of things, as well as other staff, chef and manager stop by to say hi which is appreciated. They had some issues with the credit card machine so a short wait as they attempted but wasn't a big issue. Not sure if it was just a one off or a decline overall but based on the food this visit, I'm not sure we would return. read more

I'm visiting my friend here in Queens, and we had to run some errands in Bethpage, so when we looked up seafood places, we were sent here. the Yelp reviews do not lie!! I started with the "Long Island Chowder." I normally, do not like Manhattan clam chowder at all. However, this was New England and Manhattan combined, and it worked!! It made the Manhattan chowder like a creamy tomato soup. I loved it!! For the main course, my partner had the linguine with clams. She said that the pasta was perfect, as was the clams. Done just right. I had the Popei Special, Mussels, clams, scungilli, (Like a conch, or a sea snail,) calamari, shrimp, scallops, broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms and zucchini over linguine in butter garlic sauce. Oh, man, was it good! The perfect amount of seafood and veggies. I normally don't like to "work for my meal", but this time, I did not mind it at all. The mussels, clams, and everything else was done perfectly. The pasta was al dente, and the seafood and veggies were perfectly tender. We both dug into our main dishes so fast, I forgot to get a picture!. We had the lunch portion, and we still had enough for a very generous midnight snack the same night. After the pandemic struck down a number of our favorite restaurants, there was room for an addition of two to take their place. After I took my wife there for her birthday dinner, it was mission accomplished. She asked for this in particular because a lot of people in her local Facebook group raved about the place. Upon seating, we were given a tray of extraordinarily good garlic toast. I ordered the appetizer sampler plate and she got the stuffed eggplant that included shrimp, scallops and a generous portion of cheese. While waiting for the food to arrive, Joe the owner came by, noticed that we were unfamiliar faces in a bustling restaurant, and made sure that we felt welcomed. Rarely have we felt so welcomed, as Joe came by every ten or 15 minutes to make sure all was well. At a medium sized restaurant in a strip mall, one would not guess that the food would be superbly well presented, but that was just one more surprise. At the end, they brought her out a creme brulee with a birthday candle, and she made a wish. I imagine it was hoping for a quick return trip here. read more

Service and staff were good. Social distancing enforced with dividers between tables. Menu has a variety of food to choose from...complimentary bread was really good. Don't fill yourself up too much before your meal. There is also bar seating and tvs to watch sports - whatever is on. Shared appetizers: Mussels in white wine sauce and baked clams oregenato were good. FYI: Coated fries = regular straight cut fries and Seasoned fries = curly fries Snow crab leg dinner was good enough to share between 3 people...one leg for each :) Chicken marsala, swordfish, lobster ravioli, shell fish frenzy, shrimp spectacular were all good. A great lowkey spot for big portions and family fun. Poleis is very unassuming but the meals and drinks really are the star of the show. I love a no-frills, down to earth, family restaurant and popeis is definitely that. I came here on a Friday night with a large party and our wait staff was exceptional. They handled our tables wonderfully and the food was plus. We got the sweet chilli calamari, surf and turf, lobster and shrimp with ricotta and vodka sauce pasta, and a few other things I can't remember. What a great experience we had here! We found it just by looking at places online before taking a trip to the area. So glad we tried it out! We made reservations for a Friday evening a few days in advance. The restaurant had a good crowd for a Friday night. Definitely a locals place with servers knowing their customers well and the Chef making the rounds checking in on people. Our server was awesome! Quite a character with lots of stories and really helpful with our menu questions. He could tell we were from out of town, so he was helpful with our questions and made some great recommendations. Portions were big! We had more than enough food between apps and meals. Oh, and our server gave us a free drink and free cannolis for dessert. We left very full. The food was really good! Cooked well, seasoned nicely. We spent a few hours eating here and were not rushed despite how busy it was. That was nice since we were staying in a hotel and not in a hurry. We parked at a neighboring business and weren't aware that could be an issue. An employee came around asking about our vehicle and opted to move it for us. The restaurant offers a free valet service. Ohhhh man was PCB an experience. I had no idea it existed until a seafood craving got the best of me and I looked to Yelp for some help. (Heh heh that rhymes) Reservations were strongly recommended so I made a rezzie for 2 people at 7:30 on a Sunday night. We got there at 7:20 gave our car to the complimentary valet service, and were seated by 7:35. Zero complaints. The menu was overwhelming with its variety of options. I had the New England clam chowder which was delicious. It was unfortunately 500 degrees on Long Island that day so the soup didn't have that "warm my bones" effect that is usually did. My dad had the Long Island Clam chowder, a mix of the New England and Manhattan styles. When it came time to entrees, my dad had the tuna steak, done medium. I went for the cavatelli dish, a mix of scallops and shrimp tossed in pasta with marinara and mozzarella cheese. The portion was massive. The dish was well cooked and flavorful, but did nothing to satisfy my seafood craving. It's not Popei's fault - I should have ordered a fish steak too. By dessert time, we felt like beached whales and passed on the after-dinner sweets. Maybe next time? There will definitely be a next time. I'll "sea" them real soon! read more

First there arent a lot of parking. You should make a reservation since it does get busy during dinner hours. The prices are reasonable and everything was delicious. The complimentary garlic bread was so good that you will want more. Everything was just perfect... that vodka sauce was especially good. My son who doesnt like eating almost ate all the ravioli. The chefs came out to see if everything was good. The server checked on us many times and so did the manager. They did it again. Flawless. If you want any kind of seafood this is the place to go. We had the cherry neck clams and steamers which were excellent. For dinner I had the stuffed lobster with shrimp and lump crab meat. .. finger licking delicious.. Every time I'm there the chef always comes out to the tables and asks how everything is . Parking lot is very small and even having valet, I felt that my car would be better off on a nearby street. If you park adjacent to this restaurant, you will find your car has been towed We tried to visit this place months ago without a reservation and realized that this was a mistake. Small restaurant with plenty of regular patrons. The staff was very welcoming from the beginning. Those who served us were amazing and helpful the owner/manager makes his hourly visit to each table to inquire about their experience. I find that to be a perfect way to feel important to this establishment. We started our meal with a dozen clams. They were good but lacked garlic and were on the small size. For $35, I would probably not get it again. We order the red and white clam chowder. The red chowder had plenty of clams but seem very chewy while the white lacked clams. Oh I forgot, the garlic bread they placed on the table is addictive! We did have several drinks that were very good. We ordered the 2 pound lobster and swordfish.
